Team Galactic and The Great Marsh
The next morning at the Veilstone City Pokemon Center. The Eds are in the cafeteria, having breakfast. After they finished eating, Eddy goes to pick up his Pokemon from the nurse and they leave the Pokemon Center. As they left the center, a man in a Team Galactic uniform bumps into Edd and walks off.
"Well that was rude. He could have apologized for bumping into me like that." said Edd. Edd felt something was different about his pocket. He looks through it and saw that his pokedex was gone. "My pokedex is gone!" Edd instantly figured out what happened. "That man who bumped into me must've stolen it."
"Why that...Come on, let's get him." said Eddy. He and the others ran in the direction they saw the man run in. They tracked him down to a small warehouse on the north end of the city. They saw him with another Team Galactic member.
"Excuse me. Would you kindly return the pokedex you just stole." said Edd.
"Sorry, kid. But the knowledge inside the pokedex could be useful in our goal. But if you want it back, you'll have to battle for it." said the Team Galactic member as he and his partner each pull out a pokeball. They throw them, releasing a Pokemon that looks like a butterfly, and a purple buglike Pokemon with green wings.
"I think that those Pokemon are a Beautifly and a Dustox. Beautifly is the evolved form of Silcoon, and Dustox is the evolved form of Cascoon. I recall seeing them in Eterna Forest." said Edd.
"Let's just get the pokedex back from these losers." said Eddy.
"Very well. Ed, would you please assist?" asked Edd.
"Okay." said Ed as he and Edd each pull out a pokeball. "Let's go, Staravia." He throws Staravia's pokeball and releases him.
"You too, Rhyhorn." said Edd as he throws Rhyhorn's pokeball and releases him.
"Beautifly, use Air Cutter." said the Team Galactic member. Beautifly flaps its wings and releases blades of light blue energy and hits Staravia.
"Star!" exclaimed Staravia.
"Staravia, use Wing Attack." said Ed. Staravia flies at Beautifly while his right wing is glowing and he swings it and strikes Beautifly. Because Beautifly was a bug type, it was weak against flying type moves, and the Sky Plate Staravia was holding made Wing Attack more stronger than it normally was. Beautifly landed on the ground with swirly eyes.
"Beautifly!" exclaimed the Team Galactic member.
"Good work, Staravia." said Ed. The Team Galactic member returned Beautifly to its pokeball and pulls another one out of his pocket.
"Come out, Croagunk." said the Team Galactic member, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Croagunk.
"Staravia, Aerial Ace." said Ed. Staravia flies at Croagunk at incredible speed with streaks of white energy around him.
"Croagunk, Sucker Punch." said the Team Galactic member. The Croagunk jumps at Staravia and punches him in the chest, but Staravia then flies into Croagunk and crashes into it, causing super effective damage due to Croagunk being part fighting and Sky Plate made Aerial Ace more powerful. Croagunk fell to the ground with swirly eyes.
"You did it, Staravia." said Ed. The Team Galactic member drops to his knees. He returns Croagunk to its pokeball. With Edd, his Rhyhorn was facing off against the Team Galactic member's Dustox.
"Rhyhorn, use Smack Down." said Edd. Rhyhorn jumps above the Dustox and slams down on it, sending it falling to the ground.
"Hurry, Dustox. Use Psybeam." said the Team Galactic member. Dustox releases a Psybeam attack which hits Rhyhorn, but Rhyhorn shakes it off.
"Rhyhorn, use Horn Attack." said Edd. Rhyhorn charges at Dustox and rams his horn into it sending it flying back and knocking it out.
"Excellent work, Rhyhorn." says Edd. The Team Galactic member pulls out another pokeball and throws it, releasing a Stunky. "Rhyhorn, use Bulldoze."
"Stunky, use Sucker Punch." said the Team Galactic member. The Stunky's front paw glows purple and it hits Rhyhorn across the face just as Rhyhorn uses Bulldoze. The Bulldoze attack was strong enough to knock Stunky out.
"You did it, Rhyhorn." said Edd. Rhyhorn smiles in response. The Team Galactic member returns Stunky to its pokeball.
"I don't believe this. Beaten by kids." said the Team Galactic member as he pulls out the pokedex and some pokedollars. "Here's your lousy pokedex and money. We're getting out of here. And stay away from our warehouse over there." said the Team Galactic member as he ran off. The other member gives Ed pokedollars and leaves as well.
"Well we got the pokedex back, gentlemen." said Edd.
"Good." said Eddy. Edd looks at the warehouse that the Team Galactic member mentioned.
