well, welcome, foolish humans, to the thirty-ninth chapter of my 'Vampire Knight' fanfiction based upon the anime as it would be told from Zero Kiryuu's point of view. this thirty-ninth chapter of 'Life With Yuuki: 'Vampire Knight' As Told by Zero' is taken from the time in the fifth episode of the original anime. it is the scene in the episode in which Kaname Kuuran 'explains' to Yuuki and Zero why Level E vampires exist in the first place. needless to say it, Zero takes Kaname Kuuran's 'explanation' real hard in the long run. I so don't get exactly what Yuuki sees in Kaname Kuuran. sure, he rescued her from a vicious Level E as a child, but that was in the past. he had done things that she wouldn't approve of him doing since then, and I don't know or care why she sticks with him, because he's the old kind of bad boy in my opinion. I have always liked Zero infinitely better than Kaname, anyway.

moving on. this thirty-ninth chapter of 'Life With Yuuki: 'Vampire Knight' As Told by Zero' is a good two-thousand-forty-eight words of storyline, give or take a comment or two from yours truly disguised as an author's note with the label of 'A/N'. the storyline of this thirty-ninth chapter doesn't include the description of the chapter's storyline just above, this headnote explaining the length of words in this chapter, or the disclaimer which makes up this chapter's paragraph before the storyline directly following this headnote, right here. yes, I know that the disclaimer is pretty much the same as it was in chapters thirty-three through thirty-eight, but I've been a little strapped for both the inspiration for words in my disclaimers and the time to write them. sad to say it, but it's nothing short of the truth.

disclamation: I don't own 'Vampire Knight' in any way, shape, or form, be it the anime or the manga. Matsuri Hino owns the rights to the manga while the cast and crew for the anime are the people from Viz Media. if I had owned even one bit of even the anime, I so wouldn't have let it draw to a conclusion on such a note as what it had. I would've continued it a lot further into the manga and ended it the right way. I really wish that Viz Media had ended the anime the right way, or would at least make a reboot of the anime, like FUNimation had with 'Fruits Basket' when they discovered that it had come out with a sequel manga series.

That Kaname Kuuran just placed his hand to his bangs and sighed upon the realization that my Yuuki was not willing to back down to him that time.

Kaname Kuuran: Did you, now? Come over here. Yuuki. Zero.

My precious little Yuuki might have gasped at it, but I could do absolutely nothing but scoff at that Kaname Kuuran for inviting me over most likely only so he could simply rub my Yuuki's charm towards him in my face. Then, he walked over towards the sofa that was present at the time and sat down on it as my Yuuki walked over to that Kaname Kuuran's side followed closely by yours truly.

Kaname Kuuran (continued): Yuuki, sit beside me.

My Yuuki grew shocked by that Kaname Kuuran's sudden presumption that she could sit at his side without getting a hostile glance here and there even from the girl vampires within the Night Class. Kaname just scoffed at my Yuuki's worries about her bad reputation with the Day Class girls getting any worse by bleeding onto the vampiresses from within the Night Class.

Kaname Kuuran (continued): It's alright.

It was most certainly not alright. Was that Kaname Kuuran completely blind to nearly every last one of the vampiresses in the Night Class, if not all of them, glaring at my Yuuki like they were trying to set her on fire right within his own views? My Yuuki had tried her hardest to avoid any further one-sided bad blood between her and her fellow girls.

Yuuki Cross: I'm fine here.

That Kaname Kuuran was pretty demanding towards my precious little Yuuki, though.

Kaname Kuuran: Yuuki!

My Yuuki just sat down next to that Kaname Kuuran following his demand.

Yuuki Cross: OK.

Once she had sat down right next to him, that Kaname Kuuran just pulled my Yuuki down close to his chest. Did this guy ever take a break from being so forward with her?

Kaname Kuuran: Beside me is the safest place for you to be.

Yuuki looked in the Night Class's general direction and then at me following hearing those arrogant words from that even more arrogant Kaname Kuuran. I could see the look on my Yuuki's face only too well. I just looked away from her and just towards the trees in the background thereafter.

