Chapter fifteen: The summer training camp, part three
Dabi led part of the Vanguard Action Squad through the woods near the summer camp training lodge as they made their way while looking around. Dabi's group was made up of himself, Mr. Compress, Kurogiri, and Rappa, and they were looking for the two members of the Wild, Wild Pussycats that they had to track down, those being Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob. Tracking down two of the three capture targets on Dabi's list was why Kurogiri and Mr. Compress were with him. A second team, consisting of Toga, Nagant, La Brava, and Gentle Criminal, were stalking nearby, ready to rush in to provide support.
"Can we do this?" Toga asked in her group as they kept separate but close to Dabi's group.
"We only have to knock out the people we don't wanna have to tango with," Nagant replied, "It's a good thing loads of the students are scattered in the woods too far to reach one another to back each other up. Mustard's sneaking around, systematically taking those groups out with knock out gas he can conjure."
Gentle nodded in agreement. "I approve of Dabi setting a 'no killing unless absolutely necessary' rule, as I have a bit of an issue with senseless killing."
"He said we can only kill someone if they make getting away for us otherwise impossible," La Brava began, "Or if we have good reason to believe that we or one of the members of our group would otherwise get killed, right?"
Nagant nodded in confirmation. Similar to Gentle, Nagant also approved of the 'no killing unless absolutely necessary' rule that Dabi had set for the mission. Granted, Nagant wasn't sure if certain persons in the Vanguard Action Squad (*cough*Muscular*cough*) will respect the rule, but at least Dabi was trying to run things clean here. And him also saying that once all three capture targets were successfully taken the whole of the Vanguard Action Squad was going to bail from the training camp was also a smart call to make. At least if you asked Nagant.
Get in, grab the goods while causing as little trouble as can be managed, then get out. For a leader, Dabi really had his head on straight.
Bakugo, Shinso, Shinra, and Shizuo were walking through the woods, ready to see what Class 1-B had to offer to try to scare them. "Feh, I'd like to see Deku and his idiots try to scare us," Bakugo said, "All I have to do is scowl at that nerd and he tenses up out of fright."
Shinso arched a wry eyebrow as he regarded Bakugo. "...Yes. I got it from our classmate Uraraka who got it from Midoriya that he and you have something of a history. I don't have details since she didn't give me any, but I can't say it's any good history since Uraraka has declared hatred for you over it."
"Like I give a shit what Round Face thinks!" Bakugo snarled, "Seriously, that girl is-" Bakugo stopped short when he and the others with him noticed someone up ahead laying on the ground, although part of them laid on the other side of a bush so that only their legs were within sight for the four boys from 1-A. But upon seeing that the person's feet were hooves rather than actual feet, Bakugo instantly became alarmed. "...Oh shit guys, I think something might have happened to Tsunotori over there," Bakugo remarked, sounding genuinely worried.
Shinra turned to look at Bakugo in surprise. "...You actually bothered to learn the name of one of the students in 1-B? And by that I mean actual name because I know full well that Midoriya's name isn't Deku."
"Why I wanted to learn Tsunotori's name is none of your damn business, Hellfire boy!" Bakugo snapped, then gestured for all of the boys to follow him as he added, "Now come on and help me see if she needs any attention!" Shinra, Shinso, and Shizuo proceeded to follow Bakugo over to where they saw Pony of class 1-B laying on the ground. Upon turning around the bush to come into full view of Pony, however, the boys were rattled to see Pony laying still, with her classmates Reiko and Kinoko also laying on the ground around her.
Taking a closer look, Shinso saw that the three girls were still breathing. "...They're alive," Shinso said, "But something must have knocked them out."
"Eww!" Shizuo said as he covered his nose and mouth with his left hand, "It must have been that nasty gas I'm smelling!" Soon enough, the other three boys also caught the same foul smell that Shizuo had picked up on.
Bakugo covered his nose and mouth much the same as Shizuo did, even waved his free hand in front of him. "The fuck is that smell?" Bakugo said, "Did someone fart after eating a lot of burritos or something?"
"I don't eat burritos," a male voice called out, making Bakugo and the others turn and see Mustard approaching them, aiming a gun at them to their worries, "And the smell is coming from the gas that I'm making with my quirk." Suddenly, Mustard aimed his gun right at Shinso. "I got the lowdown on how your quirk works," Mustard said, "You so much as make even one syllable, and I'm shooting right away. Can't have you brainwashing me into helplessness, now can I?"
"You're pretty well informed on us," Shinra said, holding up his free hand to conjure some black fire, "Pretty suspicious if you ask me."
