The cleanup took longer than expected. Surprisingly, the vampires with the gifts were relieved. Most of them took off to their original covens and wanted nothing to do with the Volturi. The ones who stayed were Jane, Alec, Afton and Renata. Caius was furious and had attacked Alec. That was the biggest mistake he could've made because Jane was furious. She had made him submit to her before she ripped him apart and set him alight.
Marcus was reluctant to be the new leader, but Orion could feel determination. He feels like he's going to have to check in from time to time to make sure things are going well. Marcus has been in a depression for so long that Orion is worried. The amount of distress he's in is... bad. Who can blame him though? He's spent centuries think Didyme was his mate, but finds out that she isn't. He's spent so long suffering that finding his true mate might not even help him. Maybe they can create a council that will keep an eye on what is going on. People who actually want to help and who are not corrupted. Orion didn't care too much but he has some empathy now that he's a vampire.
Orion would have to get in touch with their sister coven that Edward had told him about. From what he's heard about them, there are a few that would be perfect for the council.
Orion rubbed at his throat. He has been here for only a few hours but he could already feel the hunger. Trying to shake it off, he turned his attention to Marcus. "We'll do what we can to help you, but you're the new leader. I'll have Edward get in touch with you about getting people on the council."
Marcus nodded. He still looked sad and stoic, but Orion could feel the hope building. Orion went over to Jasper and Emmett. "Are you two ready?"
Jasper nodded. "I think we've been away from our mates long enough."
Orion smiled, but it was strained when he saw how Emmett was looking at him. "Not now Emmett. We can talk about it later. Or tomorrow. I just want to go home and see my son and mate."
Emmett frowned but nodded. Orion was glad he didn't say anything. He bet that Alice was dead and he wanted to keep his distance from some of the Cullens. It really scared him that even being the Master of Death didn't save him. It might've but by then it would have been too late.
They port keyed back to Orion's and found Edward outside waiting. Orion ran straight to Edward and knocked him off his feet. "It's over."
He felt Edward hug him tightly. Orion also felt the relief. That was one issue dealt with and Orion wasn't looking forward to dealing with the next. He had an idea on what to do and he hoped Edward wouldn't disagree with him. "I need to hunt Ed. I want to feed before I see Teddy."
Edward nodded and for the next 30 minutes they hunted in silence. It wasn't an awkward one, it was mostly contemplative. Orion was thinking on how to approach Edward with his idea. He knew how angry his mate was at Esme and demanded that she pay for what she did. It didn't matter to him that he's alive. Well, kinda. All that mattered was that his adoptive mother killed his mate.
Orion was going to wait until the next day to say anything. He wanted to bask in the temporary peace they had with Aro gone. Everything can wait until tomorrow. Or at least as long as he can get away with. After all, it's not like he needs to sleep anymore. He couldn't bring himself to mourn his humanity because he was already immortal. This just gave him extra unwanted abilities.
Orion tried to get rid of those unwanted thoughts. He smiled at Edward's gesture for him to come closer. Their bond was getting stronger and Orion couldn't be happier.
"I love you," Orion said to Edward. He knew he had hearts in his eyes and didn't care.
Edward grabbed Orion's chin and pulled him into a deep kiss. Orion's hands went around his neck and softly moaned. It was overwhelming to feel both of their desire, but it didn't make it any less pleasurable. As the kiss went on, Orion pushed Edward to the ground and straddled his waist. Before they could get too far, Orion's phone rang.
He groaned and sat up in Edward's lap. He looked and saw that it was his dad. "Yes dad?"
"Where are you? Are you okay?" Orion smiled at the worry.
Orion suddenly glared at Edward's innocent smile. He could feel his mate's hands running over his hips, down to his bum.
"I'm okay. I just needed to feed and took Edward with me. No need to worry okay? We're on our way back now."
"Hmm. That better be all you're doing Orion James," His dad teased.
If he was still human, his cheeks would've been burning. But what made him laugh was Edward snatching his hands away from where they were wandering. "Okay dad we're coming back now."
I hung up and collapsed onto Edward laughing. "You know he can't see through the phone Ed."
"I didn't really want to chance it," Edward defended himself. It was cute how he thought wizards can see through phones or know what is happening on the other side. It's not like it was a floo call.
Orion chuckled standing up. He held a hand out for Edward, who tugged him into a quick kiss. "I love you to Orion. Always."
Together they ran back to the house, more than ready to face what comes next. When they arrived, silence greeted them. It was suspicious to Orion as the house was never this quiet. Especially around 10pm. Orion glanced hesitantly at Edward. He could feel the anger coming back to his mate and had to force himself to sigh. It was obviously about Esme as he could know feel the tension inside the house. Well Orion wasn't getting what he wished for. There was no way he could wait until they were alone to deal with this.
"Whatever happens, I want you to promise me you won't do anything. Violence isn't going to solve this and I have an idea, so please listen to me when we go in there," Orion begged.
Edward couldn't read his mate's mind. Orion was only thinking about what might happen and not thinking about what he was going to do. He didn't want to promise him anything. He wanted Esme to be punished for what she did. Right as he was about to disagree, he saw exactly what Orion was thinking. Orion was imagining him killing Esme and the Cullen's retaliated. He saw how devastated and horrified Orion was while he was being torn apart. Edward pulled back quickly and embraced Orion.
"I promise that won't happen. I'll stay by your side no matter what," Edward promised.
