knightmare of the abyss-
What i mean is Balto-Arc. My mind went auto correction and write that. The girl he date on the special chapter of "Arc the sub". Also I did see the branwen kids but I still write her too. I want to write Rose too but she is married Weiss. So every woman I write is either alone or their husbands is the worst (Willow for the Schnee)
You wanna know something crazy? I actually looked up RWBY Balton. She's actually really pretty. Kinda looks like Mikasa Ackerman from AOT.
Guest-
SilentKnightFan here XD
Awesome chapter. Love that some of the older grimm acknowledge the issue between Jaune and Darkness but still concede when defeated.
Fave character aside from Jaune? Neo obviously XD
Would love to see some more interactions of Argent with other people, either his age or older.
Anyways dude, keep at it and im excited for more _
Funny enough, you're getting what you asked for. A lot of this chapter is from Arie's point of view. What are the odds?
TerrelHayden-
You might me wondering why I Pmed you so many times, you know what, I'll come clean.
The cheating part does make me uncomfortable, including the drunk part as well, as such I wanted to ask questions. Does Jaune forgive? Does Nimueh ask for forgiveness? Is it all good?
The drunk cheating hits quite close to home as such, even if it isn't, it would hinder my enjoyment.
However do write as you please.
Hits close to home, huh? Well, believe it or not, you're not the only one. I have a best friend. He and his two little sisters are pretty much the test audience. All three said that many parts of Jaune's life describes my friend's. She wasn't drunk, but his girlfriend cheated on him, and with his worst enemy at that. Fortunately, Jaune's situation wasn't nearly as bad. In fact, spoiler, Jaune was also drunk and cheated on Nimueh. Though, would it really be cheating... if it was a foursome? That's the only spoiler you'll get, but hopefully it will lighten the load just a bit.
The family looked at the grizzled sailor, Argent finishing off his cake. "Can I have another?"
"How's about a Sea Witch Surprise," the barkeep suggested.
"Hey, that sounds good. What is it?"
The bartender then opened a fridge and took out a live octopus swimming in liquid. "Rum drunk octopus."
"SERIOUSLY?! YOU'RE GIVING MY KID MORE BOOZE," Nimueh yelled.
"Hey, lady, if you can take the cake, you can take the fish. Besides, he's already eating it."
"WHAT?!" Nimueh looked to see Argent chewing on at least four legs at once, the octopus still moving on his plate.
"It's kinda chewy. A bit like gum. The rum gives it a weird, tarty and fruity taste, but I like it. Opens up my nose a bit, though. I can actually smell the rum and octo. Not a pleasant smell," he snickered before swallowing. "Still, I like it," he said before biting off the rest of the legs.
"Mm. Kid knows how to eat live octopus. Definitely tough enough to be allowed in here," the barkeep said. Nimueh slammed her head on the table out of frustration.
Argent had finished the entire octopus when she did that. "Wonder how the rum tastes," he said as he lifted his plate.
"NAH-AH," Nimueh went as she yanked the plate out of Argent's hand before she could react. "Food soaked is fine, but straight-up drinking is where I draw the line!" Nimueh then guzzled down the rum. "Brrr. I can taste the octopus," she said as she stuck out her tongue in distaste.
"Blow me down, the proud beauty 'n cabin lad can handle the beast 'n the feast, but I doubt they can handle the womb o' the sea," Ahab said.
"Fancy way of saying you don't think my family can handle being out at sea. May I remind you that it was my wife and me that helped CREATE Atlantica," Jaune said as he stood up.
"Makin' a city underwater doesn't impress me, landlubber. Ye may 'ave been out t' sea, but ye're no son o' the sea. I be nah takin' ye out fer a fishin' trip. Ye wants t' sail wit' me, ye 'ave t' be ready t' feed the fishes."
"I think I can handle it."
Ahab and Jaune stared at each other. Then, a harpoon fell out of Ahab's sleeve, the man swinging it, the blade rushing towards Jaune's neck.
Jaune easily blocked it... with the tip of his finger, glowing with Aura, never once taking his eyes off of Ahab.
"Mm, maybe the shanties about ye we be true."
"Shanties?"
"Stories, dude," Sun explained. "Sailors like to sing about adventures, legends, and heroes. The story about how you beat Soheks with Trident is especially popular."
"Seriously? That bitch nearly broke my neck. Why is that story so popular?"
"Because you were saved by the Sea King."
"Ah. So I'm basically used to hype up the king?"
"Basically." Jaune sighed while Sun laughed. "Hey, could be worse. There could have been a shanty about you and Marina."
"Hey! That girl was practically my niece!"
"Tell that to the kingdom that wanted you to marry their princess."
"Sun, I will hurt you," Jaune and Nimueh said in unison.
"Ahem." They looked at the captain. "There be a price for coming aboard me ship, Huntsman."
"Sun told me. You're after a White Mobius, right?"
"Aye. The white devil that plagues the seas. The beast has claimed many a life in those waters." He then looked down... at his leg. "'n taken much from many.""
Jaune looked at the leg, piecing it together, and looked up at Ahab. "A White Mobius is considered an S-Class Grimm. If they weren't so rare and attacked more boats, they'd easily be upgraded to SS-Class. They are S-Class because almost no one has ever beaten one. They are known for killing whoever was unlucky enough to find it. You're after arguably one of the most powerful monsters hidden beneath the vast seas of Remnant. Are you sure you want to go after such a monster?"
Ahab pointed his harpoon at Jaune's chin. "Ye challenge me desire t' hunt that whale? Don't look down on a son o' the sea, hero."
