Maura's House
Maura and Jane had each gotten ready for bed and Maura slid under the covers. She realized Jane hadn't yet joined her and looked up to find the detective standing frozen by the bed. Inwardly she chuckled at the fact Maura had remade the bed while she was gone.
"Jane?"
"I've never done this."
"Done what?"
Jane flipped the covers on her side of the bed back, stalling, before she finally looked at Maura.
"Uh, this. Spent the night with a lover, in bed without having sex first. This..."
Maura patted the space next to her and finished Jane's sentence, "Intimacy?"
Jane considered that and finally nodded. "Yeah, that. I mean, I've certainly had lovers stay over, but usually just between sex and going to work. I've never lived with anyone or even gone on vacation with anyone." She looked at Maura. "Have you?"
Maura thought about the question and then considered her answer, settling on, "I think I have." At Jane's look, she continued, "I mean, I have worked in various relief areas with those I became intimate with, so technically..."
Jane rolled her eyes and chuckled, "God you are so literal!"
Maura tilted her head and smiled at her lover. "I have never lived with a lover unless you count bunkhouse accommodations in a remote area. I have had some sexless sleepovers with lovers where we slept next to each other after reading before bed."
Jane nodded as she slipped under the covers and propped her pillow up against the headboard. " Ok, well, this is new. All of this is new." She didn't resist as Maura pulled her over so that her head was in the blonde's lap. As Maura ran her fingers through the detective's hair, she began to relax.
Maura admired the strong jawline of her lover's face and the flutter of her eyelids as her breathing evened out. "So tell me about this family dinner on Sunday."
Jane's eyes opened as her peaceful moment evaporated. "Every Sunday Ma fixes a big dinner, and every Sunday she expects me and my brother Frankie to show up. " Jane turned so that she was looking up at Maura. "Frankie tells my mother everything, about everything in his life, work, whatever. He mentioned to Ma that we have a new medical examiner and that it's a female. So I said I had met you..." They both giggled at that. "And she wants me to invite you. Probably to try and fix you guys up."
"Oh. What do we do?"
Jane looked at her a replied, "We lie."
"I can't do that. I can't lie or I get Urticaria!"
Jane raised up and asked, "What? What is that?"
"More commonly referred to as hives."
"Hives? Why do you get hives when you lie?"
"I don't know, but I can't lie. At all. Ever. So how do we handle this?"
"I'll take care of it."
She lay her head back down in Maura's lap and they talked well into the night. Jane awoke with Maura in her arms and a content feeling she hadn't felt...ever. And she liked this feeling of contentment, peace. She felt like she was home. She hugged Maura closer and kissed her forehead.
"Good morning."
"Good morning, detective."
"Shall we shower together?"
Maura sat up and took Jane's hand. "I would love to, but I have an early meeting and I can't be late. If I shower with you, I will be late." She got out of bed and headed fore the shower. Jane watched her go and promptly fell back to sleep. The next time she woke up, Maura was dressed to the nines and standing over her.
"Maura?"
Maura handed Jane a key chain with two keys on it. "Here. This is a key to my house and my garage. I think you might be here a lot and you should be able to get in any time you want." Jane was shocked and touched.
"Are you sure?" Maura nodded. "Thank you." The blonde leaned down and kissed her on the cheek.
"Would you like to come for dinner tonight and spend the night?"
Jane smiled. "Yes. See you at work?" Maura nodded and hurried down the steps.

