Chapter 3
36 Hours Later
The missing Kiri nins, Team Kakashi minus Sasuke who's nursing his injuries back at Tazuna's place, and Tazuna himself were gathered around a massive stone Zabuza sliced off a boulder at the base of the mountain. On it was carved the following words: ''Nariana Uzumaki, October 10th 604 to May 5th 617. The daughter of one Kushina Uzumaki, the last of her clan.''
Zabuza knelt down before the headstone, then moved his right hand to a pocket on his right leg. He opens the pocket and pulls out a small black scroll, a scroll he had taken from a Shinobi from the Land of Marsh a few years back.
Haku stood there in respectful silence and watched Zabuza as he unrolls the scroll, then he moves his hands over it, focusing chakra over the several seals as several types of incense appear as well as oils and what appeared to be several stones/crystals.
"Hello Kakashi." Zabuza greets the copy nin, who is slowly walking up the small path leading to his student's final resting place without turning to look at him. ''Here to pay your final respects?'' He asked.
Standing close to him from his right, Sakura was holding Kakashi's flank vest tightly. Her large green eyes darted back and forth from the two men and masked youth.
"Good afternoon Zabuza, and yes I am, I owe her that much." Kakashi greets back as he moves to the far right of Zabuza and kneels down with Sakura following suit with a large bouquet of pink lilies and orange roses held within her other hand. "Several of the villagers have also joined in to pay their respects for Nariana, since she got rid of Gato for them." He tells the missing nin while Sakura extends the bouquet to him.
Zabuza grunts as he takes it and places it on the grave, along with Myrrh, Frankincense, Benzoin and Dragon's Blood. Then placed white and blue sage into a seashell pendant he drapped upon the tombstone, and finally he set up of the group of crystals composed of clear quartz, black tourmaline, black obsidian, black jade, pyrite, and smithsonite in a circle around it.
"What…what are you doing?" Sakura softly stutters out her question to Zabuza, who looks at her with a lazy eye.
''Setting up for a Hidden Swamp style Funeral. Turns out your teammate's family has ties in Marsh Country, maybe even to the Hidden Swamp Village, and sense she hated by your village with a passion and will never get the chance to see Marsh or Swamp, I figured this is the closest thing to experiencing her other culture that she'll get.'' He explained to the pinkette.
Now this has Kakashi staring at the back of Zabuza's head. "How would you know something like that?" He questions as his lone eye slowly blinks with confusion.
Zabuza turned his head towards the right, glancing at the silver-haired man with deadpan annoyance. "You truly are clueless, are you Copycat. What blondie has done here yesterday Is using a bloodline from the Land of Marsh. A powerful bloodline, one even more powerful than what that brat she had left blind before her death had. The Bloodline of a Loa" He growls out at the man.
"What's the Land of Marsh?" Sakura questions the bandage man. "I have never heard of it before, and what's a Loa?" She finishes as she glances back towards her sensei.
"The Land of Marsh at one time had been a powerful country with its own shinobi village, the Village Hidden in the Swamp. As powerful as the Land of Whirlpools, our long lost sister village. As for what a Loa is, the Ninjas of the hidden swamp possess a religious system called ''Voodoo'' that worships nature spirits that wonders and protects Marsh, those are the Loa. The ninjas pray and make offerings to them in exchange for letting them borrow their power, which they use to create their own jutsus." Kakashi tells her as he leans back, tilting his head up towards the heavens as he closes his lone eye.
"Oh." Is Sakura's only answer.
"That village you protect has truly fallen even if she doesn't know about Marsh or Whirlpool." Zabuza tells him as he turns back around with small bottles of lavender oil, thyme oil and rosemary oil, all having some pieces of paper wrapped around each of them and began mirroning the drawings with each oil that the drawings belong to on the ground, on the left, right and front of the stone, never once turning back to look at the two Hidden Leaf ninjas.
'Does Nariana really have ties within those two villages?' Sakura questions herself. Once she returns to the village she will need to head to the library and do some research on them, and if they don't have any info on those 2 villages, which she seriously doubts, she'll have to find Ino, Shikamaru, and Shino to ask if she can look through their private libraries for it.
