Regulus stepped off the bus first, offering Remus a hand with his bag and broom.
"So are we taking the carts to the school?" Remus asked, as he jogged onto the sidewalk.
"Well, they weren't expecting anybody would need a ride, so I suspect we will just walk." Regulus answered.
"Walk? Is it a long walk?"
"Nothing students don't do on weekends. Besides, you like walking." Regulus reminded his brother, as he put the bag over his shoulder.
"Fine, but can we take a cart to comeback to Hogsmeade? I really like Thestrals."
"I know you do, and I am sure it can be arranged. Now, it isn't a full moon, so would you like to take a bit of a short cut?" Regulus offered.
"The Forest?" Remus asked, with a burst of excitement.
"Yeah, I'm sure Bane won't mind."
"The Centaur?"
"Well yeah, he's the only Bane I know."
Remus stuck his tongue out at his brother, before dashing a bit ahead. "Come on then slowpoke."
"Remus, we are not going to run." Regulus scolded. "We will walk. If we run, we may disturb herbs and roots."
Remus rolled his eyes, "Fine, I will walk."
Regulus caught up with his brother, and the two walked in silence for a moment.
"Regulus, why would you be worried about a full moon? We're both werewolves already."
Regulus looked down at his sibling for a moment, "Promise not to tell Dad?"
"Promise."
"Well, remember being told about Fenrir Greyback?"
"Yeah, he's the really big ugly werewolf."
Regulus shrugged, "I guess that's one description of him." He paused, as they took a step into the forest. The sounds of creatures buzzing and chirping circled them. "Anyway, he's been hanging around these forests."
Remus stopped and gasped, "No…."
"Yeah, it's not the first time. He first showed up when I came here as a student."
"Have you fought with him?"
"What do you think?"
"Explains the burning feeling on my back a few weeks ago. Regulus you should tell Dad." Remus told is brother. "I get you're a big tough guy, but Fenrir could really hurt you."
"If I told Dad, Fenrir could really hurt him."
"Dad is an adult, a trained Auror and he killed Grandfather. I think he could manage."
"And you don't think I could? I can be just as deadly as he can, and I am a werewolf like Fenrir." Regulus commented, "Besides, it's kind of my job. I need to protect people from the likes of him."
"Regulus, if you don't tell Dad, I will. I know I promised, but I would rather break a promise than have something bad happen to you. You cannot fight him alone. Dad never fought Grandfather alone, he always had his friends. Right now, you're just becoming friends with Teddy, he's not exactly a Ron and Hermione."
Regulus bit his bottom lip, Remus was so insightful, especially for being his younger brother. He looked down at him, "Never thought of it like that. I guess Dad would be useful for flushing him out…."
"That's not what I meant…." Remus stopped speaking, he heard a loud noise in the distance, a noise that had him freeze. Regulus saw his brother freeze, and looked ahead. A smile reached his lips.
"Hello Bane." He called.
"Regulus, this not a normal night to have you in Centaur Land." Bane responded, getting closer. "This must be Remus."
"It is, I brought him along for a small get away. He needed a mental break from the people at home." Regulus explained, as the tall brooding centaur stepped forward.
Remus looked up at Bane, in awe of his size. "You've heard of me?'
"Even if your brother never spoke of you, the stars have. You are a soul that sees more of the universe than even myself or my herd."
Remus looked down, "Sometimes,"
"You even see Death. A rare friend to have. One day, we should talk more little one. For now, however, I must get back to the rest of my herd."
Remus gave a nod. Bane walked around the two, and trotted off.
"He's tall."
Regulus laughed a tad, as he continued to lead the way. "Yes, that's one way to put it."
"Are you really friends with him?"
"I don't think Bane has friends. Just those that he trusts and those he hates. I just happen to be in the category of trust."
Remus shrugged, "His mind seems to think you as more than that."
"You could get into his head? Boy, that's a talent you should sale to the Ministry. The ability to get into the heads of half breeds." Regulus noted, stepping over a log.
Remus shook his head, "Ewww no, I don't want to be a boring Ministry Man like Dad."
"Dad, a boring Ministry Man?" Regulus questioned. "His job may be the more interesting one. I get it though, I could never work in the Ministry."
"One day you will, though." Remus assured his brother.
"Thank you for the vote of confidence."
Regulus stepped to the other side of the forest, the large castle in sight.
"Hogwarts needs more lights." Remus commented. "For a school that brings so much joy, it is very dark."
