Hello again, friends. Without further a-due here is Beginnings: Part 2 :)
"Next time," said Jewel, as she shuffled carefully out of the patrol car, staring at Syd, as she helped her out. "We are taking the lower ground."
Syd sighed, "what makes you think there will be a next time?"
"Commander Cruger has summoned us to the command centre," said Sky, "it's either that or we are going to get a lecture."
Jewel nodded. "I bet on the lecture," she began to walk next to Sky, as they made it towards the lift. "What do you think, Bridge?"
"Maybe he might say better luck next time?" He suggested.
Sky shook his head, "It's going to be a lecture," he confirmed as the lift doors shut.
~*Beginnings Part 2*~
Cruger paced up and down the line, they had been standing there for five minutes already. "You underestimated your opponents," he finally said, "and you were soundly defeated."
"Told you," coughed Jewel, "We're getting a lecture," watching as Sky simply nodded in response.
Syd lowered her head, "We are so not ready to be Rangers."
"I'm ready," Sky simply replied.
"Oh," said Bridge, sarcastically, "so it must've been me, Syd and Jewel who let those two get away then?" Sky tilted his head as if Bridge had just stated the obvious.
Cruger shook his head, raising his arms, "listen to yourselves, there is no team here," he told them. "This is the issue you will have to overcome before you can become a Power Ranger."
"Oh," Jewel laughed, "all we have to do is stop blaming, criticising and judging each other?"
Bridge smiled widely, "you forgot to mention failing to bring in suspects."
"Thank you for that addition buddy," winked Jewel, chuckling as she shook her head.
Syd spoke next, "so that schedules us to be Power Rangers around never because there is no way Jewel and Sky are going to stop being sarcastic towards each other. They love it way too much."
"Hey," the two of them cried out in response.
Cruger firmly nodded, "You'll meet those two again," he told them.
"Sir," Sky stepped forward, "the civilians were different, they had special abilities like we do," he noted.
"Yes I know," responded Cruger. "Cadet Tate, come with me."
Jewel, Syd and Bridge watched as Sky walked off with Commander Cruger, "I wonder what he wanted Sky for?" asked Bridge, breaking the silence.
"I don't know," Jewel shrugged.
~*Beginnings Part 2*~
Jewel silently walked up to the wall of valour and sat down beside Sky on the bench. It'd been a couple of hours since his private conversation with Commander Cruger and when he hadn't returned to the command centre, she knew this was where he was hiding.
Sky would always hide here when he was upset. The wall of valour is the place of honour for any fallen SPD power rangers and cadets who fell in the times of war or whilst on duty. Sky's father had a place of honour on the wall after his death.
"Take it that the conversation with Cruger didn't go well?" she asked, sighing at Sky's silent response. "You know your father would be proud of you either way."
Sky turned to her, "what makes you think that?"
"Well apart from being a total arsehole at times," she pointed out, "you are extremely resilient, and you've never given up," she smiled. "I mean you're still here right? You've not stormed out on a temper tantrum."
"I suppose that's something," nodded Sky, "I just think that I will let him down if I don't become the red ranger."
Jewel shook her head, "you don't exactly have to take your father's path," she reminded him. "I wanted to be like my Dad, he was an amazing warrior but he wouldn't let me even after I threw many tantrums both Mum and Dad sat me down and said it was far too dangerous for me," she looked to the wall sighed, "at the time I thought he was being an areshole but now I realise he was right."
"If your Dad was alive," Sky slowly began to ask, "do you think he would be proud of you?"
"I think he would be," she admitted, "but I think he would be paying for a shit ton of therapy sessions right now, so probably not so much."
Sky looked back to the wall, "so many lives have been unnecessarily taken by Grumm."
"That we can both agree on," she nodded, standing up she turned to Sky, "Commander Cruger has summoned us back to the command centre."
Sky stood up, "why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"You looked upset," shrugged Jewel, "besides which he wasn't even in the command centre when I walked past and figured he could wait."
"Doesn't Cruger have the same super hearing power as you?" asked Sky, "wouldn't he be able to sense we are not in the command centre?"
