Not a lot of villain attacks happened for the rest of the Shoto Agency's first day, but the women of the agency did assist in catching various small-time crooks and assisting at fire and rescue scenes. The next day, Todoroki was the first into the office, and he started his day by catching up on some paperwork. He headed into the break room.
"Hi!" Todoroki's women all waved at him and smiled.
"Wha…?"
Not only were Shoto's Angels happy to see Todoroki, but he noticed a bunch of baked goods on the break room table.
"What's all this about?" asked Todoroki.
"Oh, I decided that we should do something to show how much we appreciate you!" said Deko.
Todoroki smiled nervously and rubbed the back of his head. "Oh…er…thank you. I…I hadn't expected this…"
"Just think of it as a reward for being so nice to us!" said Hagakure.
"Heh heh…thank you!" Todoroki cleared his throat and put on a straight face. "Well, let's get down to business: I want to congratulate each and every one of you for the work you put in yesterday. According to the statistics I received from the LAPD's CompStat system, crime was down 6% compared to the day before, and the LAFD credits us with ten lives saved. That may not seem like much, but over time, if we keep getting out there and doing our jobs, then it will really add up. As a matter of fact, I was watching the news recently and saw a report about Ashido and Hagakure stopping Nucleon, so let's give them a hand."
Everyone gave a round of applause for Ashido and Hagakure, who beamed with happiness at the recognition.
"Moving on, I got a report from the CHP about an auto theft ring operating in this city. Not much is known about them, but let's presume that they're armed and extremely dangerous. As a matter of fact, I've decided to set up a car as bait for them, and I need two volunteers to tail the vehicle. Whoever undertakes this operation will get paid double for today. Any volunteers?"
A bunch of women shot their hands up.
"Hmmm…" Todoroki stroked his chin. "If no one has any objections, I'd like Deko and Uraraka to go ahead."
Nobody seemed to object, and Deko and Uraraka looked at each other, eagerly anticipating not only the bump in pay, but also working with each other on a special assignment.
Getting a car was easy enough for Todoroki, for he acquired one from an LAPD impound lot. Finding a place to put it, however, was a different story altogether. According to the intel that he'd received from the California Highway Patrol, the auto theft gang chose cars at random spots throughout the city. However, they all had one thing in common: they were high-dollar luxury cars and exotics, hence why he chose a 1974 Stutz Blackhawk as the bait car. Deko and Uraraka were in their Nova, parked on West Olympic Boulevard in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood, on the side of the street across from the bait car, which had its doors unlocked and the keys still in the ignition.
"Hey Deko, what'cha got over there?" asked Uraraka.
Deko lowered the Kokuyo Campus notebook she was scribbling in. "Um…well…it's a surprise, but let's just say it has something to do with something you said on the first day!"
Uraraka smiled. "Ah, I get it!"
Aside from this little bit of amusement, for Deko and Uraraka, their job was just waiting, more waiting, and even more waiting. While Deko did enjoy the prospect of double pay, she was beginning to wonder if anyone would even steal the car. Then, she got out of the Nova.
"Where are you going?" asked Uraraka.
"I'm hungry; I'm gonna get a snack. Want anything?"
"No thanks, but I appreciate the offer!"
Deko went to the ARCO gas station across the street and bought a bag of pork jerky. Just as she was heading back to her car, she spotted somebody getting into the Blackhawk, so she hurried back to her Nova, only to nearly get run down by a couple of cars, who honked their horns at her.
"Hey, watch it, lady!" said one irate driver.
"Sorry!" Deko waved at the irate motorist.
Deko got back behind the wheel of the Nova just as the thief was starting up the Blackhawk. Even if the thief had managed to get a considerable distance away, Hatsume had bugged the bait car beforehand so Deko and Uraraka could more easily track it using the Nova's on-board laptop. Because of this, Deko waited a little bit before electing to follow the bait car, and Uraraka radioed in their progress to Jiro:
"Unit Adam-2 to HQ, a suspect has taken the bait and is currently eastbound on South La Brea Ave."
"Unit Adam-2, 10-4. Continue to follow the suspect."