"And I would advice against using that fire of yours," Mustard said, "For you see, my gas is highly combustible. And I have quite a lot of it out right now, enough so that if exposed to something that can set it off, it'll create an explosion of flame that will instantly alight a fair portion of the woods in this area. You, ashy haired boy with the Explosion quirk, could also probably do the same. You guys might be able to take the heat, but what about those knocked out girls?"
Bakugo turned around to look at where Pony, Reiko, and Kinoko all laid on the ground. The villain bastard in front of him and the boys had a point; and if Shinra's black fire can set off the gas, Bakugo's explosions could probably also do the same, just as Mustard had said. Bakugo turned to look back at Mustard. "...Feh, so you'll shoot Eyebags if he says a word, and Hellfire boy and I can't use our quirks without risking the girls behind us or setting off a massive forest fire," Bakugo remarked, "Pretty damn convenient for you."
"I could rush him and punch his lights out," Shizuo offered.
Mustard gestured with his gun. "You move, and I'll pull the trigger automatically, shooting and killing the brainwasher boy." Seeing that the four 1-A boys were going to behave, Mustard said, "Good. Now, all I want you guys to do is to lay down and behave yourselves like how the girls behind you are doing. Not, of course, were you all going to do anything else anyway, given that I got enough of my gas out that it'll make you all pass out within short order."
Sure enough, Bakugo and his group with him soon all began coughing as they all went down, Mustard's gas having gotten to them and working its wicked magic on all of them. Soon enough, the four boys from 1-A passed out, laying helpless on the ground. Once the four boys were passed out, Mustard let out a sigh of relief through the gas mask he wore to protect himself from his own gas. The fact that he was bluffing (the gas he was using was not actually combustible) aside, he didn't want to have to tango with these four boys who, according the the info Dabi got from his spy, wouldn't be easy to handle head on; he'd have to actually shoot to kill if he wanted to get away from a confrontation with those boys.
The Vanguard Action Squad got it down that twenty-four of the forty hero students at the camp would be wandering around outside to take part in some sort of 'Test of Courage' game while the remaining sixteen hero students, one of them being one of Dabi's three capture targets, were stuck at the lodge taking special remedial lessons under the underground pro hero Eraserhead. Mustard had been keeping a mental tally, so he knows that he's taken out twenty of the twenty-four students. And he did so by simply knocking them out with some knock out gas he can make with his quirk, thus taking them out harmlessly in respect to Dabi's 'no killing unless absolutely necessary' rule.
The young villain hoped that everyone in the Vanguard Action Squad remembered that rule.
Itsuka, Tetsutetsu, Hiryu, and Togaru stood with Pixie-Bob and Ragdoll as the combined six of them encountered Dabi, Rappa, Kurogiri, and Mr. Compress in a somewhat open area. "Who the hell are you guys?!" Pixie-Bob demanded, "You're not looking to be of the friendly sort!"
Dabi shrugged. "Ehh, you got us there. Let me just cut to the chase then." Gesturing to himself, Dabi said, "We, that is my associates and I who are all here at your little summer training camp, are known as the League of Villains. ...Well, we're a different League of Villains than the one that attacked that USJ place you heroes had."
"I'm guessing you're using their name since they were wiped out now?" Itsuka snarled, understandably angry that these villains were using the name of the group that had taken the lives of five students and the pro hero Thirteen.
"Actually, they took it from us," Kurogiri said, "Hence why I had been sent to 'join them' as it were, to eventually lead them all into a trap to get rid of the pathetic b-list thugs who'd dared to try and use our organization's name."
Ragdoll took a stance showing she was ready to throw down. "Yeah, I got it from Aizawa that some mist villain was at the attack on the USJ. I take it that was you?"
Kurogiri nodded once in the affirmative. "Don't think us like those trigger-happy buffoons from the USJ, however. We would actually prefer to avoid killing as many people here as possible, believe it or not, and will only kill someone if we're not given a choice in the matter."
Pixie-Bob scoffed in bemusement. "Well aren't you guys dandy. By the way, you still haven't told us why you're here."
"We're only here to capture and take away three specific persons we know full well are here at the training camp," Mr. Compress said, then went on while gesturing to Ragdoll with his cane and Pixie-Bob with his free hand, "And two of you three targets are right here. Very marvelous."
"Oh, so you wanna party with Pixie-Bob and I?" Ragdoll asked, a hint of knowing sarcasm in her tone, "How sweet."
"And who's the third target you guys wanna kidnap?" Hiryu demanded.