Jewel shrugged, "what is he going to do, growl at us?" she asked, "he is going to be sending the A-Squad on an off-earth mission soon, he's going to need all the bodies he can get."
"Fair point," said Sky, as he followed her through the base.
~*Beginnings Part 2*~
"Yes," cheered Bridge, as he won another game of rock, paper, scissors against Syd. "Fifty-five times in a row."
Syd huffed, "okay, enough," she said. "I'm officially bored to tears. We get told to report here an hour ago, we'll report to who?"
"Commander Cruger," answered Jewel, as she sat at a station.
"Well why isn't he here?" Syd yelled, causing Bridge and Jewel to jump. It was very rare that Syd had outbursts but when she did the team knew about it.
Syd sighed, "sorry," she apologised. "I'm a little bit tense watching walk-a-thon boy wear a path on the floor."
"If you have a problem with it, Sydney," said Sky, "make me stop."
Syd flicked her head to the side and carefully started walking over to Sky, "okay, I may be a girl and I may be cute but no-one," Bridge and Jewel quickly got in between Syd and Sky trying to stop the fight that was about to break out.
"I trust you're using this time to bond as a team?" asked Cruger as he saw the B-Squad cadets fight in the command centre until they quickly got into attention.
They all nodded in response, "yes, Sir."
"Good, come this way," he instructed and began to lead them out of the command centre.
~*Beginnings Part 2*~
The four cadets followed Commander Cruger into the lab and walked straight into the middle as he joined Dr Manx and Boom by her station.
"Without going into too much detail," began Cruger. "Earth's ultimate survival dictates that I must elevate your team up to active status."
Boom raised his hand, "I'm sorry did you say earth's ultimate survival as in earth's going to be destroyed?" He watched as Cruger nodded his head in response.
"Grumm is going to launch an attack on earth isn't he?" asked Jewel, hoping that he wasn't going to say yes but the long pause and the look he shared with Dr. Manx was not giving her much confidence.
Cruger sighed, "Grumm has appeared on our radar," he said, "we are just being cautious," he understood why the young cadet may be cautious about Grumm attacking, he watched as she shifted her feet slightly but nodded like she understood.
"Who is this Grumm guy?" asked Syd, sharing a confused look with Bridge. Cruger felt his gaze flicker towards Sky and Jewel as they shared a look with one another he knew then that Jewel had told Sky all about Grumm but not the other members of her team. "Don't we have a right to know who he is?"
Jewel shook her head, "until the time comes the less you know about Grumm the better," she said, there was a reason why she didn't tell Syd and Bridge. They were too innocent. If she could protect them for as long as possible she would. Jewel eyes flickered back to Cruger and watched as he nodded in response.
"Cadets," said Dr. Manx trying to bring them back to the subject on hand, she looked to the far corner where Boom was waiting with the Morphers seeing him eagerly lift the tray up with a huge smile on her head, she shook her head. "You have spent the last two years in simulated training," she continued. "But this time the game is real."
Boom smiled as he walked over to Dr. Manx with the morphers and she took the fifth one off. Boom then turned to the B-Squad and started the line with Syd.
"SPD morphers," Dr. Manx showed the Morpher in her hand, "they are without a doubt your best friend," Boom gave Bridge and Sky their Morphers and stopped at Jewel who studied the Morpher left on the tray and carefully picked it up. "They are also judgement scanners. They will assess the guilt or innocence of those you take into custody."
There was a pause for a moment as Dr. Manx looked down at her Morpher. Boom had set the empty tray back at his station, "Boom," he looked to his boss, "guilty or innocent of eating the last slice of chocolate cake today?" Dr. Manx asked, raising the morpher up.
"Me?" questioned Boom, pointing to himself, looking to either side as Dr. Manx pressed the button.
"Like we really need a judgement scanner for this question?" Jewel rolled her eyes with a smug look on her face as Boom tried to talk his way out of it.
Sky smiled. "I think Kat is just doing this for fun," he whispered.