Deko and Uraraka continued following the bait car. Finally, after a couple hours' worth of waiting, it felt liberating for Deko knowing that somebody had finally taken the bait. Granted, she still had some anxiety about not knowing what exactly the gang was prepared to do, though she had a feeling that it was quite a large, well-organized outfit if they were stealing high-end cars all over the City of Angels. She did her best to take comfort in the fact that both she and Uraraka had some nifty Quirks in addition to being quite heavily armed. Similarly, Uraraka felt a sense of relief from something finally happening. Like Deko, she too wondered just what this gang of car thieves had in store for them. Nevertheless, she thought back on the training that Todoroki had given them and figured that this in combination with her Quirk and Deko's would get them through. Eventually, the suspect turned onto Route 110, which made both Deko and Uraraka wonder just how far they'd have to go to find out where the car theft ring operated from. Nevertheless, they were committed to going as far as possible if it meant completing their mission and earning double pay. They would soon find out just how far the suspect was going when he crossed over the Vincent Thomas Bridge. A few twists and turns later, and the Blackhawk pulled into a freight yard on Terminal Island. Deko and Uraraka drove a couple of ways down Earle Street before parking their Nova.
"This is it, Uraraka. Ready?"
Uraraka nodded. "Ready."
Deko and Uraraka hopped out of their car, popped the trunk open and each grabbed an Uzi + ammo before hopping the chain link fence. Initially, they stayed low, waiting for just the right time to strike. Soon enough, they came upon a spot in the freight yard where there were a bunch of vehicles either being packed in shipping containers or waiting to be packed into them. Already, they could tell that more than a few people there were armed. However, this didn't deter them much, and when the time was right…
"ALL RIGHT, EVERYONE FREEZE!" shouted Deko.
Seeing only the two heroes there, the car thieves were undeterred and opened fire on them.
"Uh-oh!" said Deko and Uraraka.
Thus far, the thieves seemed to be shooting as if they'd been trained at the Imperial Marksmanship Academy, but Deko and Uraraka weren't about to take chances. Dodging gunfire as best as they could, they laid down a few bursts from their Uzis while Deko aimed a couple of Delaware Smashes at random criminals and objects such as crates and shipping containers. In the bedlam, they managed to get to cover behind a Cadillac Sixty Special without incurring injury, but one problem remained…
"Deko, there's too many of them! What do we do?"
"Try using your Quirk on this car! Maybe we can use it as moveable cover!"
"Right!"
Uraraka touched the Cadillac and caused it to float off the ground just enough for her to be able to move it. Trying to stay behind the car's engine block for maximum protection, Deko and Uraraka moved around and returned fire at their opponents. Quite a few criminals got gunned down, but the rest of them persisted in trying to shoot the two heroes. Thus far, it appeared that things were going well for the heroes.
"Don't worry, boys!" said a mysterious voice. "I'll stop these intruders!"
All of a sudden, a boulder nearly clobbered Deko and Uraraka, and they found its source: a slim, muscular man with brown hair in a ponytail. He was wearing a pair of Wayfarer sunglasses, a brown leather jacket and blue jeans, presumably the leader of this car theft ring. He attempted to conjure another boulder to throw at Deko and Uraraka, but Deko used a Delaware Smash to destroy it. Meanwhile, they kept gunning down the random thugs who came at them, although Deko recognized that they'd have to take down the boulder villain if they were to have any hope of succeeding. Unfortunately, they somehow managed to back themselves in a corner…
"Give it up, you two!" said the thieves' leader. "Put down your weapons and put your hands up!"
Deko and Uraraka did so. However, Uraraka noticed that in doing so, the Cadillac they were using as cover was still floating away, so she tried to influence where it was going, and when the time was right, she touched her fingertips together.
"What the hell…!?" said the thieves' leader.
With her Quirk cancelled, the Cadillac landed right on top of the boulder villain and crushed him. While the other thugs were shocked by this development, Deko and Uraraka quickly scooped up their Uzis and held the rest of the thugs at gunpoint.
"Unless anyone else wants to end up like your boss did, drop your guns and put your hands up!" said Deko.
All of the thieves complied, and police sirens could be heard approaching the yard.
Meanwhile, back at HQ, Hatsume was heading for the armory when Jiro approached her.
"Hey Hatsume, I'm going on break. Mind covering my post for a bit?"
Hatsume gave a thumbs up. "Sure thing, Jiro!"
"Cool."
Jiro headed for the break room. She was surprised to hear a loud groaning coming from there, and when she opened the door, she saw Todoroki doubled over in one chair, clutching his stomach, in addition to the packages for the baked goods all being opened.
"Todoroki, what's wrong?"
"Urgh…I…I was so excited about trying all of your treats, and I…I think I ate too much."
"Jesus! Didn't your mother tell you not to spoil your lunch?"
