The Last of Avalon

Summary: For years, Merlin had been trapped within the Tower of Avalon, only able to watch the human realm. "This is even easier than I thought," I couldn't help but murmur as I held the beginner's book in my hand, feeling the magical energy coursing through my body.

After getting some sleep, I picked up the book and read through it. It was actually surprisingly easy to understand, giving a good introduction to magic. Golden Dawn, it seemed, focused on 'modern' magic, a system developed by Merlin. It used the concepts of devil magic as its base, but instead of using raw power to forcibly change the world, it used calculations in order to 'nudge' the world in the right direction.

Though that was only the introduction, the first chapter then explained how to access magical energy.

I won't go too deep into details, but it basically boiled down to focus and willpower. The book also suggested that beginners use a mental trigger in order to try and access your energy to begin with.

Not wanting to make any mistakes, I used the suggested mental trigger: the mental image of a balloon filling up with water.

I'd then immediately felt surprised as the magical energy began to course through my body, as if I'd done it hundreds of times before. I was confused at first but rationalised that awakening my Sacred Gear must have given me some kind of shortcut to accessing my magical energy, it was the only reason that made sense- to me at least.

And speaking of my Sacred Gear, since I'd summoned it once, I was able to summon it again according to my will. And just like I vaguely remembered the Fallen saying, it was just a Twice Critical. Which I'd take in all honesty, an instant doubling of my strength in exchange for some stamina? Underrated, and honestly a really good Sacred Gear, I don't know why people seemed to look down on it so much.

I'd take Twice Critical over most other 'minor' Sacred Gears, like Heracles's Variant Detonation, or Flame Shake. Both Sacred Gears could be reproduced with magic, Twice Critical was not so easy to reproduce.

Hm… Come to think of it, Twice Critical was like a discounted Boosted Gear. Was it possible there was a discounted variant of Divine Dividing out there? Decisive Divider, or something?

Something to potentially look into when I had the time.

I let out a sigh as I closed the book for now, leaning back in my seat, staring at the ceiling.

I'd already made my choice, and I could use magic now, so I thought about calling Irene via the spell seal on the table… However, I decided against it. Firstly, because I said I'd wanted to think about it, and if I called her right away then it might annoy her that I decided so quickly.

My second reason was because we'd met Erza earlier, and I'd seen that Irene had been looking forward to spending some time with her daughter. And I didn't wanna be the asshole who was going to interrupt their family time just to tell Irene something that might take a decent amount of time to file and deal with.

My third reason was because I knew that once the calming pill wore off, I'd have to face the reality of the loss of James and my normal life, and I wanted to shed my tears and cry for that before I called Irene.

I let out a yawn, slowly rubbing my eyes as I looked at the clock… It hadn't really been all that long, but I was tired. I supposed the stress of the day, even with the calming pill, was starting to affect me.

I slipped off my shirt and pants before I climbed into the bed and curled up, closing my eyes.

'Tomorrow is another day…' I thought to myself before I sat up and covered my face. "… That's a fucking FNAF quote, now I'm never gonna be able to sleep."

Stupid overactive, irrational imagination.

~~The Last of Avalon~~

"Well, I wasn't expecting for you to decide to have joined Golden Dawn already," Irene told me as we sat at the table of my temporary room, an English breakfast lay out in front of us. "Though I will say, I am most pleased that you agreed without much need for convincing."

"Yeah, well…" I was pointedly not making eye contact with her, or I would get flustered. "It was really a no brainer."

After waking up, a bit later in the day, around 10-11, I decided to contact Irene with the seal to inform her that I'd decided to join Golden Dawn, though only after I'd made sure to cry all the tears I could for James and his family, spending a good 30 minutes just doing nothing but crying.

After I calmed down, I forced myself to go to the kitchen and start cooking breakfast, but then thought it'd be rude if I was eating when Irene arrived and she had nothing, so I ended up cooking more so she could also eat with me.

Luckily, or unluckily, it seemed she'd had to skip breakfast that day, so she had no complaints to eating with me.

Oh, and for those wondering why I wasn't looking in her eyes, it was because the 'chill pill' had worn off, and I was now remembering all the times in my first life that I fapped to Irene and it was hard to look at her knowing that… Also, I didn't particularly want to look into her eyes while mine were still red from crying. She definitely noticed but she didn't point it out or comment on it, which I was grateful for.

