It has been a week since Sesshomaru sent that text, ending their relationship again. But she was gradually feeling better as days went by.
Maybe we are done for good. Maybe it is for the best that we stay separated. I wasn't gaining anything from this, anyway.
She sighs and gets her laundry from the dryer. As she entered her bedroom, she hears her phone buzzing. She stops in her tracks. She secretly wanted it to be him, but truthfully, she knew it would not be.
She trudged to her bed and sat down. She picks up her phone and her stomach sank when she saw it was Kagome. Stop it Rin! Just stop it!
The notification read:
Kagome: Izayoi wants to invite you to dinner again. Are you up for it?
Rin contemplated. Would he be there? Would it be awkward? Was she ready to be around her secret lover's family? She thought their relationship blossomed enough that their communication would have gotten better.
It was too good to be true. She wasn't the one to help him become a better being…. maybe she would be the inspiration for his next relationship. Maybe he will be better for the next person that comes into his life.
This was a life lesson Rin never wanted to return to.
"Am I really up for this?"
Rin: When is the dinner?
Kagome: Tomorrow night… ?
Rin: I will think about it.
Rin sat her phone down and looked at the pile of laundry and decided she would fold them tomorrow. She thought she was over him and now all these thoughts came pouring into her mind. She was no way over him. Something about him called to her.
It was damn near addicting… obsessive… so obsessive that he could continue on with this behavior. She would forgive him if he would just communicate his true thoughts. Maybe they could work through it together.
Tears fell down her eyes. "Sesshomaru… Why? Why are you doing this?" She covers her face and sobs.
Suddenly, she shot up and grabbed her phone. "I can't let him have the control."
Rin: I will be there!
Kagome turns in her seat to face Izayoi. "She agreed to come. Ever since you mentioned her and Sesshomaru may have something going on. Rin has been strange. I think what you said is true."
Izayoi exhales deeply. "He is going to hurt her if he hasn't already. He cannot accept a human to be…" Izayoi was hesitant in saying this. "His mate."
Kagome stood from her seat. "Mate! Izayoi, no!"
Izayoi motioned for Kagome to sit back down. Kagome sits back down, slightly panicking. "Toga seems to think so, and from what I have heard, it is taboo to deny or treat your mate ill."
Kagome made a fist with her hands. "Well, he is doing a good damn job."
"Unfortunately."
Kagome takes Izayoi's hands into hers. "Unfortunately, what? What is it Izayoi?"
Izayoi nodded. "Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do. Just like you and Inuyasha, you are inseparable as anyone who are mates. The universe will keep bringing them together in hopes they will accept their fate. But if Sesshomaru continues to deny her or treating her badly, there will be repercussions for his behavior."
"Oh, my."
"We cannot disrupt this trial. It will be tragic for Rin, but she will get through it. She is a strong woman. It is up to Sesshomaru on what path he takes. We just have to be there for Rin."
Kagome shook her head. "Oh Rin, I wished you would talk to me."
"I don't want her here because of Sesshomaru. I genuinely like her company." Izayoi squeezes Kagome's cheek. "I want more girls in the family… hmm." She stood and as she walked off, she says, "Hopefully, Sesshomaru will get his act together, so more girls can be produced." She laughs. "Toga would spoil them all."
Sesshomaru watched as Izayoi pranced around, ordering servants around. He wondered what had her in such a good mood.
Toga came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. He deeply sniffs the crook of her neck. "What has my mate in such a good mood?"
Sesshomaru rolled his eyes, but… he could easily envision the same with Rin.
That smile of hers… he would want to keep that expression on her face forever. But all he had ever done was make her unhappy.
He missed her.. he wasn't up to anything. He hadn't eaten since he last saw her or got any sleep. And he was envious of watching his father with Izayoi.
Sesshomaru huffed. Izayoi saw Sesshomaru walking away.
"Dearest, Rin will be here tonight."
Sesshomaru stopped in his tracks, and his heart raced. His demon roared internally. He was excited.
Toga watched his son. "Will you be joining us?"
"Hmm." He turns to face his father and Izayoi. "Why do you insist on continuing to bring that human woman around? We have enough around here already."
Toga moves his mate to the side and marched to Sesshomaru. In a threatening tone. "What was that?"
Sesshomaru sucks his teeth. "I am out of here."
Izayoi runs to Toga's side and wraps her arm around his. "Dearest?"
"He is so disrespectful. He can do whatever he wants outside of this home, but while here, I will not turn the other cheek."
The elder couple watch Sesshomaru disappear in the darkness.
Kagome greets Rin at the main entrance. The Taishos sent a car to her apartment to pick her up because of privacy reasons.
Kagome looped her arm through Rin's. "Come on, let's get ready." Rin smiles at her sister.
Kagome thought maybe times like these are exactly what Rin needed. To be pampered and have a good time with the girls.
She watches her little sister spin and smile so brightly around the room. Yes, this is exactly what she needed.
When will Rin learn to get the fuck out of Dodge? This is not the love she deserves.