Jaune looked at the man before holding out his hand. Ahab looked at his hand before stabbing his harpoon onto the floor and shaking Jaune's hand.
"You've got yourself a deal, my captain."
"Welcome aboard, Knight o' Vale."
Jaune was looking up, his eyebrow twitching. Argent was also looking up, his eyes wide and sparkling. Nimueh's eyebrow was also twitching.
"You've gotta be kidding me," she said. "THIS IS A DAMNED WHALER SHIP!"
Before the family was a massive ship with three masts, the tallest of them being at least ten feet. The ship had plenty of cannons, sails ready to be set, and plenty of sailors.
"Wha' are ye waitin' fer?" The family looked up towards Ahab as he was walking up the ship's plank. "We set sail at noon. If ye wants t' get on, get on. If nah, get away from me ship."
Argent wasn't listening. He was just staring in awe at the ship. "We're gonna be PIRATES," he cheered. "Ow," he went after Jaune konked him.
"No, we're not," he said sternly.
"HELL NO, WE'RE NOT GONNA BE PIRATES," Nimueh yelled as she jumped onto the ship. Jaune sighed as he and Argent followed her lead. "HEY! IS THIS A JOKE?!"
"Wha' are ye natterin' about, strumpet?"
"THIS! THIS TWIG! WHY ARE YOU SAILING ON A FREAKIN' ROW BOAT INSTEAD OF... I don't know, A NEW MANTLE BATTLESHIP?!"
Ahab spat overboard. "Toys 'n trinkets. I be nah interested in those fancy yachts 'n cruise liners those Mantleans call ships. 'tis a real scallywag's ship. The Red Oyster has survived countless battles, WITHOUT fancy tech."
"Oh, bullcrap," Nimueh said as she crossed her arms.
"I don't know, Nim," Jaune said, gaining his wife's attention. "This ship seems to be reinforced with some pretty tough metal. I'm just now noticing that the masts are pretty much giant harpoons," he said as he walked towards the ship's rails. "And the ship has some sharpened metal on its sides. They look pretty sharp, too. Sharp enough to do some damage to any Grimm that rams into it. . . Ah, I get it. If a Mobius ram into the ship or a Kraken tries to wrap its tentacles around it, the ship will fight back, maybe even bring its attacker down with it."
"Har, 'n here I thought the proud beauty was the one who carries the brains in the family. Seems the legendary Vale Knight has more brains than his bedfellow," Ahab said as he walked away.
"Oh, he did NOT just call me dumb," Nimueh said angrily, her eyes glowing.
"Calm down, babe," Jaune said as he placed a hand on his wife's shoulder, calming her down.
"Trim the sails 'n raise anchor! If ye forgot somethin' ashore, jump ship then swim back or get eaten by a Hammerhead fer all I care! We set sail!"
"Aye, captain!"
Argent was basically bouncing in place. "We're on an actual pirate ship. An actual pirate ship! We're pirates!"
"We're not pirates, Arie," Jaune said. "And neither is Ahab. . . I think. He's just a man... hunting one of the most dangerous Grimm in the sea. . . Ahab, what's your Hunter's Rank?"
"I be nah a Huntsman."
The three jolted. "You're kidding," Jaune went.
"One does nah needs a letter o' marque t' hunt a black spotted demon whale."
"I mean, technically, that's true, but... do you even have an Aura?"
"Who needs that when ye 'ave a gun 'n a spear," Ahab asked as he walked away, giving more orders.
The family stood there, dumbfounded.
"By my own father, this guy is insane," Nimueh said.
Jaune sighed. "I'm going to have to protect this ship, aren't I?"
"Seems like it, dad," Argent went with a nervous laugh.
Hours passed.
In any other ship, well, any MODERN ship, they would have already reached the point where they would have been directly over Atlantica. However, when Jaune asked how far they were from the point, Ahab informed him that they just reached the halfway point, meaning it would be more hours still. Two to three.
Argent thought it was cool at first to be on a pirate ship, but he was pretty bored now that the magic went away. He asked a sailor if they had a fishing rod and bait he could borrow, to which the sailor responded with: "Make sure to catch us a whole school, my boy," he said as he handed Argent the necessary equipment.
Argent actually surprised the same sailor who gave him the rod by catching a fish. And it was a decent-sized tuna at that. Though, he hadn't caught another since then.
"WHOA," Argent went in surprise. "It's a big one," he said before reeling in his catch. He then yanked with all his might, a grouper as big as him blasting out of the water and landing on him. "Ow."
"Whoa now," a sailor went as he and two others ran up and lifted the fish off the boy, he was sitting out the salt water, and fish taste out of his mouth.
"A fine catch, boy," one sailor said.
"This will make a fine meal."
"At this rate, the boy might catch a whale."
"Maybe he'll catch THE whale." The sailors laughed as they carried the big fish away.
Argent watched them walk away before jumping to his feet. He then looked around, seeing the entirety of the ship. He saw his mom at the opposite rail, staring out into the ocean. He saw his dad helping maintain the ship, which at that moment, meant lifting a canon so the sailor could seal an old crack on the weapon. Finally, he looked up to see Captain Ahab at the wheel, steering the ship.
Argent walked around the ship, finding the odd lien card, some bait for fishing, and even some fruit. He asked the nearby sailor if he could take an apple.
"You don't want scurvy, do ya? Take some for your parents, too."
Argent then decided to speak to his parents, going towards his mother first. He couldn't help but think of how pretty she looked, staring out to see, the wind blowing her long hair, the spraying water making it look like she was sparkling.