Making the lip zipping gesture, Dabi replied, "Ah, ah, ah, we can't say who it is exactly, that would be telling. But I will say this; they're stuck over at the lodge under Eraserhead's stern tutelage right now."
Itsuka's eyes widened a bit out of alarm. "...You're aiming to kidnap one of the students in Class 1-A."
"Exactly," Rappa said, "And given who they're connected to, the student target is pretty damn useful to Dabi and the rest of us."
"Who they're... connected..." Togaru said, trying to figure it out. Suddenly, he let out a gasp. "You're aiming to kidnap Shoto Todoroki! His daddy's the number two hero in the country, so it'll look bad for UA if while on their watch Todoroki's kidnapped by villains!"
"Yes, that would make sense," Dabi admitted with a shrug, "Howev-"
"HIYAA!"
Dabi was cut off when Mandalay came flying in with a kick, forcing him to dodge. Mandalay then jumped back to join Pixie-Bob, Ragdoll, and the four 1-B students there as Tiger came running up. "Of course," Mandalay said in an annoyed tone, "Of COURSE villains would show up and attack the training camp!"
"There's now eight of us and only four of them!" Togaru said, "We got them outnumbered two to one! Let's just rush them!" Making a blade grow out from his right forearm, the mantis boy proceeded to rush right at the villains despite the Pussycats calling out to him to back off. He tried slashing at Kurogiri, but for some odd reason the air between them stretched like rubber, before the elasticity bounced Togaru back. As he got up, he and the others saw a man dressed like a butler in an elaborate cape come out and join Dabi, along with a girl wearing a cardigan and a school uniform skirt, and a short girl in a gothic lolita outfit and she had long red pigtails.
Dabi smirked as he and his allies got ready to fight. "We aren't as outnumbered as you think we are."
Mandalay growled in annoyance. "This is bad. Better send a telepathic message to the lodge." Mandalay then proceeded to use her quirk to send a message to the lodge, telling them what was happening, as well as what it was that the villains came for.
Back over in the lodge, Aizawa had his sixteen students who failed the practical in the remedial classroom, going over a refresher lesson. Sekijiro was also in the room, though he was keeping quite. The monotony was broken when everyone in the classroom heard Mandalay's voice in their heads, as if she were speaking over a school intercom system.
"Everyone, this is Mandalay!" they all heard Mandalay's voice say, "This is an emergency! The training camp has just been invaded by a new group using the League of Villains name the group who attacked the USJ had used!"
"What?!" Aizawa exclaimed, instantly alarmed, "A second League of Villains?!" Understandably, the 1-A students were all alarmed.
"They say they're here to capture Pixie-Bob, Ragdoll, and one of Eraserhead's students in the remedial class!" Mandalay's voice went on, "They didn't say which student specifically, but we have good reason to believe it's Endeavor's son!"
Todoroki himself scowled bitterly. "I always figured being the son of one of Japan's absolute top heroes would bite me in the ass, although I'm surprised it took this long for villains to consider kidnapping me, now that I think about it."
"The rest of the Pussycats and I, plus four of Vlad King's students, are currently confronting seven villains, including the mist villain who belonged to the first League of Villains," Mandalay's voice said, making Aizawa and Sekijiro tense up, "But they most likely have more allies that they brought along! Things are going to get tough!"
After the telepathic message ended, Kurata said, "We need to go back them up!"
"You all are still first years," Aizawa said, "Stay here and bunker down while Sekijiro and I go out to assist the Pussycats!"
"But what if they come here for Todoroki?" Hagakura asked, "You heard Mandalay! The villains will be wanting to take him!"
Grasping the sides of his head, Sekijiro said, "Aww fuck! How can this get any-"
*CRASH*
A large portion of wall was busted down somewhere in the lodge, making the students all jump out of fright. "They've reached the lodge!" Sero cried, "We're dead! Game over, man! Game over!"
"You kids stay here!" Aizawa said, practically barking the order, before he and Sekijiro ran out to confront whoever crashed into the lodge.
After the door to the remedial classroom was locked behind the teachers, the students of 1-A looked around. "What will we do if the villains come for us?" Mina asked, "Todoroki especially since the villains want to kidnap him! Probably to either stick it to and or demand ransom from his dad Endeavor!"
Todoroki scoffed in mild annoyance. "I'd like to see them try to take me."
"...Still, it wouldn't hurt to have some insurance in case they do successfully take you," Yaoyorozu said, before immediately beginning to spawn a few necklaces with fairly big locket charms on them. Handing one to Todoroki, Yaoyorozu said, "Wear this under your shirt. If you are taken, the other necklaces can be used to trace your location since all of them have tracking device chips inside of them."
