Kim awoke the next morning to Adam rubbing her back and places feather lite kisses all over face. It was one of the best ways to be woken up, in her opinion. "Darling you need to get up. We still have lots to do before company arrives." Kim yawned and rolled over. Adam laughed quiet loudly before attempting again. "Kim you need to get in the shower. It will help those sore muscles. The kids are up and fed. The dog has been out and fed. And the outside was cleaned up. Don't worry the kids didn't see mommy's underwear outside." Kim laughed as she was more awake now and fully listening.
"Okay I'm up. But do I at least get a proper good morning kiss?" Kim asked as she sat up from her bed. Adam didn't answer, he just leaned in grabbing her face in his hand and smashing his lips to hers. To was short but full of fire. He saw her eyes darken but knew they couldn't do anything right now. The kids were awake and the guest would be there in two hours. Kim sauntered naked to the bathroom knowing Adam was watching. She made her hips swing more than necessary. She smirked over her shoulder when she heard Adam groaning.
She showered while Adam was downstairs starting the water for the pasta and the potatoes. They were doing traditional bbq foods. Burgers, chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad, macaroni salad, green salad, chips, veggie tray and fruit. Both the pasta and potatoes were cooling when Kim came downstairs dressed for the day. "Good morning kids! How about you guys get your bathing suits on so when our friends get here you are ready." Kim hugged them both as they ran upstairs. "Hey baby! What can I help with?" Kim asked as she walked into the kitchen. "Can you cut the veggies for the three salads and the veggie tray?" Adam asked as he was working to marinate the chicken.
They both got to work trying to get as much as done as possible in two hours. The kids returned dressed for a pool day. "Kids can you guys get some extra towels for later and put them right outside the pool fence?" Adam asked the kids. They both agreed and ran off to help. "Such great kids!" He says as he works to finish up the salads as Kim was working on the fruit. They were almost done in the kitchen when the door bell rang. "How ever it is is early." Adam stated as he walked towards the door. "Hey guys. Y'all are early." Adam opened the door wider for the Halstead's to enter with a stranger in tow.
"Yeah we figured we could help set up. Also this is a new trainee, Dante Torres. He's training with us so I thought we could all get to know him a bit. Hope that's cool." Jay commented as they walked in, "Yeah it's cool. The more the merrier. Nice to meet you Torres, I'm Adam Ruzek. Welcome to our home." Adam introduces himself before showing them to the kitchen. "Hey guys! Glad you could make it. Oh hi! I'm Kim Burgess. Nice to meet you!" Kim reached out to shake hands. "Hey I'm Dante Torres. I'm training in Intelligence. Jays my FTO." He shook her hand nervous as hell. "Well lovely to meet you. Please make your self at home. Baby can you work on getting the tent and tables set up?" Kim asked sweetly. "Yes darling!" Adam kissed her softly as he walked towards the yard. Jay and Dante followed.
"So did you get cleared to return to work?" Erin asked as she helped Kim the kitchen. "Yeah I did. And Adam got cleared to start working out again too. And Lily got a good check up as well. So it was great day yesterday." Kim spoke as she worked on making burger patties. "Sounds great. I sense a but though." Erin asked hoping to get Kim to open up. "Yeah I opened up more about my childhood to Adam. It was kind of heart breaking but Adam took care of me. We laid under the stars as I talked and he held me tight. It was lovely." Kim gushed. Of course she didn't mention the part of having sex under the stars but Erin didn't need to know that.
"That's great! I'm glad you opened up and I'm glad he was there for you. You both deserve all the happiness in the world. I'm so happy for you both!" Erin hugged her friend. They finished in the kitchen before heading outside with the chips, pretzels, fruit and drinks. The guests continued to arrive over the next hour. Once they were all settled Kim stood to speak. "I just want to thank you all for coming over so we could thank you properly for all you have done to help and support us when I was pregnant, with Lilly's birth and Adams injury. You have all been such an amazing family and we couldn't have done it without you. Also I would like to welcome Dante Torres to our group. Now everyone have fun, enjoy the pool, make yourself at home." Kim closed out her speech.
