Chapter 14
The One That Is The Brunch But From Hidan's POV
.
.
Hidan was freaking out.
First of all, Sakura's shirt. Wait, no—the kiss! Ugh, and Nagato.
Rushing home, he replayed the day in his head, trying to pinpoint the moment he lost his mind.
Konan had posted again that day and since he had no self control, Hidan looked. There were two plates filled with an assortment of food and a person cropped out from the shoulders up. Nagato wasn't tagged, but from that shirt alone, Hidan could tell that fucker's lame ass sense of fashion from a mile away. The restaurant was tagged as well and so, like a good sex slave, Hidan shot a text to Sakura—only to find she was already at the place.
Without any explanation he jumped into Deidara's shower for a quick rinse, much to the blonde's annoyance, and then dipped out the front door in nothing but his shoes and a loosely wrapped towel around his narrow waist. Luckily, Deidara was still nursing the hangover from hell and couldn't chase Hidan out and stop him from causing a scene.
About an hour ago, Kakuzu had driven Hidan's car to bring them all breakfast burritos before leaving with Kisame to do whatever the fuck it was they did together and so, parked across the street sat his black car. Once inside, he reached towards the backseat and grabbed the backpack that contained a pair of black jeans and a plain black shirt. The extra set of clothes were mainly for when Hidan felt like going out after work and didn't want to smell like food. He dug a little deeper and then frowned.
No boxers.
Although it wouldn't be the first time he went commando, it didn't mean he preferred it. Kisame pantsing him in highschool stopped that habit real quick.
The jeans were yanked on first because his windows weren't tinted and god forbid someone walked by and saw Little Hidan flopping about, the shirt could wait until he got to his destination because a glance at the time told him he was fucking late.
A quick location input and Hidan was speeding down the streets and all but drifting into the restaurant's parking lot. One spritz of cologne later and he was dashing through the parked cars.
The restaurant's door chimed and he caught his breath while looking around. He spotted Nagato's bright ass red head a few tables down along with Konan, who had just been getting up but froze when she saw him walk in.
A beat of a tension passed between them before someone crying snatched his attention away.
One of the younger waiters was crying to his coworkers about a girl seated outside that he dropped orange juice all over. Hidan snorted and looked in the direction of the patio to see the scene he was describing. His eyes widened. Of fucking course.
Without wasting another second of his attention on the couple inside, Hidan rushed around the tables towards the patio.
"Sakura?"
Oh fuck, her shirt was completely see through. Magenta eyes snapped up when she turned to fully face him–the shock and humiliation were written plainly on her face and Hidan surged forward.
To her credit, Sakura didn't stop him when he leaned down to press a chaste kiss to the corner of her mouth. His heart beat wildly in his chest and despite strategically angling it so it looked like a full on kiss to anyone inside. Briefly, Hidan's protective feelings were eclipsed by thoughts of how it would feel to kiss her properly. It felt like the most natural thing in the world to turn his face only slightly and move his lips in a way that would've had her opening up to him. The hand that wasn't loosely holding her wrist itched to reach up and thread itself into her hair and tug.
"Nagato's inside." He said lowly, worried his voice might crack under the restraint. Worried that he might crack. "I'll be right back."
Without a single word from her, he left.
Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck! Shit shit shit shit.
He proceeded to mentally curse all the way back to the car. That went beyond any urge he had around her thus far and if he was honest, gauging Nagato and Konan's reaction before leaving was the furthest thing from his mind. He was hot and it had nothing to do with the weather outside.
The line he just toed was dangerous, but there was a time and place for everything and right now, Sakura's titties were exposed to the world. The kiss and his questionable decisions could be put on hold until later because there was no way he was going to be able to sit next to her and respectfully look her in the face for however long she wanted to stay there! There had to be something in the car that he could give her.
Despite knowing there were no extra clothes in the backpack, Hidan yanked open the backdoor of his car and checked anyways. Nothing–as expected. He tossed it back in with more force than necessary and slammed the door. The trunk was his only option and he knew what cursed shit remained in there….
Amongst the random car shit and scattered water bottles, stuffed in the corner was Kisame's Halloween costume from the previous year that he gifted to Hidan when he realized it was 2 sizes too small. A Bigfoot costume.
Hidan was beginning to believe he was in his own personal hell. After all this, he deserved so many fucking points.
He tugged off his shirt, not caring if any passersby saw his pale complexion reflecting the sun's rays, and jammed his legs in first. The damn thing smelled like how any old costume would smell after a year confined in a corner—like weird plastic and musk. The inside material scratched against his chest, but there was no time to be dramatic and yell into his backseat at the unfairness of it all. Sakura sat waiting with a wet shirt on.
