X. The Rose
One month after Dire's passing...
Lilith was lying in bed, sleeping peacefully. She was dreaming of Dire, and what she'd say to him when they reunite. Suddenly, the Mountains of Beginnings and Endings started to glow. The Author was coming down to directly talk to someone.
"Lilith. Wake up." The Author quietly said, not wanting to startle the sleeping woman.
Lilith mumbled, before opening her eyes. She gasped when she saw the Author. "A-Author? What are you doing here?" She asked, unsure of why a being as powerful as The Author would be visiting her at such a late hour.
"I am here to show you one last glimpse of the future. Tell me, do you want to see Dire again, then come back here?" The Author asked, gently.
Lilith's eyes widened. "R-really? You would let me see him again?"
"Of course. I want to reassure you that all will be well." The Author said. "Lay in bed and close your eyes. You will be transported to this very room, an unspecified number of years in the future."
Lilith did just as the Author told her to do. When she opened her eyes, she saw the same ceiling and felt the same covers, but one thing didn't feel the same.
Her.
Lilith felt sick. really sick.
Maybe I just have the flu... Lilith thought to herself. She stood up from the bed. Wow. She thought. The room looked slightly different. New furniture in place of the old, a thin, sleek tv instead of the smaller one she was used to.
That looks pretty futuristic. What year even is this? Lilith was curious.
She looked around the room for something that could give a date. She picked up the cell phone on the nightstand, which was thinner and lighter than ever. Lilith switched it on, but no date appeared. Thinking it was just the phone, she spotted a calendar on the wall. She walked over and tried to read the date.
It was completely blurry. Clever Author... Lilith thought. The Author wanted her to know what her future held, but not know the date.
Lilith heard a knock at the door. "Come in!" She said.
In walked Cadenza, with a tray of food. "Good morning, Lilith! Here's some breakfast, and a smoothie! I made it myself." There was a certain sadness to her voice, that Lilith wasn't used to hearing.
"Thank you!" Lilith said, accepting the tray.
Cadenza looked at Lilith, before sighing. "I just want you to know, you'll always be my friend!" A tear slipped down her cheek.
Lilith still didn't understand. "Cadenza, what's wrong?"
Cadenza tried her best to compose herself. "Nothing. We're all trying to be strong." She hugged Lilith. "Get some rest. You need it." Cadenza said, before exiting the room and shutting the door behind her.
Lilith sat down to eat her food. She had two sunny-side-up eggs, some bacon, and a strawberry smoothie. Lilith didn't understand why everyone was acting like she was dying, or something.
Wait.
Is it true?
Lilith hadn't looked around the room that much yet, but she understood everything when she saw the cards, get-well messages, and flowers on the table did she understand.
Lilith was dying.
She didn't know how it happened, but she was sick.
But Lilith wasn't sad or scared.
She knew this would happen someday. She had lived her life to the fullest, and now she was going home.
She was going to be with Dire.
Lilith felt like she was fading fast, so she walked over to the small radio and played the first song that came to mind.
The Rose.
A beautiful song Aurora had shown her. She lay in bed and listened to it, feeling more tired by the moment.
After a few minutes, Lilith felt a strange sensation. She rose up out of bed, looked at her hands, and realized they were transparent. A beautiful ray of sunlight was passing through her balcony door. Dire, Frostgale, Frostellia, and all of the other Frosterians emerged from the light. Dire stretched his hand out to Lilith.
"Are you ready to go?" Dire asked.
"I'm ready," Lilith said, taking his hand. The Frosterians carried the two of them up, up, up, to the skies, to their eternity together. Dire and Lilith danced through the clouds and stars, immeasurably happy to be together forever. They decided, however, to leave the world with one last gift. Whenever you see a big, bright star in the sky on a frosty night, that's Lilith, shining down on her friends and family. When you see a thunderbolt on a frosty night, that's Dire, looking after the remaining members of his kingdom and his Sister forever.
So
Dire
And
Lilith

And

THE END
Author's note: Hello, dreamers! It's finally done! That was the last chapter of The Astral Maiden's Love! I went for a bittersweet ending, which is something I normally don't do. After this chapter, I'll have a very short epilogue, followed by a special surprise based on this story! So, I hope everyone has a good night! Stay Lucid! (I wanted the 'The End' text to go diagonal, but I can't figure out how to do it without it going back to the side when I press save.)