"N…never mind that. J-just help me to the bathroom, please."
"All right, but try not to eat so much next time."
"Right…"
Jiro walked over and lifted Todoroki up, and he wrapped an arm around her, still groaning. She helped him over to the bathroom as best as she could, though for him, it felt like the bathroom was miles away. Nevertheless, he did his best to not slump to the floor.
"Thanks," said Todoroki. "I…I think I can make it the rest of the way…"
"OK then…"
Todoroki stumbled on into the bathroom, while Jiro returned to her break.
Todoroki spent quite a bit of time on the toilet. By the time he finished his business, he saw Deko outside the bathroom.
"Hello, Deko. Did you and Uraraka stop that auto theft ring?"
Deko smiled and gave a thumbs up. "We sure did! Actually, I wanted to talk with you about something else, too…"
"What's on your mind, then?"
"Well, I was thinking about how Uraraka came up with a nickname for this Hero Agency, so I decided to go one step further and create a logo for us!"
Deko pulled out her notebook and showed Todoroki the logo. It was half an iceberg combined with half a flame, and it had angel wings and a halo. Arched over the logo was the word "SHOTO'S", and arched under it was the word "ANGELS". Todoroki nodded when he saw it.
"This is very good work, Deko. If you can give me a digital version that's been colored, I promise I'll have materials with the logo done as soon as possible."
Deko tilted her head slightly. "What sort of materials?"
"T-shirts, posters, coffee mugs, water bottles…stuff like that."
Deko smiled. "Great! Thank you!"
Todoroki smiled too. "You're welcome. Now if you'll excuse me, I have important work to attend to. Keep up the good work."
"Absolutely!"
Todoroki returned to his office.
After lunch, and after finishing up some paperwork, Todoroki headed to the break room. Here, he saw Hagakure sitting at one table, and judging by the way she was slumped forwards in her chair, he could tell she was feeling down.
"Good afternoon, Hagakure. Is something amiss?"
Hagakure sighed. "Other than the fact that having this Quirk sucks sometimes, not really."
Todoroki closed the door behind him and slowly approached Hagakure. "I'm sorry to hear that. Would you like to discuss this with me?"
"All right."
Todoroki took the chair next to Hagakure. "Go on."
"Now, don't get me wrong, I think this Quirk is really handy, and I usually don't mind being invisible, but sometimes, I just feel so ignored, like nobody would care if I was there or not."
"Why do you feel ignored?"
"I dunno, I guess sometimes, I just want people to notice me. I have feelings too, you know."
"While I may not know exactly how you feel, your desire to be noticed is valid and understandable. On that note, I would like to assure you that your coworkers and I have taken notice of your hard work. Furthermore, I not only appreciate your upbeat attitude, but also the fact that you get along with everyone else. In short, I consider you to be one of my most valued employees."
Hagakure sat up. "Really?"
Todoroki nodded. "Really."
"Oh Todoroki, you're so sweet!"
Hagakure gave Todoroki a big hug, which he gladly returned. Despite her invisibility, he nevertheless found her to be very soft and cuddly, which put a smile on his face. The more he hung out with these women, the more he enjoyed having his own Hero Agency, and consequently, the more positive his outlook on life became. Similarly, Hagakure couldn't have been more elated. While she hadn't been 100% sure about what Todoroki's agency would be like, by now, it had really grown on her. The fact that she found him to be so devilishly handsome was a plus, too. In this moment, peace on Earth had been achieved. Then, while Todoroki and Hagakure were hugging, someone else entered…
"Awww…you two look so cute together!" said Ashido. "Mind if I join in?"
Before Todoroki could answer, Ashido went over to him and hugged him as well. This caused him to blush, because as much as he valued his employees, he still wasn't used to them smothering him with their feminine affection.
"Oh my gosh, I can't believe you're blushing!" said Ashido. "That's so swoony! Maybe we should call you 'Swoonoroki'!"
"Yeah, or how 'bout 'Huggleroki'?" said Hagakure.
"Uh…heh heh…thank you, that will be all for now," said Todoroki.
"Awww, what's the matter?" said Hagakure. "Does the bossman not like being huggled?"
"I enjoy this very much, but I have business to attend to, so if you please…"
Still blushing, Todoroki gently broke away from Ashido and Hagakure and returned to his office, while they giggled behind his back about how he got so hot and bothered when a bunch of cute girls gave him hugs.
Criticism is gold. Negativity and nitpicking are pyrite.