"You know, I may have bitched about the ship, but this is honestly pretty nice."
Argent looked out to sea with Nimueh. "Hey, mom? How are we supposed to find a White Mobius?"
"Oh, it'll find us. Especially with me and your dad on board."
"Hm? I thought you scared Grimm away."
"Lesser ones, sweetie. Lesser ones."
Argent saw that his mom was enjoying the wind, and decided to leave her to it and ran to his dad.
"Need some help," he asked.
"No. At least with this one. The one next to me is fair game."
"Come on, hero. That cannon is way too heavy for a-" the sailor began before Argent easily lifted it for the other sailor, both men's jaws dropping.
"You were saying," Jaune asked.
"Hey, dad, how are we gonna find the whale?"
"Don't worry, kiddo. It'll find us. Once we enter its turf, it'll find us."
"Turf?"
"Mobii are far more territorial than most other Grimm. Once we reach its stomping ground, it'll find us."
"So you've hunted Mobii before?"
"Yeah. But never a White one."
"Mm."
After Argent helped his dad with the canons, he finally went to Ahab. "You think we'll find the whale soon?"
"Aye, lad. Soon enough," Ahab said with a glare.
Argent knew that look. It was the look of a man ready to fight.
Then, Ahab's eyes shot open. "READY THE RAFTS!" The sailors and the Arcs looked at Ahab in surprise, but the man just glared out towards the ocean.
"The hunt for the beast starts now."
The sailors were entering the row boats, Ahab getting into the very first one. Nimueh was getting into one with Jaune about to get into another. However, the hero stopped when he realized his son was about to get into a row boat.
"Arie, I want you to stay on the ship."
"What?! Why?!"
"This might be too dangerous for you."
"Too dangerous?! Dad, I've helped you fight against an army of thugs, a crazed cult, and even helped in the War for New Mantle. I even helped you Conquer those two Grimm Lords in the desert. Why is hunting a Grimm in the ocean more dangerous than any of that?"
"Because I was in my element in those fights. Out at sea, I'm at a huge disadvantage. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd be able to protect you out on open waters, let alone save you should something happen."
Argent was shocked. His father... wasn't confident. He's NEVER seen his father look worried about a fight against a single Grimm. "B-But dad, you've told me you've hunted Megalos and Mobii."
"And I had much more experienced Huntsmen with me. Sailors like these guys but with their Auras unlocked. Not only that, the Mobii I hunted are NOTHING compared to a White Mobius. This will be a hunt far too dangerous for me to take you on."
"Listen t' yer cap'n, lad!" Argent looked towards the water to see Ahab looking up at him. "Only a true scallywag would admit t' his owns weaknesses 'n truthfully tell those he loves o' his weaknesses. Yer cap'n be a good scallywag trying t' protect his son. Are ye goin' t' dishonor 'im by disobeyin' orders?"
Argent looked down, thinking about what the captain said before looking at his dad. "Be safe, dad." Jaune nodded. "Mom, don't you dare leave us yourself," he called.
"NEVER GONNA HAPPEN, SWEETIE," she called back.
"Argent." He looked at his dad. "Fair warning: the ship won't be perfectly safe either."
"Huh?"
"There's a breed of Grimm that has been discovered that can jump onto ships. Bipedal fish-like Grimm we've dubbed the Thulhu."
"Vicious and ugly monster, they be, boy! If you plan to stay on my ship, you'd better protect it from those fishy bastards!"
Argent's eyes widened with a sparkle before he got a massive grin and thumped his chest. "Don't worry, dad! We'll keep the Red Oyster safe for when you guys get back!"
Jaune smiled as he ruffled his son's hair, making him laugh. "That's my boy. Alright, let's shove off, then," Jaune called, his raft dropping into the sea.
"Onward, scallywags! T' the beast!"
"Aye, aye, cap'n," the sailors went as they began to row, Jaune and Nimueh also doing their part while Ahab kept watching.
Argent watched his parents row into the horizon... not knowing he himself was being watched.
A feminine giggle was heard... as Argent was being watched through a water portal. "Poor boy, being left alone on a ship with a few burly men while his dear daddy and lovely mommy go whaling. That's so unkind, innit," the shadowed woman went as she looked behind her. When she looked, pairs of glowing yellow eyes appeared, the woman's giggled growing into a burst of laughter before finishing into a mad cackle.
The group was rowing farther into the sea, not able to see the ship anymore. Ahab had a special compass that always pointed to his ship, so he didn't care, but it also helped that Nimueh was spiritually linked to Argent, so she could navigate to her son easily. Yet, right now, that didn't matter.
Right now, it mattered that a pack of Hammerheads tried to attack the group. The sailors showed off their harpooning skills, easily killing the Grimm. Jaune was using ice magic to shoot them in the water but also threw a harpoon when a sailor tossed one at him. He also caught a lucky break when a Hammerhead lunged out of the sea towards him, Jaune easily catching the Grimm by its snout and Conquering it. After getting a Shark Grimm on his side, dealing with the rest of the school was pretty easy.
"These men are skilled," Nimueh called after they went back to rowing. "I'm honestly impressed with how well they dealt with these Hammerheads," she said as she punched a Hammerhead into the sky without looking at it as it lunged at her.
"O' course they be skilled! Me ship alone accepts the best o' the best! Ye won't find better sailors in all o' Remnant's seas," Ahab bragged, making his men cheer at their own skill.