"Well, for all I knew, you could be one of those idiots who thought having a Sacred Gear and knowing you had magical potential would be enough for you to get by on your own," she told me. "… It's sadly more common than you think, so much potential squandered and wasted because of arrogance."

"Well, I'll do my best to keep to my humble beginnings," he told her. "I am an orphan, after all, and I was introduced to the world in a very violent way. No, I know that I'm only alive right now due to a string of coincidences and luck… And I'd rather not need to rely on those to keep living."

"Rational, excellent choice," she smiled, before she lifted the scrambled eggs to her mouth and took a bite. She blinked in surprise, looking down at the food. "Hm, much better than I was expecting. Nothing on the chef's here, but rather good. Not at all what I'd expect from an orphan who likely hadn't needed to cook before."

"I used to go to my friend's house a lot," I told her. "I knew one day I'd live alone, so I'd always ask his mom if I could watch while she cooked dinner. Eventually, she let me into the kitchen to help when I asked…" I closed my eyes, feeling sorrow coursing through me. "I'll always treasure those times."

She only nodded, not daring to try and tell me that, 'it would be okay.' It would never be okay that my friend and his family had died to some selfish crow, but in time I hoped I'd heal.

I shook my head. "So, um, anyway," I decided to move along the conversation. "How do magical schools work exactly? Er, organisations in this case."

"Pretty much the same as a normal school," she informed me, taking another bite of her food. "You'll be given a list of potential 'specialities,' so to speak, along with some practical sessions in the training area so you can work on your magic with supervision. Of course, you can also just take the mathematics and occasional science course, and just study at your own pace, in your own time. Of course, if you don't show results, then you'll lose your points and thus it will be much harder to live day to day, so I do recommend taking some courses and doing your best to show results."

"I see," I nodded. "And uh, how does rooming work?"

"Each student shares a dorm with one person," she explained. "You have two separate rooms, a kitchen, and one bathroom, along with a small living space. It's up to the people rooming how to deal with your situation, but if things get to be too bothersome or extreme, it's expected you bring it to a teacher, or talk it out like adults."

"So don't be a spoiled brat, got it," I nodded my understanding, making her laugh lightly at how I phrased it.

"Yes, that's a good way of summing it up," she nodded, amused. "Once we're done here, I'll take you to get properly registered. Your magical signature will also be registered so that you'll be able to purchase food and enter your assigned dorm room."

The rest of breakfast was a pleasant affair. I went to do the dishes, but she simply waved her hand, and the dishes began to float over to the sink and wash themselves.

"… Convenient."

"Quite."

With that, the two of us left the guest room, and she led me down the halls. As we walked, she explained to me various class options and how they were separated.

There were Runes, which focused on magics from the old ages, a language that was primordial in nature. I did ask why they taught that if the school focused on 'modern' magic, but she just explained that to neglect all aspects of magic would be stupid on their part.

There was Alchemy, which focused on the transmutation of materials, and occasionally making some potions. They'd been trying to make potions that could restore vitality and mana pools, but they'd had no luck in doing so as the potions relied on the drinker's own magic to work, so restoring their mana pools wouldn't work, and you'd need a good amount of magic to heal from a fatal injury. Magic you probably wouldn't have if you were in a fight that gave you the injury.

There was curses, charms, divination, elemental magics, and so on and so forth.

As we walked, the two of us discussed what courses would be best for me. She said that it would be for the best I take the beginner course to magic, and that it was boring, but it was probably for the best I learn all the basics before jumping in. Of course, I didn't have to, but she recommended it.

I agreed without hesitation. I was way out of my depth after all, and any advice she could give was advice that I would gladly listen to.

Soon enough, we arrived at the administration office, where we filled out the papers. Name, age, sex, blood type, and so on were all filled out.

"Right, that's all done," she nodded, turning to me. "Now, it's time you have to make a choice. Would you like the memories modified to say you were adopted? Or that you never existed in the first place?"

That was perhaps the hardest question I'd been asked since I got here.

"How will my legal identity work if I don't exist?" I couldn't help but ask.