Heat crawled up his neck. Her top. The kiss.
Hidan allowed himself 3 seconds to think of it before slamming the trunk and returning inside. This time he did check in Konan's direction to find her honeyed eyes already watching him. Even after looking away, he could still feel her gaze follow him all the way out the door.
Once back outside, Hidan saw Sakura talking to a redheaded girl that he didn't notice earlier during his urgent and impulsive decision making. They were sharing a laugh and Hidan wondered why she was there if this was supposed to look like a date.
He made his way to them and nudged Sakura who practically jumped. It came as no surprise to him when she asked why he was wearing this thing and he swallowed the snarky response: Would you rather I stand here shirtless? That definitely would have not been very cash money of him, especially when every passing second was a testament of will against the lizard brain in his head whispering, just a quick glance.
"I was cold so I went to change," Which was the dumbest excuse he could come up without plainly saying, it's so I don't have to look at your tits, I'm trying to be a respectful human fucking being. "I figured you could borrow my shirt though."
Finally, she took the shirt. A soft smile accompanied with a teasing remark that helped stop whatever snark, anxiety, and inappropriate thoughts from mixing into a horny cocktail in his brain.
It was a relief to see that she wasn't put off by the kiss, but some part of him itched for a reaction, a display of emotion to let him know he wasn't the only one thinking about it still. Sakura only made a comment about the weather, and before he could think of a response, someone was saying some stupid shit behind them.
The young waiter that he had seen crying inside was standing there looking ready to fight. Hidan didn't think how it must've looked to any outside—dressed like a fucking maniac—so he scowled and sized up the smaller man with an intimidating glance. Couldn't the kid see he was familiar with this party?
"Sir, I'm going to ask you to take a step back from these ladies before I have to call security."
Clearly not.
Losing his patience, Hidan glared. "What the fuck are you talking about."
The waiter took a step back just when Sakura maneuvered herself slightly in front of Hidan with a tug of his furry sleeve. "No, no. He's my boyfriend." She explained in a patient tone.
Realization and then horror passed across the waiter's face and then he was apologizing. After he explained it was his first day, Hidan felt guilt break up his irritation. When he offered him a free meal, Hidan waved him off. Poor dude, he thought.
However, the friend that had stood silently on the side spoke up, asking that her cousin inside be sung to since it was his birthday. With the cunning smile she wore on her lips, it wasn't hard for Hidan to connect the dots. This was one of the few friends who knew of their situation and despite her being related, was on Sakura's side.
Once the waiter had agreed and left, Hidan moved from behind Sakura to ask, just to confirm it. "Nagato's your cousin?"
Keen red eyes flickered between her friend and him before answering. "Yes."
"Oh…that sucks." He couldn't imagine being related to an asshole like that.
Sakura laughed behind him and he looked back at her. The black tee was far too big for her small frame and it did strange things inside his chest to see her in it. Black, he decided, suited her. Particularly something of his in black.
"Yes, well, he has been rather disappointing recently." The girl acknowledged. "I'm hoping Sakura's newer prospects fair differently though."
"Hidan." A voice called that came from neither of the two women next to him. The girl's eyes directed his attention to the table where a phone sat propped up, displaying a friendly smile on some blonde chick. "Are you an Aries?" She asked.
Sakura whirled to him. "You don't have to answer that."
"I am." He answered anyway. Was it that obvious?
"Double Aries." The unknown girl hummed. "Good compatibility." She muttered as she typed on a laptop.
Sakura introduced her friends before Hidan had the chance to ask the blonde to elaborate. Astrology was one of his guilty pleasures.
"Shouldn't we get going?" Sakura abruptly said once the introductions were complete. She hastily gathered her belongings and looked expectantly between them. Despite fixing the wardrobe malfunction, maybe she wanted to leave because of the costume he wore. Admittedly, it wasn't ideal to look like the perfect couple when your supposed boyfriend was dressed like Big Foot.
"True." Karin agreed, not missing a beat. She also gathered her belongings before placing a few bills on the table.
While they said their goodbyes to Ino, Hidan shimmied his arm into the costume to grab his wallet from his pant's pocket. Wiggling it out of the sleeve hole, he plucked two twenties and dropped it onto the other bills. First day of work and the waiter had to deal with this on top of crying? He hoped the money was enough of an apology for his attitude.
"Ready?" Sakura called.
Luckily the suit had it's own pockets and once his wallet was put away, he reached a tentative hand towards her. "Yeah, let's get outta here." He hooked their fingers lightly together, ignoring how his heart sped up just as fast as when he kissed her.