A few minutes of rowing passed before the most exciting thing to happen was a pod of dolphins jumping past them. Nimueh even had the chance to pet one before it swam away. Then, the few minutes became ten, then twenty, then half an hour. The sun was starting to lower, but it was far off from the sun setting.
"Ahab, any ideas on how to lure this thing out," Jaune called.
"Ye don't simply lure the beast out. 'twill appear when it wishes t' taste the blood o' the sea's sons."
"Translation: keep on rowing," Nimueh went.
"Sounds about right," Jaune called back.
"Ya getting hungry, Mr. Arc," a sailor inquired. "I did bring some apples and oranges. Gotta keep yourself full and hydrated when rowing out at sea."
"Thanks, but I'm mostly just worried about my son, you know? I'm ready to take out this White Mobius and get back to him."
"A true worrywart of a father caring for his little boy," a sailor called. "Ya don't hear about that too often!" That made the sailors laugh, Jaune just rolling his eyes.
Ahab wasn't paying attention at all. All he was focused on was-
His eyes widened before he gritted his teeth in rage. "THAR SHE BLOWS!"
Jaune looked to see a massive spout of black water, a sign of a Mobius. But it was the largest he had ever seen.
"I grin at thee, thou grinning whale!" Jaune looked towards Ahab's boat to see him holding a spear. "Thy damned whale! Thus I give up the spear," Ahab yelled as he threw it towards the direction of the spout, right as the Grimm jumped out of the sea.
"BY THE GODS," Jaune yelled.
"THAT THING IS BIGGER THAN THE SKY SERPENT," Nimueh yelled.
The White Mobius fell towards the group, roaring.
"OH, SHIT," Jaune went before growing both Nevermore and Wyvern wings and giving a mighty flap, creating a powerful wind that blew him and the other ships out of the whale's way.
The whale's landing created mighty tidal waves that the sailors were barely able to survive, but all the ships were still in fighting shape.
"READY YOURSELVES, SCALLYWAGS! FER WE TURN THE WHITE BEAST INTO A BILLOWIN' SMOKE THAT SHALL BE SEEN ALL THE WAY T' NEW MANTLE!" The sailors cheered, ready for battle.
And so, the hunt begins.
Argent was looking out to sea, staring at the sparkling waters.
"You alright, kid?"
He looked back towards the sailor that called out to him before looking back to the sea. "Yeah. Just waiting for my mom and dad."
The man chuckled. "Your parents are two of the most powerful beings in the world. I'm sure they can take on one big whale."
"Mhm. They sure can," Argent said as he slumped onto the rails. "Still, I can't help but want them to be here sooner, you know?"
"Mm, not many kids your age complains about being away from BOTH of their parents. Well, if you're bored, you can help with some chores. Swab the poop deck, throw out some chum, and maybe catch another grouper. Heck, if you think you can handle yourself in the kitchen, I'm sure the cook can find a use for you," he said as he walked away to get to work.
Argent shrugged. "Better than doing nothing," he said as he got off the railing. "Hm?" He looked back out to sea, looking into the water. "That was weird," he said with a raised eyebrow, swearing he saw something. He then walked away to do some chores. The moment he walked away; something quickly swam past where he stood.
Argent did the first suggestion of cleaning the poop deck. He did an okay job. Enough for a veteran to say he could use a bit more practice, but it was good enough for him to finish, so he gave Argent permission to help someone else.
The second chore of throwing out chum was easy, given how strong the boy was. Even without his Semblance, he's scary strong. Tossing a few large buckets of fish guts was easy for the boy.
The third chore was always tricky, but the chum did make it easier. Argent even caught quite a few fish. His prized catch was a mako shark.
"Hey, kid! Slow down! You're making the rest of us fishermen look bad," a sailor joked.
"Maybe you should quit being a Huntsman in training and be a sailor. You're cut out for the sea, lad."
Argent gave his shi-shi-shi laugh before looking towards the sailor to give him a quip, but his eyes widened when he saw the rails. "HIT THE DECK!"
Be it instinct or trust, the sailor immediately jumped away from the rails, dropping his fishing rod, but avoiding being slashed by the creature that dove back into the sea.
The sailors were now on high alert, already arming themselves with guns, harpoons, and cutlasses.
Argent also got up from his fishing spot, only to be grabbed by cold, webbed hands from behind. Whatever grabbed him tried to lift him, but it didn't realize who it was messing with. Argent Enhanced the strength of his legs to anchor himself to the boat. He then gave a battle cry as he slammed his would-be attacker onto the deck with a crunch of wood. A sailor didn't even hesitate to stab the assailant with his harpoon, killing it, black smoke rising.
"IT WAS A THULHU!"
"ALL HANDS ON DECK! BATTLE STATIONS! GRAB A GUN! GRAB A HARPOON! GRAB A DAMNED FRYING PAN! WE BE FISHIN' THIS HOUR!"
"AYE!"
One sailor grabbed for a harpoon, only to hear something land above him. He looked up to see a Thulhu, the Grimm roaring at him before it swiped its clawed hand to slash his throat.
The strike was blocked by Argent's shield, who followed up by stabbing the Grimm in the heart. The creature screamed in agony before falling overboard, smoke trailing after it.
"You alright," Argent asked as he kicked up and passed a harpoon to the sailor.
The man caught it. "Just fine, lad."
As if on cue, more Thulhu jumped onto the ship, some roaring intimidatingly, others immediately attacking the crew. One crew member was lucky enough to hold up his spear in time to hold back the snapping, snarling monster, while another was unfortunately dragged into the sea.
