First a little update, I have been hearing things about Fanfiction going away so I wanted to let all of you know that this story is also posted on Wattpad and have been trying to upload everything on AO3 as well but I am new to that one so still trying to figure it all out. On AO3 I have the same user name and the story title is the same but I only have the first book up so far. I want to finish getting the rest of the chapters up this weekend with the first book and start working on getting this one up. So just a heads up in fanfiction does go away It is posted in other places. Anyways enjoy the chapter.
I had a chance to settle in on the bus but I could tell Phil was slowly spinning out of control and I was worried.
I took a breath before knocking on his office door.
"Can I come in?"
"Of course, how are you doing? How's the bus life treating you?"
"Not too bad, I like your team. They're good."
"That they are."
"How are you, Phil? You have been gone a lot since I joined you all here."
"I'm alright, I need answers."
"About what you saw when you got the GH325?"
"You know?"
"Mel told me what happened. I'm guessing you figured out where it came from."
"I did, and you knew."
"It's complicated, honestly I had no idea that Fury was using it on you and that is what part of our fight was about. I was mad that he didn't even talk to me about it knowing that we were not somewhere where using it would be a good idea. There are a lot of unknowns. All I know is you need to keep it on the bus, don't let anyone else find out Phil. People could be in danger if we let it get out. There is a lot going on right now and I don't know if any of us are safe. Keep your team close, and make sure you trust all of them. Also, know that Mel is here to keep an eye on you. Fury wanted to make sure you were alright and Mel was the best bet. No one knows you as she does. So when you find out everything that is going on, be willing to listen and know that nothing she has done is to betray you or anything like that."
"What is going on then?"
"More than what is safe for me to tell you right now. Just be careful with everything around you."
"Do you know where Fury is?"
"No, I have not talked to him since I kind of yelled at him and Hill. I was worked up."
"I have a meeting with Sitwell to see if he knows."
"Just be safe Phil, be careful who you go to for help."
"You help May and the others and I will see you soon."
"Be careful out there."
"I always am," he said as we walked out and he walked away from me.
"Not always" I whispered before making my way to the briefing room where Mel was with the guys and Simmons.
They were talking and Mel gave the briefing and Fitz got excited that it could be Thor.
"Have you talked to him?"
"No, the last time was right after I got home and then he was off again."
"If you can get a hold of him let me know," Mel told me before she walked out.
Once we landed I went with Mel and the boys to find out who had come and as we were driving a portal opened in front of us.
We were all out of the cars and watching then I saw her.
"I don't have a name." I heard Fitz say.
"Lady Sif" I walked towards her and she walked towards me.
"Rebekah, Thor's friend."
"Yes"
"Your world is in grave danger."
"What's new? Can you come with us and we can work together?"
"Thor trusts you so I will trust you."
"Come with me." We got in the car and made our way back to the bus.
Once we got back to the bus we got out before heading into the lab.
Coulson walked in and started to talk to Lady Sif and tell her that he was alive, but Thor and the others didn't know yet.
Then she started to tell us why she was here.
"Sorcery. She bends and shapes the will of men to her own purpose."
"Only men? Her powers don't work on women?"
"No. Men have an inherent weakness we do not share."
"No surprise there." I smile at May.
"I can't imagine what she's talking about," Fitz tells Ward.
Lady Sif continues to tell us more about her and how to stop her. Then how she got here, before Coulson told us to start looking for her.
We all go off to do what we need to do.
I was looking at the weapons that Fitz was working on with the others.
"These are good, Fitz, maybe I can see about you doing some work for Avengers weapons."
"Really?"
"Of course, you are one of the best. We like to work with the best."
"That would be amazing." Coulson then walked in and we got ready to leave to find her.
Things didn't go as well as planned and then Ward was taken by her.
As we got back to the Bus I went to talk with Skye.
After all of the others had left the room.
"How are you holding up?"
"I don't know, I'm sick of being stuck in this room. Simmons thinks that I need to stay here. Thinking at any moment of me getting up I am going to get worse or something. Now Ward is gone, I don't know what to do. I want to be able to help."
"Well, we will get Ward back so that you don't need to worry about that. You really do work with some of the best agents. I know that it will work out the best way possible. On Simmons being an over-worried mother hen. I'm afraid there is not much I can do about that. I will let you in on a little story. Back in the day Coulson and May were partners a lot and they were sent on a mission where they met Clint and brought him into SHIELD where he became one of the best agents. They all worked together all the time and my mom would work with them as well. Growing up they were my family. One day Clint was sent on a mission to take out one of the best Russian assassins there was. Natasha. Yet when he went to do it he couldn't. He saw something in her. So he saved her and helped her. In return, Mel and Phil were responsible for both of them. Slowly over time, they became one of our most amazing teams ever. Then when all of them worked together it was something else. I would love to watch Mel and Nat train together because it was something so insane and impressive to watch all at the same time. I met Nat not long after she joined SHIELD because she worked with my family and very quickly we became pretty close. Then at some point, she became very mother hen with me. Clint and some of the others call it her mama spider mode with me. She is supposed to be one of these people who brings fear and kicks butt. Who takes down multiple guys at once.
