A/N: Sorry for the delay. I had a few shows to catch up on. My DVR was filling up and then found out the new season of Cobra Kai dropped earlier in the month so I had to watch that too. All caught up so back to writing.
Chapter 18
Elizabeth Webber was in heaven. There weren't too many times in her recent memory where she had been able to just soak in a tub with the jets on full blast with a glass of wine in hand. The jets were soothing her aching muscles. She hadn't felt this relaxed in what seemed like forever. She had only used the jets on the tub one other time. It seemed she never had enough time in her day.
She was glad that Jason suggested it. He was so thoughtful. She couldn't believe the change in him. He was so attentive to her every need. It was almost too good to be true. She had to keep pinching herself to make sure she wasn't going to wake up from this dream.
She couldn't believe that he asked her to marry him. It was definitely unexpected. The ring he gave her was breathtakingly beautiful. The rubies on the outer halo were her favorite part of the ring. They were unique, just like him.
She couldn't wait to show it off to the girls later on. She would definitely be asking Epiphany and Terry to be part of the bridal party. She would also have to call Robin and Patrick. At one time, Patrick had been her only friend and she would always cherish that. Robin, despite being an ex of Jason's managed to make her way into her heart too. She was like a sister to her and she missed them living so close. She would definitely have them at the wedding. Maybe ask Robin to be a bride's maid as well.
She would give anything to have Emily by her side while she married her brother. She never really approved of her and Jason because of Lucky, but she figured she would have grown up by now and got over that. She still loved her regardless. Maybe she was a sucker. Who knows. Her bridal party would wear some type of green. Perhaps a hunter green and a dark hunter green. Elizabeth always loved that color. Now she just had to decide who she should ask to be her maid of honor.
She thought about Terry being the maid of honor. They had a long history together. However, the person who had always been there for her no matter what, even if she did it in a gruff way, was Epiphany. She always looked out for Elizabeth in her own special way.
Epiphany would act like she didn't care but then do something so remarkable for someone she loved that you couldn't even believe it. She was a blessing in disguise. So she would ask the ladies tonight. Elizabeth's mind continue to wander until the warmth of the water and the relaxation of the jets lulled her off to sleep.
Jason Morgan had been anxiously waiting Danny's arrival for the past hour. After the boys got their pizza, they ran back upstairs to play their game. Elizabeth was upstairs getting ready. So that left Jason with nothing to do but wait. Jason wasn't very good at waiting or being patient.
At 7pm right on the nose, the doorbell rang. Jason ran over to the door and opened it.
As soon as the door opened, Jason saw nothing but a blonde blur, and then Danny's arms were wrapped around him. "Daddy!" Jason instinctively returned the hug. "I missed you so much Daddy. Mommy said you were in heaven, but that they made a mistake. I am so happy they made a mistake. I love you daddy."
"Hey buddy!" Jason greeted his son. "I missed you and I love you too." Jason choked back the tears.
Jason looked at Sam. "Thank...thank you for bringing him by."
Sam just nodded. She was being unusually cold towards him. He wondered what was going on.
"Hey buddy, the boys are upstairs playing a video game. Why don't you go see if they will give you a turn. Later on Aiden will be teaching us how to bake cookies."
"Yay, cookies!" Danny exclaimed. Then he took off upstairs forgetting all about his father.
"Thanks again Sam. I appreciate you letting me still be in his life."
"Of course, you are his father Jason. I would never keep you from your boy." Unlike some people, she thought.
"Anyway, hopefully you and Dante can take advantage of the free time," Jason said awkwardly.
"Yeah, we will," Sam said with annoyance. She wasn't sure why she was feeling like this. She had the best man in the world, and yet she still felt that pull towards Jason. It killed her and now he was with Elizabeth, and it made her want to scream. She wanted to claw Elizabeth's eyes out. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Oh, and she was a scorned woman for sure.
"Jason..." Sam trailed off."
"What?" Jason just stared at her for a moment. When she didn't respond he probed her again. "Sam just ask your question," Jason said with intensity. The coldness in his eyes staring back at her sent a chill down her spine.
Sam lost her nerve. "Never mind. I am going to go. I will pick Danny up in the morning."
"No, what were you going to say?" Jason grabbed her arm to stop her.
"It doesn't matter anymore," Sam said sorrowfully.
"Just tell me Sam," Jason demanded.
"Why her?" Sam asked with disdain.
"What?"
Sam asked again. "Why her Jason?"
"Elizabeth? I am not sure what you mean? You know I've always loved Elizabeth."
