Chapter 8.- Gears that fit perfectly.
When two people love each other very very much. They make babies. That's as simple as it gets. So, for Mei Hatsume it was natural her love for inventions resulted in the creation of babies because she loved her work so much that the natural end result of it was babies coming to the world.
So, when Mei was working around her babies today she also found herself with the added thought of Izuku. It was a problem because she knew she should be resting, they had some time free before classes would restart. So why not take the moment to call him?
A phone call later, Izuku was answering.
"Hatsume?" He asked trying to sound formal. "Darling! How are you doing today?" Izuku stammered on the other side as he was red on the cheeks from being called darling, but he again remembered that was mostly the way Mei acted. Before he could ask anything, Mei let out her plan in the open. "I was hoping to go out. Do you mind sharing some time with me, come on don't leave your wife alone." Izuku was never going to get used to her speech.
A trip to the station and a ride later, Izuku was sitting on a bench relaxing, enjoying the calm that was around the station. It was next to a park and it felt rather nice to just sit and relax. Take a moment to breathe and enjoy the silence.
"Eeep!" He let out a sound of surprise as he felt a cold sensation on the back of his head followed by the laugh of a girl he knew well by now. "Mei?!" He turned and saw the girl holding a couple of cans in her hands. "Soda or coffee?" she asked with a nice smile that Izuku had to admit was different from her usual smiles, she looked, relaxed, or at least what he considered Mei's definition of relaxed was, he could tell she was looking at everything with her eyes.
"… I will take the soda." He accepted the can thanking her before she took to sit patting the spot next to her. He took to sit and open the soda. Mei didn't say much drinking her coffee. "Is nice right?" she motioned around them. As Izuku took to look around he also noticed why he thought Mei looked different. She was without any mark of oil or dirt on her face plus she wasn't wearing her goggles. Her choice of clothes were casual too, jeans and a t-shirt. She looked casual. Not that he was any different.
The pair looked extremely normal. It felt that way too. Izuku was wondering if this was the feeling that came with just hanging around with friends, not caring about anything, just, enjoying the single moment. He had started getting used to the sensation of having nice friends.
"Hey," Mei spoke first breaking his thought process. "Sorry if it came too out of nowhere, I was working but felt I needed a break with you." She expressed herself rather simply which didn't surprise Izuku, she showed she was the kind to go at things rather forward. "Is fine Hatsume."
"Pfft, Hatsume? Come on, we are pretty much married, you can call me darling, wife, honey, love of your life." She kept listing endearing terms that only made Izuku blush before he called her for her name. "Mei!" "Mei works much better than Hatsume, darling." Izuku was sighing trying to understand the girl next to him with no luck, still, it felt nice they were just hanging out without doing anything.
Before long both finished their drinks and Mei linked her arm with Izuku. "Come on, darling, I need you to see something!" Excitedly the girl took to run, Izuku not really knowing where they were going but keeping pace with her. This was, in an odd way, fun, fun, and relaxing.
It didn't take long for Izuku to be in an arcade, before he could ask what they were doing there, Mei brought him to a game with a pair of guns in it. "Come on, loser pays for food." Izuku was nervous when Mei started the game without warning.
Needless to say, competing with Mei proved to be a fatal mistake for him. There was no way to beat her. After that she took him to play air hockey, then table football, but the results were the same in every single game Mei dragged him to try. She won. She won but he didn't mind her winning. In fact, he was simply enjoying seeing her so happy. So full of laughs and showing him stuff he never really tried. To be fair, he wasn't one to be that active on this kind of stuff as he was mostly alone before. Is not like he could try to convince Bakugou of something like this before.
And Mei was, Mei was being Mei. She was doing all this simply because she wanted to spend time with Izuku. But she was also doing all of this for an extremely simple reason that she wasn't conscious of. She liked Izuku, not in the simple term of making babies. But as in liking the guy. But not really grasping the concepts of romance in an orthodox way, she was doing things her way. The way she could understand and follow.
And it was simple Because sometimes, things mostly consisted of doing things for the simple wish of doing them.
While on the phone she may have said something similar to the lines. Let's go out.
What she wanted to say was more along the lines of. I want to be by your side.
Mei Hatsume may not grasp what she really wanted, but her actions really showed them, so while Izuku felt they were just hanging out, the underlying feeling he could sense, was that Mei cared for him, doing things to keep his own mind away from worries, focused only on the good and on relaxing, for one day, Izuku Midoriya wouldn't be a hero, he wouldn't be All Might successor, he wasn't a boy that was cared for multiple girls, he wasn't a UA student.
Today he was simply a young man out with a girl who cared for him. They were but two gears of machinery working in perfect unison without trouble or care. Just flowing and working well together. And that was the real ability that Mei had on Izuku, that ability to bring relaxation while keeping things interesting.
