A/N: Like in my S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Finest Heroes story, I'm gonna start skipping the A/N's unless I have an announcement to make. Big-time shoutout to Bl4ckHunter for help with the next chapter of this story. And some help with this one.

Response to reviews:

Aragorn II Elessar: Thanks.

Yeah, I felt that that only makes sense because like Joker with Batman, Thawne wants to be the one to destroy and hurt Barry.

Thank you.

Glad to hear that.

Really happy to hear all of that bro, hope you're enjoying it.

Bl4ckHunter: Thanks.

Appreciate that, I'm hoping I wrote it well.

Indeed.

Here comes the arrest of Godspeed.

KevinAguirre: Understood. I was implying that they were different people even in the story.

I agree. Everyone would've gone crazy over it and in the comics, there's actually a moment where Riddler reveals he's discovered Bruce's secret identity.

I've read some of the first chapter and I'll post my review of it soon.

Chloe (Guest): Hey! Long time no see. Thanks for the review.

spiderman1fan: Thank you.

New York City

Night

It was almost midnight in New York City. The skies were pure black, the city streets were lit with street lights and the boards of Times Square. Overall, it was as if darkness completely ruled the city. Godspeed's terrorization of it made the citizens afraid and trembling with fear. The moment nightfall had dawned on the city, the streets almost entirely clear of any citizens or civilians. At one of the shorter buildings, on the rooftop, a certain masked vigilante in a black, metal-armored suit stood tall, looking down at the streets. Not more than a city block away, he saw the building he was looking for. The building where Godspeed was, or at least where he and the Avengers suspected him to be. Regardless, today would be the day when it all ends. When Godspeed's terrorization of New York and of S.H.I.E.L.D. would end. He would pay for the lives he had taken and destroyed. He would pay for ending and taking the lives of Agent Amanda and of Fitz.

"Barry, do you copy?" Steve Rogers' voice came clear through the comms channel.

"Loud and clear, Cap," Barry replied as he got down one knee, his right planted strong at the edge of the roof.

"The power-dampening perimeter's been set," Daisy said, her voice echoing through the comms. "Has an area of five city blocks. We're not gonna have our powers."

"Neither will he," Barry shot back, referring to a certain white-lightning speedster.

"We're outside the area," Natasha ordered. "Tony, Vision, and Rhodey are doing recon above."

"I'm on my way," Barry replied.

Barry then pulled out a certain gadget from his suit, he held it with a tight grip as he pressed a button on it. Instantly, several feet and yards of rope shot out of the device as the titanium alloy grappling hook at the top went flying downward. The grappling hook struck a part of the wall as the rope tightened. Barry, at human speed, ran to the side of the rooftop before jumping off the roof. He and Daisy had both been reduced to their human capabilities due to the power dampening perimeter. They had to make due with their skills, gadgets, and weapons. Barry flew downward, swinging with the grappling before he pressed another button on the gadget, the grappling hook flying loose. The hook and the rope were reattached to the gadget as Barry landed on the ground. He did a front roll, helping with his fall before he rose to his feet.

A few minutes later, Barry, Natasha, Clint, Sam, Daisy, Steve, Coulson, Mack, Bobbi, Hunter, and the group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were going up the stairs of the apartment building. They reached the tenth floor as they entered the hallway, the dark matter signal was coming from one of the rooms behind one of the doors there. As Coulson, Mack, Bobbi, Hunter, and the Avengers surrounded the door of the apartment room, Barry stood close to Daisy, noticing a trembling look on her face.

"Daisy, are you okay?" Barry asked.

Daisy snapped back to reality as she glanced up at Barry. "Y-yeah," she shook her head, a blushing look visible on her face. "I'm fine. Just…I don't know, I guess I just didn't really think we were gonna find or stop this guy."

Without regard for the agents or the Avengers that were nearby, Barry took Daisy's hand into his as he stared at her through his mask. "Are you sure you wanna do this?"

Daisy nodded her head. "This psychopath murdered my best friend. What choice do I have?"

The two dropped hands as Steve kicked the door down, his shield strapped to his left arm. Everyone began entering the apartment room in perfect formation as Barry and Daisy followed the agents inside. Coulson, Mack, Bobbi, Hunter, and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents combed through and searched the kitchen and living room. Barry, Daisy, Steve, Natasha, Clint and Sam made their way over to a door that was nearby. Barry opened the door as he, Daisy, and the Avengers entered the bedroom that was behind it. Immediately, there was a man inside, sitting on a chair as they saw the back of his head, his black hair wavy and short. The man turned his chair around, revealing his face to them as Barry shuddered. The man stared at Barry, Daisy, and the Avengers in shock and confusion as Barry tensed. This was it, this was him. Godspeed. August Heart. Barry's best friend from several years ago. Now, they were both here, on the same earth, in the same room together. This had to be him. It had to. Who else could it be?