It was a full-on battle on the ship, sailors stabbing, shooting, or even punching the Grimm. Argent was doing a lot of damage himself. He was able to easily slash through the Thulhu. Almost too easily. . . And he didn't like that he had that thought.
Then, a loud boom occurred behind him, the boy looking up to see a Thulhu tower over him, its body seemingly made of muscle with only a slight belly. It looked down and roared at Argent, the force of the roar pushing the boy back, leaving a ring in his ear. He shook his head to clear his mind, seeing and holding up his shield in time to block the slash of the monster, but it still sent him crashing into the captain's quarters.
Argent groaned a bit and looked to see what had attacked him, seeing a hulking Thulhu trudging towards him, the creating hissing as it approached.
"I've fought bigger and uglier," Argent went as he tried to get out, only to feel he was lodged into the wooden wall. "Uh-oh."
The Thulhu growled as it was about lunge toward him.
"OI!"
The Grimm looked towards the yell, only to be punched in the face by the ship's burliest crewman. The punch was enough to make the beast skid and slam into the rails, the monster looking up with glowing eyes full of rage.
The sailor stood tall and proud, cracking his knuckles and popping his neck with just some twists of his neck. "Leave the guppy alone. Come after a REAL trophy." The sailor then flexed, his muscles tearing his shirt off completely. "This old man is looking for a new tattoo," he said, referring to the scars that Argent thought looked really cool.
The old man had a bite mark on his right shoulder, a slash mark and the lower left side of his back, a bullet scar on his upper left abdomen, and a burn on his right pectoral. This man had plenty of proof that he was a fighter.
The Thulhu stood up and roared before it charged at the man, lunging at him.
The man grappled with the beast, the Grimm still towering over the near seven-foot-tall man, but the muscleman was still evenly matched with the Grimm.
Argent ripped himself out of the wall of the cabin's quarters in time to see a smaller Thulhu try to attack the man from behind. Argent used his Semblance to Enhance his leg strength and lunged at the Grimm, slicing it in half.
"THANKS, LAD," the man went as he threw the arms of the beast away from him and punched it in the face, making it skid away before the two charged at each other, now in a sort of punch-out.
Argent then looked around, seeing the ship was now completely infested with Thulhu. It was an all-out battle now.
The crew of the Red Oyster vs the Thulhu of the sea.
Sailors screamed as they fell into the sea. As soon as they popped up above the waves, they were swallowed whole by the White Mobius.
"DAMMIT," Jaune roared.
"DAMNED WHALE," Ahab roared as he threw more spears at the whale, some of them even exploding. "I WILL AVENGE ME CREW! YE'VE SCUTTLED MANY O' ME SCALLYWAGS, BUT I WILL SCUTTLE YE IN THAR NAME! REVENGE FER ME SAILORS! VENGEANCE FER ME LEG! JUSTICE FER ME BEAUTY!"
Nimueh noticed the last bit of his roar. "Beauty?! His wife?! Ahab was married?!"
"Aye, lass," a sailor began. "She was a Vacuan Huntress! Proud of a newly crafted ship, strong as a tidal wave, and as bold as the sea itself! She had Ahab sail her after this beast, and only the captain returned on what was left of the ship and a bloody stump where his leg once was!"
"He has had a burning hatred for the beast ever since! Why wouldn't he?! What man can forgive a creature who stole his greatest treasure from him and left a constant reminder by taking his leg?!"
Nimueh looked towards Ahab, the man throwing more spears at the whale with rage-filled eyes. She couldn't help but pity those eyes.
"THY DAMNED WHALE! FOR THE SAKE O' ALL, I SHALL SLAY THEE," Ahab roared as he threw another spear, hitting the monster, black blood spewing out before the beast dived back into the sea. "DAMN YE! DO YE HIDE FROM ME!? DO YE FEAR ME!? SHOW YOURSELF, YELLOW-BELLIED CUR! LET ME SPEAR PEIRCE YER BLACKENED HEART, SO THAT I MAY FREE THE SEAS O' THE CURSE YE 'AVE PLACED ON IT! ON THE CURSE YE PLACED ON ME! SURFACE ONCE MORE, SO I CAN FREE MESELF O' THE CURSE O' HATRED YE 'AVE PLACED ON ME! SHOW YOURSELF DAMN YE! DAAAAAAMN YOOOOOOOOOOOOU!"
Jaune could swear, that even drenched in salt water... he could clearly see the tears pouring out of Ahab's eyes.
Then, the sea began to turn. Then spin.
Beneath the waters of the ocean, far too deep below for any to see, the White Mobius was swimming around in a circle at increasing speeds. As it swam faster, it was creating something that would be the death of all above the beast.
"WHIRLPOOL," a sailor yelled as it began to form, the sailors trying to row against the increasingly powerful current.
"DAMN YE! I MAY ONE DAY RETURN INTO THE WOMB O' THE SEA, BUT NAH LIKE THIS! IF I DIE THIS DAY, 'TWILL ONLY BE 'CAUSE I DRAGGED YE INTO THE REAPER'S ARMS WIT' ME, BEAST! WE DIE TOGETHER, WHALE!"
"Yeah, not a fan of being dragged underwater," Jaune said before jumping into the air. He then formed wings and flew above the whirlpool. He began to channel lightning and ice into his hands, a crackling, steaming orb now in his palms. He then threw it into the whirlpool, the orb exploding into lightning and ice, creating an electrified iceberg. The sudden giant ice completely ended the whirlpool, and the scream of the White Mobius mixed in.