"The scanner reads body temperature and pulse and electrical impulses to render a verdict," she explained, seeing the cadets smile at the scene when the Red Cross appeared. Boom was guilty. "Guilty."
"But," protested Boom, placing his arms back down to his sides.
"And it does not make mistakes," said Dr. Manx.
Boom quivered, "Okay," he said. "I'm guilty but it was just a piece of cake," he cried, gasping as his boss placed him in a containment card. "Okay," he called from inside the card as Dr. Manx picked him up off the floor. "Time to let Boom out now."
"This makes transportation of the detainee a none issue," smirked Dr. Manx as she showed the card off at the Card.
"I can tell you've put him in a containment card before," laughed Jewel, seeing that she was enjoying this way too much.
Dr. Manx shrugged, "It gives me a few minutes of peace and quiet, when he's destroyed my lab to fix it," she looked to Cruger who was staring at her in surprise, "don't tell me you wouldn't do the same, Commander."
The four cadets chuckled as Cruger tilted his head, like he was clearly thinking about it. "You are trained and now equipped," he said, changing the subject. "You are the new B-Squad Power Rangers, Congratulations."
"Yes," cheered Boom, doing a little happy dance.
"Celebration can come later," said Cruger. "I need your immediate assistance on an urgent matter."
They all nodded, "yes sir!"
"Follow me," he ordered and they all began to slowly leave the lab.
~*Beginnings Part 2*~
"The Coordinates of the street thieves location has been locked into your vehicles computers," said Cruger, as he led them to the garage where the patrol car and bike were waiting for them already.
Bridge looked at his Commander, "What do we do if they refuse to come in?"
"If they absolutely refuse to come in," sighed Cruger. "Bring them in using the containment cards."
Jewel frowned, "but sir," she began, "isn't that against the human rights law?"
"Not when their lives could potentially be in danger," Cruger replied. "Good luck, B-Squad Power Rangers."
Jewel sat in the patrol car's passenger seat as Bridge drove the car. Syd had protested and claimed that she wanted to drive but Jewel put her foot down stating the last time Syd had driven the patrol car she almost got whiplash when she had misjudged how much space she had left to break before hitting the dual carriageway traffic.
"I still can't believe you won't let me drive," complained Syd, folding her arms as she sat in the back. "It was one time, Jewel."
"One time is enough," retorted Jewel, as she looked down to her morpher.
Bridge smiled, "I cannot believe that I get to drive the Patrol Car and become a Power Ranger all in one day."
"Yeah," said Jewel, "don't let it get to your head too much, if you crash that's it you're not driving," she smiled as Bridge looked shocked but kept his eye on the road.
Syd hummed, "I wonder what colour I would be?" she questioned out loud. "I hope I get to be the Pink Ranger. Pink is my favourite colour."
"We know," said Jewel and Bridge. Jewel clasped the morpher tightly.
Bridge looked down to his friend's hand, "you don't seem thrilled about being a ranger?" he questioned.
"Keep your eyes on the road," she snapped. "I am happy I am a Ranger," she answered after a long pause. "It's what we spent two years training for," she watched Sky drive the bike in front of them as he swerved in and out of cars like he was an expert. Show off, she thought. "But I can't help but think, what if I screw up? What If I get in the team danger?"
Syd frowned, "What makes you think you would get the team in danger?" She asked. "You always get us out of it."
"Nothing," she mused. "Forget I said anything," she looked out to the road as it led them into a warehouse complex. A lorry was already parked with the back door open. The two thieves were talking outside and they all climbed out of the vehicles.
Sky took off his gloves, "nice to see you two again."
"I told you we should've quit while we were ahead, Jack," said the brunette. Jewel frowned, great he was called Jack. That was enough to get her confused and mixed up with her partner.
Jack sniffed and positioned like he was going to fight, "don't worry," he calmly said. "I'll take care of this and we will be on our way," he then ran forward only for Sky to protect the team with a force field that sent Jack flying backwards.
"Jack!" his partner cried and rushed over to him making sure he wasn't hurt.
The four cadets stepped forwards, "Guess what?" Sky smirked. "You're not the only one with tricks."
