Author's note this chapter will have a reference to the Dragon Ball Z Dead Zone in the chapter. And it will be two years before Raditz showed up in the anime.
Well the situation in their home was easy to settle and things became organized rather quickly, Genos and his sister would live in the apartment right next to Saitama, who for obvious reason had the biggest apartment, and the daily routine of training and exterminating dangerous monsters became the norm.
They did discuss the fact that monsters who respected the sanctity of life of others would be welcomed to live near them, and Saitama and his apprentices would both help them and would keep an eye on them should they revert back to becoming harmful.
It was both a means of policing and would help the reformed monsters to see that they didn't actually need to kill humans or commit crimes to be able to have a decent life. The fact that the city was mostly abandoned and the apartment building where they lived was rather big means that it was possible to reform many monsters soon.
Saitama asked Genos to use his sensors and connect to nearby satellites to see if there were any powerful people they could recruit into the Hero Association, people who would help the world but had no clue of the existence of the Hero Association, much like Saitama had been.
Genos and Genoa found that in a section of the world there were a lot of powerful individuals and Genos using a pencil began to draw images of the people he saw through the orbital satellites, and sure enough, he was shocked and amazed by the Z fighters were there, but they were just independent fighters at the moment, so they needed to go and meet with them to be able to recruit these individuals knowing the benefits they would receive this shouldn't be that hard.
"So Genos you and I will go and meet with these fighters, while your sister and mine keep everything safe here on the homefront, we can't leave the city unguarded should another major monster decide that us being missing was the perfect chance to destroy a city or two."
Genos told him that at the moment they had at least a week to do so, but they would have to return eventually to keep doing missions assigned by the Association if they wanted to keep their membership to it active. In other words, the Hero Association didn't like dead wood or dead weights, they wanted active heroes, and those that thought they could milk the hero status soon found how wrong they were.
This would keep heroes doing more than just hunting monsters, or trying to get through with easy things, heroes would need to be active which means they need to do more for the people than they thought would be asked. Essentially heroes became another law enforcement of the world, and since they are so many people with such a vast difference in power, they could help in many ways that ordinary people could only imagine.
The ruler of the unified world had set into law that just because a person had the appearance or abilities of a monster didn't make that person automatically the enemy of the world, in fact, he insisted that heroes fight to stop and capture criminals, not to kill for superficial reasons.
It was easy to see, the king was half animal himself, and he knew the fears of many people who would later be labeled monsters by the ignorant masses, in fact, there were vast abandoned cities where citizens refused to listen to reason and left the cities simply because monsters lived in them.
Saitama and his friends live in one of such cities themselves, and the King knew this very well, the King had been one of the people that pushed and supported the creation of the Hero Association when the founder of it learned that a person stood up against a criminal that used his half crab nature to eliminate all those that he wanted, and one of those would have been his own grandson.
Laws, regulations, and codes of conduct were created for the people that would become professional heroes, and one of the things that helped them was a vast network that would allow easy transit between cities, a team of heroes could be deployed within minutes of a city sending a signal requesting aid, and the team size would depend on the danger level.
It was thanks to this transit system that Genos and Saitama would be able to go to meet the people they wanted to recruit if they bothered to use it at all, instead, Saitama told Genos that this was a wonderful opportunity to train, so instead, they would run towards each of the locations and see how fast they could get there.
With the upgrades that Genos obtained from the doctor using the Chakra conductive metal, Genos had more than enough speed to follow Saitama wherever he ran, and given their speed there was nothing that would stand in their way, in fact, many people who saw them while riding on one of the intercontinental high-speed trains, they were shocked that two men were, in fact, running crossing oceans and lakes like they were nothing.
The first stop had been to a small island in the middle of the ocean, it appears that a man that lived there loved his privacy a little too much since it was practically impossible to find him unless you knew who he was, and both Saitama and Genos knew who he was thanks to their memories and the pictures, it was the Master of the Turtle House, Master Muten Roshi.
Why did they go there? Simple many of the people that they wanted to meet apparently were there for some celebration or gathering so it was the perfect opportunity to try and recruit as many of the people present as possible, Saitama was giddy and laughing wondering if these people would be like the Z-Fighters that he once remembered seeing on the tv.