From the patio's door, they could see the profile of the couple inside. At their entrance, Konan slid her attention to them, the gaps between the singing employees not hiding her searching gaze. Nagato looked split between being confused and frustrated. Even if he didn't see Sakura with him, it was enough to satisfy Hidan–knowing a guy like Nagato wouldn't like making a spectacle of himself.
They exited just as the singing neared it's end, walking past a few cars before Karin turned on them.
"Did you see!" She exclaimed with a grin.
"No, I didn't look." Sakura answered, oddly calm. Or maybe she was upset? Either way, her demeanor rubbed at him. This was different from the other times when they were close to Nagato, she was animated then, whether it was fear or excitement. Maybe the kiss did bother her and now that they were out of view, her true feelings were starting to show.
"He looked pissed as fuck." Hidan answered, rubbing soothing circles onto the back of her hand before letting go. The urge to fix what might've been wrong ate at him, but he shoved it down, remembering his place within her life. Just a fake boyfriend, not even sure if they could be considered friends.
Karin laughed, clearly entertained, but suddenly stopped. "Wait, I didn't get a dessert."
"That's what you're thinking about? After all that?"
"Sakura, dessert is important. Especially when it's free."
"Amen to that." Hidan nodded. The girl had her priorities straight. "I can get you some dessert, err, well I can give it to Sakura to give to you. Unless you wanna come by my job and get some."
There was a tug at his sleeve from Sakura. "Where do you work?" She asked.
"Sarutobi's." He answered after a beat, sparing her a look before turning his attention to Karin again. Okay, so maybe she wasn't mad.
"I've been to that restaurant before!" Karin exclaimed, excited. "They have thee best double chocolate mousse cake. I would literally sell my first born child for a crumb."
Hidan knew exactly what cake she was talking about and agreed, it was good as fuck. The extra desserts at the end of the day always got thrown out if the workers didn't want to take them home. It seemed like a reasonable thing to offer her some since, why the fuck not? Not like he was using it as another excuse to see Sakura again, absolutely not. Not even when he nudged her asking if it was alright if he dropped them off at her place.
Sakura nodded with a little one shoulder shrug. The collar of his shirt shifted and exposed the smooth skin across her collarbone. Hidan swallowed. It was not like he hadn't gotten an eyeful when he first arrived, but something about his shirt… it was doing some cursed shit to him. Some cursed, this is feeling like an 1800s moment and I just saw the skin of your ankle for the first time.
It took extra effort to remember whatever Karin was listing off when his mind wanted to wander towards other things, but he managed. He was only half paying attention when she said goodbye, a mischievous glint in her eye before she turned to leave.
Out of all of Sakura's friends he met so far, he liked Karin the most despite spending the least amount of time with her. That mischievous look she gave spoke volumes to his lizard brain.
"I'm gonna walk home." Sakura said, interrupting the string of thoughts.
Hidan rolled his eyes and drew back the arm she still held onto, throwing it over her shoulders instead to turn her in the direction of his car. "Like fuck you are."
No way was she gonna try to pull that dumb shit again. She should've known by now he was never going to let her walk somewhere by herself if he had something to say about it. Fuck whatever time of the day or night it was, he didn't care, he was going to accompany her home.
They joked back and forth during the brief walk to his car and like a gentleman, he unlocked and opened the passenger door for her. "For the mistress."
"Someone's hard at work to earn more points." She grinned as she ducked into the car. "However I'm not sure how I feel about giving them out when I'm sitting in the car that landed us in this situation."
Hidan blanched as he closed the car door.
Fuuuuuuuuuck. That thought had never crossed his mind and holy shit what a shitty thing to overlook. Rushing to the driver's side and sitting down he looked intensely at her.
She shrank back in her seat. "What?"
"You don't have like…" What was the proper term for what happened? Despite talking about it briefly last night at Deidara's, was she really okay? He tightened his grip on the steering wheel before continuing. "...PTSD or something shitty like that from that… night… do you? 'Cuz I can call a Lyft for you and wait 'til it gets here if you don't want me to give you a ride." He sighed, the concerned look being replaced with one of frustration. "Fuck, I didn't even think of that."
She laughed. "I'm fine, don't worry—I'm only messing with you." She patted his arm. "But it's sweet you'd think of that. Maybe you do deserve some points."
For his benefit she could be lying and so he searched her face, but found nothing but genuine amusement. All traces of the subdued demeanor gone, replaced by her familiar mirth and smile. Okay, he thought, I like this face more.
He grinned. "I'll find other ways to get my points."