Orion nodded in relief. They both braced themselves and walked in. The first thing Orion did was look around for Teddy. He relaxed when he saw that he was next to his dad with a silencing charm around him so he couldn't hear what was about to happen. When he saw Rosalie there, he anxiously went to stand in front of Teddy's bassinet. He wouldn't put it past her to grab him and run. She was too child obsessed and it worried Orion.
"Why are you all here?" Orion demanded. He saw Carlisle in front of a grimacing Esme. Orion was shocked that Esme didn't feel very remorseful. He glanced at Edward and saw him with his hands clenched. That wasn't good.
Carlisle was the one to speak up, like he always did. "We came here to apologize. What happened shouldn't have happened to you. Esme couldn't control what she was doing. I'm sure you especially could understand that."
Orion felt the shock and incredulity from his family. Did he not know that Esme could've stopped herself? That she knew what was happening and didn't attempt to stop? It was obvious to Orion that he was being genuine. He was just short of begging.
Orion winced when he heard Edward snort. "Is that what she told you?"
Carlisle was genuinely confused. "Yes. Is there something that made you think differently?"
"She knew exactly what she was doing Carlisle. She could've stopped herself but didn't because she thinks Orion tore our family apart," Edward snarled. Everyone can tell it was taking everything in Edward to not attack Esme.
Carlisle turned to Esme and knew that it was the truth. It was written all over Esme's face. Before it could escalate, Orion went to talk. "To be very clear, I don't want to be near a lot of you anymore. I didn't come here to feel unsafe like I felt at my old home."
Sirius came over and put his arm around his son. "What are you suggesting?"
"I want to move. We can go anywhere we want with glamours and I don't want to be here anymore,"Orion whispered. He was tired of having to fight for his life over and over. He thought he was safe here, but again, people are trying to kill me.
Edward stepped forward and kissed him softly. "You know I'll follow anywhere."
Sirius stepped towards the Cullen's. "I think it's time you leave. I'm sorry it had to be this way, but Emmett will always be welcome to contact us."
Orion saw Emmett smiling sadly. He wished it wasn't like this. He wished that everything hadn't changed and they could be a family. Maybe he'll feel differently in the future. One thing that was for sure was he never wanted to see Esme again. Even if he wanted to, Edward's vampire side would never allow it.
What about the babies they're carrying? Will I forgive myself if something happened to it? What about Esme, didn't Edward fight her? Orion tried not to worry too much and he knows he shouldn't. He had to get over the possibility that Esme isn't pregnant anymore. Knowing that Edward was listening to his thoughts, he asked the question he's been dreading. "Do you know if she's lost it?"
He nodded twice. Orion understood there and then that Esme had miscarried. It wouldn't have been too noticeable to her and Orion felt a sudden pang of sympathy for her. Edward snarled at his thought ande Orion winced. He didn't really want to be down here anymore. "Can you tell my dad or Severus to explain to her? Or even recommend a healer for Rosalie? I'm going upstairs with Teddy."
Edward nodded and smiled at his mate reassuringly. "I'll be right up."
Orion knew that Edward would whisper it into Severus' mind. He was already setting up wards against the room so that no one would try and attack him. It wasn't safe to be down there, especially with Teddy. The baby started to whine, waking up for a feed. "Shhh Teddy. I'm right here with your bottle."
Teddy's hair changed to his black while eating. Orion had noticed he did that when he was calm. It seemed to be his go to color and was very adorable. Orion was holding Teddy and humming to him as he eats. He really didn't want to hear or feel what was going on downstairs. The despair coming from Esme was a bit too much. The rage coming from her was enough to squash the sympathy. He could hear the yelling coming from her about how it was all his fault. That if he hadn't come then her family wouldn't have been torn apart. Orion wondered about her sanity and was confused on why she was protecting someone who had manipulated her.
His humming got louder when he heard fighting going on. Esme was trying to get up the stairs while Edward was pushing her back. Orion knew that Edward was trying to keep his promise and feared that Esme would go too far. He heard Severus putting her to sleep and instructing Carlisle to take her back to the house. Severus was also instructing Rosalie about her pregnancy and gave her a number. It was apparently a friend of his which had surprised Orion. He didn't think the older man had friends other than the ones inside this house.
Orion let out a sigh of relief when they left. He couldn't wait to get out of here. Maybe they can visit Alaska or would the Cullen's go there? Or they can go to France. He's never been traveling so it would be perfect. Teddy would be able to have those moments and have a different life than he did.
He was brought out of his thought when Edward walked in. Edward was still angry and was trying to not to kill Esme. "I'm glad you weren't down there Ry."
"I know I heard everything,' Orion hesitated but continued, 'Are you okay? I know how much she meant to you."
Orion saw how Edward's shuttered. "I don't understand why she's acting insane. I know she's Carlisle's mate so that can't be the reason why."
To be honest, Orion didn't understand why either. "It could just be that she never got over losing her son. She saw this family as an anchor and a way to replace what she lost. It's truly not anyone's fault. Especially yours Edward. If you feel guilty, I could take it to mean you regret me."
Orion took comfort in Edward's disbelief and horror. The last he wanted was to be a burden to his own mate. "Don't ever say that again Orion. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you and the little family we have. I meant it when I said I'd follow you anywhere."
Edward was a little stunned at Orion's beautiful smile. He still couldn't believe he had gotten lucky. He knew that they would happy together. he couldn't help kissing his mates soft lips. They'll be okay. They have each other and they have their son. Edward laughed softly at the image of their children in Orion's head. He couldn't help but look forward to the future they will share together.
"I love you Orion."
"I love you to. Forever and Always."
