Olivia's case finally went to trial in the middle of August. Barba won and that made him okay in Olivia's book even if he played hardball with the witness to make the case stick.

Olivia started a case a week before labor day. Alex and Olivia talked in passing about setting something up for Calvin and his friends before they go back to school.

Calvin started school soon so as a last hurrah before classes started labor day weekend they had a cookout for him and his friends. His friends and their parents all showed up to Central Park and had a good day out mingling, eating, having low music playing in the background, the kids chasing each other with water balloons.

Olivia and Alex sat out in the lawn chairs talking with the other parents keeping an eye out on the kids. They saw a girl walk up to Calvin and his friends and shyly wave at them. Calvin's face lit up with a bright smile. Olivia and Alex both turned to look at each other. They both had the same thought. This was the girlfriend. Alex reached over and squeezed Olivia's hand.

"So much for a long distance relationship" Olivia mutters to her while taking a sip of her coffee.

"We should meet her, she could be the nicest girl ever" Alex says trying to sound optimistic.

"He's far too young to actually have a girlfriend. I thought she was going to stay in Vermont and he'd forget about her, we would still have time to prepare" Olivia huffed.

Alex looked amused at her.

"I told you, you'd be worse than me" Alex says with a smirk starting on her face.

Olivia looks at her deadpanned and just rolls her eyes at the statement. Alex's smirk widens and she gives Olivia a kiss on the cheek. Olivia softens at the gesture. They see her, Calvin and the rest of his friends start back up with running around throwing balloons at each other and sigh. Their little boy was growing up.

Calvin and Riley walked over to them hand in hand panting from running around. When they reached them she smiled shyly at them in greeting.

"Ma,Mom this is Riley. Can we have some water?" Calvin asked them, looking at the cooler that was sitting in between them.

"Hi Riley, it's very nice to meet you" Alex says first.

Olivia handed them both a bottle of water.

"Hello, we thought you lived in Vermont" Olivia replied back gently.

"Oh, my family was on vacation there. I'm originally from New York. It's so nice to meet you, Calvin's told me so much about you." Riley says, smiling at them.

"Yes, he's told us so much about you also. Did you have a fun summer?" Olivia asked back.

"I did!" Riley says back easily.

"Ma, her parents dropped her off. Is it okay if we take her home when we leave?" Calvin asked finishing off the rest of his water bottle.

"Yes" Olivia said.

"Absolutely" Alex said almost in unison.

They briefly smiled at each other then looked back to the kids in front of them.

"Are you ready to eat?" Olivia asked, getting up and handing them plates.

"I'm a growing boy, of course I'm hungry!" Calvin says laughing at his own joke.

Olivia affectionately rolled her eyes at him.

"Don't remind me" Olivia says back laughing with him.

Calvin and Riley go down the table and grab a few things then sit down on the blanket Alex had set out in front of them. After another two hours or so of playing around and eating they started to clean everything up while the kids were saying their goodbyes. When they were the only ones left they packed up the car and headed to take Riley home. When they got to her apartment building Riley thanked them and got out. When Olivia tried to walk her up, she politely declined and hurried into the building.

Alex opened the door to their apartment and they all shuffled in.

"I'm going to go shower" Calvin told them.

Alex and Olivia put the leftovers in the fridge and put up the chairs in the closet.

They finally sat down on the couch hearing the water start in the shower.

"So she lives in New York, don't you think he should've mentioned that" Olivia asked Alex.

"I don't think he was thinking about that, I think he was just excited to tell us about his summer romance" Alex says, threading their fingers together.

When Calvin got out of the shower, Alex and Olivia each showered and changed into pajamas. They started a movie after grabbing snacks to finish the night off.

Calvin started school later that week.

Olivia and Alex couldn't believe they had a freshman already.

The first month of school went by and summer turned to the beginning of fall.

Olivia and Alex were going to take Calvin and Riley to a baseball game when Olivia got the call that she had to head into work for two child abductions. One was a seven year old boy and the other was a one year old girl. Olivia told Alex she had to go and kissed them both before heading to work. Alex ended up taking both kids to the game, getting them both a foam finger, hot dogs, popcorn and cups of pop. After the game Alex had them head home and the kids played the wii in the living room where Alex could keep an eye on them. Olivia finally made it home late into the night exhausted. Calvin was already asleep in his room and Riley was picked up a few hours beforehand. Alex sat up late waiting up on Olivia to get home.

When Olivia walked in the door she saw Alex sitting on the couch with a blanket thrown over her. Olivia curled up in Alex's arms for a few minutes, Alex kissed her hair. They both got up and headed to their room going to bed.

The next morning Olivia was up showering while Alex made breakfast and Calvin was getting ready for school. Calvin was eating breakfast when Olivia made her way to the kitchen, she made herself a cup of coffee as Alex sat her plate down on the table. Olivia took a sip of her coffee and a bite of toast.

"How was the game?" Olivia asked him.

"It was really good, but they lost three to two" Calvin tells her.

