Oops, I Did It Again – Chapter 41

Constance and Angela walked out of the hospital room together and decided they needed to talk. "Angela, have you eaten yet?"

"No, I have been a bundle of nerves lately and I haven't been sleeping or eating right since I saw that engagement ring on the table Friday night." Angela admitted.

"Does Frank know what happened?" Constance asked curiously.

"God, no, I haven't spoken to him about Jane in days. He has asked once or twice if she is better and that's it. He hasn't even gone to the hospital to see her. I doubt she would want to see him anyways. She is so disappointed in her father." Angela stated.

Constance was curious so she asked, "Does Frank know that they are engaged now?"

"You know, I don't know. To be honest, I don't speak to him too much lately. It's like he is a roommate in our house. He comes and goes and doesn't tell me anything. So, I just do my own thing. I guess at some point I will need to talk to him." Angela informed Constance.

"Let's go out to eat. I'm a little hungry. I haven't done too much since I came back. I have spent most of my time with Maura. I had a feeling she didn't fully process Mel's death. I am so glad that Jane is understanding and let Maura process her feelings." Admitted Constance. She was just a little worried at first until she talked with Jane on the phone after she woke up.

"Well, she didn't have much choice. It's not like she could go chasing Maura down. Maura had informed Jane about how she lost Mel and once we discussed probable reasons why Maura had left, Jane mentioned it herself. She is a very compassionate woman and she loves Maura so she is giving her sometime. She also wanted Maura back with her."

"True, I am just glad they are back together now. I guess they will be planning their wedding soon."

"Yes, I have some ideas to share with them. I can't wait to tell them." Angela quickly replied.

"Angela, I think you better let them come to you for assistance. Those two are very independent young ladies. Plus, they just got engaged, we need to give them some time. They need to figure a few things out on their own before we barge into the planning process."

"I guess you are right. I just never thought my Janie would be getting married. She has not been successful in the relationship department."

"After Mel died, I didn't think Maura would ever fall in love with someone again. I thought she would just throw herself into her work and forget about love, thinking that she had her one great love already."

"Well, I am glad she gave love a chance with Jane. At least now I know why Jane's relationships with men failed, they weren't Maura." At that comment Angela shared a laugh with Constance.

"No one is like Maura. I am glad that Jane came into her life. They are perfect for each other."

They went out to one of Constance's favorite restaurants and had a nice meal together. They both figured that their daughters were in good hands now that they were back together. They weren't sure how the staff was going to take Maura sleeping in the bed with Jane but they weren't going to worry about it. Jane and Maura were happy and that is all that mattered to them.

When the nurse came into Jane's hospital room to check on her vitals, she was surprised to see Maura asleep on the bed with Jane. She had been briefed that Jane was engaged to Dr. Maura Isles, the Chief, Medical Examiner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts but she didn't expect to meet her in this fashion.

Maura sensed that someone had come into the room and stirred, which caused Jane to stir. "I'm sorry Dr. Isles, I didn't mean to disturb you I just need to check on the detective."

"I'm awake, I'm awake." Jane said as she tried to sit up.

"Jane, darling, you don't need to move. The nurse is just here to check on your vitals." Maura said as she attempted to crawl out of the bed.

Jane reached out to stop Maura from leaving the bed, "No Maur, don't leave. I was comfortable."

"Jane, I need to use the restroom. I will be back. I will let the nurse check on you while I use the facilities. I promise I will be back." Maura assured Jane.

"Okay, Maur." Jane said reluctantly.

"Hello Detective Rizzoli. I am Sam, I will be your day nurse for as long as you are with us. I just need to take your temperature and check your blood pressure and your bandage. Do you have any questions for me?"

"No, and please call me Jane. Wait, I do have one question. How long am I going to have to stay in the hospital?" Jane asked as she was curious. Now that she was awake, she wanted to go home.

"I am not sure, the doctor will be in later and he will have a better answer for you." Sam informed Jane.

"Thank you! I don't like hospitals but this room seems to be nicer than any I have ever stayed in before, and much nicer than the room I was in earlier today. I like these pajamas. There are more comfortable than wearing the gown with the open back."