The group hung out in the pool for a hour before Adam got out to start the grill. "Baby! Are you having fun?" Kim asked as she hugged him. "Of course. I love hanging out with your friends. Just wanted to start the grill. And don't worry I know to cook your burgers away from the others. Can you bring out a pot of water for the corn? I figured we could use the grills burner instead of cooking it inside." Adam explained as worked to get the grill going. "Of course! That's a good plan. We won't forget it then. I will be right back!" Kim kissed Adam before walking off.
"So Adam Mouse said you got cleared to work out again. And that you guys were late for picking up the kids. Wills right, right?" Jay jokes hoping to get a rise out Adam. "What's Will right about? And why is Adam bright red?" Antonio asked getting everyone's attention. "Oh Will just called him out on how Kim and Adam weren't following the 6 week rule. That they can't keep their hands to themselves." Jay informs the group. "And judging by Adam's face, Will was correct!" Antonio laughs as the rest of the group joins in.
"Well when your fiancé look like Kim who could blame me. Especially since she's just as beautiful on the inside. And please try not to say to much in front of my kids. We don't need them asking those questions yet." Adam wasn't ashamed, honestly he was proud to have Kim by his side and he wouldn't apologize for loving up on her all the time. "Yeah Jay you don't want your daughter asking questions do you?" Erin asked making him choke on his own words. "Thought so. But Adam has nothing to be embarrassed by. You are no better Jay!" Erin laughed as Jay turned red.
"You know I don't want to hear any of this. I see Kim as my daughter too so can we please change the topic!" Voight looked sick. Knowing these people were sexually active was one thing talking about was another. Especially with his daughter and son in law. "Yeah Jay you want to keep talking about you private life in front of your father in law?" Kenny chimes in laughing hysterically. By now everyone was dying of laughter. "What did I miss?" Kim asks when she came back outside to a group of friends laughing hysterically. "Just Jay trying to bust us for our private life but it got turned around on him. And he was reminded Voight was here." Adam lost it again. Kim just rolled her eyes. "Children!" She mumbled.
"Mommy What did you and daddy to yesterday?" Kim glared at Jay who looked curious as to how Kim was going to answer. "Well sweet heart mommy got cleared to return to work and daddy got cleared to work out again. But daddy's broken bones aren't healed enough for him to go back to work yet. So we had some lunch and nice long workout then showered and came to get you and your sister from Nadia and Mouse." Kim explained in the easiest way possible. "That's good. You and daddy like working out. Can we eat now?" Jackson asked as the group giggled a little. "Yes baby daddy will start lunch now." Kim saw Jay out of the corner of her eye. He had gotten out of the pool so she walked by and pushed him in.
"Emma sweetie why don't you get out and dry off. We will have lunch soon okay?" Kim calls out as Emma moved closer. Kim saw Jay coming out of the pool full of shock by laughing none the less. "While we wait for lunch how about we play 'get to know the new guy'" Kim suggested as a way to involve him in the group. They spent the entire lunch getting to know Dante. He seemed to be enjoying himself was still reserved. They tried not think about it too much. "Do all the new people get this game played on them?" Dante asked still unsure about the whole thing. "Pretty much. We are a family and our lives depend on each other. We need to know we can trust you and need you to know you can trust us." Kenny replies for the group.
"I didn't get this just because they already knew me from patrol when I moved upstairs and we were all friends already. You also learn a lot about a patrol officer when they undercover as a hooker so no questions were really needed." Kim laughed remembering the first time she had met Nadia. "Nadia saved my life that night. And I've trusted her ever since." Kim hugged Nadia and the whole group nodded along. It was the truth as painful as that night was. "I'm happy that I could save your life. You all have given me a life I never thought I could have." Nadia got up and hugged each member of the team. The each had a hand in her current life.
After lunch the kids were falling asleep at the table. "Come on kids let's you upstairs to take naps. We can swim more after you naps okay?" Neither kids put up much of a fight. Antonio picked Jackson as Kim picked up Emma and took them upstairs. Adam was feeding Lily so he was unable to help with the kids. "Gracie. I think you should take a nap too. Let's go." Erin scooped her up and handed her Jay for a kiss before taking her to the guest room. The rest of the adults continued in small talk before heading back into the pool to play volleyball. Kim, Erin and Antonio all joined when they got back. Voight sat out and played with Lily.