It seems to be a child's birthday party so Genos decided to buy the kid a plushie of a monkey, that sort of reminded him of the great ape form Goku once took when he saw the full moon, and Saitama using his gamer powers did something truly mean and sneaky, at least that is what his mother would say if asked, he got him a copy of the book that he would one day write.
Saitama throwing caution to the wind just to see what the hell would happen, decided to buy a book from the game shop that would not be published till decades later, and decided to give the book to the very same person who was supposed to write the book in the first place.
Genos spent one hundred zenny to buy his present but because Saitama used the game store, he used money he got from playing around in the dungeon, and thus it didn't cost him a single zenny, and what is worse Genos has the strange feeling that the kid will like the book more than the plushy.
They both walked towards the house and knocked at the door, much to the surprise of all the people inside, as Master Roshi came out and asked who they were and why did they come to his home. Genos simply looked at the man and tried to be as respectful as possible. "Master Roshi, we wanted to come to help you and your fellow fighters here by trying to provide you with some information and ways to improve your lives, but since we saw that this was a birthday party, my master and I decided to buy the birthday boy a couple of presents."
Genos handed Gohan the plushie and Saitama gave him the book, and sure enough, the kid was more interested in the book than the cute adorable little plushie, Genos did his best to remain as sociable as possible till the kid actually read the name of the person who wrote the book, and asked his father if his grandfather ever wrote a book, to which Goku told him no, Grandpa Gohan never actually wrote any books.
That was the cue for Saitama to look at the kid and smile, "I have this neat little ability to form dungeons and makes my life sort of like a game, and one of those things is the ability to buy anything that has ever been or will be created in any universe, so that book was not written by your grandpa, that book is a book you will write, but if you read it you will find that you need both the knowledge of a scholar and that of a martial artist to be able to write it. You are capable and thus that is why the book exists in the first place, but if you don't study and train in martial arts that book will disappear."
Genos didn't like where this was going, so he decided to talk with Master Roshi and a few other people to redirect the conversation away from the potential time paradox that Saitama was clearly wanting to cause if for anything else other than shits and giggles.
"So you two came here wanted to speak with us, mind telling me what that was about?" Genos looked at Roshi and Tien as they both pretty much asked the same thing, he told them that in a day or two they will face something from a place called the dead zone, an evil person by the name of Garlic Junior will invade and take some people hostage, but only succeed with Gohan.
So they felt that they should warn them of the impending danger, and tell them to train like never before, which is why Saitama gave that book to Gohan since Roshi should know how important KI training is. That is when Gohan's mother was angry after hearing Saitama talk to her son about spending time away from studying and instead wasting time learning martial arts.
Chichi as she introduced herself told him that Gohan had no need to train at all, since he is going to be a scholar, and he would not need to fight at all. "Lady, I get it, you want to keep your kid away from any situation that could get him hurt or worse killed, I am a cyborg, the only thing that remains of my original body is my brain, I know, but I know some situations can't be avoided, and I hate to say this but from the scans, I got from your kid, that child is going to have some serious anger management issues. As Saitama said, we can enter into dimensions that are ahead into the future, so we know what we are talking about."
Chichi apparently took offense to this as she stepped closer to him and tried to intimidate him, "My son will grow up to be a scholar, have a decent job, and not be a battle junky like his father. I love my husband but I want my son to have a better life."
Genos looked at her, "If he doesn't learn martial arts, your son will become a monster, that could doom this entire planet, that is what his people are known to do, the Saiyans, we know about them. Knowledge from the future remember? Another thing that we came to tell you about is something this group clearly has not heard of, the Hero Association, it is an organization founded to help Heroes and provide them a good salary, medical care, and even a chance for higher studies in a form of a scholarship, the king of the world told us that we needed to come and meet with you and your friends."
Roshi's eyes begin to shine in a way that worried Genos, as the old man said that if they join this Hero Association they get paid for doing heroics and even get healed if injured, what is there not to like, but he did ask what exactly did they have to do to join? Genos seeing that Roshi understood everything told him that only a small written exam and a series of physical tests to see how strong they are assigned to deal with situations they can handle.