"W-what's going on?" the man asked, sounding panicked, his British accent thick as Barry frowned.

No, this couldn't be. This was where Tony tracked the dark matter signal. This wasn't August. Barry knew it. August didn't have a British accent, his accent was purely American. But…if this wasn't August, then who was? Who was this man?

"August Heart?" Steve asked as the man frowned.

"Captain America!" the man exclaimed as he instantly shook Steve's hand excessively. "It's such an honor to meet you! I'm a big fan-"

The man was then cut off as Barry angrily grabbed him and pinned him to the wall, his face hitting the wall as his arm was forced behind his back. The man yelped before wincing in pain from Barry's tight grip. Barry, however, wasn't in the mood to deal with the man's innocence. This had to be August Heart, it had to be. The man was probably lying, faking his cover. Pretending to be some timid British man who had zero clue of what was going on. Barry had to break him, he had to. For Fitz. For Agent Amanda. For the little boy, the boy who had lost his mother the way Barry had. The little boy would live a life of suffering, all because of this psychotic, unstable maniac.

"We asked you a question," Barry gritted. "Are you August Heart?"

"Flash! Stand down." Steve ordered.

Barry ignored him as with his other hand, he formed a fist before punching the wall. His fist was mere inches away from the man, scaring him as Barry's fist broke right through the wall. The result of one thousand, five hundred pounds of punching force hitting it. The man stammered and cowered in fear.

"Answer the question, dammit!" Barry yelled.

"N-no," the man cried, his British accent thickening even more. "I-I-I've never h-heard of t-t-that name. My name's Steven Grant."

"Flash, let him go." Steve said.

"He's lying!" Barry roared, ready to take the man's head off.

Daisy then grabbed Barry's shoulder as she turned him towards her before speaking. "Not like this. C'mon."

Barry gave in as he angrily released Steven, who fell to the ground, cowering in fear. Steven looked up at the Avengers, tears in his eyes as he trembled, his hands above his head as they shook in an unstable manner. Natasha grabbed Steven, pulling him to his feet before shoving him against the wall as she cuffed his hands behind his back.

"A-are those cuffs?" Steven asked, whimpering and afraid. "H-h-have I done something wrong? I haven't done anything. I swear. I'm innocent."

"Then you have nothing to be afraid of," Natasha said as she walked out with Steven, Daisy, Clint, Steve, and Sam following her.

Barry remained in the bedroom for a few moments, taking a look at everything inside. The bed, the desk, bookshelves which were packed and stuffed with books. Most of them were non-fictional books, books about Egyptian mythology and history. Any fictional books that were there correlated to the same thing. Barry scanned the entire room with eyes, trying, hoping to find anything suspicious, anything that would prove his paranoia of Steven Grant being August Heart or Godspeed. He couldn't find anything of the such. Then, something on the blanket of the bed caught Barry's eye. He moved closer to the bed, looking down at it before his eyes grew large in shock under his mask. It was a small, children's book, but not just any children's book, it was The Runaway Dinosaur. The same book that Barry's mother read to him as a child. This was it. This had to be the evidence he needed to prove that Steven was Godspeed. But no, this wasn't compelling enough evidence. There had to be something more: a DNA sample perhaps or traces of dark matter and speed force energy in Godspeed's blood. Yes. That would work. That would be what Barry needed. As the S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers vacated the building and the power-dampening perimeter, Barry made his way out of the apartment room, leaving the area. It was time for him to confront Godspeed, time for him to do so on his terms.

Later

S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Anything?" Daisy asked as Bobbi finished reviewing the results on the computer.

"Nothing," Bobbi said. "Steven Grant has zero Inhuman markers, no traces of dark matter or speed force energy. There's nothing abnormal. All his vitals are normal. And his name exists in a database, so he is who he says is. As far we're concerned, he's just an ordinary guy."

"So he isn't Godspeed," Daisy said disappointedly.

"As far these tests show, no," Bobbi said.

"Any chance you can run it again?"

"Daisy, I ran it thirty times. Same result every single time. He isn't Godspeed."

"Dammit."