At the same time, Zabuza watched the pinkette out of the corner of his right eye and smirked through his bandages. 'Good, I have planted the seed that will make the blondies generation question everything that has been taught by those bastards.' He thinks to himself with a silent chuckle.
In the span of an hour, several villagers of the Land of Waves came and paid their respect to the Hero of their land, a few who didn't contribute to the earlier mourning bouquet brought their own flower to put on her. Soon enough Tazuna was next to come, set a small bouquet of 3 white roses on the grave, 1 for each member of his household, and then went to place a hand on the missing nin's left shoulder. "Thank you, for giving us someplace to pay our respects." He tells the man.
Zabuza grunts at him. "I did not do this for you or anyone else. I did this for a child that had most of her life robbed from her because of a village full of bigots and ingrates." He answers as he pushes himself off the ground, standing to his full 6'4 and grabbing his sword he had lent next to the headstone. "Come on Haku, It's time to leave." He tells the masked boy. With that said, an ice mirror appears before the two and they step into it before it falls to the ground into millions of pieces.
Tazuna then looks towards Kakashi. "The bridge will be named after your fallen student as we owe her way too much." He tells the copy nin before handing him an envelope. "That should cover the higher ranking mission." He tells him while looking down at him from over his glasses.
One Week Later
Kakashi stands at the end of the Great Nariana Bridge, his lone black eyes staring upon a plack that appears to be made of gold with the girl's name engraved on it. Below her name holds the girl's date of birth and the day of her death, or so he believes.
"Alright everyone, let's return home." Kakashi tells his two remaining students as he turns around on his heel and double checks the end of the rope that is tied to his belt that leads towards Sasuke, who is standing there frowning with his eye holes concealed with bandages and his fist slowly clutching.
Sakura just stands off to the left of the two males of her team as they walk, watching her former crush get angry again. During the week they had to wait before they could leave, Sasuke had been nasty to her and continuously angry about everything, the only time he wasn't angry is when he slept. Needless to say he showed her his true personality, and now she wasn't so sure if she likes him anymore. "Euh, Sensei." She says, coming out of her thoughts.
"Yes, Sakura-chan?" Kakashi questions as he gives her a slight nod.
"What will happen to Team 7 now?" Sakura questions as it had been bugging her since she had spoken to Zabuza.
Kakashi lets out a long sigh. "Sasuke will have to retire from being a shinobi due to his injuries, and with Nariana dead, team 7 will be permanently disbanded and you shall be placed into the reserves until you are assigned to a new team." He answers her honestly as growls and mumbles are heard coming from the teen emo.
Village gates one week later
Kakashi stops before the massive gates of the Hidden Leaf, Closing his one eye and taking a deep breath. "Alright everyone, we are finally back home. Sasuke I shall be taking you to the Hospital first before Sakura and I will head to Hokage-sama to give our mission report." He tells his now former student.
"Whatever." Grunts Sasuke, sweaty and tired from their trip home and just wants a place to rest.
With that said, Kakashi leads his student's towards the Chunin Guard Shack to sign them back in.
Kotetsu and Izumo look up from their card game as they had finished their paperwork. "Hello Kakashi." Kotetsu greets Kakashi.
Izumo frowns at the sight of Team 7. "What happened to the Uchiha? And where is Nariana?" He questions with Indifferent curiosity for Sasuke, but sadness mixed with worry for Nariana.
"Hello Kotetsu, Izumo." Kakashi returns the greeting happily, but when he hears Izumo's question, he looks down at the book he had signed out in. "Nariana is dead." He answers softly, ignoring the first question.
"WHAT!?" Both Kotetsu and Izumo scream. This has Team 10, who was passing by, stop as they look towards the gates to see Team 7 had returned, but someone was missing from the four man team.
"Where's Nariana?" Choji questions as he glances at his two best friends.
Asuma frowns as he drops his cigarette from his lips onto the ground, snuffing it out with his right foot. "I'm not sure, but we'll find out." He tells his students before they all walk towards Team 7.