Yet to me she is kind, loyal, and strong. She is someone who sits with me when I am sick and makes sure I am alright. Who would talk to me at one in the morning just because I could not sleep. Who sat and waited while I tried on dress after dress for prom. Who held me while I cried about losing my mom, then was there for me with all that happened with my dad. She is always there trying to make sure I am alright and that I don't need anything. She has always been the mother hen to me from the time we met. While at times it can be annoying and all I know she does it because she cares and loves me more than anyone else I know. She has always come when I needed her and I am sure she always will because that is who she is.
So I know that at the moment Simmons being so over the top is annoying and all but she cares about you. They all care about you, I have seen that since I got here. Trip told me that they were close to losing you and how they all reacted to it. Mel was ready to beat the crap out of Quinn for you. The guys were willing to go to any length to find something to help you. Simmons was doing everything she knew to keep you alive. And Phil, I have seen it he would go to the ends of the earth for you Skye. He would do anything to help you. I know that you are both worried about the drug but I worked with it before this. I am going to have Mel keep me updated so that if anything happens I can help find a solution to the problem."
"I'm really glad I got to meet you, and maybe you are right. I found a team, a home with all of them, that is all I have ever wanted. Maybe I will enjoy it a little bit more from now on."
"That is good Skye"
"You know I kind of would love to see Natash all motherly to you."
"It's great as long as you're not trying to hurt me. I feel sorry for anyone that really hurts me because they will have a lot of people after them."
"Now that would be fun to watch."
"I will try to invite you when it happens."
"Sounds good to me." Simmons walked back in then.
"Coulson and May left, we found Ward at Caesars Palace."
"Ironic," I replied to that.
"Why?" Skye asks.
"Well our girl's trip, that is where we stayed."
"I want a girl's trip with you all. You guys do it in style."
"Well next time we go on one you both should really come. It would be fun, plus all of them are older than me. So it would be nice to have a few more around my age."
"I am so in," Skye told me.
"It sounds lovely, as long as there are no bad girl shenanigans."
"Bad girl shenanigans?"
"That is what she called me and when she shot the agent."
"You're the one that shot Sitwell?"
"Yes"
"I'm impressed, I have wanted to kick his butt more times than I can count. He drives me crazy."
"You don't like him?"
"That are a few agents I am not fond of Skye. As you work with SHIELD you will realize there are just some agents that you don't get along well with because there is just something about them."
"I will need to learn how to tell people apart."
"Don't worry you will get it." Simmons was checking on things with Skye now and I was watching when we felt the plane take off.
"We're taking off. Why are we taking off?"
"What is that pounding?"
"I'll go and investigate. You…"
"Stay put. I know."
"Let me go with you." We go to open the door but it is locked.
"Someone locked us in."
"Ward and Lorelei. Is there any way to open this from here?"
"No, I don't even know how we were locked in."
"Do you think the others are alright?"
"Mel can hold her own, same with Phil. Lady Sif should be alright as well."
"I hope you are right."
After a little Phil made his way down and opened the door.
"Where's Simmons?" She swings the fire extinguisher at him and he catches it.
"What the hell are you doing?'
"Sir, are you…you?"
"It's Phil."
"Of course I am! Fitz has Sif trapped in the cage. We need to unlock the door, get her out. What?"
"Coulson, they opened the airlock. She's gone."
"I'm afraid she was sucked out of the aircraft."
"Are you kidding? She's Asgardian. Sif's out there. Unlock it. Let her in. You. Come with me. I need your help."
"What about me Phil?"
"Watch Skye." Phil and Simmons left and I looked at Skye.
"That is what I deal with."
"That was me my whole life."
"All of them?'
"You have no idea." I watched her work and did what I could to help her.
Once the fights had happened and Sif had Lorelei I wanted to say goodbye to her.
"It was nice to see you again Sif, and maybe next time it won't be for work."
"That would be nice, I do find I enjoyed working with you again. I see why Thor talks so highly of you."
"Well, I'm glad he thinks so. I have been a little off lately."
"Don't be too hard on yourself, I can see you do a lot of amazing work."
"Thank you Sif, don't be too hard on yourself as well. You are pretty amazing yourself."
"Thank you, until next time."
"Until next time." I left Sif and went back to Skye and FitzSimmons.
