Chapter 14: A dream coming true?
Once they made it into their hotel room, Calleigh excused herself and headed to the bathroom, taking a bag with her while Horatio smiled as he headed for the end of the bed to sit down on and take off his shoes and socks.
He had just stood up when the bathroom door opened, so he turned around and his heart started racing at the sight of his beautiful wife in a blue, thin strap nighty.
He took a breath as he walked up to her, speaking softly but passionately. "My god sweetheart, you look amazing." He stopped with a smile as he continued. "Not that you don't always look amazing."
She chuckled with a nod of understanding before cupping his cheek. "I just look a different kind of amazing right now."
"Oh, yeah."
They stare into each other's eyes for a few minutes, just soaking up the moment, then her hand slid down to his dress shirt to undo the buttons, and when she got to the last one, she slid her hands up his smooth chest and under his shirt so she could slide it off his shoulders.
Before it even fell to the floor, they were already kissing and walking towards the bed.
When they got there his pants were off before they got on the bed so he was above her. They took another moment to just stare at one another before he leaned down and started kissing her slowly at first before it got passionate while their hands were all over one another.
Sometime later that night, cuddled in each other's arms, they were slowly getting their breath back, and when she did first, she whispered with a smile. "Happy Anniversary, handsome.".
He kissed the top of her head and whispered in return. "Happy Anniversary, sweetheart."
After one more kiss, they slowly fell asleep.
Next Morning
When the couple woke up, Calleigh had been feeling very nauseous but they still went down to the hotel's dining room so they could try and enjoy breakfast with Derek and Felicia, but halfway through it, Calleigh excuses herself from the table and rushed towards the restroom, barely making it into one of the stalls.
Once she was done throwing up, she opened the stall door to see Felicia with a small smile while holding out some mouthwash.
Calleigh took it with a smile in return. "Thank you."
The other woman nodded. "You're welcome. How are you feeling?"
Once Calleigh washed out her mouth, she replied. "A little better, but I still feel nauseous."
Felicia then smirked as she took the rest of the bottle of mouthwash from her. "I don't know, if I didn't know any better, I would think you are pregnant."
Calleigh gasped after a pause. "Oh my God, you don't think..."
She trialed off and Felicia looked at her. "I mean it's obviously possible." She then ignored Calleigh's shy look as she continued. "But only you can tell. Do you really think that's what this is? Or could it really be something you ate last night?"
Calleigh puts her hand on her stomach as she spoke softly. "I honestly don't know, in this moment I can only hope."
Felicia then asks. "So, this is something you both want, right?"
While Horatio and her were longtime friends, their friendship was different than the one he had with her husband, there were things he only shared with him, like what he wanted in life, which was fine with her, as long as he wasn't hiding a serious illness.
Calleigh nodded with a smile and her eyes started to get teary-eyed. "Yes, this would be something we absolutely want, but we weren't going to put pressure on it or give ourselves a time frame, we just hoped it happened one day." Felicia nodded with a smile before Calleigh took a breath and continued. "Now I don't know what to do, on one hand I don't want to get him involved and take the test only to find out it's negative and dash his hopes. But on the other hand, I want to experience finding out together for the first time, especially if it turns out to be positive."
There was a slight pause before Felicia spoke again. "In my opinion, I think you should include him. Yeah, no doubt it will be disappointing if it's negative, but he would be with you and you two can share that together."
Calleigh nodded. "Yeah, you're right, I can't not include him, we are in this together, no matter what." Felicia nodded in agreement with a smile, then Calleigh asked. "Will you come with me to get the test?"
Felicia nodded with another smile. "Of course, we'll just tell the guys we are having a girl's day for a few hours."
After Calleigh agreed to that, they left the restroom, got to the table, where Calleigh assured Horatio that everything was alright, then once they were done with their food, Calleigh and Felicia left the guys alone.
Once they got the test, while it was a little hard not taking it right away, the girls did a little shopping to distract themselves before they parted at the hotel lobby a few hours later, just like they said they would.
When she got back to the room, she waited for Horatio to show up, and when he did, he asked. "Did you two have a good time?"
She nodded in return before she cleared her throat as she pulled something out of a plastic bag. "I did. Now there is something we need to do." He stood there shocked when he saw what was in her hand, and she took the few steps towards him and cupped his cheek before she continued. "Now I don't know for sure, this morning's sickness could have been because of what I ate last night but..."
Horatio cuts her off with tears in his eyes as he placed his hand on top of hers. "I understand, sweetheart. Let's find out."
She then started to have tears in her eyes. "I don't want to get your hopes up just for them to be..."
He cuts her off again, this time more reassuringly, knowing how scared she was of disappointing him if it's negative. "And I'm glad you are including me, regardless of what the results will be, because I want to be there for you, no matter what." He wiped a few tears off her cheeks as he finished with love in his eyes. "And if it's negative, it's not the end of the world, that just means we can keep trying."