"We'll make modifications to your paperwork to make it out that you've always been part of a family, and thus were never in that orphanage, went to that town, or school," she explained. "We have people that can modify memories in large groups to make sure that everything will line up if inspectors start doing backgrounds checks. On top of that, a spell will be added so that people won't prod too deeply into the documents, just thinking 'yes, this is right,' before moving on."

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "… Please make it so I never existed there."

"As you wish."

Some of you may be thinking I'm crazy for doing that, but I had my reasons.

My first reason was pretty simple, protection. Mana Burst, from what I'd been told, was a lost skill. For it to re-emerge in me must have meant something was in my bloodline that allowed for it, as far as I could figure. I could be wrong, in fact I was it was highly likely that I was, but I couldn't take that risk. It was better they forgot about me, forgot that Harrison Blacksteel existed for their own sakes in case unsavoury people started snooping.

My second reason was for my own protection too. If it was made out that Harrison Blacksteel had never been in that place, it would make it harder for people to trace me and hunt me down if they didn't like me for some reason.

There were some other reasons, but they were mostly minor, so I wasn't going to get into it.

Thankfully, Irene just agreed to my request without prying. No pushing at all, just a simple 'if that's what you want,' and no further questions.

I appreciated that small kindness on her part.

"Now then," she led me to another area, where a crystal was sitting on a pedestal. "This is the crystal we use as a middle man to record magical signatures. Just place your hand on it and channel a bit of your magic, and it will record your magic signature, and then you will be assigned a room depending on who has the most compatible magic signature with your own."

"Compatible?" I questioned.

"Those with compatible magical signatures are more likely to become friends," she explained to me. "It's not so much a personality test, and it's hard to explain. Just think of it as you're more likely to be friends with someone who your magic is compatible with, it's to make sure there are less likely to be issues with rooming."

I hesitated but, ultimately, I didn't really have a choice h, ere. Besides, I'd already decided to join Golden Dawn, so I should just get it over with.

I placed my left hand on the crystal, and closed my eyes, channelling my magic into the crystal. I felt it warm up under my touch, a gentle heat spreading through my body.

I slowly opened my eyes, seeing the crystal had lit up, glowing with royal blue and golden lights, streaks of red soaring across, before the light died down.

My gaze turned to Irene, who just nodded as if nothing was wrong. "Uh, what was with the light?"

"The orb lights up in a myriad of colours depending on your magical talents," she told me. "Red are the signs of fire or dragons; it was hard to tell since they were brief. Likely dragons given your Twice Critical. The gold is a sign of holy energies, while that shade of blue… I've not seen anything like it, but it's likely related to your Mana Burst."

She led me to another area, where I was handed a card with my face on it and basic information. "This card acts as your identification, in both the mundane and supernatural. If you look on the back, you'll find your room number, and the amount of points you have."

I flipped the card over, staring at the numbers on the back.

839

100,000

"One point is equal to £1," she explained to me. "That's just the starting amount, you'll be paid 3000 points a month depending on your merits at school. If you do well, you'll receive more points to do with as you wish. If you channel some magic into the card, you'll also be shown a live map of the school along with where to go to reach any of your assigned classes. It'll also help you find your dorm room or any other places you want to go, you just need to put a bit of focus on where it is you want to go."

"Got it," I nodded.

"Excellent!" She clapped her hands. "Now, let's go to the shopping area to pick you up a suitcase, and some books and clothing, and then I'll take you to your dorm room so you can settle in and get to know your new roommate."

"Right," I nodded as she began to lead the way. "Uh, by the way, are there any people you would recommend avoiding?"

"Wanting to avoid the bad apples, I see," she smirked in amusement. "Well, I'm not sure about students given they always do their best to act like angels around us… But if you want a teacher you'll want to avoid getting on the bad side of, it will have to be Evangeline."

"Evangeline?" I prodded.

"Evangeline A.K. McDowell," she clarified, and I was glad she wasn't looking so she didn't see my eyes widen in shock. "She's a True Ancestor Vampire, and one of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors, number 26 in case you were wondering."

Was this for real? Evangeline A.K. McDowell!? As in from Magical Sensei Negima!? And a Dead Apostle Ancestor!?

As far as I was aware, 'Tsukihime' and 'Fate' worlds were separate universes. Where in Fate Worlds Heroic Spirits could be summoned as servants, but in Tsukihime worlds the idea of summoning Heroic Spirits is laughable. While the figures who were Dead Apostles did exist in the Fate World, the title of Dead Apostle Ancestors was non-existent unlike in Tsukihime where they were central to the story.