The sea was calm now. The sailors looked around, wondering if it was over.
"Jaune, did you get it," Nimueh yelled. He didn't respond.
Ahab just stood, looking at the iceberg, dropping his spear. "No. No. This can nah be. I was supposed t' slay it."
Jaune looked around, not looking pleased. Then...
"WROOO!"
Jaune looked behind him, only to see the head of the White Mobius before it slammed into him, crashing the both of them through the iceberg.
"JAUNE," Nimueh yelled out as she watched the whale dive into the sea in horror.
Jaune was being pushed down by the strength and pressure of the whale. It also didn't help that the strike winded him, meaning he was essentially drowning. Still, he was stubborn.
He grew his claws and stabbed into the head of the whale, the beast roaring as it shook its head, trying to shake Jaune off. It succeeded in getting him off its head.
However, Jaune stabbed the side of its face, tearing his way down until he reached its eye, black blood trailing behind the two. Blue eyes met a giant red one before Jaune reeled back his free arm and stabbed it into the monster's eye. It roared in pain as it swam upward due to Jaune's pulling. Moments later, it exploded out of the sea with a roar, Jaune immediately taking in a deep breath of fresh, salty air.
That gasp of air caused him to lose his grip, however, the man slipped off of the whale. Now in mid-air, the whale began to spin around until its tail was at the perfect angle. It swung down with all its might, slamming down on Jaune, sending him crashing into his own iceberg.
Jaune groaned as he got up, his Aura shattering. He then spat out a chunk of ice and looked up to see the whale swimming straight towards him. "Aw, crap."
Then, the side of the whale exploded, and Jaune looked to see Ahab's boat.
Ahab then grabbed another spear and jumped towards the beast. It was an amazing jump that only a Faunus or Huntsman should be able to do, but Jaune's nose let him know that Ahab was absolutely human, and Ahab said he was no Huntsman.
However, Jaune's eyes could see that Ahab... was surrounded by rage. At this very moment, pure rage and hatred made Ahab superhuman.
The man landed on the whale's back and immediately began to stab at it. "FROM MY HELLISH HEART, I STAB AT THEE! FOR HATE'S SAKE, I SPIT MY LAST BREATH AT THEE, THOU DAMNED WHALE! TO THE DEPTHS, WE SHALL GO! ONWARD TO DEATH, WHITE MOBIUS!"
The whale roared as it began to submerge, Ahab still stabbing it.
However, before both could go underwater, Jaune grabbed Ahab, ripping him off of the whale.
"WHA' ARE YE DOIN', SCALLYWAG?! THE BEAST MUST BE SLAIN!"
"BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO DIE IN THE PROCESS!" Jaune then winced in pain, his wounds from the whale's attack affecting him. Then, a blast of water caused by the whale's roar erupted beneath the flying men, sending them crashing down on the iceberg.
Ahab sat up with a groan as he looked to his side, Jaune unconscious next to him. Ahab then heard the rushing of waters and looked to see the beast swimming towards them at fatal speeds.
Ahab's face... became sullen. He then raised his pegleg, aiming at the White Mobius. "Come, whale. 'tis time we ended this... duel o' ours. 'tis where our tale ends. Come, so that we may write down the last word o' this dark chapter in this legend."
The White Mobius opened its mouth, roaring so loudly that waves pushed the other boats away, Nimueh screaming for Jaune while the sailors screamed for Ahab. However, Ahab didn't hear anything.
All he could hear was the humming melody his wife would sing, her cleansing giggle, then her angelic voice softly calling his name. Then, he saw her. His red-haired, blue eyed, tan-skinned, wife. She was indeed beautiful, had a confident smile, wore a red bandana over her brighter hair, and had the soul of the sea in her eyes.
"Calypso."
After Ahab said her name, he fired.
BOOOOM!
The burly sailor punched the Thulhu hard enough for its bone face to break. The Grimm roared in pain before it tried to slash the man, only for him to block the attack with his arm and use his free arm to punch a hole into the creature's face, killing it.
Argent sliced a Thulhu in half, right down the middle with his greatsword, panting. He looked around and saw a sailor with torn rags instead of his shirt stab his spear through the head of the last Thulhu. Argent looked around to see the other sailors. They were bloody, panting, barely standing or sitting on the deck. One was on his back, but still panting. Argent sadly saw a few dead sailors and noticed a missing crew member, but there were still more than three-quarters of the crew.
The other sailors noticed this as well. The burly one then raised his fist and roared in victory, the rest of the sailors following his lead. Even Argent did the same. They had won.
But then, the boat rocked. Then, everyone heard rushing water and looked towards the head of the ship to see rising water. Then, a massive Thulhu burst out of the water, its roar making the entire ship shake.
"What... is THAT," Argent went.
"That, my boy," began the burly sailor. "Is a Dagon Thulhu. The second deadliest Thulhu variant."
"SECOND deadliest? There's something worse than that massive thing?"
"Yeah. But it doesn't matter," a sailor said as he sat down. "It's over. We had a good run. Gentlemen, it's been an honor."
Argent looked around and saw that the sailors were giving up. All of them dropped their weapons. One fell to the ground, the life leaving his eyes. He was just barely clinging to life before, but seeing the Dagon made him give up. Some gave their crewmates a handshake. Others a hug. Argent even swore he heard one say these words:
"I love you, brother."
"Love you, too, little brother. Think dad will have a mug ready for us?"
"Yeah. Knowing him, he will," the man said with a shaky voice.