"That's not what I mean. You were never very quick on the uptake were you? Dumber than a box of rocks. I swear," Sam said shaking her head with disgust. The jig was up. She couldn't do it anymore. She wanted to punch him right where he stands.
"You know Jason, I would have been fine if you moved on with Britt, or Carly, or any other woman in town, but you just had to get back together with Saint Elizabeth. You just had to give her the life I have always wanted. The one I practically begged you for. So I ask again, why her?"
"Sam, are you sure you want to know the answer?"
"Yes, I do. I gave you my life and you just threw it away. Don't I get to at least know why?"
"You're the one who ended it!" Jason yelled back. He didn't feel like she deserved an answer.
At that point, Elizabeth, who had been listening at the top of the stairs came down.
"Hey, hey," Elizabeth scolded them. "I can hear you all the way upstairs. Luckily the boys have the game up loud or they would have heard too. You guys can't do that in front of Danny, or Jake."
"Sorry Elizabeth," Jason apologized. "I didn't mean to raise my voice."
"Sam, what is going on? I thought we were past all of this?" Elizabeth questioned.
"We are," Sam said unconvincingly. "I am going to go."
Elizabeth grabbed Sam's arm. "No, you stay. Talk to Jason. We can't have this animosity between us. The boys don't need to see you two fighting. You guys need to hash this out. I will go back upstairs and give you some privacy. Just keep your voices down. The boys don't need to hear this crap."
Elizabeth felt like she should stake her claim so she kissed Jason softly on the lips. "I am going to finish getting ready."
Sam was seething inside. She knew Elizabeth did that on purpose.
"Okay, I will come see you once Sam is gone," Jason promised.
Before Elizabeth left, she felt the need to say one more thing to Sam.
"Sam, let's be honest here. We don't like each other and probably never will. There's been too much bad blood between us. That being said, I love your little boy just like my own. Our boys are brothers. They love each other. We both have to deal. They are going to want to see each other. We need to suck it up and be adults about it. Fighting in front of them is not the answer. I think we both can be civil to each other for their sake. Don't you?"
Sam wanted to throttle her but she wouldn't be able to finish her conversation with Jason if she flipped out now. So she just played along so she could get Elizabeth out of the room again.
"Yes, we do want what's best for the boys. You have good boys Elizabeth. You're a good mom, despite my feelings about you. You protect your kids and I can respect that. Maybe I am just worried that you won't care about Danny as much as your own boys."
"Sam, Jason loves Cam and Aiden even though they aren't his, so why wouldn't I love his son too? That's what adults do. Kids need all the love in the world. When Jason came back, Jake told me he couldn't have felt any luckier because he had 3 dads. He didn't want to exclude Drew. He had so much love in his heart that he wanted to give one of his dads to Spencer because he lost his. That's what I want instilled in the boys. All of them. There is zero need for hatred. Sam, we may not like it, but we will do it for our kids." Then Elizabeth turned on her heel.
Once Elizabeth was back upstairs. Jason turned his attention back to Sam.
"Do you want to explain what that was about?"
"Jason, I am going to be straight with you."
"Please do."
"I know I am the one that ended things with you. I felt that you were never going to ever choose me or Danny over Carly, Sonny or that damn job of yours. I moved on with Dante, and I am happy. Yet, hearing that you gave all of that up for Elizabeth makes me want to scream. Why couldn't you do that for us? Weren't we enough for you?"
"Sam, I am not going to lie to you. When we were together, I loved you as much as I possibly could."
"Yeah, but not as much as Elizabeth."
"Sorry, but no. She was always the dream too big for me to take. I never wanted my life or my choices to effect her. So I walked away. Only now I have realized that me walking away is what destroyed her more than anything, and I have to live with that fact. I want a life with Elizabeth. I have been in love with her since I met this cute little 18 year old with a fire in her eyes. She's had my heart since."
"So that's it. Just like that. Who cares about me or Danny?" Sam knew she had no right but it just infuriated her.
"Yeah, that's pretty much it. Sorry, I am not trying to be mean. All I can tell you is I had an epiphany, and realized my life wasn't worth the shit on the bottom of my shoes. I had another chance at life. I vowed to myself that I would do things differently this time around. You can only cheat death so many times. Plus this is what I want. What I have always wanted. We had our time together Sam. We tried, it didn't work. Now it's time for me to try with the one who has always had my heart."
Sam just couldn't believe what she was hearing. She always felt deep down that if she wanted him, he would dump whoever he was with for her. So this was her last chance. She had to try one more time.
"What if I told you I made a mistake and I am still in love with you? Would you give me another chance Jason?" Sam did her best to give him her sexy pout. Jason would fall for it in the past. She would have him eating out of her hands in no time.