This actually assigns heroes to deal with situations they can handle and thus lower the chances of a person getting killed, even with dragon balls, there are limits on the way people can be resurrected, the mention of the dragon balls made them realize that Genos was not kidding he did know things that most people were oblivious to. "I still don't trust you, for all I know this is a twisted sales pitch for a shady group that wants to take advantage of my husband and his friends.
Genos told her that the city that was near her home had accepted the protection of the Hero Association, meaning if something happens neither he nor Saitama will be able to come and assist them, even if they wanted to they would need to be informed by the Hero Association of the location where the incident was happening and that would not happen, they may have knowledge from the future but as such things can change and location information is not the most reliable.
"Chi-Chi you can mistrust us all you want, but you can trust that we have come to tell you there is a way for your husband and his friends to obtain a gainful salary and other benefits for doing exactly what they are currently doing for free, and yes, I also mentioned the scholarship program since you said you wanted your son to be a scholar. Neither I nor Saitama has come with any other intent other than to help you."
"You can trust me Chi-Chi a scientist who saved me and my sister when we were about to be killed, the truth had it not been for the doctor neither she nor I would still be alive, even if we had to become cyborgs. We had a pretty normal life, this body processes food and fluids like any normal body, and gives my brain all the nutrients it needs to sustain itself. But in all honesty, had we been born with the potential and this chance like your son has we might still have our original bodies, but we never had that. So trust me, I know about a mother wanting to keep her child safe, our died trying to shield us with her own body, but it is also important that he learns to defend himself and control his negative emotions before those emotions take control of him."
Chi-Chi became quiet for a second and asked Genos how did he know about being taken over by negative feelings? Genos told her that during the first three months of him being a cyborg he had nothing on his mind other than revenge, searching for the thing that kill his parents and getting revenge, had it not been for the doctor and him teaching him to control his emotions, he would have destroyed anything and anyone that got in his way to getting revenge, so he knows the dangers of letting negative emotions control a person's life, rage can cause people to do foolish things, even blind them to the truth of their situation, is that what she wants for her son?
Chi-Chi had to admit that she didn't want that to happen to her son, but she is just worried about his future, and Genos told her that if he joined the Hero Association, with his potential he could have a very good life but also a great help if he chose to become a scientist, doctor or engineer.
That is when a young woman walked near them and she began to look at Genos up and down as if she was studying him. " So it is true, as I heard it I could hardly believe it, a full-body cyborg. I would love to take you back to Capsule Corp and see how your body was constructed, but that would more than likely kill you and I wouldn't want to do that."
Genos told her that he could in fact give her a way to contact the doctor that saved him and his sister, he might be able to tell her how their bodies had been constructed, and even how the operation was done, in fact, he doctor told Genos to share with a young woman named Bulma Briefs any information he could.
She was happy to hear that and told Genos that she was indeed Bulma Briefs, and asked what kind of information was he going to share with her, he quickly handed her a small data stick that held the information in question, blueprints, and designs for the armor that she would one day design including the most advanced version of the gravity chamber and scouter.
She took out her little laptop and plugged in the data stick and was speechless with the number of designs and data that was on such a small drive. The fact is that the doctor also left notes with suggestions such as making some of the armor beneficial for heroes, police, and other emergency responders. She honestly felt like she just got her birthday present early.
With all that resolved and having given them the information they needed, Saitama mentioned that they couldn't help them when the disaster that was supposed to happen occurred, but thanks to the data in the flash drive Genos provided they could at the very least have decent armor. Even as Chi-chi told him they wouldn't need help from him and called him a snake oil salesman, which made Genos mention a rather bad salesman since he provided most of the things free of charge, which made Saitama glare at Genos which lightened the mood of everyone around him as they realized this was just something done as a joke.
They were about to leave when Master Roshi became rather serious and asked them why don't both train under him, it had done wonders for most of the people present, to which Saitama told him he would consider it, but as of yet nobody trusted what he said was true or at least most people didn't so there was no point.
"These people need training, and so do we if I am being honest, but no need to stifle their training by having to do so with people they don't even trust near them. After the next incident, I believe we will have proven how trustworthy we are, at that point I happen to know of the perfect place for training. Getting there however is not easy by any means so training to be able to get there is pretty much a necessity, and being able to reach it is practically the admittance price so that is not something we can change, Kami knows I would if I could."
