"Fetch!"
"Gro!"
Wally's Farfetch'd and Ash's Grovyle struck attacks once more, before both leaping back and taking an offensive stance.
"Glad to know Farfetch'd is making friends." Brendan commented.
"Speaking of new captures, where's Raticate?" Wally asked.
"Oh, I sent him back to Professor Oaks. I want to catch a whole lot of new Pokemon, so I'll only be keeping these four with me for the most part." Brendan said.
"Well then, are you interested in training Farfetch'd?" Ash asked. "Because I think he could use it."
"Yeah, I'm not dealing with that. Don't you have any Pokemon that could help with it?" Brendan asked.
"Not anymore that aren't already here." Ash said thinking back.
"Wait, try one of the spells!" Wally said excitedly.
"You've been practicing magic?" Ash asked.
"Yes, and no I haven't figured that one out and you're Farfetch'd's trainer." Brendan said.
"Please, it could really help." Wally begged.
"Fine. But just this once." Brendan said, pulling out the book. "Okay, hold on. Here we are. Internus ira leniret."
The spell shot forward, passing straight through Farfetch'd and Grovyle and hitting Cyndaquil who quickly dozed off to sleep.
"What did you do?" Ash asked angrily.
"It's supposed to be a calming spell, I don't know!" Brendan said. "Cyndaquil is usually calm though, so maybe it just put him to sleep?"
"Let's hope so." Ash said, scooping up the fire type. "Come on, let's get Nurse Joy to look at him."
A while later
"Cyndaquil seems just fine. He woke up with no problem." Nurse Joy said.
"Thank you Nurse Joy." Ash said with a sigh of relief.
"I did notice something strange though." Nurse Joy said.
"What's that?" Ash asked.
"Well, most fire types ignite on their own when they first wake up, and Cyndaquil didn't." Nurse Joy said. "You said it was an energy that put him to sleep so it might be nothing."
"Thank you for the information." Ash said. "Is he clear to go?"
"Of course, everything is fine." The Nurse Joy said.
A bit later outside of town
"Are you sure about this?" Brendan asked.
"Yes, this is your fault so your Pokemon will be the test subject." Ash said.
"Technically Farfetch'd is the reason the spell was cast so it's really Wally's fault." Brendan countered.
"And if your spell sent Cyndaquil back to square one, we're almost out a fire type." Ash said. "Now Cyndaquil use Flamethrower!"
Cyndaquil gave off a yawn as he tried to ignite his flame once more to no avail as Rhydon stood there confused.
"Maybe he's still a bit sleepy?" Wally asked.
"Right. Cyndaquil use Swift!" Ash called out.
Cyndaquil shot a flurry of stars out at Rhydon, each one tinging off of him.
"Brendan!" Ash said angrily.
"I'm sorry, I'll fix this!" Brendan said, grabbing the spell book. "Okay let's try this one. Ignire!" Brendan said, pointing at Cyndaquil, as the bush behind the fire type burst into flames.
"Milotic use Water Pulse!" Ash called out, making sure they didn't cause more problems. "And please don't use that one on Cyndaquil."
"No problem, plenty more spells where that came from." Brendan said. "Here this looks like an undo spell."
"Great, lets try it!" Wally said.
"Try it on the bush first, you're 0 for 2 right now." Ash said, clearing his Pokemon out of the way.
"Redi ad id quod eras!" Brendan chanted, as the bush disappeared.
"What kind of undo is that!" Ash yelled.
"Well, it looks more like a rewind, the bush is now more of a shrub." Wally said, seeing the small and young plant just barely sticking out of the ground.
"And we're done here." Ash said, standing up quickly.
"I'll keep looking, I'm going to fix this." Brendan promised, as Ash walked off with Cyndaquil.
"Don't worry, he'll get better." Wally assured. "I'll go talk with him."
Wally walked the way Ash went until he found him in a clearing with Cyndaquil.
"What are they doing?" Wally asked himself.
"Fetch!" Farfetch'd said, rushing in with his leek raised, heading right for Cyndaquil.
"Quil!" Cyndaquil yelped, jumping out of the way.
"Wally!" Ash called out.
"It's not my fault. Well I did follow you, but I didn't tell Farfetch'd to attack." Wally admitted.
"Cynda!" Cyndaquil said, firing a Swift attack off.
"Fetch Fetch Fetch!" Farfetch'd said, blocking the hits with its leek.
"Wait, I think Farfetch'd is trying to help." Ash realized.
"Far! Fetch'd!" Farfetch'd shouted, doing a nose dive right at Cyndaquil.
"Cyndaquil dodge it and use Smokescreen!" Ash called out.
"Farfetch'd use Swords Dance!" Wally called out.
Farfetch'd sound his leek around as he blew away the smoke, the spots on Cyndaquil's back beginning to glow once more.
"Almost there. Cyndaquil use Flame Wheel!" Ash called out.
"Farfetch'd block it with Knock Off!"
The flames on the back of Cyndaquil finally ignited as he spun forwards, knocking Farfetch'd over with ease.
"Hey we did it! Cyndaquil's back to normal!" Wally cheered as Farfetch'd stood back up.
"You know, I think you and Farfetch'd are a good pair." Ash said, picking up Cyndaquil.
"What do you mean? He's reckless, has no sense of self preservation, runs off without telling anyone… oh yeah now I see what you mean." Wally said.
"I was going to say you both want to help others." Ash commented. "Think about it, him and Grovyle weren't fighting, they were trading blows. And even now he wasn't ruthlessly attack Cyndaquil, he was getting close to get him going. I'm glad you caught him."
"Thanks I guess I'm lucky to have a Pokémon like him on my team." Wally said sheepishly.
Back in Hoenn
"Here we are James." Jessie said, as they entered the underwater cavern. "Are you seeing this Meowth?"
"Loud and clear!" Meowth said. "The boss said that the information we need is in the back room."
"I hate to say it old chum, but there's only one room here." James pointed out.
"Not with that attitude! Sandslash use Dig!" Jessie called out, pointing at the back wall.
"Jessie wait!" James called out, but as Sandslash dug through the wall, another chamber was revealed.
"See, we'll be swimming in rare Pokémon in no time." Jessie said.
"Alright no more destroying according to the boss, these walls hold the secrets to catching some primo ancient Pokémon." Meowth said. "So just scan them and I'll start the translating back here."
"Copy that." James said, stepping through the hole.