She chuckled. "I bet you're already looking forward to that."
He spoke again softly with love still in his eyes. "What I'm really looking forward to is having a baby with you, whether it will be now, or sometime down the road."
She took a breath, feeling a little calmer, although a part of her was still on edge as she hoped having this baby will be here sooner rather than later.
"Me too, handsome. I want this so much for us, especially for you."
He nodded in return before they kissed softly, and after pulling back, they gave each other a look before she turned and headed towards the bathroom with the test in her hand.
A few moments later she walks out of the bathroom. "Now all we have to do is wait."
He nodded while taking her hand before moving them over towards the bed to sit down and wait, both having so many emotions and feelings running through them.
When the wait, which felt like forever to them, was finally over, they got up from the bed and headed to the bathroom.
Once they got there, they stopped in the doorway, then he looks at her with love in his eyes. "Remember sweetheart, no matter what the test says, it's going to be alright, you are not in this alone."
She nodded with a small smile. "And neither are you."
They kiss softly before walking towards the counter, where the test was that will tell them if they'll have a little one now.
They get there and looked at one another again and they had the same thought.
"We look together."
They smiled with a nod before looking at the test together.
A moment later, Calleigh's eyes started to fill up with tears as Horatio just stood there in shock, couldn't believe what the test indicated, even though it was right there in front of him.
Another moment passed by before anything was said, and it was Calleigh, who looked at her husband with tears now going down her cheeks. "Handsome, are you..."
She gets cut off when he brings her into a passionate kiss, then after pulling back, he started to have tears in his eyes, which didn't happen much that she had witnessed so she knew how much important this moment was for him, them.
"Sweetheart, I don't know what else to say except thank you, you made a dream that I didn't know I wanted or could have come true."
She smiled then spoke with a sniffle as she placed her hand on her stomach. "Well, a start of a dream coming true, he or she isn't here yet."
He chuckled as he placed his hand on top of hers. "True, but we have to start somewhere."
She nodded, then took a breath before bringing them back to reality. "But you know I'll feel better about the results from a doctor."
He nodded in agreement with a smile. "I know, me too. But we can still celebrate, right?"
She chuckled with a nod as she wrapped her arms around him. "I got no problem with that." He started to smile as he leaned down to kiss her, but she pulled back, causing him to look at her with a raised eyebrow before she spoke. "And I know it's going to be hard, to even keep a straight face, but please don't tell Derek yet, at least not until it's truly official."
He nodded with a loving smile. "I won't, I promise." He then asked. "And that means you won't tell Felicia either, right?"
Calleigh chuckled before asking. "How do you know she even knew anything?"
"Well, every time we get together you two seem to be getting closer, and come to think about it, she did follow you into the bathroom earlier today, so I assume she knew what could be going on with you."
"You would be right on both accounts, and I agree, I won't say anything to her."
He nodded before he leans down closer to her so they could share a kiss, and before it grew with passion, he pulled back and whispered with emotion. "I love you Calleigh, and you've made these last two years, no last six years, the best I ever had."
She replied with emotion as she cupped his cheek and ran her thumb up and down it. "And if the test is correct, our lives are about to get better."
"You got that right, sweetheart."
They kiss again, this time while walking towards the bed.
Later that evening they met Felicia and Derek for dinner, which would be their last night together because they were heading home in the morning. And Horatio and Calleigh, while they'll both admit it was hard, they didn't let anything slip about the news they could have, and Felicia didn't ask questions, wanting to respect their privacy, even though it was hard for her too.
The next morning the couples enjoyed breakfast in their own rooms before meeting down at the lobby, then headed for the airport together.
Once they got there and returned their vehicles, they got their tickets, which their flights were pretty much at the opposite ends of the airport, so they said their goodbyes when they realized they had to part.
They wished one another safe travels, they mentioned how nice it was to see one another again, then even made tentative plans to see one another again sooner rather than later, all hoping it will work out, but knowing how work can go for them, already preparing it could be a while before they saw each other again, then they finally said their goodbyes and parted ways.
Next Day
In the morning they went to the lab but took an early lunch to go to their scheduled doctor's appointment so she could get tested, which they said they'll find out the results later that night.
And during the rest of the work, while they tried to stay calm on the outside, inside they were filled with so much emotion.
As it got closer for that certain phone call, they couldn't keep their eyes off her phone, even while they were eating dinner.
Then while they were finishing up the dishes, Calleigh's phone rings.
They look at her phone on the counter, seeing it was her doctor's number, then they looked at one another and he held out his hand, she took it before using her other hand to pick up her phone, accepted the call and spoke.
"Good evening, Dr. Bolton."
"Good evening, Mrs. Caine. I have your test results."