That is when Bulma asked both Genos and Saitama how in the world did they make it to turtle island, since she didn't see any vehicles nearby, she even asked if they had a capsule corp plane capsule. To which Saitama laughed and told her they didn't use any vehicle to get there, they simply ran. Some of the men began to laugh as they said they had to be joking running across an ocean like they were running on dirt.
Genos was quite serious when he told them if they didn't believe they could watch them leave, that should prove that everything they said was true. "We need to really hurry this time Genos, I don't want to miss out on the sale discounts in our favorite grocery store." To which Genos told him they should make it in less than an hour.
Genos felt Bulma pat him on the shoulder and she looked like she was simply wishing him good luck, but Genos knew better, she planted a tracker on him, apparently, she wanted to both know where they lived and track their speed, but no matter, it would do them no good, they live in the abandoned City Z, something that had been taken over by monsters, only a fool would dare to attempt to enter it without the strength to defeat those monsters.
Genos and Saitama got into a running position and took off, running on the ocean surface leaving waves as their speed caused the ocean to splash those that saw them take off, till Bulma took out her tracker device and was shocked to see the speed of these two men were running at, they will definitely reach the continent in less than half an hour she then wondered why did he say that it would take that much time when he spoke.
The Z Fighters couldn't say a word, they just saw two people run at high speed on the ocean as if it was just a warm-up, if anything, they felt like they had been proven that they were not as strong as they once believed themselves to be, and as such they took this as a challenge to prove themselves and thus they will increase their training to show these two strangers they were just as strong as they were, which was the entire purpose of doing this in the first place, to literally and figuratively relit their desires to become stronger.
It didn't take them that long to get to the grocery store and in fact, they managed to make some great savings thanks to the fact they managed to get to the sale on time. Saitama was practically singing, Genos not so much, most of the food he actually likes was not on sale that day, so he had to do without. He didn't even manage to eat anything at the party and had run from one side of the continent to practically the other made him quite hungry, which was surprising to him because he never felt like this before.
Genos simply decided to think about it as they didn't have enough food for them anyways, so might as well help his master carry the large bags of groceries back to his apartment, while he decided to place his groceries in his inventory using his gamer powers. This was much more convenient for him, but he thought that maybe his master wanted to attract the attention of harmful monsters nearby for some exercise to build an appetite, not that Genos needed that.
Five days later Genos was walking with master Saitama as he preferred to call him and they were both taking care of some particularly nasty monsters who no matter how many times Saitama asked them to stop attacking humans the ones that could speak mocked him, and those that couldn't be little more than animals. It was not what either would call a very challenging fight, Genos using his body and his fire abilities burned them by the dozens, you would think these monsters would learn and stop trying to kill them, but that never happened, it was always the monsters who attacked first.
It seems Saitama defeating the monsters from the previous day caused quite a few of their friends to want to take revenge on them, even ignoring the many tries by Saitama that they only killed those monsters in self-defense. That is until they saw the monster they had been looking for, but instead, it was two male and female versions of it, sadly enough to Genos one of them sort of looked like the person who was at that birthday party they went to the other day.
Saitama immediately saw the male monster and ran up to him, only instead of blocking a punch he grabbed his hand and began to shake it, "Piccolo, fancy meeting you out here, but what happened to your antennas, but I got to say I am loving this new color for your skin, come to think of it, why are you naked and who is that with you? We didn't meet her at Gohan's birthday party as we met you."
Well, it seems that was the wrong thing to say he went ballistic when he heard, "I am not Piccolo, my name is Vaccine Man and that is Vaccine Woman, we were created by mother earth to eliminate the virus that is polluting and poisoning her body, humans. And who the hell are you supposed to be and why are you looking at her like that? You pervert."
Saitama simply looked at the supposed Vaccine Woman and sort of reminded him of a purple version of Piccolo if it was a female, except that this version was quite a sight to see, not too big, not too small, but just right. The fact that she was completely and utterly naked didn't help matters.