To his surprise, the drive back had not been filled with questions from her, not about the kiss, Nagato, or the suit like he expected. Based purely off their previous dates, he was bracing himself for a whole run down of what happened, but Sakura just sat there quietly, content to look out the window.
After last night's kotatsu situation, Hidan was beginning to accept that whatever attraction he felt towards Sakura was now taking on a different shape. At first he thought it was only one sided, however when she showed up and didn't leave when she lived right next door… Hidan didn't think it was out of the realm of possibility that she might be feeling the same.
"I've never been to Sautorbi's." Sakura spoke once he turned onto her street.
It broke the train of thought and silence. He spared her a glance before looking back towards the street. No reckless driving while Sakura was in the car. "It's a cool place. I'm one of the line cooks."
"Oh." She paused. "I didn't imagine you in that sort of position. Though now thinking back on it, it makes sense." A little chuckle. "Sorry for calling you a food snob."
He slid up along the curb in front of her home and parked. Deidara's towel needed to be returned before the blonde recovered and came hunting for it. He needed to go home first and ask Kakuzu if he had any cream for what was undoubtedly a rash forming on his chest from the damn costume. "You can add some points to my roster instead of apologizing."
"Do you want to come inside?" She offered after a moment.
What ? Any thoughts of cream, costume, or Deidara's towel swiftly vacated his mind. He hadn't been inside her house since they broke in all those weeks ago. "I—"
"So I can give you your shirt back and you can change." She then added.
Swallowing the words that would've found himself in her home, Hidan looked at his shirt for what felt like the millionth time. The fluttering feeling it instilled within him was still there and he furrowed his brows in thought. He didn't want to take it back, he wanted her to keep it, to wear it and maybe look at it later and perhaps think of him. "No, it's fine. I have like 20 fucking more of the same black shirt at home. I won't miss one."
"... Okay." If she was relieved he declined the offer inside, she didn't outwardly show it. She opened the door. "I'll see you around."
Around? Around ? Around seemed too damn long and after seeing her for a record 3 days in a row, he wasn't going back to waiting weeks for a crumb. "I'll see you tomorrow." He said instead and she paused, looking back at him surprised.
"Tomorrow?"
A metaphorical mini Kisame appeared on his shoulder, a little devil whispering, Yes! Yes, tell her it's a date, tell her you want to see her again, and you want to lean down and kiss her sensele—
A little Deidara, also a little devil, popped on the opposite shoulder saying, No, tell her you don't want to see her ever again because this is stupid and she might just be using you and also Hidan you prick, this is the third towel you've stolen from me and I am tired of it. I'll be stealing your balls next—
Sakura's friend, Karin, appeared in front of him as an angel, wagging her finger, Men, she chided, just tell her you'll see her tomorrow when you drop off the pastries! Offer her some too, she likes sweets. But you already knew that, didn't you?
Either his hangover was back or he needed medical attention immediately. He leaned on the console between them. "To drop off the desserts for your friend." He elaborated. "And… I can bring you something too. You like sweet shit too, don't you?"
Slowly she nodded, then smiled, and Hidan wanted to touch her face. "Yeah, I do." She hummed in thought before answering. "Just bring me whatever you like."
"Alright." He nodded, and leaned back fully into his seat. "Tomorrow then. It might be late, so I'll text you."
"Okay." And she left.
And now Hidan was speeding home, one part because of the suit, but mostly because he wanted to plant his face into his pillow and yell while kicking his feet back and forth.
Making it home in record time, he practically kicked the door in. "KAKUZU!" In an awkward attempt to free himself from the furry confines of this spirit Halloween prison, Hidan laid on the floor to arch back—but the zipper was just out of reach. There was never a time where he cursed his own muscles, but there was a first for everything unfortunately.
Kakuzu's head popped out from his room, hair tied up into a messy bun on his head and he had his reading glasses on. "Shut up. I'm in a Zoom meeting right now."
"Help me take this damn off before I cause a scene."
Unamused with whatever antics Hidan had gotten himself into that day, Kakuzu returned into his room and closed the door.
"Bitch." Hidan picked himself up from the floor and pulled his arms in from the sleeves, twisting the fabric so the zipper was near his front.
There was a vibration in his pant's pocket and it spurred him to frantically thrust a hand out the collar of the suit and aggressively yank down the zipper, finally freeing himself. Fuck, his chest was a bright agitated red.
After kicking the costume off his feet, he checked his phone—it wasn't who he hoped it was.
"Fuck off." Hidan spoke aloud as he typed, once again declining Zetsu's plea to cover his evening shift.
Nothing from Sakura. Again. And he felt silly waiting for something from her—again .