"Whoa ho ho," Jiro said as she saw Todoroki put on the necklace given to him, then added after turning to look at Yaoyorozu, "Smart thinking, Yaoyorozu! The heroes could even potentially track the villains down to where they end up taking Todoroki!"
"IF they're able to take me," Todoroki clarified as Yaoyorozu put on one of the necklaces herself before hiding it under her shirt, then giving the last one to Jiro who put it on before hiding it under her shirt. Even though the 1-A students had some insurance, they'd still rather that the villains not take Todoroki, and prayed that Aizawa and Sekijiro were successful in dealing with whoever crashed their way into the summer training camp lodge.
In the front common area of the training lodge, Aizawa and Sekijiro were swamped as they fought off the villains they encountered. Spinner stood back to supervise his allies Magne, Moonfish, and Twice, although he did parry a blood whip from Sekijiro when the Blood Hero took aim at him in a free window of time in the fight. Aizawa quickly knocked out Moonfish, recognizing him as an escaped villain with a 'take this guy down NOW' label in the world of underground heroes, and was now keeping an eye on Magne while dodging a few Twice clones.
"Where the hell did these guys come from?!" Sekijiro yelled as he took out three Twice clones in a single motion with a blood whip.
"We've got to protect the students!" Aizawa yelled back to Sekijiro while dodging two more Twice clones as he continued to try to keep Magne occupied, "We can't allow any sort of-"
*CRASH*
Aizawa was cut off when another portion of wall in the front common area was busted down, from the outside as a hulking Muscular, wearing a distinctive red cap with two horns on it, walked on in with a darkly amused smirk on his face. "Oi boys!" Muscular called out, "You all didn't start the party without me, now did you?"
"One of the three capture targets is here in the lodge building, Muscular," Spinner said, "We need to-" Spinner stopped short upon noticing the hat that Muscular was now wearing. "...Where did the hat come from?"
Aizawa and Sekijiro both turned to look at Muscular, saw the hat he was wearing. "...That looks like the hat Mandalay's little cousin Kota wears," Aizawa said.
"What did you do, you monster?" Sekijiro spat.
Holding up his hands in a 'whoa easy there' gesture, Muscular said, "Hey now, hey now, this hat was laying on the ground when I picked it up. I thought it looked cool so I took it."
Spinner very highly doubt that Muscular was giving all the details, but now wasn't the time to get up in his face about it. "...Whatever," Spinner said, "Look, one of the three capture targets Dabi wants to take is here in the lodge building. Let's just find and collect the target so we can get the hell out of here."
"Like hell you're taking Aizawa's student Todoroki!" Sekijiro snarled, readying more whips of blood to lash at the villains with.
The villains all looked confused. "...Wait a minute, Todoroki?" Magne said, "Like Endeavor's son? I wasn't aware that a boy with such lineage was here."
Shrugging, Muscular added, "I wasn't aware that Endeavor's son apparently has tits and a vagina."
Aizawa's eyes widened, realizing that the assumption of the Pussycats was inaccurate, given that they thought the villains were aiming to abduct Todoroki since they said they were going to take a student. But the muscle villain's crude statement suggested that this second League of Villains was after one of the girls instead. Well either way, the villains were going to fail in taking any of the 1-A students.
Because Aizawa was there, and he wouldn't let them take any of his students.
Over there the Pussycats and four of Sekijiro's students were fighting seven of the villains, Itsuka ran up to Rappa as she enlarged her fists. But her one massive punch was blocked and reflected by the fast flurry of punches that Rappa unleashed, each of his punches hitting with bullet speed and cannonball force. "GAAHH!" Itsuka cried out as she recoiled away, her hands shrinking down to normal before she held her right hand in her left, hissing in pain.
"Hey now, don't sell yourself short," Rappa said to Itsuka, "That's actually a pretty neat trick! Hell, if you could punch as fast and as hard as I can with fists that big, just imagine how much damage you can do in a fight!"
Tetsutetsu, seeing how fast and hard Rappa can punch, immediately went into full metal mode. "Let's see how well you can punch against a target of solid steel, you punch drunk bastard!" Tetsutetsu cried out, getting Rappa's attention. Before Rappa could turn to face Tetsutetsu, however, the metal 1-B boy, as well as the Pussycats aside from Tiger, were swamped in the sinister blue fires of Dabi's quirk.