"This is one of the VIP rooms. It seems that the Isles family wanted you to be comfortable while you are with us. Mrs. Isles said that you don't like hospitals and she wanted you to be as comfortable as possible while you are with us." Sam stated.

"Well, I will just have to thank Constance when I see her." Jane said as she smiled at Sam, silently thanking her for the information.

"She was here a few hours ago with your mother. You were asleep and they both said you needed your sleep. I believe they went out to lunch together. They said they would be back later this afternoon. Your night nurse, Charlie, will be in at 6 PM and he will come by and introduce himself. If there is anything we can do please hit the button or the intercom and we will be right in."

"Well, thank you for the warning about our mothers." Jane said as Maura came back over to her. Maura sat in the chair beside the bed as the nurse finished with Jane. "Maur, Sam said that our mothers were here and will be coming back in a little while. We were asleep when they came."

"I was rather tired when I came to see you. I am not surprised that I fell asleep once I laid down on the bed with you." Maura stated as Sam left the room. Maura got up and peeked at Jane's chart.

"Hey, Maur, what are you doing?" Jane said as she raised her eyebrows at Maura.

"I am seeing what your chart says. What does it look like I am doing?" Maura stated sarcastically.

"Well, babe, that is private information. You're not my doctor or nurse so you shouldn't be looking at that." Jane said in a playful manner.

"I can be your doctor or nurse if you would like." Maura said playfully as she walked over to Jane's bedside.

"Please, Maur, I'm in no condition to be all sexy right now. I feel terrible and not sexy at all. It will be weeks before these casts come off and then all that therapy. I'm not looking forward to that. I just want to go to the courthouse and get married like we planned."

"I like that idea. We will have to wait until you get sprung from this joint though." Maura replied as she smiled at the thought of marrying Jane.

"No shit Sherlock." Jane said as she pulled Maura closer to her as best she could with her arm in a cast.

"Language Jane." Maura said as she leaned down and kissed Jane.

"Sorry, things were going great until that car hit me. I thought I had lost you when I woke up and Ma told me you gave the engagement ring back and left." Jane said, "I was frustrated."

"I know, I'm so sorry. I want to marry you as soon as you get out of here. Once I find out what day they are releasing you I can call and set up the appointment. I don't care if I have to wheel you into the courthouse in a wheelchair. I want to marry you, Jane Rizzoli."

"Oh, that sounds so romantic being wheeled into my wedding. I want to marry you too, Maur. Now can you get back up here where you belong. I miss your body being so close to mine. Once our mothers get here, I'm sure you will try to act all proper and jump off the bed so I want to enjoy your body next to mine for as long as possible." Jane said as she winked at Maura.

"Jane!" Maura said as she gave Jane a look.

"Maur!" Jane said as she gave the look right back.

"Jane, it wouldn't be that I was trying to act all proper, it would be appropriate for me to remove myself from your bed when they arrived." Maura explained.

"Like I said all proper." Jane said as she laughed with Maura.

"Jane!" Maura said as she climbed up onto Jane's bed.

"Maur!" Jane said as she helped Maura get under the covers with her.

"Are you making fun of me." Maura said as she stopped moving so they could finish their conversation.

"No." Jane said as she gave her famous Rizzoli grin.

"Jane." Maura retorted.

Jane smiled and said, "I'm not, seriously. Now get under the covers, woman."

"So bossy, I love it." Maura squealed as Jane tickled her and threw the covers over her.

"You know it." Jane said as she used her right hand to pull Maura up onto her right side. Jane slid her hand under Maura's top so she could feel her flesh. Both of Maura's hands went to Jane's face as she kissed her passionately.

Maura slid one hand down Jane's left side and reached over and undid the buttons on her pajama top as she kissed her way down Jane's body. She had just made contact with Jane's left breast when the door opened. They quickly straighten up and looked at two very surprised mothers.

"Jane Clem" Angela started.

"Don't finish that sentence Ma. So, help you." Jane said as she glared at her mother. Nothing good ever came after the use of her full name, so Jane didn't even want to hear it.

"Well, if Angela can't finish it, I will. What were you two doing?" Constance said as she raised her eyebrows questioning the two younger ladies.

Maura started to speak, "I … I was … um."