"What do you suppose is in that warehouse over there?" asked Edd.
"I don't know. But we should check it out anyway. There might me something good in there." said Eddy as he and the others go inside. When they do, they see several crates all over the place.
"What do you think is behind this door?" asked Edd, pointing to a big metal door.
"Have you tried opening it?" asked Eddy.
"Yes, but it's locked." said Edd.
"Hey, guys. What are these?" asked Ed as he held out three TMs and a sheet of paper. Edd takes the paper and looks at it.
"Why, according to this, those TMs are for a move called Fly. Fly is a flying-type attack. But it can be used outside of battle as well with our Poketch's HM app. We can use Fly to return to any town or city we've been to before." said Edd.
"Sweet. It should be a lot quicker than our bikes. But it stinks we can't fly to places we haven't been to." said Eddy.
"True. Anyway, we should teach our flying-type Pokemon how to use Fly; it could be useful." said Edd. Thinking it's a good idea, the Eds release Staravia, Hoothoot, and Golbat and teach them Fly. After that, they returned their Pokemon and leave the warehouse.
"So what now?" asked Ed.
"Well as far as I know, we have no further business here, so we should go to Pastoria City like we planned." said Edd.
"Okay, then. Let's go, boys." said Eddy. They hop on their bikes and they head south and they leave Veilstone City and are soon traveling Route 214. As they did, they battled trainers who challenged them and the Eds always emerged victorious and really raked in the pokedollars, much to Eddy's delight. Soon, Edd was facing a trainer who had a Roselia of his own while Edd had Hoothoot out.
"Roselia, use Poison Sting." said Roselia's trainer. The Roselia leaps up and fires glowing purple needles out of its rose hands and they hit Hoothoot. She flies back, but was still staying strong.
"Hoothoot, use Extrasensory." said Edd. Hoothoot fires a multicolored beam of energy out of her beak and it hits Roselia. Because Roselia was part poison, it was weak against psychic type attacks, and because of Odd Incense, Extrasenory was more powerful than it originally was. The Roselia falls back onto the ground with swirly eyes. "Great work, Hoothoot." Hoothoot did a mid-air somersault and suddenly froze. "Something wrong, Hoothoot?" Hoothoot suddenly began glowing. "My word. Hoothoot is evolving." Hoothoot began growing and then the glowing stopped. Hoothoot was now bigger and had cream-colored feathers over her eyes that resembled large eyebrows. Edd takes out the pokedex and points it at the newly evolved Hoothoot.
"Noctowl, the Owl Pokemon and the evolved form of Hoothoot. If it flips its head upside down, it's a sign that it is engaged in very complex thinking." said the pokedex. Edd walks over to Noctowl.
"Congratulations, Noctowl." said Edd. Roselia's trainer returns it to its pokeball, gives Edd pokedollars and walks away. As Edd is returning Noctowl to her pokeball, he was approached by another trainer.
"I saw your battle. You seem like a strong trainer." said the trainer.
"Thank you." replied Edd.
"I would like to challenge you to a Pokemon battle." said the trainer.
"Very well, I accept your challenge." said Edd. Soon Edd and the trainer were several feet from each other.
"Kirlia, I choose you." said Edd, throwing Kirlia's pokeball and releasing him. The trainer takes a pokeball out of his belt.
"Haunter, come forth." said the trainer, throwing a pokeball and releasing a purple, floating Pokemon with a pair of disembodied hands.
"What in the world is that?" asked Edd. He takes out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Haunter, the Gas Pokemon and the evolved form of Gastly. It licks with its gaseous tongue to steal its victim's life-force. It lurks in darkness, waiting for prey." said the pokedex.
"Haunter, use Shadow Punch." said Haunter's trainer. The Haunter's right hand becomes balled into a fist and becomes surrounded by shadowy energy. It flies forward and punches Kirlia.
"Kirlia!" exclaimed Kirlia as he flies back, but lands on his feet. Haunter's right hand returns near it.
"Oh dear. Shadow Punch is a ghost type attack, which is strong against psychic type Pokemon and it never misses." said Edd. "But Haunter is part poison type, which is weak against psychic type attacks like this one. Kirlia, use Psybeam." Kirlia holds out his hands and fires a multicolored beam of energy and hits Haunter.
"Haunter!" exclaimed Haunter. Because of the Mind Plate Kirlia was holding, Psybeam was stronger than it normally was and caused more damage to Haunter.
"All right, Haunter, use Lick." said Haunter's trainer. Haunter flies towards Kirlia with its tongue hanging out.
