Sorry there was such a gap in posting chapter 3 to 4. To keep it simple I had to get eye surgery and once everything was golden from that new glasses so my eyes would stop stressing out so much. I'll be sure to post at least once a week with an extra post here and there if possible.
Leorio and Kurapika ended up finding me on the ship about an hour after we boarded. Time was wasted with normal conversation before Kurapika asked me a question once Leorio left to let us talk.
"Are you alright, Tsukiko?" Kurapika asked gently. "Gon told me what happened back in the first exam."
"Yeah, I'm fine." I said with a laugh. "I only got my ass handed to me but I couldn't just sit and do nothing"
"Hisoka is strong."
I sighed out before looking over at Kurapika. "He was toying with me but I passed I still passed his test...whatever it was about."
"Apparently we all passed his test." He said before looking at me. "You didn't seem like you were alright when we finished the First Phase."
"Well, I have had better days." I said placing a hand behind my head. "But Hisoka's bloodlust brings out mine and I…I have a hard time keeping mine under control around his. Though staying away from him now is out of the question."
"I did want to ask you a question." He said changing the conversation. "You heard our reasons for wanting to become Hunters. What is yours?"
"I made a promise." I said with a smile. "One I intend to keep. And once I become a Hunter I'll celebrate with my friends before seeing what the world has to offer. It's the least I could do."
"A promise?"
"Yeah." My smile turned sad. "Those idiots convinced me with their excitement and constant pestering. They were very much like Gon in their personalities. I suppose that is why, out of everyone here, I was drawn to him. The age difference is weird but I suppose I adopted you all as part of my extended family. The little brothers I never had. Those two broke down so many of my walls that while I liked being on my own they…"
"Hey you two. Found the cafeteria!" Leorio shouted from down the hall. "Time to eat!"
I let a laugh fall from my lips before heading that way with Kurapika and Leorio. My stomach growled with impatience and the overall mood changed to a much lighter tone as we went to snatch some food. I didn't eat too much but it was welcoming, in fact I drank more than anything. Oddly enough I found a new drink I liked and it was insanely simple to make and to be fair I may have filled up on that. Lemonade was now added to my list of things I enjoyed. We went our separate ways after the meal but I wasn't ready to sleep just yet. I found a random bench that had a view I enjoyed and just sat there by the window, leaning on the table, watching the sky drift by. I relaxed as time went by and slowly felt myself drifting to sleep. Stretching back I felt my head and upper back come in contact with something solid yet warm. I didn't question it as my mind was too drowsy. Until it wasn't. I jumped up and turned around finally realizing someone was standing behind me. Hisoka was there with a grin still plastered to his face. I hadn't even sensed him there and I used his stomach to lean against. A shiver ran down my spine and all I could do was just stare at him questioningly since words were failing me.
"Don't worry Fang, I won't bite." He said taking a seat on the bench I had just been occupying.
"It isn't just your bite that scares me." I said softly, wanting to back away and head down the hall.
"Sit." He commanded, probably sensing my want to flee.
"Places to be…" I started as he placed a hand on my shoulder and roughly guided me to sit beside him. " They can wait."
"So tell me Fang, why are you here all alone?"
Despite my situation, sleep still made my eyes heavy, and I closed them before answering. "The view. It's relaxing."
"I see." He said leaning closer to my ear. "Where did you learn to use Nen?"
The feeling of his breath on my ear made me shiver before I answered. "I have always known how to use it. Slowly gaining more control over it as time went on."
"Hmmm." He hummed, sounding interested and waiting for me to add more.
"It wasn't until about six years ago on a trip to YorkNew City that I learned everything had names." I said remembering the trip. "It …was an interesting trip to say the least."
"Things didn't go as you had planned, I take it."
"No, In fact they went so badly that I haven't been back there." I said with a laugh. "I was so lost but in the end I learned some useful information that has served me well to this day. The only good that came from it was that some Hunter was kind enough to teach me the basics."
"So you really weren't taught how to use your Nen." He said brushing his hair back with one hand. "You really are a hidden gem."
My eyes widened at that statement. "I wouldn't go that far. I'm nothing special. I'm not even on your level."
Hisoka's arm snaked onto my shoulders before leaning in and purring into my ear. "You may not see it but you are. Besides, with more training you can become so much stronger."
I tiled my head barely in his direction to get a better look at his face. He meant what he said and I wasn't sure what to think about this aside from the fact that he was too close. When I went to make some space his hand kept me in place and I let my shoulders fall. With the sleep heavy in my eyes and warmth from the one next to me I was slowly giving in. My eyes closed and I soon found myself drifting to sleep even as I heard Hisoka's voice. I was comfortable and I just hoped I actually woke up in one piece.
When morning arrived, I awoke startled at my location. I somehow ended up in the same cabin as most of the contestants. Did Hisoka bring me here? That didn't seem like him so maybe someone else had, which seemed more likely. I got up, straightened my clothing before I tip-toed out, careful not to wake anyone. Looking out at the rising sun once I made it to the hallway was a welcoming sight. Not too soon after an announcement rang out letting everyone know that we were just about at our destination.