"I was making out with my fiancée, okay. I thought we had a little bit of time and I have missed her, you know sense that stupid car hit me and all. I think I should be allowed a little bit of happy time to go with all the sad times." Jane said as she glared at both of them.

Maura had climbed out of the bed much to Jane's dislike. Being all proper just as Jane had suspected. She went into the bathroom to freshen up a little. A few minutes later she came out to face the music with Jane.

"Well, I think you two are acting like a couple of teenagers in love and not the thirty somethings that you are." Angela said in reply to Jane's statement.

"You have the love part right Ma. We love each other and we are getting married. I can't help myself, I want to spend every minute with her." Jane admitted. Angela had never seen her daughter so happy and she was happy for her, but she didn't find it appropriate for her daughter to be acting like that in her hospital bed where anyone could walk in on them.

"Yes, Angela we are in love and I also want to spend all of my time with Jane. I am so remorseful for the few days of sadness that I exposed her to. I can never make that up to her but I am going to spend the rest of my life proving to her how much I truly love her." Maura said as she walked over and reached for Jane's hand to hold. Jane squeezed her hand as they looked lovingly at each other.

Their conversation was halted as the doctor walked in to check on Jane. Maura was so happy that she was out of the bed already. The doctor examined Jane quickly and asked her a few questions. "Detective, I think you are healing nicely. We were worried about your head injury but I think maybe tomorrow I can discharge you if that would interest you."

"Yes, doctor that would be great. I like this room but I kinda want to get home. It has been over a week since I have been home with my fiancée." Jane told her doctor.

"As long as you don't have any setbacks tonight, I don't see why you can't be released tomorrow. Let's shoot for a 10 AM discharge. That will give your body time to heal a little more and I will be able to check on your head a few more times just to be on the safe side." The doctor explained.

"Thank you, doctor." Jane said as the doctor left the room.

"Let me go update Korsak and Frost." Maura said as she grabbed her phone and headed out the door. Jane knew what Maura was doing. She was calling the courthouse to set up their wedding date. She knew she would call Korsak and Frost also but if she knew Maura as well as she felt she did, she would be calling the courthouse first. Maura was thrilled they had an opening at 11 AM on Friday. She booked it and then called Korsak so she could update them.

"Maura, hello, is there an update on Jane?" Korsak asked. He and Frost were going to go by after work.

"She will be released tomorrow morning." Maura informed him.

"That is great news. I'm so happy. She must be so excited. I know she doesn't like hospitals." Korsak added.

"She is excited. She won't be able to be at work but being home will be so much better for her." Maura stated.

"Yes, your home has a little more square footage for her to move around in."

"She won't be doing too much moving around but yes, our home will be nicer for her. She would rather have her big screen tv and all of her sports channels to surf than the little tv screen in her hospital room."

"Thank you for the update doc. We were going to stop by tonight but with your permission can we stop by your house tomorrow night and see her?"

"Yes, why don't you two come by for dinner. I am sure my mother would love to see you as well. Okay, how about dinner at 6 PM, you can come by when you get off of work." Maura suggested.

"That sounds great Maura, thank you." Korsak said and then Maura said goodbye and walked back into the room to visit with Angela, Jane and her mother. She was wondering how she could get rid of their mothers, she would like to get back to what they were doing before they were interrupted.

She gave Jane a smile. Jane knew that Maura had just set up the date for their courthouse wedding. Jane stopped listening to their mothers she was focused on Maura as they continued to smile at each other.

Constance coughed to get their attention. They both turned to look at Constance. "I think we are going to go now and let you ladies rest."

"Constance, I want to stay and talk with the girls." Angela said as she looked at Constance with a questioning look.

"No, Angela, the girls need to rest. You can talk with them later."

"Oh, okay." Angela said as she rose and followed Constance. Constance gave both of the girls a kiss on both cheeks. Angela followed with a kiss to each of their foreheads. "I'll talk with you later, girls."

Constance winked at them as she led Angela out of the room. "Maur, how did you let Constance know we wanted them to go?"

"I just looked at her, I didn't do anything else. I think she just knew we wanted to spend some time together."

"Well, in that case, climb back up here. We were in the middle of something and it will be a little while before anybody else comes in here." Jane said as she helped Maura snuggle back under the covers. They had unfinished business to attend to and Jane was eager to get back to that business.