"Dawson! Your phone is ringing!" Voight yells out. Dawson got out of the pool and dries off quickly. "It's Gabby. Excuse me." He steps away from the loud crowd to call her back. When he return only a few moments later he looked stressed. "Sorry but I have to go. Louie's sitter is sick. Gabby and Matt are on shift. I have to go get him." Antonio announced. "Bring him back here once you get him. He can play with the kids, we have plenty of food." Kim states and Adam nodded in agreement. "Really?" Antonio watched them nod. "Well okay. I will be back then. See you soon." Antonio left quickly.
"Let's get back to the game!" Kenny called out. Trying to spike the ball but missed. The team lost it laughing. "Hey Kenny! The district gossip says you have a girlfriend. What's going on?" Erin asks knowing he's been shady and vague lately about his life. "Oh he's blushing! Who is she? Or he?" Kim asked excitedly. "I'm not gay! Not that there is something wrong with it but it's not me. I am seeing someone but I don't know if it's going anywhere." He responded. "Does she know that?" Adam asked getting in on the conversation. "Um yeah. The gossip is part of the problem. As well as she's made some mistakes in judgement and it's not left her in the best light with people." Kenny didn't want to say anything. He was afraid of the judgement.
"Oh come on! You have to tell us now! We won't judge!" Erin was crazy excited now. "Okay alright. It's Sanchez. You know Kim's temporary replacement." Kenny looked down as he spoke. The gasps were heard around the pool. "You mean the women who openly hit on my fiancé right in front of me?" Kim asked shocked and dismayed. "Like I said it was a misjudgment and knows she made a mistake. Hopefully with time you can try to get to know her better. I know it won't happen over night but I do like her. So maybe you could try?" Kenny was hopeful. "You are right it won't happen over night but give me some time and we can revisit it later. But I am happy to hear that she knows she messed up. But I would like to hear that from her one day." Kim was willing to try. She could be the better person. Even if it killed her inside.
The kids got up just as Antonio was coming back with Louie. He was very excited to play with the other kids and to go swimming. "Hey buddy! Are you hungry?" Kim asked as she kneeled down in front of him. He needed shyly. "Okay we will make you some food." Kim was excited to see him. They don't see each other that often so this was special. Adam got out of the pool to grill a fresh burger for Louie and got him some sides. And some water to drink. "Here you go Louie. Can I get you anything else?" Adam asked the small boy. He shook his head no. He sat down and ate quietly. "Sorry guys he's still very shy around new people." Antonio wasn't surprised by his behavior. "It's all good. Once he's with the kids he should warm up." Kim patted his shoulder.
Turns out food was exactly what he needed. Once he had some food he was up and running around with Jackson and Emma while Grace splashed in the pool. The laughing from the kids was infectious. The adults watched thrilled with the progress in such a short time. The kids played until they were hungry again so Adam cooked up the chicken and brought out the green salad for everyone to munch on before the kids crashed out again. The kids were all put to bed and the adults minus Voight played cards against humanity. Voight had decided to go home before things got out of hand.
After several rounds of cards the whole team was sore from laughing so hard and ready to head home. It had been a great day for the whole team and for the family. They helped clean up before heading out for the night. "Well this was a fun night. Let's head to bed! Adam calls out as he headed towards the stairs. They were exhausted. "Yes. Let's go to sleep! I'm beat!" Kim laughed as she walked towards Adam. They slowly walked up the stairs hand in hand. Neither said a word as they walked into kiss the kids good night again.
They got undressed and got into bed. Neither had the energy to do anything other than sleep but they did make sure to snuggle up together before they drifted off. Hours later Kim woke up to feed Lily. She was unsettled so Kim rocked her until they both fell asleep in the rocker. Around 5 Adam woke alone, he reached over to find Kim's side cold. He got up to find Kim, he was concerned slightly. He swore his heart was going burst was he say Kim and Lily sound asleep. Adam picked Lily up and placed her in the crib. Then picked up Kim to bring her back to bed. He knew she would have been stiff in the morning if she stayed there so he made sure she was comfortable in their bed before heading to the bathroom.