"Jack," said his partner as she helped him off the floor. "Let's get out of here."
Jack shook his head, "We can't do that, Z," he said. Jewel made a mental note to remember her name or was it a nickname? "We need to finish these clowns here and now or these clowns will be bugging us forever."
"Clowns?" questioned Jewel, "did Jack just call us clowns?" she shook her head. "I'm offended." She noticed Sky raising his eyebrow as they got ready to fight.
Jack yelled out and began to run towards the SPD cadets. Bridge and Jewel began to chase after Z jumping over a crate. She realised she had nowhere to turn and turned to face them.
"Listen," said Bridge, holding his hands up, "I think we should go about this the smoothest and respectful way possible."
Jewel nodded, "Trust me you won't want the alternative."
"Ask Boom he doesn't like it," nodded Bridge. Z roundhouse kicked Bridge and he ducked to avoid the blow.
Jewel tilted her head. "I guess we are not going the easy way," she said, watching as Z went to fight her. It didn't take them too long to eventually overpower the two thieves as they ended up resting against a crate.
"We are not doing as well as we thought Bro," said Z, "any suggestions?"
Jack looked at her, "Run?" he answered and the two began to run only to be blocked by them again.
"You're both accused of stealing and distributing stolen goods," Sky announced as he stretched out his arm that was holding the morpher.
Jack nodded towards them, "can you prove them?"
"Actually," said Bridge, slightly amused at the response, "yes we can," Sky activated the lie detector and they watched as it flashed red. "Guilty," followed Bridge.
Z winced, "can we go two out of three?" she nervously asked, watching all four of them raising their eyebrows as if to say no. "I didn't think so," she watched as Sky stopped the morpher. "Wait, what are you going to do with us?"
"It's actually quite fascinating," said Bridge. "We're going to blast you with antimatter fusion which is going to reduce you to approximately this big," he demonstrated with his hands, "and this thin."
Jewel sighed, "That's it, Bridge you just give away our trade secrets," she said, shaking her head.
"He loves it really," said Syd, she watched as her best friend still continued to babble on. "Maybe a little bit too much."
Sky shook his head at the girls gossiping, turning to Bridge, shaking his head and giving him a glare, "just get to the point, Bridge."
"Until your time is served," said Bridge with a cough, he really didn't like it when Sky glared at him like that but he could sense the girls were getting a bit pissed off.
Jack turned to Z, "you had to ask didn't you?" he said with a solemn look.
"You do the crime," said Syd, "you pay the time," she grinned widely, "I always wanted to say that."
Sky shook his head, "enough of the small talk," he raised his morpher, his finger hovering over the button on the top. Jack and Z prepared to fight until a figure dropped down the sky.
"Shit," said Jewel, stepping back. "A bluehead," her eyes widened as she watched the bluehead take out a small metal ball and a bunch of Krybots appeared out of them. "Shit. Shit. Shit."
Sky clenched his hands into a fist, "That's okay," he looked at Jack and Z. "A few extra friends won't bother us."
"They're not with Jack and Z," said Jewel, earning a look from Sky. "We are in deep shit, Sky."
Jack chuckled, "your girlfriend is right," he laughed, causing Sky to roll his eyes at that comment. He really wanted to shout no she isn't. "These aren't our friends," they started to step back, "so with our deepest apologies, we will be on our way," he bowed. "Good Luck," he laughed like he had won the lottery, as they began to run off into the distance.
So, what do you guys think so far? Considering this is my first story and I'm actually determined to write fanfiction instead of little scenes. I'm splitting the first two episodes up so there will be four parts of Beginnings but after that the episodes will just be chapters. I am going to write some original chapters I think. I have a few ideas but we shall see :)
FallenArcana: It always surprised me that they did not know the A-Squad. Surely they did? They spent two years of training and the A-Squad are the Rangers considering they trained D-Squad cadets they must've met at some point and yeah, Jewel and Charlie are DEFINITELY going to crash later on. I'm really glad your enjoying it - thank you so much for the review and follow. :)
