Chapter XI:
Eyes like Storm Clouds
. . .
Ditching the broken gear, she pressed a hand to her wound, and slid up with the aid of a tree. She needed to find Error.
Activating her quirk on her feet, the flames came to life and engulf her shoes. With a deep breath she started running and- god it hurt.
She whimpered out loud, her movement jostling the branch imbedded in her side.
Just a little longer, she pleaded with herself. Kagome just needed to subdue him.
Firing out her flame, the ice began forming beneath her feet and with a jump she clicked her heels and her ice skates popped out the bottom of her shoes.
She started skating, getting faster and faster.
She had to get above the tree tops and locate him. Focusing the fire she started aiming it upwards and found her self skating across the treelike.
There was something familiar about the area.
Shaking off the thought she spotted the villain, he was awake and not as messed up as she was.
He spotted her too and cackled as he activated his quirk, he may not be able to fully transfer humans or himself home but he could see use the holes.
Promptly they began fighting.
Kagome grunted again as she took another blow from the villain. She need to get him docile or knocked out.
They had already pushed themselves close to a home, to which she has no doubts they would call the authorities.
He aimed a laser at her, and before she could react she was blasted straight into the house. She crashed through the wall, thankfully it was an older traditional japanese home, so it was paper and wood. She fell into a dining table, smashing the plates that were setup for a meal.
Kagome grunted as her wound was agitated. While the landing was much softer than bricks, it still hurt though.
"Ugh… can today get any worse?" She sighed, as she got up careful to not jostle her side.
It was then she noticed the occupants of the home who were in the kitchen, frozen in place.
Enji Todoroki was by his wife's side as they prepared dinner, staring at the girl who just crashed through their home. Toya, Fuyumi, Natsuo and Shoto who were in playing the living room, paused, frozen in terror as they stared in confusion at the strange woman in their home.
Kagome was paralysed, her eyes widened in fear as she counted each one of her family members.
Her eyes scraped over them, when they landed on a family portrait.
And she wasn't there.
The home that should have been an area of safety and warmth quickly was overcome with pure terror.
Yet it wasn't the occupants of the home who were in fear.
Kagome was paralysed... in fear of them.
God, why was she always the one causing the problem for her family?
And the way they looked at her... this was just another fucking reminder.
Every universe that Error took her to, she was never there.
She never existed. Error only confirmed her thoughts when he said the Todoroki's only ever had four kids.
Never five.
Never her.
She tried to get up in a hurry, only to yelp as her side still impaled began bleeding profusely, falling back into the pile she clutched her stomach her eyes and mouth clenched at the pain. Her- no, the parents rushed to her side.
"Young lady, are you alright?" Rei asked tenderly, kneeling to her side.
Her breath hitched as she felt a small, yet warm hand on her back.
Her heart stopped as she tensed under the hand.
She remembered her own mother, those stormy eyes and that fateful night.
Kagome just couldn't deal with this right now.
Rei saw how Kagome looked at her with great sadness and pain when she called to her. She couldn't understand what she said or did wrong, the young hero almost seemed heartbroken by their presence?
"Call the police and an ambulance, Rei get the kids away. I'll do the first aid for the woman." Enji immediately took command, protecting his family first but Kagome didn't have time for his stupid heroism she needed to finish her fight.
Her father, whether he knew or not, was never going to finish her fights. Kagome still felt the simmering anger from the days previous, but she composed herself.
"En- I mean, sir, please this villain is mentally unwell and needs his medication I need to-"
"Young Hero while you have done a great service so far, you are injured and need medical attention." He firmly told her. Rei ushered her children out of the house, with their coats, Enji handed the phone to her and informed her what she needed to do.
"Continue explaining the situation to them and wait near the front of the house, I'll deal with the villain myself." Enji said as he watched his family leave. Kagome once again tried to get up but this time with success. She hobbled to the hole she made, clutching her side all the while.
"Where are you going?! You need first aid!" Enji shouted after as Kagome's feet came alight, the lilac fire licking up her calves.
"No offence Endeavor, but I'll never need help from you." She didn't even glance over her shoulder as she broke out in a run, clicking her heels and sliding on her ice.
Enji stared at the girl incredulously, the animosity she had… it was overwhelming venomous.
He ran to catch her, but she was incredibly fast. He was easily lagging behind, and he was quite a fast hero given his endurance and stamina.
But Hawks was most definitely the fastest.
And she… could definitely rival Hawks.
He could hear the exchanging of blows not far from where he was, until suddenly it stopped. When he finally came up the scene, he found the girl humming softly to the what he assumed to be the villain.
Said villain was knocked out on the ground and on her lap.
Kagome hummed running her fingers through the villain's hair, even as she swayed slightly and her normally slightly tanned skinned was incredibly pale.
Enji couldn't believe what he was seeing, after the shit show he witnessed and the wound she garnered the same hero who he scolded had somehow lulled the villain into a rest.
"How…" He whispered out, scowling heavily and his flames alit on his face.
Kagome completely exhausted looked up, her eyes worn with heavy bags, her hair disbelieved with leaves and small sticks sticking out.
"I told you I didn't need you. Now I wait for him to take me home. I have to see my son…" She murmured slowly, until she finally succumbed to the blood loss and fatigue, Endeavor rushed to her. Catching her, and quickly applying direct pressure to the wound.
"Come on kid, don't give up on me!"