Shikamaru was the first to notice the state Sasuke is in and how Sakura refuses to be anywhere near him. "Asuma-sensei, something is not right." He speaks up.
"I agree." Asuma answers his lazy student before they reach Team 7. "Yo Kakashi, Your mission has taken longer than expected." He greets the silver-hair man.
Kakashi's body flinches at hearing his friend's voice, but he slowly raises his head and looks towards his right to see Asuma along with his students. "Hello to you, Asuma. We had some unforeseen events that had happened during our mission that made it last longer then it should have." He answers simply.
"The only good thing to come from this fucken mission is that the fucking bitch is dead." Sasuke hisses out as he clenches his fists more, a dark aura surrounds his body as he trembles where he is standing.
Ino and Choji gasp at what had come out of Sasuke's mouth. As for Shikamaru, he narrowed his hazel brown eyes at the fool standing before him.
Then moves quickly to wrap his hand around the collar of Sasuke's shirt and bring him to his face. "Sasuke Uchiha you are a fucking entitled bastard. The world doesn't fucking revolves around you ass like the Moon revolving around the earth. Nariana was your teammate, a fellow shinobi, not a damn stepping stone you can crush under the weight of your massive ego." He growls out at the spoiled Uchiha.
"Let go of me. You're nothing but trash, your clan is bullshit and nothing to this village." Sasuke spat out as he raised his weakened arms to grab onto the shadow users arms.
Shikamaru grits his teeth as his eyes harden and he glares at the trash held within his hands. "Sasuke, this village has wronged you since the day your clan was wiped out. They had bent over backwards each and everyday to kiss that shitty ass of yours. They never gave you the help you truly needed, only jutsu scrolls and the misguided impression that you deserve everything for being the last ''Loyal'' Uchiha. Letting you get away with everything and doing their best to keep you out of the Hokage's radar by having you see a Civilian Therapist. But it's not a Civilian Therapist you should have seen, you should have been sent to see a Shinobi Therapist who's better suited to help you with the kind of trauma you've been going through. But, those idiots have failed horribly, and now this is what the rest of us have to deal with: An entitled brat that needs to have his ego knocked down several notches." He growls out, which only makes Sasuke angrier and struggles more to break free of the Shadow user's grip. His struggles eventually caused them both to fall on the ground and start a cat fight.
Kakashi slowly makes a step towards them to stop the fight, but Asuma steps before the man, shaking his head. "No, this has to be done. It is time we stop cuddling him and treat him like a real shinobi, with all the responsibilities that come with it, in success or failure, even if he is no longer able to serve our village as such." He tells Kakashi, making the silver haired man flinch once more, as he knows what Asuma is saying is true and very similar to what Nariana said before she died. "You're right." He answers just above a whisper.
Meanwhile, Sakura slowly moves towards Ino and Choji with Ino noticing her former friend coming closer to her, looking scared. She pulls the pinkette into a hug as Choji moves closer to them. "Sakura….what happened?" Ino questions with a shaky voice.
She looks up at Ino with her emerald green eyes puffy and red, with tears brimming around them. "Nariana killed the man that had tried taking over the country we had been sent to. She killed all his thugs too and somehow built a bond with two missing shinobi from the Hidden Mist Village." She tells Ino.
Ino's eyes widen at hearing this as she glances at Choji, who is standing there looking down at Sakura and herself. "What else happened?" She questions once more.
A choked sob escapes Sakura's lips before continuing. "After the battle was over. Nariana walked up to Sasuke and took his …well…his ability to have children." She tells them with a stutter in her voice as her tears continue rolling down her cheeks in streams.
"What?" Ino questions just loud enough to be heard by the two. "You mean it was Nariana that ended Sasuke's Shinobi career?" She questions as her teal eyes move towards the two boys still fighting on the ground, then up at the two sensei's who just watch.
"Yes…..but, Sasuke honestly deserved it." Sakura tells the two as she looks away with shame for agreeing with her late teammate. "But honestly, I don't think it would do anything to change anything about him, this village worships the ground he walks upon and always will, even if he's blind and neutered." She adds, looking back at the two.