Meanwhile, in the living room of the S.H.I.E.L.D. base, Barry and the Avengers were spread throughout the area and the couches. Tony was working and making repairs on his suit, following the damage from his battle with Godspeed. Steve and Natasha were having a drink with one another. Clint was sprawled across the couch, laying down. Vision and Rhodey had gone back to Avengers Tower while Sam remained with the rest, leaning by the refrigerator. Barry, on the other hand, had been by the door, leaning against it. He was lost in thought, his eyes staring off into space his arms crossed. He had changed out of his suit into normal clothes, a thin, dark blue t-shirt with long sleeves that were pulled up, black jeans, and black shoes. Everyone in the room had been quiet for several minutes as they awaited the results of the tests Coulson and the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. were conducting. Sam, out of nowhere, noticed Barry's distracted stare. He opened the refrigerator door as he grabbed two bottles of alcohol. Closing the refrigerator, Sam walked over to Barry, who caught his attention as he held one of the bottles to Barry, offering it to him.

"Want a drink?" Sam asked.

Barry took the bottle into his hand, opening the cap. "Thanks."

"Cheers, man." Sam said as he and Barry raised their bottles, tapping it by the brim of the top.

The pair took a sip of alcohol from their own bottles as they left the living room area, walking down the halls of the Playground together.

"Are you okay, man?" Sam asked.

Barry turned his head to face the Avenger. "What?"

"I'm just saying, you've seemed a bit disturbed by all this. Us catching Godspeed. I mean, you seemed ready to beat the guy to a pulp."

"He murdered Fitz and killed Agent Amanda the same why my mother died."

"Is this really about them?"

The both of them stopped in their tracks as they faced each other. Barry was silent as he replayed Sam's words in his head.

"Look, man," Sam began, lifting his head up as he continued his speech. "I get it. Godspeed killed your girlfriend's best friend. He murdered that S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. But I don't think that's what bothers you. I think what bothers you is that he did it the way your mother died and that he left that eleven-year-old boy."

Barry was starting to let Sam's words sink in, a look of realization on his face as Sam continued.

"Maybe you think that by catching Godspeed you can do for this kid what you couldn't do for yourself. Catch the man responsible for murdering an eleven-year-old kid's mom. I don't know…it feels like you're still chasing Eobard Thawne."

Barry sighed as he shook his head. "You're right. It does feel like that. Every day, every night, every minute of my life. For eighteen years, it's felt like that. I've always tried. Tried to amend it, tried to make it right. But no matter what I do, it's never enough. It just can't be fixed. First, it was that. Then it was Flashpoint. I created it and it caused pain to my friends, to the people I loved and cared about. I couldn't even look them in the eye without remembering what I did. And this…this is what I need. This is what I have to do. If I do…I don't know, maybe it'll make it right. I know it sounds stupid-"

"I wasn't gonna say that," Sam argued. "But I feel like there's one thing you're leaving out from that."

Barry scoffed incredulously. "Yeah and what's that?"

"The most important part: you haven't forgiven yourself for what happened to your mother."

Barry's face stiffened as he gulped, holding back his emotion as he spoke. "Thawne broke into my home. He came there to kill me, not my mother, not my father, me. But instead, he killed her. With a knife. He did it right in front of me and you know what I did? Nothing. I just stood there and watched her die. I stood there like a coward in fear."

"That wasn't your fault," Sam said, his voice stern for his friend. "You were an eleven year old kid who couldn't understand what was in front of him. Your mother died at the hands of a psychotic maniac."

"Yeah," Barry said, looking away, his voice based in self-loathing. "The worst part? I watched her die two more times. The first time I said goodbye and watched her give in to the blood loss. The second time…I had to beg Thawne murder her. What kind of man begs a murderer to kill his mother again?"

"The kind of man who's a hero," Sam said instantly as Barry was taken back. "The kind of man, who without any hesitation, has put his own pain and suffering away for the good of others. The kind of man who's gone through a life of pain but still manages to push forward and keep going. So why stop here? Think about what your mother would say."

With that, Sam walked off, leaving Barry to be deeply lost in thought. Leaving him to wonder: was Sam right? Had Barry still not forgiven himself for the death of his mother? Even when it had been eighteen years? The truth? Yes. He did. For almost two decades of his life, Barry had subconsciously blamed himself. Unable to purely accept and move on from his mother's death. However, it was a part of life, and life had both ups and downs. The death of his parents and the creation of Flashpoint were Barry's downs. However, he had upsides too. Cisco, Caitlin, Joe, Oliver, the Avengers…Daisy. They were his friends, his family, his whole world. In that one moment, upon remembering all of them, Barry decided he was done. He was done dwelling on his parents and on the past. He was done letting it affect his life in the present and in the future. He had to focus on what was in front of him and what he had. Granted, he wasn't entirely ahead of his past, but from now on, he would start moving on and start focusing on what was right in front of him.

"Hey," a certain chocolate brown-haired woman walked up to Barry.

"Hey Daisy," Barry said, a small smile forming on his lips as he greeted her.

