Charlotte had never been a fan of Jasper for a lot of reasons.

One of them being due the fact that he and him were one. The same. Two sides of the same coin. The Major and The God Of War . The South's terror.

She had hated him for a long time due how entitled and spoiled he acted. Like he was the king of the Earth and doing what he said had to be the absolute rule. A fact. Something to never question. If not, he would use that damned gift of his to rip your mind out.

Or worse.

He would rip your limbs off.

Or he would come out to play.

She never was able to decide which one was worse. The Major was crueller but Jasper was brutal.

But it hadn't taken her long to realize the truth behind such entitled and cruel being.

He could have been cruel and brutal and unforgiving but he had been nothing but a dog. A glorified dog who was no better than the rest of them. In fact.

He had it worse.

Because he was Maria's favorite.

The second in command.

He got to break the newborns for her, yes, but at the end Maria was the one who would break him in more ways than one if he failed to meet her expectatives.

Charlotte can still remember his screams. The stench of his blood. The sound of his skin burning. Clinking chains. Wood scrapping.

And while one would think that getting to hear such sounds from him would make the newborns underestimate him it was the complete opposite.

Mostly because whenever he was free to leave he returned twice as brutal and twice as vengeful.

It was Maria's way of manipulating the newborns.

If she could make him scream in pain that meant she wasn't someone to cross.

And that if the newborns survived.

Because if The Major was the one returning half of them would end up too torn apart to function or even heal properly.

The Major unlike Jasper would snap and insult and talk back against Maria at any given chance.

He didn't fraternize with the newborns. He would shove them and kick them and hit them for no reason whatsoever. Use his gift against them. Scratch. Break. Rip. Insult. Kill. His anger knew no limits nor containment.

He even ripped one of Peter's arms off once and threatened to tear his head off after Maria had dragged him to the house with her. Charlotte never managed to get out of him what had actually happened in there.

Still .

When Alice came into his, their life. Charlotte had found quite fascinating how The Major hadn't killed her already or how Jasper hadn't clawed her face off.

In the month Alice spent with them after Jasper decided to bring her to them... It was an odd thing to watch how he bent to her with such ease. How he treated her.

If someone would have told her that he could be so gentle with someone when they were still in the South she would have laughed her ass off.

But Alice changed him.

And lifted some of Peter's persistent concern over him. She had always known it was sort of stupid to be jealous that Peter paid so much attention to Jasper but she hadn't been able to help it, it had irked at her because he would rarely pay attention to her when Jasper was around. It was as if he completely forgot about her existence.

But she got it now.

As she watched him sleeping on the couch while using Peter's lap as a pillow she got it. It were two souls whose bond was forged in Hell. Stronger and deeper beyond understanding. Not lovers. Not friends.

With now completely different lifestyles but that wouldn't hesitate to seek each other out in times of great need. Would be there for each other no matter what.

Like brothers.

~~~~~~~~
Peter wasn't a stranger to having Jasper seeking him out and keeping to himself what bothered him. That's how most of their relationship worked. Neither of them spoke of what bothered them, mainly because speaking wasn't something they usually wanted but just the comfort of a safe presence.
Thus he didn't ask about what brought him here.
The bloodied clothes weren't new either nor were the bites he had come with. He used to do that when the emotions got too much and at this point Peter had learnt that it was better to not confront him about it.
He had given him a fresh shirt and that was it. He did force him to at least let him bandage his arms. If he didn't want to remove the venom fine but he wasn't about to let him bleed to death. He had limits to what he could allow him to get away with.
Now he had him sleeping on his lap.
He wasn't sure what led him here nor did he care much. If Jasper was the one who seeked him out that meant he would fix it later.
Thus he stayed relaxed.
Now. If The Major had been the one to turn up there he would be worried. He had faced The Major twice since leaving the South and both times it had been the same. Absolute and unsettling.
The first time was when Jasper wanted to leave, Peter had tried to convince him to not do so, that they could find another solution, because he hadn't trusted to leave him out of his sight when he was in such state of mind. The Major had brought him to the ground and done great at reminding him of that time and why he should let him leave. If not he would kill Charlotte.
He had hated the idea of having to choose between Jasper and Charlotte. But he had also seen that maybe, just maybe, he had taken way too long on taking Jasper away, maybe the damage was irreversible and the most humane thing to do at that point was to let him die if he wanted to die.
Thus he had let him go.
The second time was when Jasper brought Alice to them. The Major had told him that if he caught anything funny from the little freak to kill her if he actually cared about Jasper, if not, he would kill her himself using Jasper's hands for it.
Sometimes he couldn't see how The Major thought himself to be protecting Jasper when he also did amazing at causing him pain. Like when he challenged Maria and made the punishments worse. When he decided to rip his arms off because Peter chose to do something fair for once as that of sleeping with Maria instead of letting Jasper take the attention off him. Wanting to kill Alice. Threatening to kill Charlotte.
At the end he caused him more pain than he protected him.
And he wondered when would he realize that.
If he would decide to step back at it and let Jasper live his life.
~~~~~~~~~~

Esme hadn't felt this horrible in decades. It felt like her world was crumbling down and like there was nothing she could do to stop it. Three . She could lose three of her babies.