"Wow." Choji breathes out with shock, lacing that single word as his eyes widen at what he heard and just thinking about her words as well. "I believe you are right." He answers with regret.
Ino's eyes glide over towards Choji, her heart breaking slowly as she drops her head. She had used this past month apart from Sasuke and the other members of Team 7 to think about some things, mainly her crush on Sasuke and her attitude towards Nariana and came to several conclusions that got her to change how she sees them in general. Letting out a huff, she looks back at Sakura and Choji. "I agree, I had spent the last month listening to all the gossip…. the villagers had been saying about Sasuke and Nariana…." She told the two as she shakes her head, not sure if she wanted to tell the two the whole truth.
"What I had heard, It..it was bad. The villagers blamed Nariana for everything wrong with this village, like bewitching Itachi into murdering his clan. They have been praying to Kami that she wouldn't do the same to Sasuke and leading him down a dark path." Ino told the two.
Choji looks at her with shock. "How? Nariana was just a child when Itachi went wako and murdered his clan and left Sasuke all alone. I don't even think she ever saw Itachi before, let alone talked to him or got close enough to him to be bewitched." He tells them.
Sakura and Ino slowly nodded in agreement to what he had just said. "I know, it makes no sense at all. Makes me wonder if it is truly worth protecting most of these people living within our village." Sakura tells the two as they seem shocked to hear this.
"Damn it Sasuke, you should have been the one to die in the Land of Waves, not Nariana as she is 100 times the shinobi you will ever be." Shikamaru growls out at the jackass that he pinned beneath him.
Now this has the three teenagers eyes widened at hearing Shikamaru's outburst at the loser below him.
Shikamaru's hands tighten on the high collar of Sasuke's shirt as he slams the boy's head against the dirt road beneath them several times. Sasuke tries to grip Shikamaru's wrist tightly to try to break the other boy's hold upon him, but so far it hasn't worked.
"She needed to die. It was her fault that my brother had gone insane and killed my clan." Sasuke hisses out at Shikamaru. Who slightly loosened his grip.
"What the fuck man? How could she? She was only 4 or 5 years old when your clan died and she's never met your brother before." Shikamaru growls out.
"I don't give a fuck. The Civilian Council told me the truth about that demon bitch." Sasuke spat out with pure venom.
Shikamaru's right hand loosens on Sasuke's collar as he draws his right arm back, balling his right hand into a fist and punches the jackass in the jaw. Hopefully breaking the prick's jaw.
"I don't know what the council told you, but they and you are wrong. The night your brother had gone mad, Nariana had been at my house eating dinner with my family and i." Shikamaru growls out. "She had nothing to do with anything. She was just this Kami-forsaking village's scapegoat since she was born and for what?" Shikamaru tells him as he slams Sasuke's head off the ground once more. Blood was now slowly trickling out of the corner of Sasuke's mouth as he lost consciousness from the blows.
This is when Asuma comes up behind his student and pulls him off the boy that lays there not moving. "That is enough Shikamaru." He tells him with a tone of finality.
"Yeah, whatever. He isn't worth my time anyhow." Shikamaru growls out as he moves back towards his friends. ''Let's go, we need to head to the tower for a mission." He tells Ino and Choji as he lets out a long sigh.
"Yea…yeah.." Ino stutters out. She had never seen Shikamaru behave this way. He had always been more of a 'whatever. Just leave me alone and I'll leave you be' type of guy.
Next to her, Sakura just blinks while looking at her sensei, who is now picking up the boy off the ground bridal style. "Come on Sakura. We need to get him to the hospital now more than ever." He tells her. She nodded and followed close behind, but then turned her head around to glance back at the two gate guards, who now had their backs turned. Pretty much showing her that they hadn't seen anything or pretending they didn't, she hoped it was the latter.
