Day 6: Modern AU
Lights
The soft breeze of the night blows wafting her long hair, letting it flow freely into the air. Sara can't help but watch engrossed how her pink locks get an even more vibrant color as the light of the decorative lights illuminating the botanical garden reflects on them, catching her breath in her throat.
She admires the beauty walking ahead of her, before she sees her turning around to give her a soft smile that makes her heart flutter at the mere sight.
- Aw come on, walk faster or they'll turn off the lights and lock us in here.
Yae teases her, sticking out her tongue at her, and Sara can only smile before she quickens her pace to catch up with her.
- Beautiful, isn't it?
Yae asks her as she gazes astonished at the different color lights, yet all Sara can look at is at her.
No more than you are.
She thinks to herself, biting her tongue to prevent herself from saying it aloud.
- They truly are.
Sara says softly instead, still looking at Yae while the other girl giggles and looks back at her with a happy glint in her eyes than makes Sara's heart skip a beat.
- Thank you for bringing me to watch them – Yae then thanks her, yanking their arms together, and Sara can only smile at her, before she hears her sweet giggling filling the air once again – I guess having been pestering you for the whole week to bring me to watch them has finally bore fruits.
She ends up saying playfully, and Sara can't help but snort, recalling how every single day of the week Yae has been pestering her about going to watch the lights together in different and very imaginative ways.
She started with a simple text on Monday:
"Pretty, aren't they?"
Said text recited, attaching a picture of the botanical garden at night illuminated by hundreds of lights of different colors.
"Take me there on a date? ? I read they're only up until Sunday, so we better hurry up ?"
"We will see. I have to study for finals, give a presentation and I should remember you that I also have to work"
"You're so boring, miss perfect student"
It was everything Yae answered her back, before she stopped talking to her at all for the rest of the day. Sara could only sigh, before focusing back on her studies.
The following morning, Sara found herself being awakened by a couple of knocks on her dorm's door, opening it to find her girlfriend at the other side giving her a cute pout.
- Good morning to you too, Yae.
Sara greeted her quietly as she stepped aside to let her in, seeing Yae now smiling at her as she walked with her hands behind her back as if she was hiding something from her. As if she had read her mind, she brought something to the front to show a cup of her favorite coffee in front of her face.
"Let's go to watch the lights together"
The cup said on it, causing Sara to click her tongue, before looking at her very cute girlfriend giving her the best puppy eyes she could muster while tilting her head adorably.
- Yae…
Sara began to exhale, noticing Yae puffing out her cheeks.
- I had to try just in case – she mumbled as she strolled to the door to leave her girlfriend's dorm.
- Wait, where are you going with my coffee? And my morning kiss? – Sara asked, blinking confused, before seeing Yae leveling her a glare.
- You really thought it was for you? – she answered as she brought the cup to her lips to take a sip and then grimace – I seriously don't know how you can like this. And to think I'd even be giving you a kiss after all…
She mumbled as she kept walking away with the cup in hand and under Sara's confused gaze. The dark purple haired girl could only sigh and close the door to begin getting ready if she didn't want to be late for classes.
Needless to say, Yae ignored her for the rest of the day.
The following morning, Sara woke up with a carefully wrapped bento with a note attached to it waiting for her outside her dorm.
"I prepared you something for lunch, I hope you like it. Good luck in the exam!"
This elicited a smile from Sara, before she took it and left the dorms to go to her exam. When it was time for lunch, Sara couldn't help the embarrassment that quickly took over her as she opened the bento to find an omurice topped with the word "Lights?" and a heart on it.
- Miko sure loves you.
Ei teased her to her further embarrassment all while she giggled, deepening more the blush on her cheeks, before Sara started to eat it, only leaving the "?" on the omurice to take a picture of it and send it to Yae.
Her answer? An instant emoji puffing out its cheeks.
If that wasn't embarrassing enough, Yae had something prepared for her the following day as soon as she got to college and went to her locker to retrieve a book from it.
As soon as Sara opened her locker, several light bulbs fell out of it, causing a loud disturbance to be heard and that gathered her great part of the students' gazes as well as their laughs.
- Yae…
It was the only thing Sara could mutter completely mortified as she crouched to gather all the light bulbs on the floor and put them inside a bag to bury it in the deepest part of her locker, retrieving her book, before she closed her locker with a loud thud and left to her classes.
Yae for her part, only sneezed in her own class, giggling happily while imagining her girlfriend's reaction to her surprise.
That day, it was Sara who ignored Yae for the rest of the day.
As if Yae's whole week of torment wouldn't have been enough, the culmination of it was when in Friday, she dared to "take part" in Sara's presentation.
It was her turn to present, when camouflaged in between the slides of her presentation was a very colorful drawing full of trees and flowers with lights hanging out of them.
"Will you go to watch the lights with me?"
A little message said at the bottom of the drawing, causing the teachers to stifle a laugh while Sara struggled to press the next slide, praying internally that there weren't any more slides like that one, or else her teachers would fail her with no consideration whatsoever.
- I-I apologize! M-my little sister may have draw it and sneak it in there – Sara squealed completely embarrassed, lying in the hope it could help her.
At the end, Sara had to be grateful that her teachers took pity on her, and decided to turn the blind eye upon being one of their best students, passing her narrowly though.
Sara could only sigh in relief as she flopped onto her bed phone in hand ready to scold her girlfriend.
- Yae – she greeted her tersely as soon as the pink haired girl picked up the phone.
- Well, hello there dear. I'm glad to hear your voice again – Yae instead greeted her rather chirpily as if she was laughing at her.
- Cut that out, I almost failed because of you.
- My, my, thinking so much about your lovely girlfriend that you almost fail? I might admit I'm flattered – Yae teased her, hearing Sara snorting in return.
- Don't come at me with that, you know what you did, what you have been doing all this week – Sara scolded Yae who could only giggle amused.
- But admit it was cute, wasn't it?
Sara could only pinch the bridge of her nose exhausted, sighing heavily.
- If I say yes, will you stop tormenting me with more of your creative ways to ask me to go and watch the lights together? – Sara asked tentatively, hearing Yae squealing.
- Maybe... but only if you say yes!
- Only if you promise me to not cause me any troubles tomorrow at work.
- Promise! – Yae quickly answered, eliciting a smile on her girlfriend's face.
- Then it's a yes.
Sara answered, hearing Yae squealing happily at the other side of the phone, and she knew she'd do anything to grant her wishes and see her happy, even having to endure such an embarrassing and troublesome week.
- Then I'll see you there on Sunday after work!
Yae squealed excitedly, talking then about the hour and where to meet, before hanging up.
True to her word, Yae didn't cause her any trouble at work at Saturday.
And that's the hectic week Sara had to endure just to witness the happy glint sparkling on Yae's mesmerizing amethyst eyes as she gazes at the lights, before giving her a wide and tender smile.
Sara can't help but smile back at her, before she interlaces their hands and brings them to her lips to leave a kiss on them.
- I love you – she simply says, seeing a coy blush tinting Yae's cheeks.
- I love you too.
Yae answers as she cups her cheek to pull her into a deep and tender kiss, before they pull away and rest their foreheads together while giggling. The pink haired girl can't help but take her phone out to immortalize such a beautiful moment, kissing Sara again with the botanical garden illuminated by hundreds of different lights in the background.