"If what I recall from some old video games I played way back in the day is accurate," Dabi said at his targets as he continued to crack out more blue fire, "Steel is weak to fire! Try taking a super-effective hit like this, Steel Boy!"
Tetsutetsu, Mandalay, Ragdoll, and Pixie-Bob all fell away to get back from Dabi's blue fire, unable to pay much attention to their surroundings. As such, both Kurogiri and Mr. Compress took advantage of the situation by seeing Kurogiri use his quirk to warp Mr. Compress to behind Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob; holding his hands out to the two girls, Mr. Compress used his quirk on them, compressing them into small marbles before quickly snatching them up. "Hey!" Tetsutetsu snapped, "That magician guy just snatch up Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob!"
Mr. Compress and Kurogiri both leapt back to get some distance from Mandalay, Tiger, and the four 1-B students. "Well we've captured two of our three targets here at your little camp," Mr. Compress said before safely pocketing the marbles that Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob were compressed into, "Now all we have to do before we can take our leave is head over to the lodge to collect-"
"Not so fast, villain!" Tiger declared, rushing Mr. Compress and using his quirk to coil around Mr. Compress, constricting him as if Tiger were a large snake. "You'll not be taking any of the students," Tiger said, "And you'll be giving back Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob before I throw you to the police so they can-"
*BANG*
To the horror of Mandalay and the four 1-B students there, Tiger's head jerked to the side before he went limp, allowing Mr. Compress to slip out from his hold without issue. There was a notable bullet wound in the left side of Tiger's head, making it painfully, tragically clear that the four members of the Wild, Wild Pussycats had been knocked down to being tres amigos. Letting out an impressed whistle, Rappa said, "Wow, little miss sniper's got really good aim."
Dabi nodded in agreement. "Mr. Compress is invaluable to our mission, so seeing him bound and otherwise doomed to be thrown to the police is a good excuse. Nagant made a good judgment call."
Mandalay, although shocked and heartbroken to see one of her teammates killed right before her eyes, looked up to Dabi, a look of shocked alarm on her face. "Wait a minute, Nagant?" Mandalay said, "As is Lady Nagant, the ex-hero who turned villain after killing a high ranking member of the HPSC?"
"What, you heroes don't allow anything to touch the bureaucratic gods in the HPSC who lord over you guys?" La Brava spat, her tone towards Mandalay and the four students from Class 1-B bitter.
"Yeah, we set up an elaborate scheme to get Nagant out of Tartarus and into our new League of Villains," Dabi admitted, "It helps that part of our end goal will see the corrupt bastards in the HPSC who lord over hero society here in Japan get sent to the chopping block. Although since Nagant was promised a hand in the execution process, it'll be less of 'sent to the chopping block' and more 'sent to the firing range'." Dabi turned to look at Kurogiri and Mr. Compress. "You two, go assist our pals at the lodge and capture the third and final capture target," Dabi said, "There's only one hero and four hero students left here to deal with."
"What, you're going to kill us too," Hiryu snarled, "Just like you killed Tiger?"
Holding his hand up at shoulder level with the palms facing outward, Dabi said, "Hey now, we won't kill unless we find it absolutely necessary. We're just gonna knock the five of you out and leave you here before we meet back up with the rest of our group at the lodge, see to capturing the final capture target, then get the hell out of dodge. Personally, I hope that one who Nagant sniped is the only person that my League here ends up killing."
Mandalay, Itsuka, Tetsutetsu, Hiryu, and Togaru all grimaced as they were fighting at a distinct disadvantage; outnumbered, and the enemy has a sniper hidden near by who has shown she's not above taking lives if she feels it necessary. To make matters worse, two of the villains are getting away and are on their way to the lodge to try taking one of Aizawa's students. Mandalay needed to focus to use her quirk to warn Aizawa and Sekijiro, but with the villains before her aiming to continue the fight right away and also there were multiple hero students here, not to mention Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob both being captured and Tiger having just been killed, Mandalay was in one of the toughest spots in her life.
Mandalay hoped that things wouldn't get any worse.
END, CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Author's notes;
Yeah, the LoV under Dabi here are playing hardball. Their greater than normal numbers, plus the lesser than normal numbers of the first year UA hero course students that are around to fight back, have led to making things significantly easier for Dabi and company. The training camp arc will conclude in the next chapter, as well as see some more fallout that can ultimately be traced to Izuku NOT being put into and kept in Class 1-A.
(Also, spoiler in case any of you are freaked over Muscular having Kota's hat; the little guy was actually only knocked out. I'm not a monster, or at least not enough of one to kill off Kota.)