Meanwhile, in the land of Marsh near the Hidden Swamp Village
Nariana slowly pulls herself upon the shoreline of the swamp she had somehow drifted into after days of traveling underwater in a green bubble created by her new powers. Blinking and Panting heavily, she Looked up to the tree line to see the full moon shining brightly above her, confirming that it was nightfall. Gathering what strength she had left, she weakly struggled to pull herself on the solid ground. Once she did it, she passed out from her long struggle against the sea.
Later
As the early dawn light breaks through the marshland, three hedgehogs are seen together on a boat fishing.
Or at least the first two hedgehogs, one with Black Fur and red stripes and the other with silver white fur are fishing, the third one, a blue hedgehog, was just trembling in fear and gripping his fishing rod for dear life 'Man, if i knew that this week's food run was going fishing i would have never traded jobs with Knuckles, i hate water.' The poor hedgehog thought while trembling harder, causing the boat to tremble and the black hedgehog to snap.
''Damn it Sonic, could you please get a grip, you're making the fish swim away.'' He growled.
That made Sonic finally stop trembling, only for him to turn around and glare at Shadow. "Why don't you stop being a jackass instead." He growls back out.
Shadow snorts at his friend, who could almost pass for his twin, sitting across from him on the little boat. "I may be a jackass like you say, but at least I'm not a crybaby like you." He tells him with a smirk on his face.
"I can't help it, I'm scared of the water, you know that." Sonic huffs, thinking how insensitive he was being to his plight, again.
''You wouldn't be scared of the water if you learned how to swim, seriously faker everyone in the village knows how to swim except you, get over what's blocking you already.'' Shadow said, he had a thought about cowardly and childish Sonic being with water, again.
"That is enough for you two. We need to gather enough fish for the village, so Shadow stop being a jackass and Sonic, stop being a crybaby and fish." Silver huffs/growled out, growing tired of these too, every time they go on a food run together it's the same thing. "Next time I'll convince Knuckles to come instead. At least he is pleasant company." He tells them as he narrows his golden yellow eyes upon the two fools.
"Fine by me." Shadow tells him before resume fishing.
''Ditto for me too'' Sonic said before returning to fishing, this time trying not to tremble.
"Good." Silver said, and peace and silence returned once more.
To calm his still frazzled nerves, Sonic closes his green eyes and performs a breathing exercise that Mama Odie had taught him whenever he was too close to water for comfort. 'Alright Sonic, relax. You know Silver will not allow anything to happen to you if you fall in. So, don't worry.' He mentally told himself, getting his racing heart under control once more. Slowly, he reopens his eyes to continue fishing, when his eyes spotted a tiny island nearby. At first he thought. 'That would make a nice napping spot for later.' But when narrowing his eyes, he sees slight movement within the tall grass, which is a strange sense no animal lives or goes near such small islands.
"What's wrong Sonic?" Silver questions as he notices that something caught the blue hedgehog attention, and it wasn't fish in the water.
Snapping out of his trance, the blue hedgehog shakes his head as he turns to the right to look at Silver. "There is something moving in the tall grass of that island over there. I'm not sure, but I think it might be an injured bird or crocodile." He tells the other hedgehog.
Silver studies Sonic for a moment before he moves his eyes towards where his friend had been looking at. He quirks his right eyebrow while staring into the tall grass, not seeing a thing and thinking that maybe his friend's mind finally snapped from panic. But then, he saw it and his eyes widened: Strawberry blonde hair, that is no bird or croc, that's a human.
Reaching his hand out to Shadow's head. Silver turns Shadows' head towards where Sonic and himself are staring at.
"What?" Shadow demands of Silver. But, before anything else could be said, he spots the strawberry blonde hair sticking up slightly from behind the grass and his eyes also widen.
"Is…is that a human?" Shadow questions as he is shocked to see a human in the middle of the swamp that's not a Ninja from the hidden swamp, as far as they knew at least sense he can't see anything that would indicate otherwise.
"I….." Sonic stutters out as he turns to look at the other two, really not sure himself.
"We need to see if they are okay, or Mama Odie won't be happy that a possibly injured person was abandoned in the swamp." Silver tells the two.