"Kirlia, Teleport." said Edd. Kirlia's body turns into white light and vanishes, leaving Haunter licking nothing. Haunter looks around until Kirlia appears to the left of it. "Now Psychic." Kirlia's eyes glowed blue and he unleashes two beams of blue energy and it hits Haunter, causing super effective damage.
"Haunter!" yells Haunter. It flies back and lands on the ground, its eyes swirly. Haunter' trainer drops to his knees.
"Looks like you beat me." said the trainer. He returns Haunter to its pokeball and gives Edd pokedollars and walks away.
"Way to go, Double-D." said Ed.
"Thank you, Ed." said Edd. "These battles will be excellent training so we can prepare for our gym battles in Pastoria City."
"What do you think this gym leader is like?" asked Eddy.
"I have no clue, Eddy. But we'll find out once we get to Pastoria City." replied Edd. He returns Kirlia to his pokeball and they continue biking. On the way, they took the time to train their Pokemon a bit more. During the training, most of the Eds Pokemon learned a new move. Grotle learned Leech Seed, Staravia learned Take Down, Psyduck learned Psych Up, Duskull learned Hex, Stunky learned Sucker Punch, Prinplup learned Brine, Kricketune learned X-Scissor, Roselia learned Giga Drain, Hoothoot learned Roost, Rhyhorn learned Rock Blast, Monferno learned Close Combat, Golbat learned Bite, Graveler learned Rock Blast, and Absol learned Night Slash. As Ed was training Elekid, he suddenly began glowing. "Ed! I think your Elekid is evolving."
"Oh boy." said Ed. Elekid began to grow and soon the glowing stopped. Ed saw that Elekid was bigger, had a long tail with black rings around it, a black lightning bolt marking on his chest, a black, V-shaped mark on his forehead, and antennaes with bulbous tips instead of prongs on his head. Edd takes out the pokedex.
"Good thing we got this back from those Team Galactic men." said Edd, pointing it at the newly-evolved Elekid.
"Electabuzz, the Electric Pokemon and the evolved form of Elekid. Half of blackouts occur when this Pokemon appear at power plants and eat electricity." said the pokedex.
"Congratulations Ed. You too, Eleki...I mean, Electabuzz." said Edd. Soon they passed through a lakeside resort that had more trainers for them to battle. These trainers were rich so they had a lot more money than your usual trainer so the Eds got more money from beating them, very much to Eddy's delight. They would've checked in, but the resort was completely booked. "Maybe we should just stick to Pokemon Centers; at least we don't have to spend any money to stay at those."
"Good point. All right, let's get going." said Eddy. They travelled along a small beach until they finally reached Pastoria City.
"Well that didn't take as long as I thought it would." said Edd.
"Yeah." said Eddy. They went to the Pokemon Center and gave their Pokemon to the nurse. While they ate, the Eds took the time to talk about their upcoming gym battles.
"What kind of Pokemon do you think the gym leader here has, you guys?" asked Ed.
"No idea, Ed." said Eddy.
"We'll just have to wait until tomorrow to find out. In the meantime, I want to check out the Great Marsh I've heard about. I hear there's some Pokemon that we can't find anywhere else." said Edd.
"Sure. I still have room on my team for one more Pokemon." said Eddy. After they were done eating, the Eds headed to the north end of town and enter the building that houses the entrance to the Great Marsh. They walked over to a counter with a man behind it.
"Excuse me, sir. My friends and I would like to explore the Great Marsh." said Edd.
"Certainly. That will be 1,500 pokedollars, please." said the man. A look of anger appears on Eddy's face.
"1,500 pokedollars?! Are you crazy?!" yelled Eddy.
"We charge people to enter just to help pay for things we need to help preserve the Great Marsh." explained the man.
"Don't worry, Eddy. We did win a lot of money on the way here, and we can always win some more at our gym battles tomorrow." said Edd.
"Okay." said Eddy with tears in his eyes as he handed the man the money.
"Thank you. And here are your Safari Balls. Just so you know that you can't bring your Pokemon in with you. You're required to try and catch Pokemon without them." said the man.
"That's no problem. All our Pokemon are at the Pokemon Center, anyway." said Edd.
"Very well. Enjoy the Great Marsh." said the man.
"Thank you." said Edd as he and the others headed into the Great Marsh with Eddy crying at the loss of the money they spent. The Eds explored the area, looking for Pokemon. They soon came across a light blue Pokemon with an oval-shaped head, a tail, and no arms.
"What the heck is that?" asked Eddy. Edd pulls out the pokedex.