Yuuki Cross: You know actually, I've been meaning to thank you for the…

My Yuuki began trying to thank that Kaname Kuuran for that time he had saved her from that one Level E vampire that night from back within the very first memories of her childhood when he interrupted her.

Kaname Kuuran: To be honest, vampires that were formerly humans shouldn't really exist, at all.

I had to gasp at those words from that Kaname Kuuran, and I could easily hear Yuuki do just the same exact thing despite the distance between her and I, even with her having been so quiet about it. Of course, I knew for a fact that those words were nothing short of that Kaname Kuuran's own personal attack against me.

Kaname Kuuran (continued): But centuries ago, in the dark annals of history lies a time when the battle between vampires and vampire hunters was most violent. Many humans were forcibly turned into vampires at that time. It was done to bolster our numbers in battle.

Then, that Kaname Kuuran began reaching for my Yuuki's elbow just around the area in which she had been injured that day which led to the run-in with that Level E vampire, just before holding her whole arm out. I could very clearly see the look upon my Yuuki's face by that occurrence. I could see very clearly that my Yuuki was blushing at that Kaname Kuuran holding onto her arm.

Kaname Kuuran (continued): Ever since that wrong was committed, it has been the duty of the aristocrats to oversee the vampires who were once human. And often, that duty means ending their lives for another's safety.

Then upon that Kaname Kuuran holding out her arm, my Yuuki's bandage wrappings from where she had been hurt that day suddenly came completely undone. He acted as though he had only wanted to help her heal. Of course, I knew perfectly well that my precious little Yuuki would have easily bought it, but I knew better than to believe that to have been his real intention.

That was around when I had suddenly appeared in front of both that god awful sinner of a vampire Kaname Kuuran and my precious little Yuuki since I had actually approached the both of them right when Kaname first reached for Yuuki's elbow where she had been hurt. I was so ready to give that guy a piece of my mind for the personal attacks behind his words of so-called 'confirmation' to my precious Yuuki.

Yours Truly: It's the vampire hunters' duty to kill vampires, not yours.

That Kaname Kuuran just gave me a dirty look for defending myself against his words. Of course, he had a comeback following that dirty look of his towards me. The only job I had really had at the time was to be completely ready for said comeback from that Kaname Kuuran.

Kaname Kuuran: Then, tell me; why didn't you kill that Level E when you had the chance?

After questioning me about it, that Kaname Kuuran then had the nerve to just ignore the expression of pure shock which had planted itself upon my face in favor of just tending to my Yuuki's injury when he lifted up her elbow.

Kaname Kuuran (continued): This must be your injury from today. Hold still. I'll ease the pain.

At first, my Yuuki sounded confused to just what that Kaname Kuuran was talking about. That Kaname Kuuran suddenly held his lips to my Yuuki's precious wound on her elbow. My Yuuki grew nervous at Kaname's lips touching her elbow and blushed. I could see it very clearly on her face.

Yuuki Cross: K-Kaname.

Kaname Kuuran then looked back up at me.

Kaname Kuuran: Perhaps, Zero, you sympathized with him.

Alright, that did it. I could no longer not point my Bloody Rose anti-vampire gun at that god awful sinner that was Kaname Kuuran. His vampiress servant, Seiren May, responded to my action by pointing her beyond dangerous and exceedingly sharp fingernails at my neck.

Kaname Kuuran (continued): It's OK, Seiren. It's my fault. I said something that I shouldn't have.

A/N: you're damn right 'you said something you shouldn't have'. your life wouldn't have been enough of a payment for even just that much, dirtbag!

I lowered my Bloody Rose gun despite still wanting to shoot that Kaname Kuuran's head clean off. At least, Seiren May also lowered her fingernails once I lowered my anti-vampire gun. The Night Class, however, least of all, Hanabusa Aido, did not hesitate once to take that Kaname Kuuran's side, because of his clearly staged modesty.

