"I care about you. And I'm not going to stop caring about you, no matter how hard you push me away."
A week or so had passed and everyone could already see that Alex was doing a lot better, he seemed happier and it was nice to see that he had some peace after so long.
"Careful, if you keep frowning and pouting like that you'll get wrinkles and be Dr. Hottie no more." Jo smirked, sipping her coffee as she joined him at the front desk on the ward.
"Shut up." He smirked back, taking the coffee from her and sipping it.
"Great, Karev germs are exactly what I want in my morning coffee." She said sarcastically with an eye roll.
"Sharing is caring, baby." He smirked, grabbing a clip board and walking off.
"Not this time!" She called back with a grin.
Meredith was on the same case as him since it was a big one. Whilst they were checking their patients vitals, Meredith gave him a look.
"What?" Alex asked, noticing her stare.
"Nothing." she replied with a shrug. "You just seem…happy." She added again.
He rolled his eyes and shrugged, "Whatever."
"It's nice to see. You don't have to hide yourself away Alex." She reassured him.
"I just…nevermind." He said, stopping himself.
"You just what?" Mer responded with an arched brow. Alex knew she would continue to press it and sighed to himself as he give in to her,
"I just don't want to open myself up again. Not like last time." He told her with a shrug. "But Jo, she's cool alright. Happy now?" He asked again sarcastically.
Meredith smiled at him from across the bed. "Opening yourself up to anyone is a risk Alex, it's if you're willing to take that risk to make yourself happy that's important."
"Yeah and what if it goes all wrong again?!" He asked her.
"You're Alex Karev. When I first met you, you Seattle Grace's manwhore, until Sloan walked through the door.." she laughed. "Look, all I'm trying to say is, you've got this and you'll have whatever else life throws at you and you'll have me. I'm not going to leave."
He looked at her and smiled slightly, "I hate you." He said with a grin.
"Hate you too." She said back with a small smile.
It had been a hectic morning, so busy. So, when he finally got the chance he went to go and find Jo. "Hey, if it isn't the devil herself." He smirked, watching her stitch up a patient.
"Are my horns really that obvious?" She teased back.
"Whatever." He said with a smirk. "Look uhm…are you uhm…do you wanna uhm.." he scratched the back of his head, why was he so hesitant?! He knew why, to save himself from all that pain again.
She laughed slightly. "You're cute." She mumbled.
"I'm not cute." He said with a pout and a frown.
"There's that frown again, I wasn't kidding about the wrinkles you know."
"You know what, just forget it." He said going to turn away.
"Yes, I'm off tonight and yes I'd love to grab a drink with you." She said to him before he could leave.
He turned his head slightly, "cool.." he said with a small nod before leaving again.
It had been a long day and Alex was ready for a drink. "Nervous for your date Karev?" Sloan smirked at him.
"What date?" Alex asked with an arched brow.
"With the hottie surgeon Jo." He said with a shrug.
"It's not a date."
Sloan laughed slightly. "Sure it isn't." He smirked walking away. Alex clenched his jaw and saw Jo in the distance.
"Hey!" He called over to her. "Are you telling people this is a date?! It's not a date!" He told her really defensive.
"Woah…no I didn't." She said simply.
"Oh yeah? So why am I getting grilled for it?! It's not a date!"
"Bold of you to assume I'd date you. You're sloppy, disgusting, an idiot and a complete douchebag…do I have to go on?!" She said folding her arms, she matched his fire and his attitude.
"You know what, just forget the entire thing." he said simpy, holding his hands up and walking away.
Alex was at the bar that night, alone as he was most nights. Not that he'd end up alone. He'd go with any girl that would help him forget about Izzie. Sipping on his beer he clenched his jaw, looking through some of the messages on his phone from Izzie. He hadn't deleted them, he couldn't. Whilst lost in his thoughts Jo came storming up to him.
"You don't get to talk to me like that! Not at work, not here, not anywhere, not ever!" She told him. "Do you hear me?! I am a woman! I am your colleague and you owe me some respect. I'm sorry your wife left you but I didn't do a single thing wrong to you so quit taking it out on me!" She told him with a frustrated tone before walking away.
He clenched his jaw and rolled his eyes, "Just shut up and drink with me." He told her simply, turning to face her. She clenched her jaw and looked at him, "Fine…but you're paying for everything." She told him simply, sitting on the stool next to him.
"Fine." He said simply. "But it's not a date."
"It's not a date."