That meant, if I wasn't wrong, this world I was in had elements of DxD, Fate, Harry Potter, Tsukihime, Fairy Tail, Negima, and potentially more!

Honestly, at this point it wouldn't surprise me at this point if the missing anime were somehow present, like One Piece, Bleach and so on.

"Dead Apostle Ancestor?" I asked her. "What's that?"

"It will be explained in your beginner classes," she re-assured me. "I'll just summarise for now, they're essentially 27 extremely powerful beings that are numbered in order of their strength or their 'threat' to humanity, it's not truly clear which one, or if there even is an actual order. You can basically just think of them as super vampires if that helps."

"Uh, got it," I nodded at her words, glad that I was successfully able to hide my panic at learning the dead apostles were a thing in this world… God, I could not catch a fucking break.

"You'll also want to avoid getting on my bad side," she offered me an amused smirk. "But if there was one other teacher, you'll want to try not annoying…" She looked considerate. "I suppose it would have to be Ultear Milkovitch. She teaches Chronomancy and uses it to incredible effect."

"Chronomancy is… Time, right?"

"Yes, the manipulation of Time. It's not absolute, and it has its weaknesses, but she's one of the few Chronomancers active in the world and teaches here. She is powerful, and you definitely don't want to make an enemy out of her if you can help it. Besides that, I can't truly think of any teaches you should excessively worry about."

"Got it, thank you," I nodded. "So, um, where do we go first?"

"First a suitcase with an undetectable extension charm and a host of other goodies," she told me. "And then we'll get you some clothes. Come along now."

~~The Last of Avalon~~

The suitcase took little to no time to get with the enchantments that Irene suggested. It was a bit pricey, around 500 points- which may not sound like much when I had 100,000, but things like that added up- though I considered it worth it for the security it would provide for me, as well as being attuned to my magic signature so I'd be able to 'summon' it with some practise.

After that, we went clothes shopping since all I had were the few clothes I had at the orphanage. We didn't buy much, just 4 shirts, 2 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 formal pants, 2 button up shirts, a blazer, 3 different ties, two pairs of sneakers, one pair of sandals, and one pair of formal shoes.

Well, okay, maybe it was a bit, but that was basically just the bare minimum in order to be pretty much prepared for most situations, so I didn't complain even if it cost a few points rather abruptly to get everything.

With that done, we made one last stop… To get me a Wand.

"Why do I need a wand?" I asked in confusion.

"Wands help with learning how to channel magic into spells rather than just reinforcing your body," she explained. "They also empower your spells to begin with, giving you a feel for what kind of level you want to reach with your magic someday, and just in general they're good if your spell needs a bit more 'oomph' to it. Particularly strong magical practitioners- like me- will move onto more unique foci that are better suited for our fighting style. I, for example, use a staff, while Ultear uses a crystal ball, and I even knew someone who used a set of poker cards."

"Understood," I gave a sharp nod to show that I understood what she meant. Basically, Wands were for Level 1s, and when you were in the higher levels you got your staves. Simple enough.

"Perfect… And here we are," she nodded as we arrived.

Medea's Enchanted Artifacts

"Medea?" I questioned. "As in Medea of Colchis?"

"Oh, you know that legend?"

I nodded. "I would read up on myths and stuff since they seemed kinda cool in school, so I know her story."

"Good, that will serve you well in the future," she smiled. "This is not the same Medea, rather a reincarnation."

"Reincarnation is real?"

She pursed her lips. "You'll learn more about it later, this isn't really the time to get into it. Come along now."

The two of us headed inside, and I looked around.

Have you ever seen Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes in the sixth movie? The inside gave me vibes from that, with a bunch of interesting items from prank items to practical items, and even some board games like Wizard's Chess.

Irene made her way over to a young woman with mid-length blue hair in a long khaki coloured skirt with brown boots, a black shirt, and a blue jacket. "Medea."

The woman looked back and smiled, and I noticed her pointed ears… She really did look like Medea from the Fate Series…

'Shit, my elf fetish is going to act up around her…'

"Irene, darling, it's been too long!" She smiled merrily. "What are you here for?"