When he returned he snuggled up with Kim again before drifting off to sleep again. They both awoke several hours later Kim was confused. She didn't remember coming to bed after feeding Lily. "Good morning." Adam whispered as he kissed her forehead. "Morning. how did I get here? The last thing I remember is rocking with Lily." Kim asked as she snuggled into the crook of his neck. " I found you sound asleep in the rocker with Lily. So I put her to bed and then brought you to bed. I knew you would want to be here." Adam held her closer. "Thank you baby! This was much more comfortable than her rocker. I love being in your arms. I feel so safe here. I love you!" Kim moved to kiss him softly on the lips. "I love you too darling!l
"It's my last day before returning to work. And the kids start school. I'm kind of freaking out about it all." This was a totally normal thing to feel and she knew it but it didn't stop those feelings from bubbling to the surface. "I completely understand. It's completely normal. How about I take your mind off it for a little while?" Adam rolled them over to he was on top of Kim kissing her slowly and passionately. Kim moaned into the kiss her hands going to wrap around his neck holding him closer. Adam pulled away long enough to remove Kim's shirt before reattaching his lips on her neck.
"Adam we have to be quick if we are doing this. The kids will be up soon." Kim whispered as she reached for his boxers to remove them. "Oh I can be quick." Adam reached for a condom and Kim pushed his boxers down as far as she could reach. He removed them the rest of the way. Kim stoked Adam erection a couple of times to help him be more ready, he hissed and removed her hand. As soon as the condom was on he entered her. They moaned out at the feeling of being connected in the most intimate way. Adam threw her leg over his shoulder to hit her harder and deeper. Kim gasped at the movement. She moaned every time he thrusted in hard, hitting her g spot each time. "Baby I'm so close!" Kim moaned out as her finger nails dug into arms. Holding on for dear life. "I got you darling!" Adam groaned.
Adam felt her walls clamp down on him. He thrusted a few more times before she exploded around him. Her climax caused him to climax. He threw his head back when he came. He looked absolutely sinful. And she couldn't get enough of him and that look. He collapsed on her breathing heavily. Their vision was still clouded from the orgasm that still hadn't fully subsided. They stay close to each other till their breathing regulated again. "Thank you baby! That was amazing!" Kim kissed his softly before resting her head on his chest again. "Anytime darling. It's my pleasure." Adam joked slightly. "But seriously it's always amazing with you because you are amazing." He kissed her forehead.
Shortly after they got up to shower and get ready for the day. They spent the day at the park with the kids playing and having a picnic. They wanted the kids to have a fun day before the stress of going to school the next day. She could tell they were nervous. More Emma than Jackson but both still seemed anxious. Hence why Champ was also at the park today. He stayed very close to the kids. He could feel the nerves and he didn't like it. He was pacing a lot and rubbing up against the kids a lot. They weren't sure what he was going to do when the kids actually left for school tomorrow but that was tomorrow's problem. That just wanted to spend a nice day relaxing as a family.
The family had dinner at a nice restaurant that had outside seating so Champ could come along. They chatted about nothing important really but just enjoying time with the kids. Hearing about things they were excited about. They also promised to talk more about school when they got home just in case the kids had a meltdown. Lily having a meltdown would be bad enough but people would over look that since she is so young. An older child having a meltdown is looked st with dirty looks and stares. No one wanted that.
They decided to stop at the toy store on the way home to get a few new games to play. Each kid got to pick two and one of each would be played when the kids got home from their first day of school. They hoped it would give them something to keep them excited throughout the day. They knew it would be difficult but they had to hold out hope that both kids would make lots of new friends and enjoy themselves at school. Both kids were ahead of the learning curve so that helped them out a lot but it was still nerve wracking for the whole family.
After the toy store but kids were bathed and got to pick out their outfits for the next day. Once that was done the family went outside to sit under the stars. They decided this was the new thing to do. When they needed to open up, talking under the stars would take place. They brought Lily out in her swing and the rest sat at chair around a small table. "So guys I want to know how do you feel about starting school tomorrow?" Kim asked while holding their little hands in hers. "I'm scared." Emma was the first to speak. And not for the first time admitted she was scared about school.
