Chapter 42 (Activation)
Scene (Kuoh Academy Nurses Office)
"You…BITCH!" Kalawarner turns her victorious gaze from Issei, now toward the new hole in the wall. Sona and Issei do the same. Crunching sounds could be heard as we see a battle-filthy and battle hungry Riser Phenex, who has a look of pure rage as her scowl revealed grinding teeth under her curled lips. Riser then raises her arms in the air as her scowl, (once again), turns into a very vicious grin. Completely catching her entire body on Fire, Riser looks like something from the stuff of hellish nightmares. Feeling the killing intent, Issei wanted to do something. "I don't know what to do. That black fire could kill her, them, I don't know. If what everyone says is right, this stuff is deadly." Sona turns her gaze at Issei, who is now looking at one of his hands as it begins to catch fire.
At first it was just a small purple ember, but then, it burst into black flames, completely covering the lower arm of Issei. In his other hand was the instrument that Azrael gifted him. Now looking at the guitar, Issei thought. "I never asked her how to use this, do I just play it? Or is there something more to it?" Now holding the black warlock guitar properly, his playing arm, still bursting with black flames, (which didn't seem to harm the instrument, rather, it seemed as though the guitar was actually absorbing said flames), Issei turns the only knob that is on the stringed instrument.
The knob looks to be a volume control. It is decorated as a silver skull, matching the same ones that adorn the guitar strap. Sona is fascinated at what she is seeing. "Incinerate, I know that flame! Rias, you have some serious explaining to do, this may affect our friendship, being thrown under the bus like this!" Sona had a temporary frown, however, it was replaced with an excited smile the moment Issei touched the "volume control" knob.
Issei feels a strange rush of electricity, running through his entire body. This was not painful, however it was sobering to say the least. A quick and sudden burst of black flames shoot from Issei and the guitar which jump scares Sona, however she starts to giggle a bit shortly afterwards. "I knew it, that guitar is something else too… So interesting, damn Hyoudou, stop unintentionally trying to impress me, it's just all too much to take." Sona blushes but continues her observations. Issei hears a voice, a female yet mechanical sounding voice. "Issei Hyoudou. Verification measures, completed. System online. Fusion reactors, online. Weapon systems, online. Defensive countermeasures, online. Tracking systems, online. All systems are nominal. Welcome Issei Hyoudou. Scythe-Chan is my designation, as this unit is the user interface for Rubilacxe."
Issei holds the guitar closer, if only to verify that this thing is talking to him. "By your command, Issei." Slowly placing the guitar back down to where it was able to be played once again, Issei shakes his head back and forth for a moment, then thinks deeply. "Well, if Death-sama can read my mind, this thing probably can too." Okay then, Scythe-Chan was it? Do you erm, have any kind of non-lethal stopping capability?" Then, Issei feels a sudden urge to play a few notes. "Command recognized. Preparing for "Crowd Control" program, 341.56. Being in 3,2,1." "Well, here goes…wait did she say fusion reactor?" Loud and steady notes are blaring from the guitar. This is the Pineapple Anthem. (I will have the actual song posted on my discord, which might be some cool immersion while continuing to read this chapter.)
Sona's jaw has dropped almost to the floor, but she wasn't the only one affected. Riser's flames died down almost instantly as she seemed to be entranced with what Issei was doing. Kalawarner put both of her arms down and just stood where she was, looking at Issei with a mix of emotions. "What is this? It's beautiful, wordless, powerful, subtle, it also has the 80's vibe. Oh my, this brings me back! Oh, Issei, I am going to make you play other things for me or rather, to me, look at that finger work…" Blushing uncontrollably, Kalawarner begins to drool a bit from the side of her lips. Meanwhile, Issei seems to be in his own world, his eyes are closed, his head is moving from side to side with the beat of this song. Also, that smile is back.
Scene (Gregori)
"80's wave, nice one Issei!" Wearing what looks to be sweats and a white t-shirt, Azazel is now laying on his couch with his television remote in his hand. He seems to be focused on the guitar in question, as Issei's "concert" is being played on one of the governor's many monitors. "Kid, I'm a bit jealous. For years now, I wanted Azrael to let me borrow that, so I could experiment and find out what makes it tick, but no…instead, she gives it to you. Well, looks like it's working out nicely for you, glad I thought of it."
Hearing some rustling paperwork, we pan over to Penemue's desk. Sitting at her desk, the secretary is shaking her head displeasingly. "Azazel sama, I would like to point out that you indeed, did NOT think of such an idea. Your ego is beyond repair you know…" Looking from his monitor to now his secretary, Azazel scoffs, "well, I did think of it, however, Azrael beat me to the punch, therefore, I am not wrong, you are!" Standing from her desk suddenly, the woman looks down at the governor who is now shuddering. We now see a sadistic grin forming on the lips of Penemue. Meanwhile Azazel has a look of sheer terror.