"I have a newbie here who's in need of a wand," she explained to Medea, who immediately turned her gaze to me.

"Oh my, he's a cute one," she lifted a hand to her mouth, giggling softly. "What beautiful blue eyes and lovely blonde hair! He'll grow into quite the heart breaker when he's older!"

I felt a blush rise to my cheeks and looked down. "Th- thank you, Miss…"

"Oh my, and he's shy too!" Medea gave an impish smile. "Why, if I were a few years younger…" She giggled.

"Medea, really," Irene rolled her eyes, smiling in amusement. "Come on, we should get his wand and then I need to take him to settle into his dorm and meet his new roommate."

"Of course, of course," she hummed. "Jill, please handle the store for a bit! Someone's come in for a wand!"

"Got it boss!" Another voice called from somewhere else in the store.

"This way," Medea said, leading Irene and I through a door that led to a room filled with thin boxes that were slid into walls. "Welcome to the Room of Choosing, where you will find your partner," she told me.

I looked around slowly, awestruck by the sheer number of wands. Much more organised than I remembered Ollivander being in the movie, given his wands were strewn about in boxes everywhere and piling up high.

"I'm glad you like it," the reincarnate smiled at me. "Much more organised than Ollivander is in Diagon Alley... Honestly, would it kill that man to clean up a bit?"

"Focus," Irene told her.

"Right, right," Medea nodded. "Well then, let's start with this…" She pulled a box out the wall, opening it up and revealing a wand. "Willow and Unicorn Hair, 11 and one-sixteenth inches, springy!"

I hesitated before I reached out and grabbed the wand.

Immediately, Medea shook her head. "No, no, not for you," she said, and I quickly put the wand back in the box. She slid it into the wall and took out another. "How about this? Ash and Phoenix Feather, 12 and three-quarter inches, nice and supple!"

I grabbed the wand, but immediately Medea told me it wasn't for me again, and the process began again.

I went through a couple dozen wands, several standing out in my mind.

Oak and Phoenix Feather, Hazel and Unicorn Hair, Apple and Tengu Feather, SilverFir and Cerberus Blood, and so many more combinations I couldn't even hope to keep up with.

"Hm… You are a tricky customer," Medea mused, before she came upon one box and slid it out, bringing it over. "Let's try this one. I didn't make this wand; I obtained it through some unusual circumstances…"

The box was opened, and I stared at the wand. Based on the wood colouring- and the fact I'd seen several of them by now- I knew that I was looking at a wand made of willow. Differing slightly from others, this wand had a bit more of a stylised handle that was slightly curved like it hooked around the hand slightly, and the wood itself was carved to look like scales.

"Willow and Dragon Heartstring," she told me. "Thirteen and two-third inches, unyielding."

I slowly reached out and curled my fingers around the wand, lifting it out of the box.

Instantly, I felt a warmth surge through my body, particularly in my left arm and chest. The wand unleashed a spray of golden sparks, and I could have sworn that- for just a moment- I heard a roar echoing from somewhere far away.

"Finally!" Medea clapped. "Another wand with its partner, always a pleasure to see! I thought I'd never sell this wand!"

"You mentioned you obtained it through unusual circumstances," Irene spoke up. "What were they?"

"I was at a meeting for wand makers about ten or so years ago," Medea began her little tale. "We were discussing how business was going, new bits of gossip, things like that, when Gregorovitch mentioned a wand that he'd been unable to sell for the longest time. He explained how he it was his grandfather who forged it. His grandfather obtained the heartstring from an incredibly powerful dragon in the aftermath of a great battle, barely managing to escape with the heartstring and his life. He created the wand hoping it would surpass the fabled Elder Wand, but it never worked as he'd intended. We were all curious, so we decided to have some fun and were all a bit drunk, so we decided to play for the wand in a game of poker. I managed to win, and the wand has been in my shop ever since."

"That's more amusing than unusual, I'd say," Irene smirked. "Thank you for the help though, Medea. Always lovely to see someone being paired with their wand."

"Not a problem at all," Medea smiled. "That'll be 70 points, 80 if you want a kit to help you keep it properly cleaned."

Now 80 points poorer, we thanked Medea and left the shop, with me pulling my suitcase along behind us.

