Michael stared at the human front of him with nothing but contempt. This was the human that tried to murder his brother. He was going to make her suffer for that. Truthfully, he had actually decided not to do this. After thinking about it for a day or so, he had decided that it wasn't worth incurring his father's anger, especially for a brother he could barely stand most days. He was still pissed at the human's audacity, but he decided to let his father handle it. That was until he overheard Amenadiel and Azrael talking. It was then that he learned this woman wasn't just some run-of-the-mill human for his brother. She wasn't even just some human he had a fling with. He loved her and she'd used that love against him. He'd also overheard that Samael was so depressed by what she'd done to him that their father was afraid to leave him alone. That infuriated Michael. That was enough for him to risk punishment.
Chloe regarded the man in front of her nervously. She didn't know who he was, other than he was somehow related to Lucifer, probably his twin. Lucifer had never mentioned a twin, but she didn't know who else he could be. "W…Who are you?"
Michael looked the woman up and down. "I don't get it."
"What?" Chloe asked in confusion.
"I don't get what my brother sees in you. I mean, you're not much to look at. Yet somehow he fell for you to the point where it almost destroyed him," Michael said. He would never understand how his brother could fall so hard for a human. They were a dime a dozen. There was nothing special about them.
Chloe glared at him, but said nothing. She was extremely insulted, but she decided it was best not to speak right now. She had no idea what he intended to do, and she had no chance of getting away from him since she physically couldn't leave her house.
"I guess it doesn't matter. Here's what I really want to know. What makes an insignificant human like you think you have the right to even look in my brothers direction, let alone try to murder him?" Michael asked with a snarl.
Chloe knew she had to say something, but she was kind of afraid to. She'd already pissed off God by not keeping her mouth shut. She realized too late that it was probably dumb to say half things she did to him. She would prefer not to do that again. "I... I was trying to protect the world. I thought it was what God wanted."
Michael laughed loudly at her. "Then you're dumber than I thought. Lucifer is our father's favorite son." It had always been like that and always would be, much to Michael's dismay. Amenadiel might think he was the favorite due to some stupid book and a necklace, but it would always be Samael.
"I didn't know. I thought he wanted the Devil in Hell," Chloe said.
"Even if he did want that, what makes you think he would need some stupid human like you to get it done? Use your brain, Lady. He's God. If he wants something to happen, it happens," Michael said. That was something he never got even with Amenadiel. Amenadiel got it into his head that he had to put their brother back in Hell because it was what their father wanted, but if he truly wanted that, he could've done it himself with much less difficulty. It was clear as day to Michael that for whatever reason, their father didn't want Samael in Hell.
"Who are you?" Chloe asked again.
"My name is Michael," he said.
"Th… The archangel Michael?" Chloe asked in disbelief.
Michael only smirked in response.
"You're the one that cast Lucifer into Hell," Chloe said in awe.
"No. You humans come up with the weirdest things. I honestly have no idea where you people got that idea. I told you, if my father wanted Lucifer in Hell, he'd put him there himself. Well, there was a time when he did want him there, so he put him there. He popped him right down onto his thrown. Of course, it seems he no longer wants him there," Michael said with a sneer.
Chloe got the impression that Michael didn't like his brother much. Maybe she could use that to her advantage. "You don't seem to like Lucifer much."
Michael narrowed his eyes at her. He knew what she was doing. "No, I don't, and he doesn't like me. We torment each other. It's our right. It isn't yours! You are nothing but a worthless human. You have no right to lay a hand against my brother!"
Chloe flinched at the angry, powerful tone. Her tactic had had the opposite effect to what she was hoping. "I… I'm sorry."
"No, you're not. You think I can't tell that you're lying. I've been lying long before your race was ever even thought about. You're only sorry that what you did is going to cost you. And it's going to cost you a lot. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do much to you. I'm not allowed to kill a human, and I don't have a lot of time anyway, so I'll have to make things brief. But hopefully, I'll get a front row seat when my father makes an example of you," Michael said.
Neither noticed as Trixie's door opened and she peered out of it. She saw her mom there with Lucifer. At least it looked like Lucifer, but he seemed weird to Trixie. He was dressed strange. He didn't have on one of his nice suits, like he usually did. He also looked really angry, and her mom looked scared.
