Since they escaped the game, Kazuto (as well as the rest of the group) had been assigned a lawyer. Kazuto supposed that this was likely in case any families of those who had been killed in the game came after the survivor(s) involved in any sort of criminal or civil case. There were some other perks that came with it, Kazuto found out.
"Though it has been a few years since the end of that death game, my client has PTSD and in situations of high stress very well may be possessed to make rash decisions!"
Kazuto had long since dissociated from the conversation going on in that courtroom. He had already given his testimony, so there was nothing more he really had to do. He did know the general rundown of how things would go. His lawyer would be trying to convince them that the situation was unavoidable, his psychiatrist would go up and give a testimony of the reliability of the claim that he should be absolved of the crime, and the prosecution would argue that since it's been a while since it all happened he should be held responsible for it.
Kazuto didn't know, however, what the outcome of the case would be. He didn't see himself being entirely absolved of the crime, but he had a good feeling that he wouldn't see jail-time. The pounding of a gavel brought him out of his thoughts, a decision had been made but he was too spaced out to hear it.
As everyone filed out of the courtroom he turned to the lawyer, "Uzaki-san, how did it go?"
"Eh? You were sitting right there, what do you mean how did it go?" Uzaki replied. Kazuto just gave a cheeky smile and scratched his head in response. "They demanded you pay a fine of 200,000 Yen, so all things considered you got out alright."
Kazuto felt nauseated. Two hundred thousand Yen. He'd have to work at the bar for Agil for many months in order to make that much. "Ah, well, that's not so bad.." he muttered. It was sunny today, a great day to spend outside. He wandered over to a nearby tree and laid in the grass beneath its branches, letting the sun warm his body to melt his cares away.
Asuna rolled her eyes with a smirk on her face. "How did I know I'd find you here as I pulled up to the building." She said, nudging Kazuto's side with her boot.
"Because it's a good day to relax." He replied, moving away from Asuna's foot in a passive resistance. She had to hold back a laugh as she got down on the ground next to him. It wasn't quite as comfortable as in the game, she noted, but that was easily drowned out by his presence.
Asuna knew she wouldn't fall asleep like this, but it was likely that Kazuto had already fallen back asleep. Glancing over at him, his slow breathing and slumped shoulders made it obvious to her that he had indeed slipped into unconsciousness. Asuna was content to just lay there next to him, looking up at the clouds and enjoying the peace he seemed to bring.
I don't wanna hear about how "that's not how court works in Japan" bro, I am from the US and culturally dumb, please just accept things as they are...