Given it was around 1PM, we decided to stop by the cafeteria for lunch and- given I'd spend a decent amount today- she was kind enough to pay for us both to have lunch.

It was half-way through the meal that Erza approached and asked if she could eat with us.

"Oh, go ahead," I told her. "I mean, if Irene doesn't mind."

"Not at all," she smiled at her daughter. "Please, sit."

Erza smiled. "Thank you," she took a seat, placing her hand on the desk as her lunch- a burger and fries- appeared in front of her. She lifted a fry and ate it. "So, what were you doing today?"

"Well, Mr Blacksteel here decided to join the Golden Dawn, so I've been helping him collect his supplies."

"Oh, that's wonderful!" She clapped and smiled. "What kind of wand did he get?"

I opened my mouth to answer, but Irene cut me off. "Erza!" She scolded. "You know you shouldn't ask personal questions like that."

Erza's face turned to look a bit mortified. "Oh, I'm sorry," she bowed her head to me quickly.

"No, no, it's fine," I hurried to tell her. "Um, what's so personal about telling her about my wand?"

"A wand can tell you a lot about a person," Irene explained to me. "Let's say… Hazel and Phoenix Feather, for example. Hazel is a wood that symbolises Creativity, Purity, and Honesty. Due to how human nature simply is, Hazel wands are very picky about their owners, often looking for someone 'pure of heart' who is very honest. Phoenix Feather, on the other hand, is just as picky due to the creature it comes from being the most independent and detached in the world. Phoenix Feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they take longer to show it than most other cores do. In exceptional circumstances, the wand can even act of its own accord. I won't get into wand length and extra details like nice and supple, or the average length for certain wand materials."

"So, like, wands are very personal then?" I questioned.

"Yes," Irene nodded. "Erza should have known better than to ask that."

"It's fine, really," I told her. "I didn't know, and she was just a bit excited. No harm done."

"Thank you," Erza said, looking relieved. "So, are you going to join any guilds?"

"Guilds?" I questioned.

"I haven't explained that to him yet," Irene supplied to her daughter. "You can go ahead and do so if you want."

Erza smiled. "Well, Guilds are sort of like school clubs… It's a bit hard to explain, but guilds are basically just individual groups that take on part-time work via job requests and get paid in points for their work. It could be anything from cleaning someone else's dorm room, to breaking down the enchantments on artifacts, to even some 'monster' hunting quests. The guilds aren't required, but it's nice to be able to have a place to hang out with friends, and even teachers can join. I'm a member of the Fairy Tail guild."

"Meanwhile, I'm a member of the Spriggan guild," Irene supplied. "Though my cute daughter's really been trying to push for me to join the Fairy Tail guild."

Erza blushed. "I- I just want to spend more time with you, mum."

"I know sweetie," Irene smiled and pat her cheek. "But I owe a lot to Zakiyah, so I have no intentions of leaving Spriggan for the foreseeable future."

I felt a blush rise to my cheeks as I saw just how cute Erza was when she pouted, while Irene just giggled and stroked her hair.

We chatted for just a bit longer before we finished our meals, and Irene led the way to my dorm room.

I took a breath as I stood outside of my dorm room, 839. "Thank you for your help today, Miss Belserion."

"My pleasure," she told me. "You'll start your classes on Monday, so please take your time to settle in." She gave me a polite smile before she turned and walked away.

I shifted my attention back to the door. I hesitated for only a moment before I reached out and channelled by magic into the doorknob before twisting.

The door opened without resistance, and I made my way in, suitcase trailing behind me.

The first thing I noticed was that the dorm was a bit messy. Clothing was strewn about the room, shirts, socks, shoes. Not enough to be considered excessively dirty, it would take all of 5 minutes to pick up everything and get it ready for washing, but it was still something of note.

There were also dishes in the sink that looked a bit old. Again, not so much that you could call it messy, but enough that it was noticeable.

'I guess my roommate is a bit of a slob,' I thought to myself as I walked on in.

The dorm room itself looked more like a small apartment, with a kitchen connected to the living room, and a hallway that likely led to the bedroom and the bathroom.

"Uh, hello?" I called out. "Is anyone here? I'm, uh, your new roommate!"

Instantly I heard some loud sounds from down the hall to a bedroom, and I whirled in surprise. I just stood there, uncomfortable and a bit nervous, before the door slowly opened and my roommate came out.