Argent heard another crew member. "My love, forgive your husband. I'm sorry, my son. . . I wish I had the chance to tell you I loved you," he said before he began to sob.
Argent then looked at the burly sailor. He was standing tall and proud, one fist on his hip while his other hand was saluting. His pose basically said, "If I die, I die standing as what I am: a man."
Everyone was giving up... and Argent honestly couldn't blame them. They were exhausted beyond belief, used up their weapons, and their ammo, were barely alive after the fight with the pack of Thulhus... and honestly had no real way to fight this massive Dagon Thulhu. They really believed it was over.
Argent looked around before he sighed. He didn't even need to look at his scroll to know that he was in the red. The most he could do with his Semblance now is swing hard enough to create a Wind Blade capable of killing the Grimm in one blow. But Argent was way too exhausted. Even if he used his Semblance, he wouldn't be able to-
The Dagon roared right at Argent. That roar alone shattered Argent's Aura. His eyes widened. He was as vulnerable as the rest of the men. He couldn't even lift his sword anymore. 'Is this... really the end,' the boy thought. After all, he didn't have anything left. As he drew his sword out of the sheath, he stared at the blade, wondering if there was anything he could do, no matter how small.
Then, he saw his own reflection in his sword. Specifically... his eyes.
Argent stared at his silver eyes before he took a deep breath to calm himself. He then looked up defiantly at the monster and walked forward. The sailors looked up, watching as he got up close to the Dagon, the monster watching his every step. When Argent stood before the beast, he closed his eyes, making the sailors believe he had given up as well.
The Dagon reeled back its arm and swung down with its might, the wind screaming as the great arm rushed down, water fleeing from the beast.
However, before its arm reached Argent, he thought of his father, his mothers, his aunts, his uncles, Lyra, the people he cares about, and even about the sailors. Then, he saw his father again, the man putting his hand on his head.
'Argent, you're going to be an amazing Huntsman. Better than even me. After all... you're an Arc.'
With his father's words, Argent opened his eyes, the silver light bursting out. The Dagon screamed as it was engulfed in the light, vanishing within its brilliance.
When the light faded, the sailors uncovered their eyes. They were shocked to see the Dagon turned completely to stone before it began to crumble away into dust. They looked towards Argent, the boy standing tall before he groaned and fell back. The burly sailor was quick enough to catch Argent, carefully lifting him as the other sailors crowded around him.
Argent weakly opened his eyes, seeing the sailors around him. "Is it... over?"
"Yes, son. You just saved us," the burly sailor said with a smile beneath his mustache.
Argent smiled before he raised his fist. He then took a deep breath before he gave a victory cry, the sailors following his lead.
Meanwhile.
Argent was still being watched through the portal. The woman watching him grabbed a shrimp and ate it. "Ten years. Just ten years old and yet he's talented enough to survive a pack of Thulhu and use his eyes on a Dagon. Oh, I bet daddy would be proud of you, baby. Bah! And here I thought his father would be the only obstacle. Of course, his BRAT would be as much of a headache as he! Arc. Arc. Arc. It's always an ARC," the woman roared as she swung a tentacle, erasing the portal.
The plump woman then chuckled as she floated down and looked out a hole. "Well, it doesn't matter. Father, son, or better yet, both. They won't get in my way this time. After all, Jauney, my dear. . . This time, I'm not after Atlantica. No. This time," she began as she grabbed a dagger. "This time it will be YOUR HEAD," she roared as she threw the dagger, the blade stabbing into a photo of Jaune's face.
"And this time, thanks to a mutual friend of ours, I won't fail to break your neck this time, my dear," she said as she held up her hands, darkness floating from her palms. "Yes, this time, I will break your neck, and with you gone, Atlantica will fall next! AND I HAVE THE PERFECT GIFT FOR BOTH OF YOU!" The woman then began to laugh softly as she looked out the hole before it escalated into full-on mad laughter as she looked down into the abyss below her "home".
Within that abyss, something massive raised its head, opening its glowing red eyes, before it roared loudly, ready to be released.
Jaune slowly opened his eyes, the sun shining brightly. He groaned as he got up, looking to see he was on a rowboat. Before he could do anything, his head was gently grabbed as he was slowly placed back on a familiar, soft sensation, looking up at his wife. "You should rest a bit more, hero."
"Ahab?"
"He's fine. In worse shape than you, but he'll live."
"I take it we won?"
"Was there any doubt," she giggled. "You know, if you went all out, this Hunt would have ended much sooner."
"The Mobius wasn't mine to kill, Nim."
"I know."
It took a while before the rowboats reached the Red Oyster, everyone noticing how banged up it was. Jaune and Nimueh's boat reached the deck first, the parents looking around at the exhausted and battered crew.
"Hi, mom. Hi, dad."
The two looked toward their son.
"Arie?! What happened," Nimueh yelled as she ran and examined her battered and bruised son.
"Shi-shi-shi, you guys weren't the only ones on a Hunt, apparently."
"You would have been proud, heroes," the burly sailor said as he placed a beefy hand on the little guy's shoulder. "He fought like a true son of the sea! He's a soldier if there ever was one!"
"Then the lad has done well in protectin' me ship. He has me thanks fer that." Everyone looked at the voice, seeing Ahab being carried by two of his men, his pegleg completely gone.
"Is it over, captain?"
"Did you finally do it, sir?"
"Yes. After many years, too many for me to proudly count, the whale is dead. The dead have been avenged."
The sailors were quiet. Then, some of them began to tear up. Others took off their hats and placed them over their hearts in respect. Another went towards the rails, sobbing over it.
