I apologise for posting late, a lot has happened writing the story, editing and re-editing again in the hope the story fits. So to not let you all wait, lets get on with the story.
A seven year old Hana cracked her eyes to a sunny morning. Sitting up, she noticed that her brothers are both building a robot together without her. She has always felt left out by her brothers from time to time, they would always do something together like building robots, cooking, going to the park, visiting the sciencetorium, and so on, and she would feel forgotten at times or left out.
This would have a huge effect on her self-esteem over time, as she would talk less to her brothers about her problems. But when she could, she would talk to her older brother Tadashi about everything as she felt she couldn't talk to her twin about it. Tadashi would be the only one she could talk to.
"Hana, Breakfast. Hurry up before the boys eat everything" Aunt?...Mom?... Cass yells, Hana got out and dashed downstairs to the second floor where she saw the table decked with her favorite breakfast and went to sit next to Hiro who was eating his favorite donut.
While eating, Tadashi and Hiro both talked about making a robot to help Aunt?...Mom?... Cass out in the cafe. Hana wanted to be in on the conversation too, but doubt they would notice her.
After breakfast, the boys went down to the garage/home lab while Hana went upstairs to draw in her notebook. She would then wonder why she was always left out when her brothers would do something new. She wanted to be part of everything they do together, so why was she always left out by them?
"You could have told them you felt left out, you know. Scream in their faces you want to be heard as well. Why didn't you do that?"
A voice of a boy said in her head. Hana didn't ask any questions why she would hear a boy's voice inside her head, but she did pay attention to the sentence. She wanted so badly to be seen, heard, and accepted by her brothers.
Swallowing all her insecurretie, low self-esteem, fear, and doubt, she stood up and went downstairs to the garage.
Down in the garage, Tadashi and Hiro were busy building a hoverkart. Hana stood at the entrance of the garage, watching them working together without her. She let out a breath and walked over to them.
Hana gathered all her strength and… "Guy's, I want to be part of it." Both boys look up to her with confusion, "What do you mean 'I want to be part of it?" Tadashi says to her.
"Part of you hanging out together guy's. I want to be in on all the things you guys do together. Making new inventions, going to the sciencetorium, and so on. I don't wanna be alone anymore." She told them with a burning self-confidence that came from nowhere.
Her brothers looked at her like she had grown nine more extra heads. "You feel left out? How?" Tadashi said to her. Hana had to swallow her fear again to speak. "You guys always hang out together, and you never even ask if I want to help out too? You always forget me and I… I feel left out."
Tadashi stood up and walked over to her. "Whait! You felt left out? Why didn't you say so? Of course we would ask you to join us if we knew you felt left out all the time." Tadashi hugger as she hugged him back. Hiro ran over to them and wanted to be a part of the hug too.
At that moment, Cass came by to ast the boys to buy some groceries for tonight's dinner with her. Tadashi asked Hana if she wanted to join them. Hana's eyes were wide and she smiled from ear to ear showing off her white teeth. She said yes of course.
On their way back home from the grocery store, aunt Cass steared the three siblings to a surprise store they never thought to visit, The Pet Shop. Hiro looked at Cass saying, "Hug, really?" Cas nodded in agreement as the four went inside. Hana was practically bouncing on her feet seeing all those adorable pets. Tadashi and Hiro followed her to the puppies where Hana was squealing over a Golden Retriever. Cass wasn't such a dog lover and went over to the cats. Hiro followed her while Tadashi looked at all the happy puppies. He would buy a puppy for her to see her so happy even if he is more a cat person himself, but Cass on the other hand wanted a kitten rather than a puppy. Hiro was all too excited over a small Japanese Bobtail cat.
"Look Dashi…" Hiro pointed with his little finger toward the fluffy small Japanese bobtail kitten. A weird memory appeared in Hana's head as she remembers Hiro coming home once with a kitten they bought from the pet store. Is this the moment they had found their newest addition to their family? Hana believed that.
She watched as Hiro carried the kitten he was given by the store owner and held the kitten protectively. Once Tadashi and Hana agreed to have a cat as a pet, Cass went to pay for all the need to raise a cat, and the store owner helped her out. With Tadashi and Hiro throwing names for the small kitten, Hana was with her thoughts at the moment. She got a feeling that something inside her is shifting and that she feels overwhelmed with a strange energy. Tadashi and Hiro both had cute names for the kitten but couldn't figure which name is better, so they asked Hana to be the final vote. With Hiro giving the name Mochi, and Tadashi the name Maxi, Hana already knew which name she would choose.
