One dog howled without fail night after night. She never saw the dog, fine to keep it that way, but, forever and always, Claud wasn't bothered.
"Edda has a few strays," he explained. "More cats than anything. The clerics do not keep eyes on them, and where there are cats..."
"Kittens."
Claud nodded. "They have tried to pawn a few onto me."
"I had one when I was younger," she offered, "but he got out."
"Would you like another?"
"Well, aren't you sweet! But Father wouldn't let me have another, unless I leave it in Edda."
"That… would be fine."