"First of all, I am a healthy young man, who in the world could ignore her when she and you are both walking around naked? So you really have no moral high ground to call me a pervert. Honestly, you two have the wrong idea, you should devour pollution and try to convince people to be more environmentally conscious, every time you do all these destructive things, you are having the earth more than humans do. As for who I am, well I am Saitama, and the guy next to what I think is your sister is Genos, and I am a hero for fun."
That simple act of telling him he was a hero for just the fun of it was so anger-inducing that Vaccine Man actually physically changed as his skin became a darker color of purple, and the look in his eyes became more murderous, "You are standing against the very defenders of Mother Earth and you are doing this for FUN! Does this seem like a joke to you? Because I am not laughing, you have to be one of the dumbest, most stupid people on this entire planet to think that putting your life at risk is what you consider entertainment."
He looked at his sister and Genos and then decided to glare at Saitama who was taking all this like it was nothing, "To make matters worse you are standing against the very people who were created to save this jewel of a planet that is so rare that it is like finding a jewel in a sea of mundane junk, and you are doing it for shits and giggles! I never knew that I could feel more insulted than I do at this very moment, and you proved me wrong because your very existence is more insulting than that idea. And sister how long do you plan to hold that thing's hand?"
His sister never even realized that the initial moment of Genos exchanging a handshake as a greeting turned out to be her holding this person's hand, but she didn't do it because she found him attractive, in fact, she did it to keep him from seriously trying to kill her brother because if her brother's killing intent was easy to see, the one that the blonde man whose hand she held hid was even worse.
But instead, Genos had been spending this entire time telling her the facts, and much to her surprise she actually accepted them, that in fact she could do more than simply kill the cause of pollution, but instead stop it altogether and remove said pollution from the planet, which somehow made her feel more connected with the Earth and started a weird process of changing her appearance as she began to grow hair and her delicate long hair that reached her elbows somehow framed her face in a beautiful appearance even hid her antenna, which Saitama if asked, would say he would consider cute.
That touching moment however was cut short by the fact that her brother was attempting to fight against Saitama and no matter how many punches he sent his way, it was easily avoided and blocked, to the point that he began to scream at his sister to come and help him killed the bald idiot and his lackey, to which the response by his sister that they actually made sense and they don't need to kill of humanity to save the planet made him so furious that he threw any filial loyalty aside and ate her whole in a single gulp.
That was going Saitama's face changed from his relaxed and playful face to a much more cold and serious one, the friendly attitude from before was gone and now stood a man who was as upset as Vaccine Man and he was not going to let him live to realize the error of his ways.
Vaccine man on his part grew into giant proportions, becoming more of a demon than what he looked like before growing claws and fangs as his head and face changed to something that most people would find in a Spawn Comic, something that was supposed to come from the very pits of hell. He attempted to kill Saitama but Saitama was done trying to reason, now with a single solitary punch, he caused Vaccine Man to blow up into pieces that came down raining from the sky as his punch had enough force to launch him into the air by a couple dozen feet before his body broke apart.
The strange thing is that as soon as this happened a much smaller and younger version of Vaccine Woman came out of the pieces of what could be called her brother's remains, and she only looked at Saitama with this utter shock and horror as he walked over to her, "Stop, please don't kill me, I am not like my brother, I understand, and I promise not to kill off humans and try to find ways to save the planet from pollution in a peaceful way so please by whatever is holy please dear god don't kill me."
Saitama walked over to her and began to brush off the pieces of her brother's remains off her, and helped her stand up, "You have nothing to fear from me, I will not harm you since you are not going to harm others, you have nothing to fear, but as it stands you are essentially naked, so why don't you come with us to my apartment where I can give you something to wear, and maybe help you recover from what your brother did to you."
This act must have seen so touching and so heartfelt that it made her face change shades and Genos realized that she was actually holding his master's hand and she was blushing. Saitama picked her up in a bridal carry and they both took off running towards their apartment building, which is a convenient way that wasn't that far from where they met them. It was a brisk run almost a jog not that far at all.
So after Saitama went towards his closet he found some sweatpants and a hoody sweatshirt, and a pair of sandals he wore when he was a kid, others would wonder why he kept those but Genos knew better than to ask. Genos walked over to hear if there were any messages for them while they had been out and sure enough, he heard one from the very people they both of them had been expecting, the people that they met on that island during Gohan's birthday.
