Author's Note: Hello, dreamers! So, we're almost done! Only 2 chapters left after this one! This will be about the final battle between Lilith, Dire, and Dio! So, enjoy!

VIII. The Battle

Dire and Lilith were sitting in the Frosterian throne room, ruling alongside each other. They smiled brightly, for the two of them thought nothing bad could happen.

But they were wrong.

Someone started banging on the palace door, trying to break it down.

"Dio's army's here!" Dire said.

Lilith stood up. "ATTENTION, EVERYONE!" She shouted to her subjects. "We are headed for a great battle with the forces of evil. Dio has attacked our kingdom for far too long. We must stand and fight as one!" Lilith lifted her ice fan into the air, and the fighters raised their weapons, too.

Just then, Dio and his army broke down the doors and flooded the throne room. The zombies started attacking the Frosterians, but they fought back. A zombie ran towards Dire, about to attack him, but Lilith defeated it with her Frostfan.

"Thank you, Lilith," Dire said.

"No problem," Lilith replied.

The battle raged on. The beauty of the Ice against the terror of the undead. Snowy was using an ice sword the fairies had crafted for her. She was fiercely obligated to protect her kingdom.

The Frosterians were winning the battle. Dio's army was starting to wane. He knew he was losing, so he started running towards the Chamber of the Crown. What was he planning?

Dire and Lilith noticed what Dio was up to, so they decided to follow him. They quietly followed him towards the room.

Dio arrived in the small room that once housed the Frostgale Crystal.

"Dio, stop right there!" Lilith shouted. She and Dire had their weapons aimed at Dio.

Dio turned around and grinned an evil grin. "You two have fallen right into my trap!" He unleashed a concussive blast of dark energy from his hands. Dire and Lilith were knocked off of their feet.

Dio walked up to Lilith and looked at her crown.

"Thank you for helping me to get them, Frostgale!" He said.

"WHAT?" Dire and Lilith said together.

Frostgale emerged from the crown. "You're welcome, Lord Dio!" She said.

Lilith stood up. "You've been working with Dio this whole TIME?" She asked, infuriated.

"I'm only doing what I've been told to do," Frostgale said, with darkness in her eyes.

"TRAITOR!" Lilith said.

"It's true! She is a traitor, but she's not working for me! Another force is trying to bring you down, too!" Dio said.

"Wait, do you mean that voice we've been hearing?" Dire said.

"Yes! Fate will destroy the two of you, even if I don't! Even if someone else defeats you, I'll have my revenge!" Dio said.

Frostgale's eyes started glowing pink, and Fate's voice started coming out of her mouth. "You will finally learn not to trifle with fate." She outstretched her arm and blasted Dire and Lilith with lightning!

The two of them were knocked out cold for a moment. When they came to, Lilith rounded on Fate/Frostgale. "WHY? Why do we have to die? All we want to do is live our lives in peace and harmony!"

"Because it Fate. It is me. My nature is to set things right." Fate/Frostgale said.

"B-but why? We love each other." Dire pulled Lilith close to him.

"I understand. I don't want to do this, but I have no choice." Fate/Frostgale said.

"But I do have a choice," Lilith said. She took the crown off of her head. She raised it high, preparing to shatter it against the ground.

"Lilith, no!" Dire yelled. "If a non-Frosterian tries to break the crown, they'll die!" He tried to stop her, but she created a wall of ice between the two of them.

Lilith looked at Dire with sad eyes. "I'm sorry." She screamed and brought the crown down as hard as she could. It shattered into a million pieces. Fate had bound herself to Frostgale, so if one died, the other would, also.

Lilith's eyes were glowing blue. Her body was being overloaded with too much power. Dire looked on in horror, helpless to save her. To defeat Fate, Lilith would have to kill Frostgale, since they were one now. But Lilith had a different idea, even if it ruined Dire's chance of escaping his fate.

She was going to free her.

She was going to free Frostgale from the crown Winterbolt had sealed her in. Lilith closed her eyes and focused with all her might. When she opened them, she was in a barren, snowy landscape. Frostgale was in front of her, waiting.

"Lilith, why did you do it? Why did you free me when you knew I was a traitor?" Frostgale asked.

"Because no one deserves to be sealed in a crown for all eternity, watching as the wearer uses your power constantly," Lilith said.

Frostgale's expression softened. "Lilith… Thank you. Now I can be free…" Frostgale said.

"But I wasn't able to save Dire from fate, and I'll die because I broke the crown…" Tears started forming in Lilith's eyes. "He'll be all alone!"

"But he won't be. Do you know the truth about your birth?" Frostgale asked.

"N-no?" Lilith asked, cluelessly.

"When Anankos created you centuries ago, it was in the time of the Angels. Aurora, the one who attempted to destroy the crown and free me the first time, was in close vicinity to Anankos while he was magically creating you. The only reason she wasn't killed by breaking the crown was that she was the angel of war and frost. That's why her name was Aurora. When the icy shock wave was emitted from the crown, a piece of ice collided with you as you were being born." Frostgale explained.

"So, does that mean…?" Lilith asked.

Frostgale nodded. "Yes. It means you're half Frosterian. You will be able to handle the full might of the crown because of that."

"So, Dire won't be alone! And you can come back to the normal world!" Lilith said.

Frostgale's eyes turned sad. "Yes, Dire won't be alone, but I can't come back... My time in this world ended long ago... As soon as time resumes, I will ascend to heaven..."

"N-NO! There has to be another way to save you!" Lilith said.

"I am sorry. This is how things are." Frostgale said. The world around her and Lilith began to dissolve. "Time is resuming. Now I must go" Frostgale faded away.

Lilith was returned to the normal world. Dire was amazed. "L-LILITH? How are you alive?"

Lilith explained what Frostgale told her.

"So, you're a Frosterian!" Dire said. He embraced Lilith.

"Alright, now let's teach this vampire a lesson he'll never forget!" Lilith said, getting into a fighting stance with Dire.

"Tch, I'd like to see you try!" Dio said. He fired an energy blast at the two of them. Lilith easily blocked it with her ice shield. She fired back, and her blast hit Dio.

He was frozen in place. Lilith walked forward, ready to shatter his frozen body. She was about to do it when Fate intervened.

"I will take care of him this time, Lilith. After I do, the two of you will answer me."

"Fate! You're supposed to be on my side!" Dio said, infuriated.

"Fate is on no one's side." Fate shattered the ice. Dio was no more. "Fate turned to Dire and Lilith. "And now to teach you two a lesson...

Author's Note: So that was the 8th chapter! This chapter was the battle with Dio, but in the next chapter, Dire and Lilith will battle Fate herself! The next chapter will be crazier, with more twists. So, stay lucid!
