A Light In The Darkness...

Poor Ms. Shizuka...
Bakura thought to himself and sighed.
After what I saw following her the other day...it's no wonder she struggles as she does...
He rested a chin in his hand and glanced over to her seat. Empty again.
Running late again...
He sighed and shifted his gaze to the clock. As he waited he shifted his gaze towards the powow in the corner consisting of Yugi, Joey, Tristan and Tea. The Usual group. A friendly lot. Bakura could easily call them his friends, but he doesn't really hang out with them too much. Not really. He's a bit of a shy type, not anti social...but not what one would call socialble or out going either. He's easy to miss, which makes him come off as the handsome quiet foreigner which seemed to be all girls seemed to notice...
Perhaps that's why he felt a kin to Shizuka...as she was very much the same. Beautiful, but doesn't stand out other wise unless one s actually looking. He was listening in and only catching bits and pieces about Yugi having been invited to to join a tournament-
"A tournament, at Duelist Kingdom? Isn't that an island?" he heard tea ask.
The Duelist Kingdom Tournament?
Bakura thought to himself.
Huh...I was invited to that too...the ship for it leaves in two days. I wonder...
"Hey Yugi! Check this out!" he heard Tristan spit out excitedly, "According to this card- the winner of the tournament takes home the grand prize of 3 million Dollars!"
Bakura gasped.
That's right!
He thought to himself and shuffled through his pockets to pull out his own invitation and re-read through its contents.
There's prize money for the tournament winner!
"Perhaps with this...Ms. Shizuka could..."
xxxxx
Shizuka coughed up chalk dust as she smacked out the erasers for her detention for having been late again. Even though she was choking and sneezing...she had other heavy things weighng in on her mind.
Tobi's care in the hospital is becoming so expensive...
she thought to herself.
And we're almost out of money...I won't have any food at home for a while if I give the rest to them...At least not until our parents send more next month...
She sighed as she listened to the rest of the lingering students make their way outside towards the gate...Though she did catch pieces of conversation that did grab her attention.
"I can't believe the prize money for the Dueling tournament is so high!" she heard her classmate Tristan say as he passed through the hallway with Tea, "3 Million."
"What's that? 3 million dollars?" Shizuka blinked, "As prize money in a Duelist tournament?"
"You're amazing sis! You should comepete in tournaments!"
Tobi's words echoed in her mind. Her little brother had such high faith in her.
"3 million...in cold cash..." she whispered out softly.
With money like that, I should be able to pay off all of Tobi's medical procedures and get out of debt!
She blinked, eyes narrowing as she considered her options.
...If the only way to get it is by taking a chance to win a tournament...then so be it!
With a new found determination she gave a firm nod. Mind made up.
"It's time to duel!"
she said with a huff, giving one final clap of the erasers, disappearing in a cloud of chalk dust as she clicked her heels thick foooted out the door.
