Chapter 13: You can't be reliable if you're not sincere
Spheal was sitting on a sofa inside a house watching a boy, who had his back turned towards the ice-water type Pokémon, while he was sitting on a chair, leaning over a desk, engrossed in a book.
The plushy fur of a regular Spheal was predominantly blue-colored, while its shiny version was purple instead of blue.
But this special one was different. The fur on its back wasn't exactly blue, but it also wasn't purple. It was more a mixture. Something in between. More like violet, amethyst color.
Furthermore, this one's circular black button eyes had a green shimmer in them.
The boy that Spheal was watching had short spiky blue hair with his bangs swept to the right and dark eyes. He was rather tall and wore large glasses and a watch on his left wrist.
The clothes he was wearing consisted of a short-sleeved shirt under a cream vest and dark gray trousers.
His name was Kido Jou.
Jou had been leaning over his books since the early morning, ignoring the Pokémon behind him like he usually did. Next to Jou, there was a staple of even more books, that Jou had already read or that he was still going to read.
Spheal let out a sigh. The boy didn't take any notice of it. Spheal knew, that Jou wasn't reading any novels but was studying hard to become a Pokémon doctor and it wasn't like Spheal didn't like the idea of that - in fact, if it wasn't for that, they wouldn't even be together now - but sometimes it wished that they could go on a Pokémon journey together and having an adventure together.
Jou was already 11 years old, but he wasn't even thinking of going on a Pokémon journey.
In fact, even though Spheal had been living with the boy for quite a while now, it was, theoretically, still a wild Pokémon.
The boy hadn't even bothered to catch Spheal yet.
Maybe he thought that it was better for Pokémon to be free or that Spheal didn't want to be caught or maybe he just didn't care … Spheal didn't really know.
It wouldn't mind if the boy had caught it, but the way it was now, was also ok.
The only thing that mattered was that they were together.
Spheal thought back to the time they had met for the first time.
The Pokémon had been badly injured by some other wild Pokémon and was lying weak and helpless on the ground. It had already been on the verge of giving up and thought that this probably was it for it. But then suddenly this boy appeared. He kneeled down to the Pokémon and talked to it, saying that he knew some stuff about Pokémon medicine, since his mother was a nurse and he was studying to become a doctor and that he would help and everything would be alright.
And it wasn't just empty words. The boy really knew what he was doing.
He treated Spheal so well that the Pokémon got better in no time.
Spheal was really glad and thankful because of that and decided to stay with this boy who had saved its life.
Spheal looked to the side, where a small device was lying. The Pokémon found that device today when that strange weather phenomenon was going on.
Never in its life had the Pokémon seen anything like this before.
It was like a rainbow-colored curtain was hanging from the sky.
It was mysterious and beautiful at the same time. Spheal had tried to draw Jou's attention towards that magical weather phenomenon, but the boy was so immersed in his studies that he didn't recognize it at all. He didn't even look up when a comet shot down from the sky.
Spheal had been worried that it would hit their house as it was flying directly towards them.
Well, luckily it didn't hit their house but landed in front of it instead.
When Spheal had gone outside to see what it was, it turned out that it wasn't a comet, but a strange small device. A mobile phone? A toy? A Pokédex? A Pokéball? Spheal had no idea what it was, but somehow it felt like something really important, so the Pokémon decided to bring it inside.
Spheal looked at the device. Jou hadn't even been looking at it.
Spheal sighed again. Joy didn't take any notice of it.
The Spheal jumped up and went outside again.
With a sorrowful look on its face, it looked back at the house of its Trainer - well, technically Jou had never actually been its Trainer - and rolled away.
Spheal didn't really notice where it was rolling. The Pokémon didn't really care, because it didn't really matter. And so, a short time later Spheal ended up in a forest. It stopped and looked around. The Pokémon knew all too well that it was dangerous being in a forest alone.
"Jou …"
Before Spheal knew it, it was surrounded by a swarm of wild Beedrill.
Beedrill was known to be a rather aggressive Pokémon. Especially if someone disturbed them - and it seemed like Spheal had done so by accidentally invading their territory.
One, two, three, four … five! Spheal was up against five Beedrills and that all alone.
One of the Beedrill attacked Speahl with Fury Attack.
Unfortunately, Speed wasn't exactly Spheal's strong point, contrary to Beedrill and the ice-water type Pokémon couldn't evade the attack.
But luckily it only hit two times and Spheal had quite some stamina. It wouldn't give in so easily.
Spheal used Water Gun on Beedrill. The attack hit one of the Beedrills but didn't bring it down, and even so - there were four more.
