Author's Note: It just occurred to me that I finished this story without ever mentioning Javik after Chapter 17. Let's fix that, shall we?

One-Shot: What About Javik?

Javik was triumphant. More than triumphant.

He was ecstatic!

The Reapers were dead! His role as the Avatar of Vengeance had been fulfilled.

And yet...two nagging thoughts kept him from feeling completely content.

1. He did not play a major role in their ultimate defeat. The Trap on Digeris was not his idea, and although he was present at the Refining Station Summit, he had barely said a word. The Reapers were dead, but had he truly fulfilled his role? Truly?

2. He had absolutely no idea how to feel about this 'Galactic Confederation'. It went against everything the Prothean Empire stood for. But, well, the Protheans had lost and this cycle had won.

He came to a conclusion: He was too arrogant. His cycle lost, and this cycle had won. So it was his place to learn from them, not lecture them.

60 years later...

"So, why do you think the Prothean Empire did not succeed at defeating the Reapers?" the reporter asked politely.

"Homogeneity," he answered instantly. "The strength of the Confederation is in the way it encourages cooperation without eliminating the separate cultural identities of its peoples. The important matters - military strength, the economy, and human rights - sorry, sapient rights - are protected. And because the people do not feel oppressed, they are loyal to it. I must say that the Confederation has, to be frank, done a far better job of unifying the galaxy than the Prothean Empire ever did."

Javik wouldn't have thought of "human rights" as a important issue before the Death of the Reapers, but that event kind of shook his worldview...
