Kai's POV
The grounds of Balkov Abbey could be seen from where I was standing. Just a few more steps and I would be back there. While returning I had seen some men searching for me. I easily dodged them. There was no way I was returning like a silly puppy who tried running away but was caught and brought back. Just seeing that place made my mood foul. It was just boring black stone covered with snow and...
Aha. There he was. Now I could see a redhead walking towards me. No one else has such bright hair and that style. Tala also had his trademark smug expression on his face. I just casually leaned against a tree and let him take his time to reach me. Just seeing him gave me relief. How could someone look so cute and dangerous? It had begun to snow and I noticed a perfect snowflake get caught in his flaming red hair. The next one fell on the tip of his nose and he wiped it off with his sleeve.
His cuteness was killing me.
"Where were you? Any idea how long we have been searching?" He yelled even before reaching my side. Then in a softer voice said, "bae, usually when I get whipped and fall asleep on you, I expect you to show some decency and wait till I'm up. You could also help me scrub my back!"
He was cute until he opened his mouth.
"Be glad that didn't happen. I would peel those wounds open"
He opened his mouth to retort, but the expression on his face changed to one of worry. he brought his thumb to my cheek and asked, "What happened?" I remembered that I had a small cut on my face from what had happened a few hours ago. "Nothing." The lie sounded obvious even to me, but I was having a sudden urge to defend myself. Never in my life had I ever cared about what someone would think of me. But after meeting Tala, that had changed. When Zia threatened that she would spread the news of what I did, the first face that came to my mind was his. That initial look of disbelief, then a tinge of sadness, and later a look of pure disgust and hatred or fright when the reality would sink in. That one look would be enough to shatter me, and this truth horrified me.
"Spit it out Kai" I can't even if I wanted to... why was I feeling so guilty? I reminded myself that even tala kept things from me. He hadn't told me that Boris beat him. Two could play this game.
Our moment was ruined when a few men rushed toward us. I recognized them immediately. They were guards from the lower levels, dressed normally to blend in.
"Hiwatari. The Director wants to meet you" they moved closer to hold me, but I raised my hands and stopped them. They took the hint and walked around me to prevent me from escaping while I moved to see Boris.
I had never been terrified of the director. To me, he was just another adult who tried to control me but failed miserably. That was a few days ago. For a reason I can't point out, discomfort has begun to grip me whenever I get in his vicinity. The feeling was growing more intense with every passing day.
Boris probably didn't know about my rocky relationship with my grandfather... That might be the reason he treats me differently.
When I entered his office, it was empty. The only thing out of ordinary was a note on the desk. It read: Room 120.
Room 120.
That just sounded very similar, so familiar that it gave me goosebumps. But trying to recall it was useless, after staying here for a few days I had excepted that it was futile to even try remembering. Everything was too familiar, like a movie I had seen millions of times, but I still couldn't name it or its characters...
One word that described room 120? Dark.
The room was so pitch black that I couldn't see my hands if I kept them in front of my face. Maybe this place was made to evoke terror, yet this ambiance excited me. But this was no joke, Boris was here somewhere I could sense it. Just then a low metallic voice rumbled in the room. kill mode activate. I laughed at how childish this sounded, but within milliseconds every window in the room shattered, and a mechanical launcher pointed at me from each. In synch, hundreds of blades shot out at me from every angle. I had to duck. My only thought: I've brought my blade too, losers.
For the next few minutes all, I could hear was the sound of metal against metal. as I taped deeper into my bit beast's energy, my performance escalated. Now I could destroy the blades even before they were launched properly.
The game ended and I took a moment to admire my work. Everything was great.
Until I saw the ghosts.