Chloe was terrified at the prospect of what was going to happen to her, but she refused to show it. At this point, she had nothing to lose anyway. "I only did what I thought was necessary to protect the world. Lucifer is the Devil. He's a threat to humanity."
Michael laughed. "You don't know how ludicrous that is. My brother actually fought for you people. Our father is more pissed than I've ever seen. He intends to strip Humanity of its free Will, but my brother is actually against it. Isn't that hilarious. Humanity has done nothing but vilify him. You personally tried to kill him, but he's still fighting for you people. Of course, that makes him a complete idiot, but I'm sure you can see my point."
"That's not true!" Trixie said when she heard what Lucifer's brother said. She'd figured it out. This wasn't Lucifer. He'd just said he was Lucifer's brother, so that meant they were twins. The man also said that her mom tried to hurt Lucifer, but she knew that couldn't be true. Her mom would never hurt anyone, especially Lucifer.
Chloe immediately whipped her head around to look at her daughter. "Trixie, go back to your room, okay? I'll explain what's going on later."
"You actually have a kid? My condolences to her," Michael said.
"Who are you? Where's Lucifer?" Trixie asked. She wanted to talk to him. He'd tell her that his brother was lying and that her mother would never hurt him.
"He went home. It became clear he wasn't safe here" Michael answered before glancing at the traitorous human standing a few feet away.
"Don't talk to my daughter!" Chloe told him.
"He's in Hell?" Trixie asked in horror. She knew the truth about Lucifer. She always had. He told her he was the Devil, so it had to be true.
Michael raised his eyebrow at the child. "Wow. It's not easy to shock me, kid. Congratulations."
"Trixie, you knew the truth about Lucifer?" Chloe asked in disbelief.
"Of course. Lucifer always said he was the Devil. He doesn't lie. Is he in Hell?" Trixie asked again.
"No, he's in Heaven. Tell me, kid, are you afraid of Lucifer?" Michael asked as he stepped towards the child.
"Get away from my daughter!" Chloe yelled.
"No. That's stupid. There's nothing scary about Lucifer," Chloe said as if the very idea of it was stupid.
"Do you hate him because he's the Devil?" Michael asked.
"No. Lucifer's awesome. All those stories are dumb."
Michael laughed as he stepped closer. "Isn't that interesting."
"I said, get away from her," Chloe said before lunging for her weapon, which was sitting on the kitchen counter. She immediately fired a shot off.
Michael immediately pushed the child a few feet away from him, just in case the bullet traveled through him to her. Normally, he wouldn't care enough to save a human from another human, but this was a child, one that was loyal to his brother when even her own mother wasn't
The bullet hit Michael in the shoulder. It didn't do any damage, obviously, but it did hurt for a minute. It was almost like a quick jolt.
Trixie immediately screamed when she heard the shot and backed up several feet.
"Are you stupid?!" Michael asked angrily before quickly advancing on the woman and snatching the weapon from her hand. "These things are unpredictable! You could've killed your own kid! I guess trying to murder my brother wasn't enough for you."
Chloe looked at her daughter in horror. She hadn't thought about the possibility of her daughter being hit by a stray bullet. She should've, given that she was a cop, but all she thought about was trying to get Michael away from her daughter. "Trixie, I'm sorry. Are you okay?"
"D… Did you try to hurt Lucifer?" Trixie asked, still shaken by what had just happened, but needing to know about Lucifer.
"It's complicated, Baby. Lucifer wasn't who he let us believe he was. He tricked us," Chloe said.
"No, he didn't. He always told us who he was."
"But he knew we didn't believe him," Chloe pointed out.
"I believed him. If you didn't then it's your fault, not his," Trixie said crying before running towards her bedroom.
Michael smirked once the kid was gone. "Well, it looks like I got what I came for, and I didn't even have to do much. Have fun with this mess. My father will handle the rest soon enough," he said. He should get back now. If he was lucky, he would make it back without his father ever knowing he was gone.
As if on cue, Michael heard his father's voice in his head moments after that thought left his mind, and he did not seem pleased.
'Michael, return home and report to my quarters immediately! Don't make me use force,' he said.
Michael sighed. There went that hope. However, after looking at the distress on the human woman's face, he decided it was worth the punishment he was about to receive and flew off.
