Robin (Not Batman's Robin) has had a pretty down and depressing life, being gay, not knowing his birth parents, and having no one there for him. He tries to make a new start at an all boys school, and has made a friend before he knew about it. With time he develops feelings for his friend as he does the same for Robin.