And so the new member of the family was named…Mochi.
Back home, both Hiro and Hana helped give Mochi a bath and feed it. Hana was glowing from happiness that not only was she part of her brother's life, but she also had a new fund memory added to her memory library.
When bedtime rolled over, the twins were sleeping in Hiro's bed where Mochi was figuring out what a human sized bed was. As both played with the kitten for a while, it was soon time to sleep and Hana drifted off to dreamland.
Hiro woke up from a nap to see he's sitting at his desk. Head resting on his hand and elbow on the table.
Looking at his desk, he saw black parts of a robot being put together. Smiling, he was building megabot weeks after graduating. He turned around to see Hana sitting on her bed.
She was staring at the floor. Just staring. Her hair was shorter. Just above her hips. Vivian had once put gum in her hair, resulting in Hana needing to cut her hair to remove the gum. It took years for her hair to grow this long.
Vivian! He wanted to punch her, slap her in the face and kick her butt for putting his sister through all that. But...he remembers the interview and what happened after Mikey pushed him in the poo...Hold on a second! He remembers the interview and the pool incident. But...he was 13, how can he know about that? They never went on vacation until the next summer.
Grabbing a part, Hiro was taken aback that the part felt so real to his fingertips. The smooth texture against his skin, the sharp edges that can cut his skin.
He took a tool that had a mirror effect to look at his reflection to see he was younger, his hair was shorter, and had more of a baby face. Laying the tool back down. Looking back to where Hana is, he noticed she was younger too.
Turning, he was just as confused as the moment he discovered he has powe-no! Powers don't exist. He shook his head a bit and went further to work on megabot.
15 minutes into work and Hiro had a hard time to focus. It was hard to ignore the memories of the pool incident. Why did Mikey have to push him? He knows he's mad at him, but why did he have to push him? It was Mikey's and Hana's fault that things happened to him the way they are.
Hana On the other hand had started sketching on her own robot by that time. It was a ninja-styled warrior robot.
Trying to distract himself, he gave up after 5 minutes. How can he remember something from the future in this time? Or was it the other side around. He doesn't know. He decided to take a quick nap to empty his head. He laid his head on his arms and closed his eyes, dozing off to dreamland.
Next day, Cass, Karmi, Megan, Hana, Mikey, Krei, Liv, Orso, and the five robots were on the first floor of the duplex apartment. Mochi in in the boy's room sleeping with Hiro.
"So" Cass started "Who will start talking first?" she said to everyone in the room. Because Karmi and Megan are still clueless, none of them talked. After some quiet seconds, Liv stood up and began first. "Cass, we all" she gestured to all the ones who were with her last night "Couldn't believe it ourselves what happened with Hiro. Last night, Krei and I encountered Hiro and the bots, and they told us about the fight that had happened between him and Hana, and at the pool when Mikey pushed Hiro in the pool...well...let's say...we sort of finally understand more what is going on with Hiro…" Liv was stopped from talking as Hana stood up.
"Mom, It's my fault...actually, It's mine and Mikey's fault. On the Island, when Mikey and I went on a secret date, and everyone was looking for us, something must have happened to Hiro and...well, now he is suffering the consequences from our...secret activity." Hana was truthful to her mother. Last night she did some digging, and managed to put two and two together.
"The truth is, when Mikey pushed Hiro into the pool...we saw him...with...a tail! Like a mermaid tail to be specific." Krei dropped the harsh truth on Cass. "Wha…"
"He's right" all eyes were now on Orso Knox "He's right Cass, Hiro...he became a...mermaid of somesort...in the pool, and went human back when he was dry again."
"Huh…" Cass just stared at Orso and Krei. "There telling the truth, mom" Cass stared at her daughter "It's true mom, Hiro… he changed and had a tail, a...fish tail, and he...he…"
"So" Cass started, pointing with her finger "You're all saying that Hiro suddenly has a fish tail...like what, a mermaid tail." Everyone, except for Karmi and Megan, nodded their heads. Cass was not so happy. "You guys, I asked you to tell me the truth and you all lie to me now." Krei, Liv, Hana, Mikey, and Orso had shocked faces, they defended themself that it is indeed the truth and saw it with their own eyes.
