Prompt: Something old, something new, somehting borrowed, something blue - but not in the context of a wedding.

The Great Hall was bustling with creatures and activity. At last, one of the rulers' birthdays had arrived and the Narnians were determined to make this the best birthday their Gentle Queen had ever had. Decorations were being hung, floors were being cleaned, food was being made, all in preparation for the celebration that night.

Finally the hour arrived and the Four entered the Great Hall. Each one's eyes widened at the wonderful wight of the hall. Every wall was full of specially-arranged colored paper and bright strings of cloth were hanging from the ceiling with festive shoes attached to each. Long tables on the sides of the room were loaded with food and drink. In the room were the assembled Narnians. All that were able to make it to the palace were there.

Mrs. Beaver came up and, taking Susan's hand, led her to the place of honor at the banquet table. "This is amazing," Susan said. "I don't know how you accomplished all this in such a short amount of time."

Mrs. Beaver smiled modestly. "Thank you. We all helped. Now, this first thing is a special Narnian birthday tradition. It's been done for every king and queen of Narnia." She motioned to a group of entourage standing across the room.

The centaurs came forward as a group and the General Orieus stepped forwards holding something that was covered by a tattered cloth. "For Queen Susan," he announced, "something old." He took off the cloth to reveal an ancient bracelet which, when polished, would be the finest piece in the queens collection. He presented it to her with a low bow.

A group of Naiads and Dryads stepped forward next. A birch dryad held their gift, covered by a crisp blue cloth. "For our beautiful queen, something new." She uncovered the gift, which was an elegant dress, adorned with pearls and with delicate embroidery running all across the skirt. Susan sucked in her breath at the sight and fingered the soft cloth before handing it back to Mrs. Beaver, who set it on the table behind her.

The Beasts were next. Their group was more varied, an assortment of creatures such as bears, cats, badgers, mice, horses, and other Talking Animals. "For the Lady of the Horn," a bear said, "something borrowed." He revealed a faun's pipe, neatly set with jewels.

Finally the Birds flew forward, an Eagle carrying a bracelet woven of blue feathers. For the Gentle Queen, something blue," he said in his rough voice.

After accepting the bracelet and handing it back to Mrs. Beaver, Susan rose. "Thank you," she said, "for your lovely gifts and especially the heart behind them. I'll cherish these always." She sat back down.

After a pause, someone called, "Now, being out the feast!" Mrs. Beaver immediately hurried off to oversee it.

As the feast was being brought out, Lucy leaned over to her siblings. "Isn't 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue' for brides?"

Susan shrugged. "In England it is, but frankly, I like this better."