"Can you tell us why you are scared?" Adam asked already knowing the answer but encouraged her to vocalize her fears. Something they were told in therapy to do. "What if I'm not smart enough? Or the kids don't like me? Or my teacher is mean?" Emma cried she was so scared. Adam scooped her up, he didn't even wait for Kim. "You are the smartest little girl I have ever met! You taught Jackson his letters and numbers, that makes you not only smart but amazing. And some of the kids might not like you but that's okay because not everyone gets along but you will make friends because you are nice, sweet, smart, brave and friendly. I promise you will make friends. As for your teacher if she's not nice you tell us and we will talk to them and make them be nice to you. We will do everything we can to make you happy and keep you safe." He hugged her the whole time while Kim rubbed her back.
When her tears slowed down Adam pulled back slightly so he could wipe her cheeks dry. He smiled down at her because she looked innocent and pure in this moment and he only hoped she had a good day tomorrow. "Does that make you feel better sweetie?" Kim asked as she rubbed Emma's back. Emma nodded and placed her head on Adams chest again. He just leaned back in his chair and let her lay on him. If this made her feel better than that's what he would do. "Okay so Jackson how are you feeling about school tomorrow?" Kim asked almost nervous for his response after Emmas mini meltdown. "Um I'm kind of excited to meet new friends and learn new things but I'm also worried about being away from you guys all day." Jackson admitted as he looked at his parents.
"Baby it's just like being with Aunt Nadia all day. You will play, learn things, eat, take a nap and then come home. And if you get sick they will call us and we pick you up. The on,y thing that's changing is where you are and who you are with. You make friends everywhere we go I'm sure this will be no different." Kim tried to explain in a way he would understand. He nodded his head like he understood so they left it at that. Kim picked him up and laid him in her chest. They all stayed like that till the kids were asleep. Even then they didn't move, they just wanted to enjoy the last few moments of the kids not being in school. Peaceful, happy, asleep kids. It seemed t9 help calm their own nerves.
Kim's arms grew tired so she took Jackson to bed before Adam took Emma up. Kim fed Lily while Adam said good night to the kids. He returned to the living room to find the lights off and Kim was gone. He moved back upstairs to find Lily in her crib and Kim in the bathroom getting ready for bed. "I figured I should go to bed early since tomorrow's the big day. Knowing you will be home makes it easier though. Just in case the kids lose it and want to come home. And knowing you have Lily makes it easier too. I'm not ready for her to be in daycare. I would do it if we had to but I appreciate that we don't. Not yet at least." Kim spoke as she washed her face and brushed her hair.
Adam nodded and moved to get changed. She could tell he was thinking hard about something. "What's on your mind baby?" Kim asked him. Keeping things in didn't help anyone. "Just being injured sucks. I want to be playing baseball right now but I'm also happy to be ab,e to spend more time with you and the kids. I'm torn over it. I know we made the right call with the surgery and thank god we did but my seasons over. All because some douche has anger issues. I'm frustrated about it. I wish I just knew why? Why me? Why my chest? I'm sure that sounds dumb but I want answers." Adam sat on the bed while looking at his hands.
"Baby it's not dumb at all. It's all the questions we all have after trauma. You need answers so you can have closure. But truth is you may never get those answers. And only you can give you closure. Maybe take some time to talk to someone, like therapy, to work through your feelings. That way in the end you still did the work to get through it answers or not." Kim knelt down in front of him as she spoke. Forcing him to look in her eyes. He saw nothing but love and compassion. Because she had been there before many of times on the job and in her personal life. "Yeah maybe. I will think about it." Adam leaned forward to kiss her forehead before leaning back to help her up.
"Come on let's get some sleep. You have a big day ahead of you. Well we all do." Adam lifted the covers for her to get in and waited for her to settle in before he wrapped her in his arms. He made sure she was comfortable but held her tight. He was the anchor holding her down from spinning out right now. "Good night darling. I love you so much!" "Good night my love. I love yo7 more than you will ever know." He kissed the back of her head as he drifted off to sleep. Kim wasn't far behind him. They only hoped to have a restful night sleep before the craziness of tomorrow began.