"I will be sure to tell McGonagall you said that. Now come along, I need to get you into bed. I'll be sure to go around the Great Hall. Should be safe beyond that. Tomorrow, I shall let the kitchen staff know you are here, so they can accommodate your diet."
Remus nodded, looking to the Quidditch Pitch. "When can I go fly?"
"Tomorrow, I'm sure I can find Teddy."
Remus got more excited, bouncing a bit.
"If you want to run off that energy go ahead and do it I now. I just wanted to get past they forest, and to the safety of the school first."
Remus took off running through the school grounds. Regulus shook his head, and rolled his eyes. Always the more energetic of the the two, Remus knew how to have fun.
Regulus took a few more steps and then stopped. His nose was picking up a scent. It had already smelled it a bit, but he thought it was just the smell of home on Remus. No this smell was the same, and he knew it. He looked behind him, a tad to the ground.
"A few stragglers I see." He commented.
Slowly two head appeared, having been concealed by the Invisibility Cloak.
"Hi…." Lily almost whispered.
"What are you two doing here?" He asked both Lily and Albus. They must have thought it okay to just sneak into the weekend.
"We wanted to see Hogwarts." Albus commented.
"And we heard Remus was going…" Lily added.
"And did you hear that this was a special trip, just for him, because he has been really sad." Regulus asked.
They both gave a slow nod, "But it's not fair we wanted to come too!" Albus argued.
Regulus felt anger building. This was not going to help Remus at all. If anything it was going to hurt the situation. "You two are going to come to the school, when you are older. Remus is not going to come here. I will be sending word to Mom and Dad so one of them can come and get you. Had you not pushed in, I may have just brought you at a later date. But because of this stunt, you two may have to wait until you are 11."
They began to grumble, as Remus ran back. His eyes feel with tear fueled by hurt. "What are they doing here?"
"They snuck in. Don't worry, they're going home…."
"No, because if they do then it'll get worse. They will blame me, call me a baby and leave me out more than they already do. They might as well stay." Remus sighed.
Albus and Lily saw how hurt Remus was, they did not know this would hurt him this much. They honestly just wanted to spend time with their brother.
"No Remus, it's okay….we were wrong." Albus attempted to comfort his twin. "Regulus was right, we did something bad." Albus paused for a moment, then looked back to Regulus.
"No, it's fine….just whatever stay." Remus kept walking, towards the castle.
Regulus glared at the other two. "This is the most selfish thing you two have done. I am going to owl our parents. Whether or not they come get you, well that is up to them. Until then, you two are going to stay in my office. No roaming, no nothing."
Albus and Lily gave a nod, they could tell their brother was really upset with them. Then again, he had every right to be.
They walked quietly to the school, Remus staying near Regulus, the other two walking behind. Once at the school, Regulus wrote a quick letter to his parents and handed sent it on its way. He then stood and looked at the sibling set, almost right into their eyes.
"While we wait; Albus, Lily I need some help with my shelves. They need a good cleaning. The last professor seemed to like his dust collection. While you do that, I am taking Remus to the Quidditch Pitch. Teddy said he would be waiting with some brooms. You two had better be here when I return."
The two nodded, and began cleaning. Regulus took Remus' hand and began to lead him away from the room. Remus could not have looked happier either.
Albus and Lily watched them leave, mad at themselves and to be honest they were a tad jealous.
"We should have just stayed home." Lily commented, as she picked up a trinket and began wiping the dust off of it.
"Well, Regulus should have offered to take us too. It's not fair that Remus gets to come see the school. Before we do." Albus agreed. It really was not fair in his opinion. Remus always got special treatment from his big brother. Special treatment it would be nice to share.
"I mean, he won't be coming here in the long run. And I know he keeps in. His room a lot these days." Lily noted. "And who knows, we may have been able to come after Remus got home."
"I doubt it. He prefers Remus."
"And he thinks Remus is the only one of us that actually cares about him." Lily pointed out.
"What do you mean, of course we love him just as much." Albus replied.
"I know, but Remus is the one that is always there for him, so he doesn't believe we actually care."
Albus looked down, as he examined a book. "You know, Mom and Dad are going to punish us."
"I know."
Albus' glance went to a window. "And we wanted to go into the Forest….."
"Albus no, no we should not leave the office. We will be in even more trouble if we leave."
"Maybe, but at least it will be worth it."
Lily thought a moment, she was not usually a troublemaker, but in this situation it did sound like fun. The chance to leave the school and explore somewhere as fun as the forest. She looked back and Albus and gave him a knowing nod.
The two ran from the office, making their way to the forest.
