Chapter 25

Sir Cador was making his way through the quiet corridors of the Castle, it was still early with only a few servants moving about. The First Knight had meant to return to the council chamber the previous night, but with all the festivities and his own exhaustion the older knight had turned in just after the King had taken Arthur to his chamber. However, now he was moving swiftly toward the council chambers, wanting to see the contents the fateful scroll held and why Lord Andrew's seal was on it.

His mind was going in many directions, with dozens of possibilities of what it contained, but Cador feared it could create a shift in the King and the Kingdom for many years to come. Guards were not yet posted at the chamber doors, so the Knight slowly opened and closed them before turning, "Sire?" Sir Cador could just make out his friend's features in the faint torchlight. Approaching slowly the Knight could see the weariness of his King's face.

"I believe, if the contents of this letter are to be believed, that our stance on magic is going to have to shift again, the warnings from those years ago are apparently being forgotten." Uther said quietly, his expression reminding Cador of the darker period just after Ygraine's death. "I was so hoping Arthur would not have to be exposed to the harsh reality of what needs to be done when magic is used against a kingdom, against its King." Uther stood, his posture weary as he walked toward his First Knight, handing him the scroll as he moved to leave the room, "But as with last time my family was personally targeted, last time with Ygraine and now…" emotion filled Uther's voice, "this time not only was I a target, but my son as well, I will not have these people coming after Arthur in their warped sense of justice for how they believed they were wronged. It will stop now." The King of Camelot opened the council chamber door. He needed to go to his chamber's and prepare for the day. A day he never wanted to come; he had thought after those two terrible years the lesson would have been learned. He had tried to give magic users a second chance with the clear understanding that if his family or kingdom was ever directly targeted there would be no reprieve, no third chance, they knew of his warnings, of what he was capable of doing and this time around they would finally see the full wrath of the King of Camelot, "Magic will be eliminated from Camelot if it's the last thing I ever do."

The door slammed behind the angered King and in that moment Sir Cador, First Knight to the King of Camelot felt his heart drop, the war was returning to the land, and he knew from experience that no one, not even Prince Arthur will remain unaffected. The war was beginning again…

the War on Magic.