Shadow was so not on board with the idea, for all they know she could be an enemy ninja or a rogue swamp ninja laying out a trap for other unsuspected ninjas, but he was forced to resign to the ideas when both he and Sonic swallow dryly at the memory of the last time they had gotten in trouble with the elderly Voodoo Priestess, the woman can dish out spankings harsher than their own mothers could. "Yeah, let's go make sure they are okay, then we'll see what to do next." Sonic said with slight fear in his tone.
Sonic and Shadow row their boat towards the small island to investigate.
Once they had finally reached the island, Sonic took it upon himself to check it out, anything to get off that boat and onto solid grounds. "Just be careful Faker, it might be a trap." Shadow called out after he stands up and jumps off the little boat and lands upon the sand of the island, hearing him but not replying back.
Slowly, he walked to the tall grass and pushed past it, allowing him to spot a strawberry blonde hair girl with green locks mixed into it curled up into a tiny ball, slightly trembling and sweating. "Silver, Shadow come here, it's just a young girl and I think she has a fever." He orders his 2 friends.
Shadow and Silver shared a look with each other, then slowly they both nodded their heads and jumped off the boat and headed right over to where Sonic is standing, seeing that the unconscious intruder is in fact a girl and that she does look sick with a mild fever. "Will need to fetch Mama Odie and bring her here. It would be a bad idea to move her as sick as she seems to be, and if she has a hidden injury." He told them.
"For once Faker we agree on something. Let's get back on the boat and get her" Shadow said and went back to the boat along with Silver, but strangely Sonic wasn't moving from the girl's side at all. ''You coming Sonic?'' Silver asked, but Sonic shook his head with a smile. "You guys go get Mama Odie, i'll stay here to protect the girl from crocs, and try to wake her up." He tells Silver who nodded, but Shadow didn't look convinced.
"And what makes you think you're the best qualified to play Babysitter Faker." Shadow asked with the usual bite in his tone.
"Two very good reasons, Shads." Sonic said with his famous cocky smile. "One, Mama Odie likes you and Silv more than me, and Two, my devilish good looks and winning personality are more likely to put a friend here at ease than your ugly mug and sourpuss attitude ever will." He said while pulling his tongue at him in the end, causing the black hedgehog's anger to rise and his eyes to light in flames.
Shadow grit his teeth, ready to explode to Sonic's hope and Silver's fear. But instead he took a couple of deep breaths to calm himself and turned away. "Whatever Faker, you are not worth it." He growls out before jumping on the boat.
Sonic smirks at him, knowing he had gotten under Shadow's fur once more. Those are the victories he enjoys the most. "Whatever you say shads, now Hurry up, if you keep wasting time like this. Mama Odie will be upset." He told them.
Silver lets out a long sigh as he jumps on to the boat. "Come on. You know he is right." He told the other. "Fine." He simply said before picking up the oar and started rowing with Silver as quickly as they could. The mystery girl is on borrowed time and they need to fetch Mama Odie quickly.
Back on the Island, Sonic lets out a sigh as he looks around himself. Seeing a piece of dry driftwood, he got the idea of making a fire to keep the sick girl warm and moved to get the piece, and several more that he could find. After a while, there was a roaring fire before the two.
Sonic carried the girl princess style closer to the fire and set her down as comfortably as he could. Then he sat right next to her…
"So, who are you exactly?" Sonic asked the girl lying next to him, even though he knew he wouldn't get an answer from her, not yet anyway. His line of questioning pauses as he notices the blonde is moving, curling up right next to him as her shivering slightly stops, she's using his body heat to warm herself up instead of the fire.
Sonic chuckles as he leans closer to the girl. "Sure, go ahead and use my body, pretty girl like you could use a hot guy like me." He tells her with a smile and his furred cheeks heating up from the blush he is now sporting.
He just let's a sigh as the only answers he received from the sickly girl was just soft breathing and her arms suddenly wrapped around him, making him blush even more from their contact and rendering him speechless.
I have to say this last part is Fluffy sweetness. Lol
I do hope y'all enjoy the latest chapter. Until next time we say laterz Kittens.