Jason couldn't believe his eyes. Did he actually used to fall for this bullshit? Could she be any more fake? Why hadn't he noticed it before?
"Sam, the only thing you were in love with was the money that got dropped into your lap. You sat on your ass in my penthouse all day, doing God knows what. Pretending to actually be a private investigator. Cause let's face it, you know Spinelli is doing 99% of that work. You call me dumber than a box of rocks? Did you ever get that diploma Sam?
"Fuck you Jason."
You are the epitome of a bimbo. You dress like a hooker and you couldn't fight your way out of a paper bag. You think you are all bad ass wielding a gun around, when in fact you couldn't hit the broad side of a building. Elizabeth is a better shot than you and she hates guns."
Jason continued. There was no stopping him now. She pissed him off. "You are a low rent waste of space and I implore you to get out of my face before I remove you myself. Let's call a spade a spade Sam. You are just pissed that you no longer have a meal ticket. The Jason Morgan gravy train has left the lot."
Sam smacked Jason hard across the face. "I gave up my life for you!"
Jason could feel his blood boil. He was not going to let her get to him. He'd give her the slap, but only one.
"Oh you did huh? Nobody forced you to sit your ass on my couch. I do like how you can no longer throw it in my face that you can't have kids because of me. Now I can stop feeling bad for your pathetic low rent ass. I have no idea why I gave you my penthouse. I should have booted you out on your ass is what I should have done."
"I deserve half of everything for putting up with your stupid ogre ass. That perfect body and such a waste. You don't even know how to use it properly. That's why I had to stray with McBain, and Franco. Yeah I fucked him and fucked him good. I hope you love hearing that. Seems it's okay for Elizabeth to fuck him and you're with her. Figured that was a turn on to you. I should have used that to my advantage. I rode Franco like a bucking Bronco and he rocked my world. Save a horse ride a cowboy right? You only wish you could be that good. I hate you and I am glad we are over," Sam yelled in his face.
"Wonderful, so my wife was not only a con-artist but a cheating slut too. Good to know that I dodged that bullet of going back to you. It was a blessing in disguise. If I could dig that mother fucker up from the grave, I'd shake his hand."
"Oh yeah, well Danny is not yours," Sam screamed, immediately regretting it. He had just infuriated her so much. It was too late to take it back now. The look on Jason's face was devastation.
"What...what did you just say?"
"Danny is not yours. I had the test fixed. He's Franco's son."
"How could you do that to me?"
"Oh Jason, it was so easy. You are so easily manipulated do you know that? You are such a sucker. Anyone can dangle a baby in front of your face and you would love it simply because you had to give your real son away. Such a shame. All that wasted time. You chose me over and over again over Elizabeth. All for what? I wasn't even pregnant with your son. So the jokes on you Jason. I will see you in court," Sam threatened him. "I will be going for full custody." Before Jason could respond, Sam was already out the door, slamming it behind her.
Elizabeth was still listening at the top of the stairs. She couldn't bring herself to walk away and she was glad that she didn't. She couldn't believe what Sam had just told Jason. Franco was the father of Sam's son? Poor Jason. Poor Danny. How could she be so cruel.
Yeah, Elizabeth had lied herself about the test, but she was trying to hang on to who she thought was Jason, not be cruel to him. Sam was his wife. She was supposed to love and adore him. Keep him happy. Yet she treated him like some kind of prize that she won. She just loved what Jason gave her. It made her sick. She knew that Sam was being too nice about things. She should have known that she was up to something.
Elizabeth walked back down the stairs and over to Jason, wrapping her arms around him. As soon as Jason felt her touch, he collapsed in her arms. He just broke. The tears already streaming down his face.
"Oh God Elizabeth, it hurts. It hurts so much. I can't believe she lied to me all of this time. Why?" He asked her, knowing she didn't have the answer, but hoping she did anyway.
Elizabeth rubbed her hands up and down his back trying to soothe him. "I don't know baby. I don't know how anyone can be so cruel. I hate to say it but I think she had this all planned. She kept us apart on purpose. Plus she had Carly's help. Carly just automatically agrees with anyone that is not me. I think she knew Jason. She knew how you felt about me. Just like Lucky. He knew too. Our pull is too strong and she saw that. So she decided to punish you."
"I think you are right. She is a con artist after all. She conned me right in alright."
"Well first things first Jason. You need to get another test. She could be lying."
"No, she's not lying. I saw it in her eyes. She hates me and she was pleased with herself. Trust me. He's not mine. It's how she kept me around. Pretty simple. I lost you and Jake. So she gave me a son and a wife. That's what I had always wanted with you, but you were always about Lucky most of your life. I never thought I could stand up to that. So I gave you up. It's what I craved with you though. So I settled. I am so sorry I stopped fighting for us."