We were all talking and Fitz was looking at his eye.
"I'm not saying you were weak. I'm saying all men are weak." Simmons tells him just as Phil walks in.
"Sir. I understand why you had to punch me. And I forgive you."
"Could I get a moment alone with Skye, please?"
FitzSimmons starts to walk out and I go to follow.
"Actually Rebekah, will you stay?"
"Alright." Phil shuts the door and Skye and I both sit down. I listen to them talk and then Phil tells her about the drug. I sit quietly and listen to them talk about it. When Phil tells Skye that they are going to get answers.
"I might have some for you." They both look at me.
"What do you know?"
"More than it is safe to say at the moment. I want you to know that at the moment you are doing better than anyone else who had the drug. There is so much to all of it and I can't tell you everything at this moment. But I know that this is not the only thing you should be worried about."
"What you were saying earlier."
"Phil I think… no I know SHIELD is compromised. There are agents who are on the wrong side and you need to be so careful. You can't say anything but Fury put May on this team to watch you and make sure you had no side effects from the drug. I know that all of this is so much to take in and I'm not even giving you much to go on. Just know that I don't know who can be trusted at this point in time and you need to watch your backs."
"May knows?"
"Some, not as much as I do. Fury told her just enough to get her to join the team, to keep you safe. She had a hard time because of what happened in New York to you. She blamed herself, I blamed myself but we get a second chance with you and I promise I will tell you everything but Mel is dropping me off soon so I can get back to my other job of babysitting the Avengers. But Phil please just be careful, and only trust the people who you know you can. Be careful with anyone that you are not sure of."
"What is going on?"
"I am pretty sure it is Hydra."
"Like Captain America?"
"Yes, Skye and I have no idea how deep all of this is so just be careful with everything. If you work with anyone outside of your team work with Trip, he knows more just like I do and he is on our side. You can trust him and the rest of my team. I wish I could stay with you and help you here. But I do need to go back and try to stop things from happening because things are about to not be great. I do know I will do all I can to help everyone."
"Rebekah, promise me you will be careful."
"I will Phil, plus I have the Avengers to have my back as well as my team. You guys be careful though."
"We will," Phil tells me before we finish our conversation.
The next day we are in New York and they are dropping me off. We are all in the cargo bay so we can say goodbye, even Skye was allowed to come.
"Thank you for having me, I enjoyed working with all of you."
"Come back anytime."
"We would love to spend more time with you," FitzSimmons told me.
"I will, that would be a lot of fun. Plus I need ideas for things for the Avengers."
"We are happy to help with that," Fitz says.
"Nice to see you again Ward."
"You as well"
"Skye, it was a pleasure to meet you. I look forward to hanging out again."
"I do as well, maybe next time I won't be stuck in bed."
"Then we can have some real fun." We hug
"Be safe and call me for anything you need."
"I will, promise." We whisper in each other's ears.
Once we pull back I walk to Mel and hug her as well.
"I'm glad you are doing well with this. I also told Phil and Skye some, don't be mad. I will tell them more later."
"I know"
"I love you, Mel"
"I love you, my love"
Pulling away I walk to Phil and he pulls me into a hug.
"I am so glad you are alright."
"I am as well."
"Please be safe"
"You as well"
"Call if you need us."
"I will, you as well Ladybug."
"I love you, Phil"
"I love you" We pull away from each other and I smile at all of them.
"I hope to see you all soon but next time maybe for some fun. Be safe out there."
With the last goodbye, I get off and head home for the first time in two weeks.
Walking into the tower I see Nat there waiting for me.
"How was your mission?"
"Not too bad."
"You were gone longer than planned."
"I know, it was nice working with Mel and then they were dealing with an Asgardian and I just thought that I should stay longer. One of them I had met when I met Thor. Plus they needed female agents to help anyway."
"The reason?"
"The other Asgardian can control men with her voice or touch."
"Everyone alright?"
"Yes, everything was alright when I left. But I enjoyed being with the team. It was kind of nice to work with other people I have never worked with before. But I really did love it."
"May's alright being back in the field?"
"She was doing pretty well from what I can tell. I think she missed it more than she let on and more than she realized. She is an amazing agent and it was good to see her back out there helping people like she used to. I am seeing more and more of the old Mel as time goes on. She's still in there Nat."
"I'm glad she is doing better."
"By the way the next girls' trip we go on we have two new ladies to invite."
"Really?"
"Yes they are on Mel's team and I really like them. I think you would get along with them as well. Simmons is really smart and so is Skye but Skye has a fun personality in the fact that she finds trouble."
"So another you, just what we would need."
"Don't you know it?" Nat and I continue to talk and I enjoy just relaxing some after being gone and the crazy few weeks I had.