There was no reason—no logic—that could be applied here. Hidan frowned, he needed to chill the fuck out and gather his marbles.
The phone vibrated again and he was back to his messages in an instant. Fuck gathering marbles.
Sakura: +15
Fifteen! Hidan laughed and wandered into his room, kicking off his pants before falling into bed. The day had been exceedingly long despite it barely being noon and even though he saw Konan and Nagato, he found there were other things to think about. Like the not so accidental kiss and Sakura in his shirt.
He grinned. Today was alright in his book.
"Why is your door open when you're naked." Kakuzu stood in the doorway with an ornate knife in his hand.
"It's my room. If you don't wanna see my ass, don't look in." Hidan shot back. "Why the fuck you carrying that pirate dagger?"
"This is a letter opener you fool. You said you needed help getting out of that rug you were wearing and I couldn't find my scissors."
"It was Kisame's costume from last year."
"Why were you wearing it?"
"I gave Sakura my shirt."
Kakuzu's frown went through the 5 stages of grief. "Do I even want to know?"
"Don't ask stupid questions if you don't want stupid answers."
"You're defenseless and I have a weapon. You really want to be a smartass right now?"
Finally looking back, Hidan gave his roommate a flat stare. "I fucking dare you."
Kakuzu took an intimidating step forward and Hidan sprang up onto his feet.
"You think just because your dick is out I won't do it?"
"You gonna fight a man with his dick swinging around?"
"It wouldn't be the first time."
Within the next second, Hidan had a fresh pair of boxers on. Kakuzu looked down his nose with a smug smirk.
"So you saw the girl again?" He asked, which surprised Hidan. Usually Kakuzu avoided furthering any conversation revolving around Sakura.
"I did." Hidan began while searching his other drawers for a more comfortable outfit. An assortment of clothes were presented but all he could focus on were the folded black shirts. He grabbed one and a pair of 5" highlighter yellow shorts.
"Those things are ridiculously ugly." Kakuzu noted as Hidan pulled them on.
"I can take everything off again if that's what you're tryna say." When his roommate didn't respond, Hidan continued about Sakura. "So long story short, I kinda kissed her today and before you say shit , it wasn't on the mouth. It was sorta on the cheek. Kinda. More like on the corner of her mouth. Oh, and her shirt was fucking see through, some waiter dropped juice on it I think."
"Why is it that every time you step out of this house, you stumble into the most chaotic scenarios. Are you just making this shit up at this point? Would I be doing the world a favor by locking you in a box somewhere?"
"Maybe." Hidan shrugged. "But anyways, Konan was there too with that prick, but we didn't really interact. And Sakura is friends with Nagato's cousin."
Kakuzu grunted. "Like this whole situation couldn't get any more bizarre."
"That's what I'm sayin'. And I'm bringing her cakes from our job tomorrow."
"This is sounding an awful lot like you two are dating. Which is dumb."
"Yeah, well, when I decide to start making smart decisions, you'll be the first person I look for."
"Don't bother. Knowing what you're up to is already too much involvement on my part."
Hidan rolled his eyes and flopped back onto his bed. "Seems a little too fucking late for that, don't you think? Might as well tell you I think I'm starting to actually like her."
"Sometimes I wonder if there really is anything in that head of yours besides being horny and stupid." Kakuzu shook his head. "Whatever. I'm in my meeting still so try not to get yourself into any more trouble for the next hour while I leave you unsupervised."
"Yes, mother." Hidan called out to his retreating friend.
Left alone again, the memory of kissing Sakura played on a constant loop, causing ceaseless butterflies to flutter about. Enough that he wanted to throw up.
Someone needed to be the target of his plight. Kakuzu made his disinterest painfully clear, Itachi was unnerving and Deidara would most likely outright ignore him if he didn't rip his head off about the towel first.
Hidan opened his texts. I think I like Sakura, he typed out and sent without a second thought. He triple checked it though, making sure he didn't accidentally send it to Sakura herself.
After last night I'm not even surprised, came Kisame's swift response followed up by a second text consisting of nothing but an assortment of emojis.
H: shut up
K: no one else to vent your woes too huh? I know you too well
The bastard really did.
H: you wanna hear about my day w your bestie or nah
K: give me 30 min and I'll call
K: i'm in a book club meeting rn w kakuzu
Hidan blinked at the text after rereading it twice. He threw his head back and laughed.
A/N: I liked the idea of seeing it all from Hidan's POV considering he's a bit more emotional than Sakura. Hidan is always fun and easy to write and I hope you enjoyed it! Reviews are always appreciated and I'll see you in the next chapter!