"You're here now and that's all that matters," Elizabeth said comforting him. "We will get through this together. If Danny is not your son, I am hoping Diane can fight for you to get joint custody. You are the father he knows. I am sure Dante is great, but he is not you. He is a pretty stand up guy. I don't know if he can agree with that type of cruelty. She might lose everything anyway. I know him pretty well because he was married to Lulu, and he doesn't have a hateful bone in his body. I wouldn't be surprised if Dante left her ass over this. Depends how much she can manipulate him. He's a very astute guy."
"Elizabeth Webber, is that your way of saying that I am a dumbass? I think I am offended," Jason said only half joking. Although he knew it was true.
"If the shoe fits."
"How dare you," Jason feigned appalled.
"Babe, let's be real. You have great instincts when it comes to the business, and I would trust you with my life. That being said, Sam flashed her big titties in your face, you claimed a kid that wasn't yours, and you let her sponge off you for 15 years. I would have to agree that you are the biggest dumbass on the face of the Earth. At least when it comes to women."
"Point taken." What else could he say? She was right.
"Jason, do you want me to cancel tonight? I can stay home with you and the boys."
"No, you are going out and having fun with your friends. It's fine. I want to hang with the boys. Once you leave I am going to have Aiden show me and Danny how to make cookies. Who knows, I might learn something."
"Well if you're sure."
Jason wrapped his arms around Elizabeth's middle and pulled her close. "I am positive. It will be good for me to hang with them without your influence."
"What is that supposed to mean Mr. Morgan?"
"There is no nice way of putting this. They are boys Elizabeth and you baby them. They need a man's perspective."
Elizabeth pretended to be offended, but she knew he was right.
"I know, I know. I baby them but I cannot help it. They will always be my babies."
"That's why you are such a wonderful mother. You have always put your boys first, even at the expense of your heart." Jason kissed Elizabeth's forehead. "I am so sorry for not giving up the business sooner for you guys. I missed out on so much and I understand why you couldn't take that risk. It was time for me to grow the hell up and take my family. I love you so much Elizabeth, and I am so grateful that you waited for me to get my head out of my ass. I did tell you I was brain damaged," Jason joked lightheartedly.
"Don't you dare talk about my future husband like that. I love you so much Jason.
Jason kissed her hard. "I am so thankful that you are mine. So damn grateful."
"I am too baby. Are you sure you don't want me to stay?"
"I am positive. You go. Hopefully when you come back I won't be in a cookie coma."
"I am sure I can wake you up very easily Mr. Morgan," Elizabeth purred in his ear.
Jason could feel his cock get hard instantly. Oh he was up alright. Didn't even matter what she was saying. The fact she was whispering in his ear turned him on.
"Stop, that," he ordered, but not very convincingly. "The boys are right upstairs. Don't start something we can't finish."
"Oh baby, you won't be saying that later on," she whispered against his ear again, causing goosebumps to form. "I promise I will reward you for being such a good babysitter."
"Is that how you pay all of your babysitters?" He quirked his brow. "Taking it out in trade I see."
"You know it," Elizabeth said, slapping his ass. "I am going to finish getting ready before I am late."
Jason growled as he pretended to chase her down. He stopped at the bottom of the stairs, and she booked it up them two at a time, afraid of his wrath. Who was she kidding. She had to get away before she threw him into the bedroom for a quickie.
"Yeah you better run," he yelled up the stairs.
Once she was out of sight, Jason was on the phone with Diane.
"Diane, I want to know what can be done about getting full custody of Danny and her out of my penthouse?"
"Well hello to you too Jason. I was just in the middle.."
"I don't care what you are doing. I will pay you triple. Get your ass to Elizabeth's house now. I need a paternity test, and if the results are what I think, I need my name removed from a birth certificate. Also, what are my rights for visitation even if I am not biologically the father?"
"Oh no Jason, I am so sorry. Sam lied to you?"
"Yes, Danny is not mine. He's Franco's." Jason told her. Not realizing how bad it would feel. He loved that little boy. She let him fall in love with him and just ripped him away like he was nothing. "She paid someone off, probably Helena for all I know. I wouldn't put anything past her. She is a con-artist."
"Why did she decide to tell you now?" Diane asked curiously. It seemed like odd timing considering they had already been divorced.
She was pissed that I am giving up the business for Elizabeth and her boys, and I didn't do it for her. Tonight she called me out on it. We got in to a huge fight and she dropped the bomb on me. I don't think she ever had any intention of telling me. I guess she had another moment of weakness. She was playing all nice, biding her time. So now the truth comes out. She was manipulating me this entire time, and I bought it hook, line, and sinker. I am such an idiot."