Some of them could be heard:
"Rest in peace, pa."
"You've finally been avenged, my love."
"Please be at peace, sister."
As they spoke, prayed, and cried, Ahab looked out at sea. When he did, he saw Calypso standing proudly on the sea. With a smile, she nodded at him, telling him how proud of him she was before turning and walking away, vanishing into the horizon of the sea. Ahab never took his eyes off of her as he wiped off a small tear.
He then stood up tall. "Buckle down, scallywags. We 'ave a job t' do." The sailors and the Arcs looked at him. "Did we or did we nah promise t' take the Arcs into the heart o' the sea, so that they may enter the undersea kingdom!? We fought, we survived, 'n we won! In other words... THIS WAS JUS' ANOTHER DAY FER THE SON'S O' THE SEA! ARE WE TOO WEAK T' TAKE A WEE FAMILY T' A WEE KINGDOM?!"
The sailors smirked before they threw their hats into the sky. "No sir, cap'n!"
"THEN UNFURL THE SAILS 'N PLOT THE COURSE T' ATLANTICA! WE 'AVE A JOB T' DO!"
"AYE, AYE, CAP'N!" The sailors then got to work, energized by the words of their captain. Even Ahab, who was given a spare pegleg by one of his crewmen, walked towards the wheel and began to steer, looking no worse for wear than any of his sailors.
The Arcs blinked.
"Wow, that was cool," Argent went.
"That's a sailor for ya, I guess," Jaune said as he crossed his arms.
"We just fought an SS-Class Grimm and they're moving around like they only threw a Beowolf overboard," Nimueh said before she sighed. "Being on a ship is crazy."
"Well, for us," Jaune said. "I swear, we might be the only ones in Remnant who get into this much trouble on an old-fashioned sailing ship.
Meanwhile.
A crew of Sea Faunus was working on a dark, soaked ship that looked like it should be sinking. It looked like a true ghost ship. The crewmen were sharpening swords, loading pistols, counting Dust, and loading cannons. Then, a Sea Faunus with an octopus beard walked up. He looked down at a map as a crewmember was talking to him. The Faunus looked displeased until he began to snap at the crewmen, the man now obviously terrified. It soon became evident why he was so scared when the man ruthlessly skewered the man on his sword and threw him overboard. He then sheathed his sword and went back over the charts as if nothing had happened.
Sparrow lowered his telescope, putting it away. "He's as ruthless as ever."
"I still can't believe he's alive," Quamar said. "You stabbed him through the heart."
"This time, I'll rip it out."
"Are you sure we can do this, boss," a woman with white hair, black eyes, and white wings asked? "The Soaring Mistrilian seems... different. Maybe we should involve the rest of the tribe."
"Dove, Oceanus was my problem. He was when we first met, and he is now. If you want to leave, I won't stop you. That goes for you, too, Raptor."
"Don't insult me, Sparrow," a lean man with black hair with brown highlights, yellow eyes, and talon-like fingernails said. "I'd follow you into the depths of hell itself. Besides, if Oceanus is alive, then I want to be there and make sure the life leaves his eyes this time. For Cotton's sake."
Sparrow nodded his head before looking at Dove. "Are you going to stay or leave?" Sparrow noticed the look in her eyes. "Dove?"
"It's him," she went angrily.
"Huh?"
"That man with Oceanus. His first mate. He's the one who tortured Cotton before Oceanus killed him. The man who tortured my uncle. The bastard that killed my parents while his men burned down my village," she said as angry tears fell down her cheeks. She then wiped them off before looking angry. "No. I'm not going. I'm going to kill him. I don't care about the rest. That one is mine," she growled.
Sparrow stared at Dove. This was one of the rare times he had seen her so angry. Still, he understood and nodded. He then stood up, his team following his lead. "It's time for the Soaring Mistrilian to sink into the abyss. This time, we'll make it permanent." As if on cue, the sky around them darkened.
As he was overlooking the map of Anima, a crewman walked up to Oceanus. "Captain, Branwen is here."
"I know."
"Well, can I at least inform you that he is on the move, headed towards the ship?"
Oceanus then looked up. He then began to chuckle evilly. "Finally. Prepare the call."
The pirate then smirked evilly. "As you wish, captain." He then walked away as Oceanus looked at the chart.
Oceanus then moved it to reveal a picture of Sparrow with his mask on. "I am looking forward to seeing you again, boy." He held up his hand, which was surrounded by darkness now. The darkness then began to take the shape of a crab claw. "I have a surprise for you," he said as he pinched the table snapping it and slicing the picture in half. "Two, in fact."
Then, with Oceanus's dark chuckle in the background, the depths of the sea, massive tentacles waves around before a pair of red eyes shined in the darkness, a low growl vibrating through the waters.
A/N: Yeah, next chapter is going to be a fun one. Jaune isn't the main character in that one, Sparrow is! The next chapter is going to be one of the extremely rare named chapters! That's right, it's joining the ranks of Jaune vs Winter! Next week, boys and ghouls, is Sparrow of the Sea!
I once asked you guys to tell me who your favorite character is, and I'll have to admit that Sparrow is one of my favorite characters. You'll see why next week. Just know that this kid is a badass. Four bandits vs an entire ship of pirates, and the bandits' leader is barely fourteen. Actually, all four of the bandits are just teenagers. You're about to see why Raven is proud of her son. . . And that line pissed off Yang, I'm sure.
Anyway, you guys know what to do: leave a review, favorite it, etc. ect.
Until next time!
