Focused on driving he asked his question." You really don't like the car huh?"
"Hnph." Skadi snorted at the question as she continued dusting off her silvery hair, letting be blown away by the wind of the freeway they were on.
"So how was it?"
Finally satisfied enough to let the wind do the rest, she rolled her shoulders then finally settled herself down her seat with a sigh. "Felt like a decent enough warm up, if a bit disappointing."
"That much was just a warm up and disappointing too? You set your standards way too high."
"Is that so? It's appropriate, I think."
"Yeahhh..." He paused. "Definitely an abyssal hunter thing." He ended. "Hm... mind if you tell me some more stories from when you were in action? Just to kill some time while we wait for a bird to show up."
"I guess I could, hmm..." She thought for a bit. "Do you want to know how my hat saved my whole team?'
His limbs seemed to freeze up when her words caught up with his head. "Wha...?" Come again?"
"So you're telling me that your hat tickled something in this... Abyssal Devourer, then it vomited you and your team right back out?" One of the arrows in front of him blinked a frantic orange arrow, so he steered the car to the right, the road ahead of him was evisirated by a tank shell moments later.
"That's the gist of it."
"Damn, the sea is freaky." Another series of flashes, another shell was fired, so he made a harsh left to avoid it. And once again, the road ahead was pounded with destructive force. A parked car was sent flying to the left where it crushed a bycicle lot. "And these people are freaky too."
"No. That's... not entirely accurate."
"Hm? What isn't?"
"The ocean, it is only as corrupted as it is by the seaborn. If they did not exist, me and the other abyss hunters wouldn't be needed. There's... a lot of wonderful places back home too."
"Wonderful? Damn, that's the strongest word I've ever heard from you."
"I can take you with me sometime."
"You can? But I can't breath underwater."
"I could teach you, probably."
"Just be sure to strap me in with an oxygen tank then." He craned his head to look back. "And hey, looks like we have a bird. Now let's go get somewhere less..." A blink, acceleration, then a boom. "Active..." With that, he pressed a button. A panel behind the wheel appeared, which he began tapping away on.
She tilted her head. "Why not jump now?"
"Skadi..." He paused dramatically, stopping his task while turning his head to face her. "Fuck.No. Don't even think about it."
"But we'll get out faster."
"And I'd either die horribly, have a heart attack or be just fine. I'd like to have the first two options out of the table please."
"Oh, don't be a baby, I've thrown bigger, more fragile things." At that prompt, he restarted to frantically fiddle with the panel in front of him.
"And why did you throw those things?"
"To impale it at a nearby cliff of course." She seemed proud of that as he felt a smug aura almost emenate from her.
"Please," He made a sigh of relief as he tapped on the panel one last time. "Just a few blocks more. You can at least that much, right?"
"Fine..."
"Errr... now that I can actually see it, isn't that a little too high?"
"And?"
"Uhh... can we just break through again? Please? I know I've been annoying all morning and all that, but I'm just nervous you know?
"Come here." She started to reach over. He moved to get away, but the seatbelt proved to be his undoing. By the time he realized it and was working on unbuckling his restraint, a gentle hand carefully unlocked the seatbelt and a firm hand was holding him by the shoulder. He can only close his eyes, hang his head and beg.
"Wait... no please!"
"It would be just a moment, trust me."
"I'm begging you! Please don't do this! I know I planned this and all but my heart!- Skadi!..." He felt her hands move to his throat. "oops, " He was the jerked back, his body felt as if it was being pulled by an untamed bull, then he was released into air." KYAAAAAAAAA!" It was short, a few seconds at most, but he didn't dare open his eyes. He heard frantic screaming besides himself then felt hard cold metal slam against his back and then the back of his head, and he felt nothing more.
He ran. He ran as fast as he could through the storehouse, searching desperately to end the overwhelming screams. Another open door revealed itself past the mountain of open cardboard boxes haphazardly stacked upon each other. When he broke past it, the bright blinding light stopped him. He didn't stop, but then he slipped.
"Shit, iz dat Binny? Sari! Draggim to cobba! Ayl keep Bobbi dawn!"
"Gotcha! Come ere' ya crazy bastard."
He felt hands drag him by the shoulder and lean him against the wall.
"Oi, you in there, Binny?"
He couldn't open his eyes, so he spoke, letting a cool sharp tasting liquid, he gagged and wiped it from his face with his sleeve. After which he massaged his forehead. "Ugh, Christ, that hurt, what did I slip on?"
"Bobbi's guts."
His eyes forced themselves to open and focused on Sarim, while his hands "What?!"
"Hah, jus' kiddin'. Glad you still wi' us. I dunno much, but it's like alcohol or somethin that went all ova' the place when dumbass Bobbi ova there shot it. It got im' in the eyes an now he jus' won't stop cryin' about it."
"Damn, who killed Charlie?"
The older man paused, "Some guy with a sword, jumped the kid in cuz he got too mad tha' he couldn't stay in the pool up there for as long as he wanted. Fucking moron, shoulda' been me."
He sighed, "Don't say that. Let's get out of here."
"We can't"
"Why?"
"Tell me, if you found some moron playin' around with a nuke for god knows what reason, would ya stop them if ya could?"