"Well I'm just glad you had a good time." Olivia says grinning over at him.

" Definitely, and mom got me a foam finger , it matches my hat!" Calvin gushes excitedly.

"She did, did she?" Olivia asked with her eyes sparkling at his excitement.

Calvin nods his head excitedly.

They finished their breakfast and Olivia took him to school on her way into the precinct and Alex told him she'd pick him up.

Alex went to pick him up from school after basketball tryouts and he wasn't outside yet. Alex went into the school office building and talked with the secretary then made her way to the gym. Alex stood at the bleachers watching Calvin shooting the basketball around with some of the other kids. On the bleachers Alex saw Riley, Emily and Matt watching him as well talking amongst each other. The coach blew his whistle and all the kids came over to him. He talked with them for a few moments then dismissed them all. Calvin went over to the bleachers taking the offered water bottle from Riley and the towel from Matt to wipe the sweat off his face. Alex made her way over to the group of Calvin and his friends.

"Hey Cal, how were tryouts?" Alex asked him.

Calvin turned his head looking at Alex smiling.

"It was good he said we should hear by the end of the week!" Calvin tells her excitedly.

Alex grins at him.

"Good, I'm sure you did great" Alex tells him

"Oh he did more than great, he was a rock star" Matt said to her and the girls nodded their heads in agreement.

"Well I think this calls for take out, what do you think? Chinese? Pizza? Tacos?" Alex asked him as he picked up his bookbag?

"Can they have dinner with us mom?" Calvin asked her, lowering his voice as he stepped closer to her.

"Sure sweetheart" Alex tells him, ruffling his hair.

"Then can we have pizza?" Calvin asked louder.

"Absolutely, as long as you all eat some salad as well." Alex says pointing at all of them.

They all nod in agreement and they leave the school. Alex ordered the pizza in the car on the way home. When they got back to the apartment the kids started on their assignments until the pizza arrived and they started eating dinner.

Olivia got home shortly after stealing a few pieces of pizza out of the box.

Olivia saw Riley's eyes linger on her badge and gun when she got home but she safely locked him away in the safe in her and Alex's room.

Matt and Emily's dad came to pick them up after dinner and homework was done and he offered to take Riley home as well. Calvin said goodbye to his friends and went to sit in between Alex and Olivia.

"Thanks for letting them come over on a school night" Calvin tells them.

"I think it's great you guys help each other out with homework, everyone needs a study group" Olivia says putting her arm around the top of the couch behind him.

"They also stayed to watch his tryouts today" Alex tells her.

"Oh! That's great, how do you think it went?" Olivia questioned happily

"It went well! We should know by the end of the week" Calvin tells her just as excitedly as he told Alex at the school.

The rest of the week went by pretty quickly when Olivia caught a case on Thursday.

On Friday after school she was able to talk to Calvin on the way to the airport to take him to visit his grandparents. He excitedly told her he made the team and practices start the following week.

When Olivia got home from dropping him off Alex was already home in sweats and her hair pulled up in a messy bun typing away on her laptop. Olivia sat next to her giving her a kiss on the cheek in greeting.

"Calvin made the team" Olivia tells her, grinning.

"Oh, I had no doubt he would." Alex says back, turning her head to give Olivia a grin back at the news.

"Practices start next week" Olivia tells her.

"Sounds good, I have to sit in on a couple trials coming up but we should be able to pick him up when it's over. Dinners on the stove" Alex says back, continuing to type.

Olivia nods, getting up, going to the kitchen and making herself a plate of Italian chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. Alex continued to work until Olivia was done eating and already out of the shower drying her hair with a towel.

Olivia came up behind Alex kissing her lightly on her throat, she could feel Alex's breath hitch at the contact. Alex saved her work and sat the computer down on the table as Olivia was still kissing down her neck. Olivia moved Alex's hair out of the way and Alex turned her neck to give Olivia more access. Alex moaned as Olivia hit the sweet spot on her neck that made Alex's knees go weak. Alex pulled back quickly, getting up and pulling Olivia down the hallway to their room.

Over the next week they were all busy with practice, school and work.

While they were eating dinner one night after practice Calvin asked them if he could go to coney island nights of horror for Halloween with his friends. After checking in with their parents and confirming that Jake's parents were planning to stay the entire time and bring him home not too late because he had school the next day, they said yes.

On Halloween Calvin left them to hand out candy in the building giving them hugs and went downstairs where Jake's parents were waiting outside for him. Alex wore a witch hat, while Olivia had a wig on with a play bow and arrow sitting next to her. When they ran out of candy they decided to go in and start the Freddy movies waiting for Calvin to get home. They had pizza and popcorn with apple cider for their movie marathon. They only made it through two of them before falling asleep cuddled on the couch, the movie continuing to play on in the background.

Calvin came home a little while later to the credits playing on the tv screen. He locked the door behind him and turned off the tv before going to bed himself leaving his parents to sleep on the couch.