Three of the Beedrills attacked Spheal attacked the ice-water Pokémon with Twinneedle.
Although Spheal's stamina was quite high, being attacked 6 times, as Twinneedle always hits twice was rough, and … Spheal suddenly felt so weak. What was that? Its vision started to blur and even though the other Pokémon weren't attacking anymore Spheal slowly felt weaker and weaker. One of the attacks must have inflicted poison.
Spheal was about to slowly close its eyes as he heard someone shouting.
A voice the Pokémon knew all too well.
"Spheal! Don't give up!" Jou shouted as he was running towards the Pokémon as fast as he could.
Spheal smiled.
"Jou …"
"Spheal, use Defense Curl!" Jou shouted and the Pokémon did as the boy said.
"And now use Rollout!"
The Pokémon did as Jou commanded.
Of course. Rollout was effective for five rounds and thanks to Defense Curl the power was doubled and it would further double with every hit. In addition, Rollout was a rock-type move and Beedrill was, besides being a poison type, also a bug type, making it weak to rock-type moves.
Spheal hadn't even thought about this before, but Jou really knew his stuff. Of course, he knew, considering how much he always studied about Pokémon.
Spheal attacked the Beedrill that it had attacked with Water Gun before first, as this one was already weakened. With the remaining attacks, it attacked the other four.
All five of the Beedrill were lying on the ground, defeated.
They had quite a high attack power and speed but not really that much constitution.
Spheal also sank to the ground and Jou rushed towards the Pokémon.
"Spheal, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," he said as he kneeled down and took the Pokémon in his arms.
"Wait, I'll treat your wounds," he told the injured and poisoned Pokémon and started to treat it.
Spheal looked gladly at Jou. The boy was really an expert when it came to medical knowledge and treating Pokémon. Seemed to run in the family and of course because Jou was always studying so hard. But that wasn't the only reason why Spheal was glad. Above all, it was glad that Jou came for it.
"I will treat the Beedrills as well," Jou said after he finished treating Spheal and started treating the wild Pokémon.
That was typical Jou. If a Pokémon was injured there was no way he could just ignore it and walk away. Wasn't that the reason why Spheal liked him so much?
The Beedrill seemed to have understood what was going on and what Jou had done, as they made some happy noises and then flew away.
"I'm sorry. I was a bad trainer, I know," Jou admitted as he turned his attention back towards Spheal.
He reached inside his pocket and took the device that Spheal had brought out of it.
Of course, at that time neither he nor Spheal knew what it was and that it was called a Digivice.
"You brought that, didn't you?" Jou asked the Pokémon and then added: "I wonder what it is. Do you know?"
Spheal shook its head.
Jou looked at the device and said: "Well, I'm sure we will find out" and put it back in his pocket.
Then he continued.
"Actually, I never really wanted to be a Pokémon trainer. I just wanted to be a Pokémon doctor. But now … I mean … I still want to become a Pokémon Doctor, but …"
He took a Poké Ball out of his pocket.
"If you still want to stay on my side as my Pokémon then …"
He held the Poké Ball in front of Spheal.
The Pokémon happily touched it and vanished inside.
Today it was the happiest Pokémon in the world.
Finally Jou officially became Spheals trainer and Spheal is really happy about it.
It seems like these two were also destined for each other.
Now all of the eight chosen children have appeared. Half of them are already in the Digital World. Will the others follow or will the four children in the Digital World find a way back to their world?
Be excited to find out … as the adventure takes off!
Monster-Analyzer:
Spheal: Spheal was a chubby, spherical, seal-like Pokémon with a short, flat, wide, fanned caudal fin.
It had two small front fins, black, circular eyes, a wide mouth with two small tusks protruding from its upper jaw and small, rounded ears.
Its plushy fur was light blue with several white spots of various sizes on its back and its stubby flippers and underside were both beige.
Jou's Spheal: Spheal's shiny version was purple instead of blue.
But this one was different. The fur on its back wasn't exactly blue, but it also wasn't purple. It was more a mixture. Something in between. More like violet, amethyst color.
Furthermore, its circular black button eyes had a green shimmer in them.
Beedrill: Beedrill is an insect Pokémon which mostly resembles a bipedal, yellow wasp; however, it only has four legs instead of six and lacks pigment pits. Beedrill's head is round with a slightly pointed mouth, large, red eyes, and black antennae with a sharp bend in the middle. Its forelegs are tipped with long, conical stingers. It stands on its other two legs, which are long, segmented, and insectoid in shape. Beedrill has two pairs of rounded, veined wings, and another stinger on its yellow-and-black striped abdomen.
