Chapter 2
A figure in a dark area approached a stone slab with glowing runes. Surrounding the figure were many others, all watching them with no emotion. The figure then bought its face close to the stone before it said a single word.
"Master? Can you hear my voice?"
In a house of cobblestone held by wooden supports, Quina watched Simon as he slept before Sophie walked in and knelt with her. Sophie was currently holding a rusted stave.
"I'm glad Simon is okay," Sophie exclaimed with relief. The wound on Simon's chest closed due to Quina's expertise in healing magic, leaving an odd scar in its place. The only other injury he had was that his right eye was blind with his eyelid swollen shut. Sophie cast her gaze to Quina, who wore a concerned expression.
"I don't think he is okay."
"What do you mean?" A new voice asked. The duo turned their gaze to see Adaro, the chief of Cassardis and Quina's father. Quina stood along with Sophie before they bowed.
"Father… I believe that it should not be said here." Quina said, Adaro nodded before the trio went out to the main hallway.
Simon's left eye opened before he sat up and cast his gaze on his surroundings.
"I'm in my uncle's house," Simon said before he cast his gaze to his chest, to see a scar. He slowly bought his hand to it before it suddenly glowed.
"IF YOU WERE TO FACE ME…" Simon yelped before he looked around the room.
'The Dragon?!' Simon thought. Not seeing the dragon, he slowly bought his hand back to the scar.
"ARM YOURSELF, FOR MY KIND DO NOT HEED THE TOOTHLESS." The voice cooley finished. Simon could only look on in shock before he cast his gaze to the wall to see a pair of rusted daggers and a rusted sword and shield, along with leather straps. Simon stood before he approached the weapons.
"His heart lies silent," Quina told her father. Sophie along with Adaro's eyes widened.
'He has no pulse but is still alive? He is not a zombie… what the hell is going on?' Sophie wondered, Adaro however spoke his concern.
"'Tis ill magick, mayhaps the work of some curse? You two, listen to me." The girls listened.
"The whole world has already gone mad for fear of this Dragon, won't no good come of this!" He explained with fear in his eyes. He then composed himself.
"I will go see to the others you two." He said with a nod, and the girls nodded back.
'The whole world? But dragons are common, why are they-' "Quina?" Quina turned her gaze to Sophie.
"... Does this world have a, uh, a name?" Quina looked confused before answering.
"Lestania, why?" Quina asked, but Sophie didn't answer.
'This isn't Four-Way? Then that means… that means I'm in a different world.' Sophie thought with shock. She quickly composed herself.
"No reason, I just never learned this world's name, sorry to ask." Sophie lied. Quina nodded before she turned her gaze, only to see Simon in a mended fisherman outfit with a rusted sword to his hip and shield to his left arm.
Sophie's eyes widened at the sight before briskly approaching him.
"Simon? What are you doing?" Sophie asked. Quina took a step forward.
"You should be abed," Quina told Simon, Simon shook his head.
"I'm fine, thank you for your concern though," Simon stated. Sophie spoke up.
"But, after what happened with the Dragon…"
"Not to worry Sophie, I'm doing fine, excuse me," Simon said before he began towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Sophie asked. Simon stopped before he turned.
"I'm going to slay the Dragon," Simon stated with determination, causing the girls to pale up.
"You can't do that! Do you remember what happened when you first tried to take the beast on?" Sophie tried to reason, however, Simon shook his head.
"I remember, however, this isn't about my pride, but I feel as though I have to," Simon answered. Sophie raised a brow before she sighed.
"If that's the case… then I'm coming with you," Sophie said. Simon's single eye widened.
"I don't think that's such a-" "There will be no debate!" Sophie exclaimed. Simon took a step back before he cast his gaze on Quina, however, Quina interjected.
"I agree with Sophie, if you are to slay the Wyrm, then she will help." Quina then pointed to Sophie's rusted staff in her right hand. Simon grimaced before he let out a defeated sigh.
"Alright," Simon said dejectedly before he went towards the door with Sophie close behind him.
"Wait before you leave…" Quina went to a different room and came back with some meat and two lanterns.
"Take these with you, the journey will be a long one I'm sure," Quina said as the duo took the supplies.
"Thank you cuz."
"Thank you, Quina." And the duo left the hut.
"Do you know where we are going?" Sophie asked as the Duo was walking on the dirt path outside of the village.
"We have to go to the enlistment corp to see if they have any leads on the Dragon," Simon explained as they kept walking. Sophie nodded in understanding.
"BACK AWAY YOU FOUL BEASTS!" A voice yelled out. Simon glanced at Sophie.
"Come on!" He yelled as they ran in the direction of the voice. The duo ran down the path until they saw a man with a massive bag get attacked by small humanoid beings with crimson skin, goat eyes, and jagged teeth. Simon instantly drew his sword as he went to the horde, Sophie however froze in place.
'G-g-goblins!' Even if their skin was the opposite color, Sophie still recognized them for what they were.