Hanabusa Aido: How dare you point a gun at Lord Kaname. Tearing you to shreds right here wouldn't be enough.

A/N: I know for a fact that Kaname only apologized so that Zero would not shoot him. the Night Class might've bought that apology of his, but I knew that I didn't, not even for so much as a millisecond.

I looked in the direction from just behind me at Hanabusa and the other Night Class vampires.

Hanabusa Aido (continued): However, I will restrain myself while attending this academy. I don't wanna hinder the headmaster's pacifist ideology.

Hanabusa had his arms crossed as he lectured me about the basis of the academy's guarding principles. He uncrossed them while lecturing me about that Kaname Kuuran towards whom I actually had every right to feel nothing except hate.

Hanabusa Aido (continued): But, never forget; our respect for one person is what keeps us at this school, and he is Kaname Kuuran, a pureblood.

I looked back in my dearest Yuuki's direction as though to find out her reaction to finally having heard her beloved Kaname Kuuran's breed of vampire by then.

Yuuki Cross: A pureblood?

I knew I would never forget the look on my dear Yuuki's face upon hearing that her beloved Kaname Kuuran was a pureblood vampire. She looked as though she had originally never hoped to find about that Kaname Kuuran's vampiric origins that way. It was the absolute worst ever. I did not know about that Kaname Kuuran, but I knew that I certainly had not once wanted my precious little Yuuki to find out Kaname's vampiric lineage in such a manner.

My dear Yuuki then turned her head back in that Kaname Kuuran's direction to face him. The next thing I knew she asked him a question.

Yuuki Cross (continued): Is that true, Kaname?

I knew for a fact that my poor little Yuuki could have certainly asked to hear about her beloved Kaname Kuuran's breed of vampire under better and less shocking circumstances than Hanabusa telling her in front of the entirety of the Night Class by just blurting it out to her. I could just hear her thoughts upon learning of her beloved's vampire lineage saying something similar to that Kaname Kuuran having been the same kind of vampire which she had clearly heard about that had attacked me and my family four years prior just before I met her.

When I looked at Kaname Kuuran for his reaction to my dear little Yuuki finding out what kind of vampire he was, he did not look once like he had regret the terms under which she had found out about his breed of vampire. He only looked at her as though he thought that she would have had to have learnt the truth about her beloved Kaname Kuuran one day or the next. Exactly how did the guy even sleep during the day at all with those kinds of thoughts towards someone who loved him so much?

Kaname Kuuran: You look as if this is the first time you've heard this. Yuuki, are you afraid?

I watched my precious little Yuuki as her eyes began to tremble at that Kaname Kuuran for the first time since I had brought her back to the idiot headmaster's house when her beloved Kaname Kuuran had finally done something that she did not find appealing about him.

Yuuki Cross: To tell the truth, I guess that I've always been a little bit afraid of you. Even now, I'm still a little bit afraid.

I looked at my dearest friend, Yuuki, as she looked as though she were trying her hardest to still see that Kaname Kuuran as her hero. I did not know whether or not it was only me, but I had actually managed to see her faith in the good in her beloved Kaname Kuuran wavering just slightly. She almost appeared to be thinking that that Kaname Kuuran might not have been as redeemable as she had originally thought about him.

I continued to look in my dear Yuuki's direction as the Night Class students all looked ready to attack me from behind when there was a sudden clap from behind us all. It was Takuma, who was apparently far more focused on his birthday celebration than the matter for which my Yuuki and I had originally come to the Moon Dormitory.

Takuma Ichijo: Hey!

Then, the vampire who acted the most humane out of the whole Night Class chuckled as he continued to speak.

Takuma Ichijo (continued): Don't forget, everyone; this is my birthday party. You've all gotta celebrate. Yuuki and Zero are my precious guests, too.

I knew that he had only cared about his birthday party more than the welfare of everyone present during then, but I had to hand it to Takuma that his orders as the vice president of the Moon Dormitory certainly managed to calm the atmosphere down a bit… for a while.