BPD
Jane had spent the morning finishing up paperwork on her current cases and was just about to head down to the lab to see Maura for a few minutes, when her mother came to see her.
"Jane! Jane!"
Cursing inwardly, Jane plastered a smile on her face and turned to greet her mother. "Ma! What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to take my daughter to lunch!"
Without thinking, Jane replied, "I was just on my way down to see Maura."
Angela's face lit up. "The doctor?"
"Uh...yeah. Yes." Her mother stood watching her expectantly. "What?"
"Let's go. You can introduce me to her. You invite her to dinner?"
Jane ushered her mother into the elevator and sent up a prayer Maura was doing an autopsy or something. As they left the elevator, Jane's prayer went unanswered as Maura came around the corner and ran smack into Angela.
"Oh! I'm sorry!"
Angela had grabbed the doctor by her upper arms to steady her as she almost toppled over.
"It's ok. You must be the new medical hoo-ha Jane and my son Frankie told me about."
Realizing who she had just slammed into, the mother of her new girlfriend. She smiled as she realized what she'd just called Jane. She got momentarily lost in that thought and didn't realize Jane's mother had been speaking to her.
"Dr. Isles? Maura?" Jane reached out and touched the doctor.
"I'm sorry. You must be Jane's mother. I am Dr. Maura Isles, the Chief Medical Examiner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Rizzoli."
Angela smiled at her and looked her up and down. "Call me Angela. Are you single?"
"Ma! Stop it."
"What?! Your brother needs a nice girl. He's single and she's..." Angela looked at Maura for an answer to her question.
Jane noticed her girlfriend was beginning to breakout and hurried to help her. She guided her mother away from Maura and whispered, "Ma, she just went through a break-up. I don't think she's ready to start going out again, ok?"
Looking semi-hopeful, she asked, "Was it serious?"
"Ma!"
Angela shrugged. "See you Sunday, ok?" She turned to Jane and asked, "So, lunch?"
Jane followed her mother and looked at Maura and shrugged in apology.

Maura's house, Friday night
Maura had just set the table and was checking on the roast she was reheating from the night before, when Jane rang the bell and then let herself in. Unsure what to do, she stood in the entryway, shifting from side to side, overnight bag in hand, waiting on Maura. She didn't have to wait long as the doctor greeted her with a kiss and waved her in.
"Take your bag up and unpack, I cleared out a drawer for you and some hangers in my closet."
Jane stood in front of the closet looking at the the five wooden clothes hangers that were empty. She was lost in thought when she felt arms wrap around her waist from behind. Maura placed a gentle kiss on her neck and inhaled Jane's scent.
"Are you ok?"
Jane turned in Maura's arms and kissed her. "I am." They began kissing and Jane tried to walk them over to the bed, but Maura pulled back.
"Oh no, not right now. Our dinner is ready to be served and it won't reheat for a third time."

Maura caught Jane staring at her. "What?"
Jane got the blanket off the back of the couch and put it over them, stalling. "This is all just so...normal. And comfortable." She reached for her glass of wine, took a drink adding, "And right."
Maura smiled as she burrowed deeper into the couch and Jane's side. Laying her head on Jane's shoulder, she added, "It does feel right."
They spent the evening talking, laughing and learning about each other. Maura decided it was time for bed and unceremoniously stood up, holding her hand out to Jane. The raven haired woman took her hand and stood up. She followed her up the steps and as soon as they were in the bedroom, they undressed and fell on the bed, where they made love.

Saturday
After a leisurely morning where they made love again and Maura fixed breakfast for them, they went out and about. Jane had filled Maura in on her family dynamics and they had discussed how to navigate working together and keeping their relationship under wraps. All of which was fine with Maura, with one exception.
"Jane, how long do you think it will be before we go public?"
They had been in the park walking and Jane found a bench for them to sit down on.
"I honestly don't know. I want my family to get to know you better and I would like to get a couple of cases solved before we do that. I don't know how long that may be, but I promise you it won't be longer than three months." She looked at Maura to gauge her reaction. "Is that doable?"
Maura smiled at her. "Very. I understand and as long as you aren't ashamed of this, us, I'm good."
Jane smiled at her and wanted to kiss her, but mindful of where they were, she settled for a quick wink.
They sat there for a few minutes, each lost in thought until Maura turned and looked at her girlfriend.
"Jane, have you ever been shopping in a sex shop?"