'Even in a different world, those beasts are here? What am I to do… I can't do anything!' Sophie was frozen as her grip tightened on the rusted staff.
'Useless, useless, useless, USELESS!' "SOPHIE…" Sophie's eyes widened as she looked at Simon.
"... I need your help!"
A goblin leaped at Simon, who quickly brought his shield up, causing the beast to bounce and land on his feet. Simon then swung his sword three times, knocking the beast over before stabbing and killing it. He got back in a fighting position as he looked at the remaining goblins.
'Only two left… why isn't Sophie doing anything?' Simon set his gaze on Sophie, only to see her frozen.
"SOPHIE…" Sophie shook as she looked toward Simon.
"…I need your help!" Simon yelled out, keeping the goblins' attention on him whilst getting Sophie's as well. Sophie's eyes stayed at Simon's eye, allowing Simon to see her eyes. Even from this distance, he could see the look in her eyes, it was a look that told him that she knew something, that she was scared of something, but of what? These beasts were weak, so why was she so scared?
"Gyah!" A wicked shriek got Simon's attention as he quickly jumped back, nearly avoiding one of the goblins' attacks.
'To closeWHOA!' He bought his shield up to defend himself from the other's attack, but tackled him, causing Simon to hit the ground.
"Ow." He said before one of the goblins was atop him, ready to bring down its twisted bludgeon high above its head. It then swung…
"Carbunculus… crescunt… IACTA!" but Simon didn't feel pain as a ball of fire flew through the air, hitting and killing his aggressor. Simon turned his head and saw Sophie holding her staff forward. The remaining goblin turned to face her as well, causing her to freeze up again.
Simon quickly stood before he bashed his sword to his shield, getting the attention of the monster. The goblin turned, only to be stabbed in its midsection. Simon kicked the monster off and it fell flat on the ground, it was dead. Simon exhaled a breath he did not know he was holding in before he approached Sophie.
"Are you doing okay?" Simon asked Sophie. Sophie shook her head before she took her hand to her mouth. She quickly rushed to the back of a tree before retching noises could be heard.
"Quite the fighters, eh?" The man said as he came out from behind a different tree, gaining Simon's attention.
"Are you alright?" Simon asked. The man nodded.
"I am, thank you. Please take these." The man then placed his bag on the ground before he pulled out two leather cloaks.
"There is no need, besides, by the looks of it, you look like a traveling merchant, I wouldn't want you to lose merchandise." The man shook his head.
"My life is more valuable than my merchandise, although, if you need other things for your journey, you will have to pay for them." He said with a smirk. Simon laughed before he grabbed the cloaks and shook his hand.
"Here's to business with you then," Simon said as he shook the merchant's hand. The merchant then went in the direction of the encampment. By this time Sophie stepped out from behind the tree, although she still looked pale.
"Are you sure you want to come with me Sophie?" Simon asked. Sophie looked at him.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that there might be more of these creatures, and I do not want you to be in any danger," Simon explained. However, Sophie shook her head.
"I'll be fine, just give me some time." She said, trying to sound calm, however, Simon could hear the slight concern in her voice. Simon nodded, albeit hesitantly before he began to the encampment.
Sophie, although a bit nucleus, followed, ensuring to step around the goblins… just in case they somehow woke up.
'I know they're dead… but I should still be cautious.' Sophie thought, trying to keep the bile from building back up.
Only a few minutes passed before Simon and Sophie were in the encampment. Now sporting the leather cloaks, they began to walk until Simon suddenly felt his chest.
'Master? Can you hear my voice?' Simon's eye widened. Sophie turned her gaze, unaware of what Simon heard.
"Simon, what's wrong?" Simon did not reply, instead, he briskly made his way toward the massive tent in the middle of the encampment. Simon entered, with Sophie right behind him, and what greeted them was a stone slab etched in runes.
"What is that?" Sophie asked. Simon slowly approached it.
"It's a riftstone," Simon answered. Sophie made a deadpan expression.
"And what does it do?"
"I don't know."
As Simon slowly got closer, the runes began to glow orange and then blue, as if it was a fire burning, but reverse. Sophie's eyes widened.
"Magick?" Sophie has never seen magick used on something like this before, to see something like this happening was unreal.
Suddenly a vertex of black clouds opened above the stone, and what fell out of the vertex was a woman with black hair styled as a bob cut, blue eyes, and a scar across the bridge of her nose. The clothing she wore was a surcoat, white tights, leather boots, and a simple leather cloak. She also wielded an iron sword and shield.
Both Sophie and Simon were shocked to see the woman.
'Who is she, where did she just come from?' Questions were swarming Sophie's head, however, when Simon spoke, it was none of those questions, but a single word.
"Sister?"
To all of you Dragon's Dogma buffs, although this fanfic will contain some elements from the game, the story itself will be mainly original, since Dragon's Dogma is essentially DnD in game form.