"Wooper, the Water Fish Pokemon. When the temperature cools, it emerges from water to seek food along the shore." said the pokedex.
"Well how the heck are we suppose to capture this Pokemon when we can't use ours?" asked Eddy. The Wooper turns and runs away. "Well that stinks."
"C'mon, Eddy. Let's keep exploring." said Edd. The Eds continue to explore the Great Marsh. They reached the farthest part of the area. As they walked around, Ed sees a purple plate sticking out of the ground. He runs over to it and pulls it out.
"Hey, Double-D. I found a plate." said Ed, holding it up.
"Very good, Ed. That is a Toxic Plate, which powers up the poison type attacks of the Pokemon that holds it." said Edd. "You should give it to your Stunky as soon as you get her back."
"Okay." replied Ed. He puts it in his backpack and continues on with the others. As they continued exploring, they encountered a green Pokemon that resembled a venus flytrap. Edd takes out the pokedex.
"Carnivine, the Bug Catcher Pokemon. Using its tentacles to hang from branches, it looks like a plant when it is not moving. It awaits prey with its mouth wide open." said the pokedex.
"Well how are we suppose to capture this Pokemon?" asked Eddy.
"I have an idea." said Ed. He picks up a handful of mud off the ground and throws it at the Carnivine. It glares at the Eds and retreats into the trees.
"Nice plan, Ed." said Eddy.
"Sorry, Eddy." replied Ed. They continued on until they explored every part of the Great Marsh.
"Well this was a waste of time. We haven't caught a single Pokemon." said Eddy.
"Not true, Eddy. Ed did find that Toxic Plate for his Stunky. And I'm certain you'll find a sixth Pokemon for your team soon enough." said Edd.
"I guess you're right. Let's get out of here." said Eddy. They headed back to the Great Marsh entrance. When they were almost there, a trainer who was also checking out the Great Marsh approached them.
"Excuse me." said the trainer.
"What can we do for you?" asked Edd.
"I was just wondering if you would like these TMs for a move called Defog." said the trainer.
"What does Defog do?" asked Edd.
"In battle, it decreases an opposing Pokemon's evasiness. But outside of battle, it can clear away thick patches of fog. That ability should be on a Poketch's HM App." explained the trainer.
"I suppose that could come in handy in the future. We'll accept them." said Edd. The trainer gives Edd the TMs and leaves. Soon after, the Eds also exit the Grand Marsh.
"What a jip! We didn't get a single Pokemon." said Eddy.
"But at least we got these new TMs." said Edd.
"And I found a Toxic Place." said Ed.
"So you see, it wasn't a total waste of time coming here." said Edd.
"I guess. So what now?" asked Eddy.
"It is starting to get late. We should go back to the Pokemon Center and pick up our Pokemon. After that, we'll have dinner and go to bed. We'll need to be well rested for our gym battles tomorrow." said Edd.
"Good idea, sockhead." said Eddy. They went back to the Pokemon Center and got their Pokemon back from the nurse. Ed let Stunky out of her pokeball and he gives her the Toxic Plate, after that, he returns her to her pokeball. After that, they had dinner and then went to bed. The next morning after breakfast, they left and went to the Pastoria Gym.
"Well, gentlemen. Here we are, the Pastoria Gym." said Edd.
"Well what are we waiting for? Let's get our next badges." said Eddy. The Eds entered the gym and were surprised to see that it was mostly a large pool with some floating platforms in it with bleachers just alongside it. On one of the platforms was a large man with a patch of black hair and beard, wearing a mask, no shirt, orange and blue bracers, and blue pants.
"Who's that?" asked Ed. The man looks over at the Eds and roars, startling Edd and Eddy, but not Ed.
"I'm Crasher Wake! The Pastoria City gym leader! My Pokemon will bring down a tidal wave of fury on all your Pokemon! So which one of you is going to challenge me first?!" says the man known as Crasher Wake. The Eds look at each other before Ed steps forward.
"I, Ed, will take you on first!" said Ed. Crasher Wake laughs in response.
"I like your enthusiasm, kid. But it'll take more than that to beat me!" says Crasher Wake. Ed steps onto one of the floating platforms in the pool while Edd and Eddy sit on some bleachers.. A referee steps out onto the side of the pool.
"This will be a three-on-three battle between the challenger, Ed; and the gym leader, Crasher Wake. Both will battle until all of one trainer's Pokemon are all unable to battle. The trainer with any Pokemon remaining will be the winner. Let the battle begin." says the referee. Ed and Crasher Wave each push the button on their pokeball to enlarge them.
