"I don't know what you were thinking with this decor. Why didn't you ask me? I would've-" The woman in his apartment came to an abrupt stop, looking up at him in shock. Adrien looked back at her, too stunned by her presence to think clearly.
"You're not Plagg." He spoke as he let the duffel bag he'd been carrying fall to his feet. Was that all he could think of to say? This random, beautiful, woman had broken into his apartment and all he could think about was his cat? What was wrong with him?
"Shit! Get out of here!" The woman nearly killed him with his own cookie jar and then took off for the bedroom, locking herself inside and proceeding to scream at him. After minutes of arguing back and forth the girl seemed to realize that she was, in fact, in his apartment and she swung the door open, looking completely embarrassed. Learning she was Alya's friend..it wasn't as much of a surprise as it should have been. All of Alya's friends were funny. At least the ones he knew.
"No harm done?" He questioned, holding out his hand for her to shake.
"Besides your cookie jar." The woman visibly cringed as she took his hand. "I'm Marinette."
After introducing himself, revealing his tragic backstory and cleaning up the broken cookie jar, Adrien offered her a drink. She placed herself at his kitchen table and put her head down into her hands as he rooted around in the fridge. He slid her a drink across the table and she grabbed it with a groan.
"I really am so sorry. I feel like I've made an awful impression."
"It was pretty memorable at the least." Adrien teased, delighted when a small smile graced her features. "Though I do have to ask, what's wrong with my decor?"
"Are you kidding me?" Marinette half spat-half choked as she struggled to swallow what she'd been drinking. "It's- there's so many cats!"
"Cats are my favorite animal." Adrien shrugged, motioning vaguely at Plagg who was curled up in his cat tree.
"But they're so…not..great." Marinette looked at Plagg, a mix of disgust and fear in her eyes. "They're mean and they get into everything and they're completely untrainable."
"I'm offended." Adrien mockingly gasped, a hand covering his heart. "Cats are the greatest creatures in the universe. And my apartment is purr-fect, thank you very much."
"If you say so." Marinette took a sip of her drink, glancing at Plagg out of the corner of her eye. "He won't scratch me, will he?"
"Not unprovoked. Cats aren't mean. At least, not all of them. They're like people."
"I find that hard to believe."
"Well now I'm obligated to change your mind." Adrien grinned. "You'll have to break into my apartment more often."
"You-" Marinette stopped suddenly, eyes drifting to her phone as it began to ring. She snatched it off the table and held it to her ear. "Alya? Yeah. I'm fine. I'm..next door..yes, with Adrien. It's a long story."
The sudden knocking on his door pulled Adrien out of his seat and he rolled his eyes playfully as Alya stormed into the apartment, looking at her best friend like she was seeing a newly discovered mythical creature.
"What's going on between you two?" Alya questioned with wide eyes as Marinette stood and grabbed her purse.
"Nothing you need to know." Marinette pushed Alya away by the nose and turned to Adrien with a small smile. "Thank you for being so chill about the uh..incident."
"No problem. I love when random women break into my apartment and lock themselves in my bedroom." Adrien winked as Marinette gasped, almost immediately being dragged out of the apartment by Alya. As the door slammed shut behind them, Adrien sighed and dramatically collapsed on his couch, looking up at Plagg with a soft smile.
"Meow."
"Yeah yeah. I know. Just me and you again, Plagg. Just the way you like it."