Daisy smiled as she wrapped her arms around Barry's neck, pulling him in for a kiss. Barry wrapped his arms around Daisy's back as the two kissed for a quick moment before separating as they held onto each other. Barry had chucked his beer bottle in a trash can, ignoring it as he focused on the beautiful woman in front of him.

"You okay?" Barry asked. "You seem off?"

Daisy sighed. "Just really tired. Kinda feeling a little dizzy too."

"Come here." Barry whispered softly as he wrapped Daisy into a hug.

Daisy rested the side of her head on his chest. She breathed slowly and deeply, feeling her fatigue getting to her as she closed her eyes. She could feel and sense the sped-up vibrations from Barry's body and his heartbeat. Barry could feel Daisy's cool skin against his as he kissed her forehead.

"I need a hot shower," Daisy muttered, the awkwardness of it making Barry let out a short chuckle. "You should join me."

"I like the sound of that."

"You know I just realized…this is the first time I've heard or seen you smile."

"Yeah, well that's 'cause of you," Barry said. "So if anyone should take credit, it's you."

Daisy let out a short chuckle before she closed her eyes once more, leaning more on Barry who simply continued hugging and holding her.

"Daisy…" Barry began, resting his chin on the top of her head. "I've been thinking. Lately we've been so focused on stopping Godspeed and where we'd go from here. I know I told you I'd come back to you after Savitar. But the truth is…the truth is I love you. I love you, Daisy and I don't wanna wait. I don't want to wait for us to start our future and together we can. I know it'll be hard but I think we should try. So, I just wanna say…marry me. Marry me, Daisy."

Daisy was silent, leaning on Barry as he heard nothing but the sound of calmed breathing from her. Barry smiled, knowing that she was probably asleep. He shook her lightly, trying to wake her up. However, when he did, she didn't wake. Her eyes remained closed as she didn't move. Barry frowned as he shook Daisy once more trying to get her to wake up. Still, nothing happened.

"Daisy?" Barry called. No response. "Daisy?"

Barry let Daisy fall into his arms as he knelt to the ground, shaking her, desperately trying to get her to wake up.

"Daisy!" Barry yelled. "Dammit Daisy! Wake up! Daisy, can you hear me?"

After hearing no response yet again, Barry cursed under his breath as he carried Daisy in arms, bridal style before racing her to the medical bay. A trail of orange lightning coming from behind him.

A couple hours later, Barry was waiting beside Daisy, who was lying unconsciously in one of the hospital-like beds. Sam had been right outside the medical bay, having wanted to be there as Barry's friend. Though, he made sure to remain outside as he wanted to give the couple their privacy. Bobbi had run a few tests on Daisy and given Barry the information before leaving. For the last two hours, Barry had remained by Daisy's bedside, holding one of her hands with both of his. A few minutes later, Daisy began stirring as a small breath of relief came from her. She opened her eyes, turning her head to face Barry, who quickly looked at her.

"Hey." Daisy said weakly, visibly fatigued and exhausted.

"Hey," Barry replied softly. "How're you feeling?"

"Tired as hell. I don't even feel like walking."

"Bobbi ran some tests. Said that you hadn't been eating enough," Barry explained.

Daisy frowned in confusion. "I don't get it. I've done it before. What happened this time?"

"This time is different."

"Barry, what are you not telling me?"

Barry let his head down as he looked down at the ground, holding Daisy's hand with just one of his as he spoke his next few words. "Daisy…you're pregnant."

A/N: This chapter was gonna be longer but I decided not to drag it and thought this would be a good place to end.

Yep, Daisy is pregnant with Barry's child. I'm no doctor or medical experiment, so if the timing is off on this, let's just say it has to do with the fact that the baby is half speedster, okay?

The conversation between Barry and Sam was inspired by Stand with Ward and Queen's story Torn between two earths. I decided to add it for the same reasons that Stand with Ward did. In his words, from the moment we've seen Barry from his debut in Arrow season 2, almost everything he's done correlates to his mother's death in some way. This is pretty solid proof that he clearly hasn't moved on from it. For me, personally, I believe this is evidence that Barry is doing it all to make it right. Like with Batman, I believe Barry's biggest motivation comes from the death of his parents and his need/desire to make it right. Both in canon and in this fanfic, it's pretty clear that Barry isn't going to be able to truly move on from his mom's death. As Stand with Ward said, when someone goes through a traumatic experience, them blaming themselves is a normal reaction. Especially in the case of a child losing their parents.

Steven Grant's name is just a mere reference to Moon Knight. I am not bringing that character in and I will explain more about him in the next chapter. If you wanna put a face to him, just imagine Oscar Isaac.