"Well Jason, I hate to say I told you so but, I told you so. I warned you about her when all that crap came out about her and the aliases. Once a con always a con."
"Thanks for the compassion Diane."
"You're welcome. I will be there in twenty minutes, and you better believe I will be charging you triple for this."
"Yes Diane. I know. You need money for your shoe collection. Got to get those Jimmy Choo's."
"You better believe it. See you in twenty."
After he disconnected the call, he went upstairs to say goodbye to Elizabeth properly. He needed to feel her arms around him. He needed the love that only she could give. It was like losing Michael all over again, only ten times worse because he thought Danny was his. He knew Michael wasn't his when he took care of him. That didn't make it hurt any less. Now he was losing another child. Thank God for Cam, Jake, and Aiden. He wasn't sure if he would be able to handle it if he lost them too.
Jason did take some slight satisfaction though knowing that he got the last laugh on Franco. He never got to know his son and Jason thought that it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. He wouldn't tell Elizabeth that though.
When Jason walked into the room, he locked eyes with Elizabeth in the mirror. When she saw how broken he was, it almost destroyed her. His eyes were bloodshot and brimming with tears.
"Elizabeth, no matter what happens between us, please don't take those boys away from me," Jason practically begged. "I don't know if I can handle this again. It's too much."
Elizabeth enveloped Jason in her arms. "Shhh," she soothed him. "Come on baby, you are always so strong for everyone else. Let it out." Then the flood gates opened and she just held him until his tears subsided.
Trina Robinson was waiting not so patiently for her father to call her back. She was supposed to find out by 5pm what the judges decision was, and it was after 7pm, and her dad had not called yet.
"Where the heck are you dad? Pick up your phone?" Trina left him another voicemail.
Just then her father walked in the door.
"Finally!" Trina yelled at her father. "I was getting worried. Why weren't you picking up your phone?"
"I told you I would be a little late."
"Yeah, but not 2 hours late. I was started to panic thinking something happened to you."
"I am perfectly fine Trina. I am the one who should be worrying about you getting involved with the Spencer boy."
"Dad I am.."
"I know, you are an adult," Taggert cut her off. "I will stay out of it."
"So does that mean?" Trina sounded hopeful.
"Yup, it took some convincing but let's just say I gave the judge and offer he couldn't refuse."
"I don't think I want to know what that means."
"It means, I blackmailed him. It's not something I normally would do but my daughter begged me to help her and I felt it was in my best interest to help her."
"Thank you daddy. I love you." She threw herself into her father's arms, thanking whatever higher power intervened.
"I would do anything for you baby girl."
"Does Spencer know?"
"He should be getting word as we speak."
Spencer Cassadine was lying down on the bed in his hotel room. He was counting the remaining hours he had left before he had to report to Pentonville. He would give anything to take back what he did. He would confess to Trina right away. He would tell her how he felt instead of coming up with some stupid plan. He should have known that Esme would escape anyway.
Spencer had not spoken to Trina since he dropped the bomb on her. She probably hated him. She had already moved on with Rory and it was over for him. He had nothing left. By the time he came back in 3 months, she would already be engaged with his luck. So he did his best to forget her. Except when he closed his eyes, all he could see was her face.
He had to admit, as much as he put up a front, he was terrified. The horror stories he had heard about the inmates made him want to vomit. Even though he told his father not to help. He hoped that he didn't listen and arranged for protection.
Just then there was a knock on the door. Probably his Filet. It would be the last good meal he would have for the next several months. However, when he opened the door, he was surprised to see his lawyer standing there.
"Martin? What are you doing here? They aren't even going to allow me to enjoy my last evening?"
"Actually, it's quite the opposite," Martin said with delight in his voice. He couldn't contain the smile.
"What's going on? You look like you are about to burst out of your skin."
"Spencer, what if I told you that a miracle has happened."
"Seriously?"
"Yup, the judge just called me. I don't know what happened, or who pulled what favor, but you aren't going to prison. My guess is it was either your Uncle Victor, your father, or your Uncle Sonny. Nevertheless, someone was watching out for you. Have a good night Mr. Cassadine. I believe my work here is done." Martin tipped his imaginary hat and walked out of the hotel room.
Spencer just stood there in shock. He wasn't going to prison. For the first time in months, a huge smile broke out on Spencer's face. He was determined now more than ever to fight for Trina. That cop is going to wish he never entered the program by the time he was done with him. He was going to get his woman.
