2. My First Meeting With Another Psychic

A few long moments later, I heard Dr. Fuji quietly say "Contact Giovanni. Tell him we need Sabrina."

What? I opened my right eye in time to see Dr. Fuji turn away from the monitor and make his way back to Amber's tube.

'But I thought Sabrina was only a Team Rocket member in the Pokemon Special manga.' I thought in confusion. Apparently I was wrong. Still, if she could figure out how to keep the other four clones around without having to keep them wrapped up in my power, I would welcome the help. I just had to keep them around until she arrived. Closing my eye again, I put my full focus on doing just that. It was all that I could do, that and wait.

Story Start

Okay, there was something else I could do as I waited. Ten minutes after I had started shielding the four, I managed to work out how to, for lack of a better word, put the four shields on autopilot in regards to staying in place. When I was sure that they wouldn't be slipping away without my continued input (though using my power still gave me a raging headache) I turned my focus inwards and worked on entering my mindscape so that way I could try to hide another life's worth of memories.

Thankfully, I had said lifetime's worth of media memories to fall back on, a good chunk of it dealing with mental powers. I managed to reach my mindscape and proceeded to immediately turn it from the massive library it originally was into a circular lake in the middle of a forest, a small island with a singular tree in the middle. I then put everything before I woke up into this world (and a little bit of my time here) into a large external hard drive, stuck that in a box, then shrunk it down like someone had used Pym Particles on it until it was the size of a grain of sand. I then buried that grain not on the island but on the lake shore, going down ten feet before I felt it was deep enough. Hopefully, that would be enough to hide from Sabrina. Before I left, I made a summoning method that I thought would be highly unlikely for someone in this universe to figure out: playing Hero A from the My Hero Academia soundtrack.

With that done, I exited my mindscape back to the darkness I had become aware in in this world and said "Cortana, Time Check please."

*It has been twenty two minutes and thirteen seconds since you started shielding the others. Sabrina is expected within the next fifteen minutes. She was evidently in a Gym Battle when Giovanni contacted her Gym.* Cortana stated before helpfully adding the bit about when my 'reinforcements' will arrive.

I nodded and disengaged the 'autopilot' on my shielding technique, letting out a hiss as my headache spiked for a moment before settling back down to the dull roar it had previously been. I didn't want to seem too knowledgeable about my Psychic powers when she got here after all.

(Outside, there was a spike of fear from the scientists to match the spike in my brainwaves but they went back to anxious waiting when nothing else seemed to happen.)

It felt like a lot longer than fifteen minutes but eventually Cortana stated *Sabrina has arrived.*

A view screen appeared in front of me and I couldn't help but frown at the sight of the white uniform with a red R on the chest. There went my hopes that Sabrina had been a 'consultant' rather than a full member. I watched her talk with Fuji and the rest of the scientists, eyes on the computer stations showing our brainwaves. Deciding to get the first word in the upcoming conversation we'd no doubt be having, I reached out with my mind and found the wall of Sabrina's. Then before she could properly react to my mental touch, I did the mental equivalent of picking up a large hammer and hit it against her barrier, not to break, but to make it ring like a gong.

Sabrina twitched (which was very satisfying to see) and turned towards the test tubes with narrowed eyes. When she opened a small pathway through the barrier around her mind I sent 'If we can hurry this up, my head feels like I spent a night at a frat party and I've never drank a day in my life.'

I hadn't bothered to keep my statement to Sabrina and the scientists looked at each other in surprise as one asked "How could he possibly know about frat parties?"

One of the other scientists looked a bit shifty eyed which of course the others noticed.

Dr. Fuji actually managed to look amused as he said "Well, I think that answers that. I had been wondering where Mewtwo's vocabulary had come from."

"You mean he's been reading our minds this whole time?!" One of the more junior scientists balked.

"It was likely subconsciously on his part. If he only recently became aware then he wouldn't have had time to go over all of your memories subtly enough to hide it from you all." Sabrina stated cooly.

'Theorize later, help now please.' I sent.

Sabrina nodded and her eyes glowed blue. A moment later, there was a second Sabrina in the darkness with us. Sabrina took in Amber and the other three clones surrounded by my power for a moment before she looked towards me and Cortana. A single blink was all that gave away her surprise and she stated cooly "I had not been infromed that there was a Porygon as part of the Project."

*I am here so I ensure the Cyber Security of this project.* Cortana stated in a blank tone of voice.

Sabrina's eyes narrowed a little and she said "I see, and how did you manage to access this mental plane?"

Cortana brought up a diagram of the sensors attached to my physical body and stated *I am using the sensor nodes currently reading his brainwaves to be present here.* (That was complete codswallop, but a believable cover for her chip in my head nonetheless)

Sabrina cocked her head with a small hum and said "Interesting. Am I right in assuming that the scientists are unaware they have someone looking over their shoulders?"

*That is correct, please do not enlighten them.* Cortana stated.

Sabrina hummed at that before she turned to me and stated "If I am to help, I need to know what happened and how you reacted."

When I finished, Sabrina studied the four and mused "So they started breaking apart at the same time, but Amber has been around much longer meanining it wasn't a degradation that happened at the same rate." Her eyes then flicked towards mine and she mused "There is the possibility that their minds simply couldn't handle interacting with a powerful psychic for so long. A good analogy would be a giant poking a normal human and accidentally breaking their ribs even though the giant was trying to be gentle."

I let out a wince and asked "If that's the case, how do I learn to control my strength without being able to practice?"

"There are ways to set self made limiters on your abilities. I shall instruct you on their creation and use once I have placed proper shields around these four to enable continued contact without risk of this happening again." Sabrina stated.

Once Sabrina had properly shielded Amber and the Starters, she 'guided' me in how to reach my mindscape. Once we were on the shore of the forest lake, she stated "As I'm sure you've come to realize given how you struck my mental shields in a manner to gain my attention rather than to breach them, when doing work of the mind, intent, rather than technique is key."

She walked me through how to install the limiters and I wound up with a computer touch screen installed into the trunk of the tree on the island where I had first made them and could now access them. She then gave me advice on how to build my own mental barriers.

When we came back into the communal mind scape, Sabrina studied me for a while before seemingly nodding to herself then abruptly left. I blinked at her sudden departure only to hear her speaking to the scientists.

"The problem has been fixed. The infantile minds of the clones were not strong enough to withstand being exposed to the strength of Mewtwo's unrestrained psychic presence and were breaking under the continued strain. I have both erected selective shields to protect them from it while still allowing communication and helped Mewtwo install limiters in its own mind. Since he has contacted you all as well previously, I recommend allowing me to perform a quick scan of your own minds to ensure no hidden damage occurred."

I watched the scientists give each other nervous looks before Fuji firmed up and said "If you believe that is necessary."

Sabrina nodded then looked towards the tubes as she said in a tone that booked no argument "I shall also return once a week to begin Mewtwo's instruction in the Psychic Arts. Having one with its power not knowing how to use it would be…concerning."

Well, that wasn't ominous at all. Still, as Sabrina's eyes lit up again and she began scanning the scientists, I couldn't help but think there might be opportunity there…