Well to say Saitama knew exactly where they needed to go was obvious as soon as he heard the message play in the living room from his old answering machine, he knew where he needed to go and what he needed to do, so without even waiting for a confirmation he put Vaccine Girl on his back giving her the equivalent of a piggyback ride, and told Genos that they needed to get to the home of Master Roshi since they will be there if the level of distress in the voice that left that message means anything.
Vaccine Girl was actually at first shocked when they first began to run towards the ocean making her think they were trying to drown themselves and drag her with them, but she was amazed as the two began to run on the surface of the ocean as if it was them running on dirt after the initial shock was gone she actually started to enjoy the feel of the air and the wonder of seeing them run, and the happiness that came from realizing she made the right decision not to do as her now dead idiot brother had done.
They ran nonstop till they made it to the house and as they entered they found an equally sad and apologetic Chi-Chi as the very first thing she did upon seeing Saitama was to tell him he was right, and she was sorry for not taking his kind words in good faith and apologized profusely, Piccolo, however, was more focused on the little girl that was on Saitama's back. Something was odd about her, he could feel her look at him almost like she was seeing someone she knew but thought he couldn't be in the house.
"Don't worry Chi-Chi, no hard feelings, and Piccolo I could use your help with a little something could you please make some clothes for this little lady that is on my back, she initially looked an awful lot like you, and I happen to know that you can make clothes that are comfortable for yourself so if you could I could definitely appreciate the help."
Piccolo just asked one thing, why, why would he help him at all, he never knew him or owed him anything, that is when Genos told him that because he was going to learn more about his own people than he ever knew before, and they will guide him to the perfect place for them to train and if anything the mere promise that he will gain power should be enough.
Piccolo scuffed at the notion that he and Saitama knew more than he did about his own species, he decided to tell them that there is no way they knew more about the demon race than he already knew, to which Genos looked at him and told him he wasn't a demon, and if he wanted to know what he actually was he could help the little lady that goes by the name of Vaccine Girl and do as Saitama tells him, and Genos promised that he and Kami would both be pleasantly surprised by what they will both learn.
After removing the oversized sweatpants and hoodie sweatshirt, he saw that basically, he was looking at a younger version of himself if the only difference was that she was a girl, having spent some time in the home of Master Roshi Piccolo actually became acquainted with the notion of fashion more so than he ever hoped. He went through dozens of fashion magazines and catalogs as he waited for his chance to spar against Goku.
Goku and his friends were listening to everything knowing that this was not a time to interrupt, as soon as Piccolo finished thinking about it for a couple of minutes he placed his hand on the girl's head, and sure enough, she was soon dressed with a much more comfortable set of clothes that he would wear but now in her size, he even had a turban to help her hide her antenna. He even smiled as Vaccine girl thanked him for the clothes.
So Saitama walked over to where Goku and the others were and told everyone to follow him outside, and once they did he asked them all to form a link by holding hands and coming closer to him as he placed two fingers on his forehead and somehow in an instant all the Z-Fighters, Chi-Chi, and Bulma found themselves standing on the floor of the outpost Kami calls home, and Piccolo knew this immediately as he saw Kami and Mr. Popo walk towards them.
"So your great and perfect place for us to train is the hyperbolic time chamber, big deal, you know you can only spend less than a day in it, or the person goes insane, now out with it, what do you think you know of my kind?" Saitama told him he was only half correct, he was going to take them to a place that has both a perfect time chamber and a fully upgraded version of the gravity chamber Bulma just finished designing, and this place will provide them with everything they need and be able to stay there for as long as they want, unlike the current Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
"As for what I know of your kind Piccolo, it is far too vast for a simple conversation, we can talk about it during the resting period during training, but first, you are not a demon, nothing even close to one, you are a Namekian, an alien from another planet, so is Goku as a matter of fact, he is what is called a Saiyan, a proud warrior race. Now, why am I telling you this because during our time training I will not only help train your bodies but also your minds by giving you certain knowledge you would have to wait a long time to discover for yourselves, now is that not incentive enough to give me the benefit of doubt and accept to become part of my little party."
