Chapter 10: Names & Future
Rosemary stood in front of her mirror but facing sideways to examine her bump. It was still small to her but then again she felt like it was huge. Maybe it was just her impatient self wanting to give birth and hold her little baby in her arms. Oh to have a little one in her arms is a dream she had made herself let go of in the past, but to have the dream back was beyond an impeccable descriptive story that anyone could have written.
She threw on her sweater for warmth (she had been extra cold the past couple of days) and made her way down to the kitchen where she smelled her favorite meal made by her one favorite person. Lee makes sunny side up eggs with toast and crispy bacon, cup of tea to add. "You really did not have to do all this, Lee."
"Rosie I really don't mind." Lee greeted her with a morning kiss. "I like doing this for you."
"Oh well I know someone who is going to get a good dinner. Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow."
"When?"
"That is the surprise." Rosemary sat at the table and picked her fork up. "The nursery is looking fabulous."
"The crib and rocking chair are coming out great too," Lee sat with her at the table. "Any specific color for either the crib or the chair?"
"Oh I have to think about that a little more." Rosemary. She paused when she felt movement again. It was a little more movement now. More than the fluttering wings of a bird, at least to Rosemary. She dropped her fork and instantly took hold of Lee's hand and placed it on her abdomen where she felt the movement. "Can you feel that?"
Lee waited a moment for something, anything. He only had to wait thirty seconds before he felt something. It was very light to him but he knew it was something that was kicking or pushing against his wife's body. "Wow! That's our baby!"
"Right? They're already a little dancer in training." Rosemary nearly cried. "Lee, we still need to discuss names for the baby."
"We have plenty of time, sweetheart."
"I know but I'd like to make that one less thing to do come March when the baby arrives. I mean I already have a boy name picked out but your opinion is needed." She expressed as Lee took the chair next to her. "But a girl is a different story. I've had nothing in mind for the longest time."
"The only name I had for a short time...Well...No, you'll make a face."
"No! Tell me!"
"Maude."
"Maude." Rosemary blinked. "Maude. Maude? That sounds so—"
"I know, I know. We have time to find a better name."
Lucas waited outside of Elizabeth's home ready to walk her to the schoolhouse this morning with his umbrella ready in hand. She bid a goodbye to Little Jack and Laura and was coming down the steps, quickly, to get under the umbrella.
"I'm surprised Jack was able to wake up so early after going to sleep so late." Elizabeth commented. "And with you."
"I'll be asleep in my office in about an hour." Lucas and her kept in pace together under the umbrella. "So I have a proposition."
"Oh and what is that?"
"Your spring wedding."
"My spring wedding?" Her inner teacher called out his wording. She smirked, he laughed.
"Our spring wedding." He chuckled. "Spring wedding, fall honeymoon. Late summer or early fall honeymoon. I know school starts around that but I thought if we timed it right then maybe you wouldn't miss the school year as much." He shrugged nonchalantly. "Just an idea."
"I'll think about it, but it does sound like an idea that fits for both of us." She kissed his cheek. "Lucas, sometime can we get together and have dinner at my place? I wanted to ask you something important."
That seemed to be out of the blue for Elizabeth. Even for her. "Of course." But now for the next few days Lucas' mind was going to be wondering what the important thing was.