My breath was taken away.

My roommate was a young girl maybe a year younger than me, with shoulder-length blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes. She was pretty short too, I was about average for my height at around 5'1, while she was below 5', maybe around 4'7 at a guess.

She was wearing a sorceress-like dress, with a blue hat bearing yellow stars on it and a black bow, and a matching cape with pink flowers and a white interior.

She looked a bit messy, a warm and embarrassed blush on her cheeks that showed she'd clearly gotten dressed in a hurry and was mortified that I'd seen her clothes strewn about and now was aware that she was a bit of a messy person.

Once again though, I recognised her from my past knowledge, feeling my heart thumping hard in my chest as I looked at her embarrassed attempt at a smile.

"H- hey," I said, a stutter in my voice from how caught off guard I was. "I- I'm Harrison Blacksteel, your new roommate. J- just call me Harry."

She cleared her throat. "N- nice to meet you Harry," she replied with a stutter in her own voice but took a breath and collected herself. "My name is Le Fay Pendragon; I hope that we're able to get along."

'Oh boy… These next few years are gonna be long…'

Now, to answer reviews.

DTSlade says: "So why can't Merlin just find him in the first school she searches? Why must he go on his own adventure?"

Simply because I want to give Harry a chance to grow outside of Merlin's influence and be his own person, since Merlin would be more likely to try and raise him into being the Arthur she knew, rather than the person he wants to be.

UoDuh says: "Just curious, have you ever thought of posting on a discord server? That would help with the toxicity problem since there are no Guests and if you don't like someone then you can kick them out? Just a thought because I REALLY liked your DanMachi FF (both old and new)."

I have thought about it, but I don't really have the patience to run a discord server and answer people's questions and such, it just would be very stressful for me and I wouldn't want to get involved in it. Though it would be nice to use to get more active feedback from viewers and get some more helpful ideas, so I'll give it some more thought. If enough people request it, then I'll make one.

UchihaJin says: "Is he going to help the queen of the land of shadows?"

Almost certainly yes, purely because I adore Scathach and while Merlin is a good teacher for magic, you know that Arthur picked up most of his combat skills from his foster family. For that reason, I think an arc together with Scathach would do wonders for Harry's growth.

For those wondering why Merlin is having such trouble finding Harry, it's- again- because I want Harry to have room to grow outside of Merlin to be his own person rather than the person Merlin would subconsciously try to make him become. While Harry is Arthur's reincarnate, his soul is also that of an Isekai'd person, so he wouldn't be able to become 'Arthur' no matter how badly Merlin tried. Even if he is Arthur's reincarnate, at the end of the day he is Harry.

For those wondering about the in-story reason why Merlin cannot find him, I'll explain how her specific form of Clairvoyance works. Merlin's Clairvoyance is tricky in how it works, as it works for remote viewings and allows her to peer into the future and past. However, her Clairvoyance was 'cursed' as a punishment from the Fae after she failed to act to save Arthur from Camlann, and as a result she is no longer able to look into people's specific futures, and she must know the person's current location- or at least a rough area- in order to look into their past, hence why she's unable to look into Harry's past to learn who took him and where he is, because she doesn't know where he is. As a result, she now has to look in all the places for that tedious several year process all over again, starting with the devils since they are the most obvious choice.

And for those asking why Merlin didn't just teleport to his location or 'keep a lock' on his magic, she's gotten so used to travelling the 'normal' way, she didn't consider teleporting, a simple slip of the mind. And keeping a lock on his magic requires a bit of work on her part, and she didn't think he'd be taken away before she could reach him, and thus lost track of him.

I bring this up here because I'm probably not going to address this in the actual fanfic, and some people want answers. I know some people won't like this explanation, but this is the explanation you are getting.

And for those curious about New Avalon, it will come up later, but I'll just summarise. Basically, normal Avalon is an idealised place for humans and Fae together. But 'New Avalon' is made specifically for Fae, and idealised realm for only them, no humans.

I finished this chapter on the Saturday before I posted it, so Chapter 4 has either only just gotten started or I haven't started it at all yet. Please don't pester me for updates, they will come when I find the energy to do them. I am also trying to continue other stories, though my main focus is on The Last of Avalon.

So, I'll see you all later.