Baymax and the mascots stand in and defend the five people, "Cass, it is true what they say'' Baymax then played a video on the wall, showing Hiro using his powers the day after they came back from the camping trip, his freezing ability and boiling water with his hands, to the day he metamorphosed for the first time in the bathroom, to the pool incident. Cass had wide eyes "W-wha...is this all...real?"
"Yes, It is all real" Baymax stopped the video. Karmi and Megan's jaws had dropped on the floor from amazement. Karmi was in a dilemma, one side was shocked, memories from the time that she was transformed into one of Di's monsters haunted her for months until she decided to go see Dr. Sopher. Remembering the pain of her bones and flesh changing inside her made her uneasy in her skin sometimes. But now she's getting better as she could feel her other side being excited, her curiosity for bio science resurfaced again, she wanted to take a blood sample and dissect it to understand this...mutation? Evolution? Whatever it is, she wanted to investigate it.
"Baymax, you knew about this? And you didn't tell me? And how long did you know this?" Cass asked Baymax, but the mascots answered instead "Yes mom, we all knew about this" Noodle gestured to himself and his ro-sibs, "We all knew about this for days now" Hyper Pothamus took over "And tried to help him accept his gift" Crushroom then step in "But he refused to acknowledge them, and kept denying he has magic powers" then Hangry took over "He tried to prove magic doesn't exist by reading books over medical conditions but had no success, and asked us to keep it a secret from everyone. That's the whole story." Baymax took the finishing line "I have advised Hiro to talk with someone, but he is stubborn and denies his powers. Last night, Hiro was in a state of bargaining, one of the stages of grieving." When Baymax was done, all the eyes were popping out of everyone's head and mouths dropped on the floor.
"But...How?...Who?...Why?...When?...What?...Where?" Cass was pulling her hair out. She wished Tadashi was here to help her out in this situation. He would know what to do.
"It appears that a strange mutation is the cause of Hiro's transformation. His DNA has changed to the point where no cure can undo the mutation. His bones are far stronger than normal human bones and are hollow, his senses are eleven times sharper than that of a normal human, his brain activity are ten times more active than of a normal human, and the evolution of his body is still evolving. This also influences his behavior towards others as well as grieving." When Baymax is done, Hana starts to understand why Hiro was like that to her.
Cass just stood there, mouth gaped open. Man, did she really wish Tasashi was here to help her. Cass sits down on her bed, bent forward and holding her head in her hands "I failed as a mother, didn't I?" She asked.
Hana her eyes widened "What, no, you did not mom" she went to sit next to her mom "You did not fail us, you're an amazing mother." and hugged her mom. "If any, It's mine and Mikey's fault for what happened to Hiro."
"It is also mine and Krei's fault as well" Cass and Hana looked up to Liv and Krei "We should have checked on Hiro first before we went to look for the rest on the camping trip."
"Mm, thank you sweetie, and I don't blame any of you guys." as she hugged her daughter back "But why didn't Hiro tell us? He knows he can tell us everything?"
"I don't know, but I can understand him a little bit. When I was grieving over Tadashi's death, I hid for everyone that I stuffed myself full with food in the bathroom. Or the time I'd secretly bought drugs and promised never to drag you guys into it. I think Hiro is doing the same stuff as I did back then." Hana said understandingly.
"But...how do we help him?" Cass stared at every single one in the room. Nobody said anything. Mikey was scratching the back of his head awkwardly. Megan looked at the floor. Karmi felt nervous, she wanted to say something, but seeing that the room was quiet, she decided to keep her mouth shut.
Krei took a step forward "Cass, I don't know what to think of all this, but I will do my best to help Hiro out. I feel also responsible for what happened to Hiro."
"Me too!" Liv stood next to Krei. "I will do my best to help Hiro out too. Even if it's incurable. I am also responsible as much as Krei, Hana, and Mikey are."
"Me too, mom. I will help too, I promise." Hana said to her mother.
Cass was smiling at the three of them. "Thank you guys...sniff." and she hugged Krei and Liv as if to say 'thank you'.