He didn't know this woman, hell he never heard or seen a pro-hero like her before, but he be damned if he let her slip out of his grasp.
Enji Todoroki didn't know why but he had the feeling he needed to look after her.
. . .
Kagome awoke to the sterile smell of a hospital room, and a white ceiling.
Ah shit.
The one thing she wasn't supposed to do was get caught up in the world but here she was. Then again Error was acting erratically and she was never going to stop this fall out.
In a hospital, with stitches and an IV drip.
Just great.
Kagome sat up, only to hiss at the pain in her side. Suddenly a woman was by her side telling her to lay back down and be careful.
She looked up and froze.
Rei Todoroki, as beautiful as the day Kagome last saw her… over a decade ago.
Her stunning white hair and kind greyish eyes were once something Kagome envied but now the colours only brought fear.
Fear of rejection, of being unloved…
"Sweetheart you need to rest, I'll call the nurse for some pain killers."
Rei left the room, and Kagome resigned into herself.
Then she noticed the other person in the room, the young man sitting in the corner.
Toya.
His ultramarine eyes stared at her, calculating, observing her as if she were the enemy and yet there was an uncertainty that swirled within.
He had pure white hair, looked to be around early twenties? So this universe was in same time frame as hers was, she concluded.
"Who are you?" He questioned, titling his head.
"Kagome."
She answered quickly.
"No last name?" She furrowed her brows at that, her last name was a giveaway and she didn't know what to use. But an idea hit her, she knew a name that he couldn't know one she was familiar with so maybe-
"Higurashi."
She could get away with that.
Toya eyed her suspiciously still.
"You haven't asked who I am yet…" He spoke slowly, eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"I don't plan on being here long, as soon I can leave I will. Seems silly to ask for a name I will only forget."
Toya nodded accepting the answer, still eyeing her skeptically.
Meanwhile in the relatives' room, the doctor sat at the table while Enji was standing a hand on his wife's shoulder as they both were astonished by .
"Doctor, ar-are you sure?" Rei asked, slightly shaky.
"I am, we ran it twice, we had it expressed as well. The results are the same." He explained calmly.
Enji had to sit down. His wife quickly intertwining her hand with his both looking at each other in shock.
"She's really our child?" Enji whispered, rubbing his chin in disbelief.
"How?" Rei breathed.
"I'm not sure, did you ever go to fertility clinics perhaps?" The doctor questioned.
"Never. No one has ever taken my DNA I'm sure." Rei confirmed.
"Maybe illegal experimentation…" Her husband supplied, upset even by his own idea.
"But Enji she knew us." Rei informed. "She seemed offended that I didn't use her name. She clearly knows our kids."
"And she definitely hates me…" Enji muttered, still in shock. Rei rubbed his forearm comfortably.
"The other guy, the villain you brought in does have a very powerful quirk from what we gathered." Both Todoroki's looked up at this. "Something to do with reality manipulation… it is possible… though we had to ask the guy and the woman to confirm…" The Doctor supplied, he trailed off towards the end.
"That she is from another reality." Enji supplied, the Doctor nodded in confirmation.
"Correct, we suspect the villain will recover the ability to use his quirk fully within a month, but that leaves them both stranded until then." The Doctor rubbed his neck, standing to leave the room.
"Until we gather more information on the situation and can confirm that where she is from, there is not much else we can do medically."
"In the meantime since you are next of kin… she may be open to spending her recovery with you?" He suggested. "Just a thought though, I have to go now but do call if you need anything."
"Thank you Doctor." Rei nodded, rubbing her Husband's back.
"She hates me, Rei, a kid I raised despises me… what did I do…."
"You didn't raise her, we don't know her." Rei honestly retorted, but she still had unshed tears glistening in her eyes. No matter how many times the two reminded themselves that she wasn't theirs, they couldn't help but claim her.
It was instinct for them. They had already raised four kids, and here was another who wasn't just a stranger but biologically theirs, and she was hurt.
"She even has a son, our grandchild… Enji, she looked at me with fear."
Both parents were unsure of what to do, but whatever it was… it would certainly involve their daughter.

A/N: so i read the reviews looking for feedback - and i'm actually surprised that most of you seem to like this alt universe stuff ha!
Okay so first of all to address the concerns/critiques; i'm more than happy to make the chapters longer! This one is about 2,000 words! Normally i aim for around 1,000 but if you guys feel that's too short i will make it longer! Let me know how this is for you guys.
To the review by guest TA - I appreciate you taking time out of your day to tell me how you feel. I understand your concerns so I wanted to respond just as coherently! Okay so i was actually purposely not giving any exposition aka details for the characters behaviours cus i was going to be addressing a lot in the next few chapters but also funnily enough i kinda hate exposition. I preplanned a lot of the story so i knew when major story points and details were needed but i think i forgot that while i know everything i kinda have left you guys in the dark. However a lot about Kagome's teenage years and childhood is going to revealed in the next chapters especially for why she acts so childish at times and has a hard time accepting a father figure in her life. I'm glad to see though that you are really invested in the character's development! I will make sure to have things explained a little more deeply from now on! I hope you can continue to read despite's the story's shortcomings, but if not that's okay! Thank you!
I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for the reviews, favs and follows! I really do appreciate it! It's feedback like what you guys have been giving that not only motivates me but also helps makes the story better!
The next update should be either later today or in the next few days depending on how the writing goes ;)