Edward had gone to the Volturi and Alice had gone to seek him out. Jasper had disappeared and no one knew where he was for Alice had refused to tell them.

The Volturi could end up killing them both and if that happened they may as well give up the idea of ever seeing Jasper again.

She should have tried harder to comfort her boys, should have tried harder to pull them out of their shell, it had been months.

But she didn't and now she could lose them. Alice went and let the Volturi see her. Her gift. There was no way Aro would ignore her gift.

That summed two.

Two of her children that were under the watch of the Volturi.

And then Edward and Alice had come back. Safe .

But Jasper hadn't.

He was still missing.

Her soldier was missing.

And Alice still refused to tell where he was. She assured her that he was fine and safe. That he just needed some time alone and that he would come back on his own accord.

But it had been a week.

A week and still no sign of him.

She hadn't wanted to return to Forks at first for the sole fact that she wanted to wait for Jasper. But Alice had assured her that she had sent him a text.

Alice didn't seem worried but it was clear that Jasper's absence was starting to make her anxious. She would sit at the porch for hours and had refused to return to school without him.

Edward had offered to bring him but Alice had refused the offer. And so had she refused Emmett's and Carlisle's offers.

Her attention was brought back to the present when Alice skipped down the stairs in a flash. Excitement clear in her face. And were Esme human her heart would have skipped a beat at what that face could mean.

He was back.

Jasper.

Was back.

And when she saw him.

It was like having a de javu.

For he looked similar to when he first arrived in 1950.

~~~~~~~~~~
Alice had tried so hard to not seek Jasper. She wanted to give him his space. Let him clear his head and give him the choice to come back if he wanted. Even if it killed her the idea of him not coming back she also knew that she couldn't force him to be somewhere where he didn't felt comfortable.
That if he wanted to go back to living with Peter and Charlotte she would let him. He had looked so at peace with them. So comfortable. Happy . Like all the pain he had been feeling since leaving Forks had abandoned him. Of course it hadn't been a thing that happened over night.
But Peter had always been great at pulling him out of his depression, he knew just what to say and do to manage that.
And after one torturous week he was coming back.
Right when she had lost hope on him coming back she got a vision of his return.
He was covered from head to toe and his eyes were an intense red, in her absence he seemed to have decided to use Peter's scent to hide his own.
But regardless of it all he seemed to be more serene than he was when he left.
And once she had him on sight she didn't hesitate a second to jump him. Arms around his neck and legs around his waist. His arms coming to wrap around her in a tight hug. His lips pressing a soft kiss on her neck as she buried her face into the crook of his neck. His love drapping over her like a warm blanket during winter. Welcomed.
She took in a deep breath, relinquishing on the fact that he was back. Here. With her.
And she didn't let go of him even as he began walking.
~~~~~~~

Jasper hadn't wanted to come back if he was being honest with himself. Much less when the Cullens came back to Forks. With Bella.

Because what if he ruined it again?

But Peter had said that if they actually cared about him as much as they claimed they wouldn't hold it against him, they would forgive him and understand that what happened had been nothing but an accident.

Not that Peter's words were new.

The Cullens weren't the problem. He was. Jasper himself was the problem.

But he also couldn't with the pain he knew he had to be causing Alice. Charlotte had said so. He left because he didn't want to feel their pain but leaving was doing nothing but cause more pain to Alice. She would know for she would be pained if Peter decided to disappear without even a goodbye.

Thus he decided to come back.

He wasn't proud about his eye color but he wasn't proud about a lot of things lately.

But regardless of his eye color Alice hadn't hesitated a second to jump him. Feeling her touch and happiness was comforting and the strength he didn't even knew he needed in order to be able to even look at Esme.

He walked up to the house and came up to a halt at Esme's side. She was oozing relief. Sadness. Happiness. Her hand coming to rest on his elbow.

-Are you alright?- Her voice was soft if not a bit sad.

-I'm fine, I'm sorry for worryin' you, it won't happen again.- He said, and since Alice was holding onto him with quite the tight grip he fred one of his arms in order to rest his hand on Esme's arm. Soothing down her sadness to an extent as he did so.

-You are okay, that's all that matters.

Turns out his return caused less much of the chaos he had been expecting.

Emmett near crushed him in a hug but other than that things hadn't gone that intense and Carlisle hadn't insisted on talking to him.

What he did found out was a rather disconcerting fact.

The Volturi knew about Alice.

In fact.

Aro seemed to have become fascinated by Alice.

His Alice.

They should have killed him when they had the chance.
