Chapter 3: Tyler's Sore Throat

Snackasm: You'll see soon

A couple weeks later, the friends were at Crystal's house.

"Let me see them again, let me see them again." Abby urged.

"Okay, okay." Crystal told her.

She opened her desk drawer, and pulled out the tickets.

"I still can't believe you won the tickets." Priya said.

"And that we're going to their concert." added Miriam.

"Kids, food's here." called Miranda's voice.

"Finally." Mei said.

Crystal's parents had ordered some pizza for everyone. The teens and Amanda grabbed plates and their slices. As Tyler ate his slice, Miranda noticed her winced a little.

"You okay, Tyler?" she wondered.

"I'm fine. Just my throat again."

"Your throat's sore?"

"It's no big deal. It happens all the time, and they go away."

However Miranda looked a little concerned. Before leaving, Miranda took him aside.

"Tyler, would it be all right if I looked at your throat?"

"Uh, okay." Miranda took a small flashlight, and Tyler opened his mouth.

"Hmm."

Then she turned out the light, and Tyler closed his mouth.

"What hmm?"

"It looks like your tonsils are swelling up."

"They are?"

"It's nothing really serious, but you may want to tell your parents to take you to your doctor's."

This concerned Tyler. He'd gotten sore throats all the time and it was never that big of a deal, but since Crystal's mom was a doctor, he decided to listen to her.

He told his parents, and they took him to the doctor's.

"Your tonsils are definitely swollen. And this is the 4th sore throat you've had this year."

"So what does that mean?" asked Tyler.

"I think it's best we take your tonsils out."

"Is that really necessary?" wondered Tyler's mom.

"We can wait a little bit, but I advise it."

This made Tyler a little nervous, he'd never had surgery before.

At school, he told the girls about it.

"You're gonna get your tonsils out?" asked Abby.

"Yep." Tyler answered.

"Will you still be able to go to the concert?" Priya wondered.

"Oh yeah, the doctor said recovery time is quick."

"Then what's the problem?" Crystal wanted to know.

"I've never had an operation before. Or been to the hospital."

"It'll be okay, Tyler." comforted Miriam. "

Yeah, it's no big deal." added Mei.

"When are you having it?"

"Next week."

"So just a minor bump on the way to 4*Town." Mei told him.

"Yeah." Tyler said quietly.

The girls noticed that something was wrong.

"Are you okay, Tyler?" asked Mei.

"Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?"

"Well if it were me, I'd be a little nervous even scared." Crystal said.

They all looked at him.

"Fine, maybe I am a little scared."

"Don't worry, Tyler. It's a simple thing." comforted Mei.

"Yeah, my dad had his out when he was a kid. And he said it was no big deal." Miriam told.

"Yeah, besides we'll be here waiting for you when you get back." Abby said.

Tyler looked at his friends, and smile a little. Maybe this operation wouldn't be so bad.

On the day of the surgery, Tyler's parents drove him to the hospital.

"So you ready, Tyler?" asked his dad.

"I guess so." Tyler replied.

"Don't worry, everything will be fine." his mom told him.

When they got to the hospital, they parked the car and went inside. As his parents checked him in, he looked around. He saw many people, some looked worried, others relaxed.

"Okay, just have a seat and we'll call you in a few minutes." a receptionist said.

The three did, and did some waiting. Tyler sniffed the air, the place smelled like cleaning supplies and a locker room. Then after about seven minutes, the family was taken back. A nurse took them to a hospital room, where she gave Tyler a hospital gown to change into and a paper cap to wear.

In the restroom, Tyler took off his clothes and jewelry and put on the gown and put on the cap. Then the nurse gave him a quick check up, while his parents filled out paperwork.

"Well you're all ready for surgery, Tyler." said the nurse.

"How much longer will it be?" asked his dad.

"Not too long." the nurse replied.

Tyler's mom then placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Don't worry, sweetie. Everything will be fine."

"I'm not worrying." Tyler told her.

But at the back of his mind, he was a little worried. After a few more minutes, the doctor came to take him to the operating room.

"We'll be waiting for you when you get out." said his dad.

"And we love you." added his mom.

And his gave him a kiss. Tyler kissed her back, and then got on the gurney. The doctors then wheeled him out of the room, his parents followed, until they got to the doors of the operating room.

"We'll be out at the most two hours." a doctor informed his parents.

They then pushed him through the doors, and into the operating room. It was really bright, there were more machines, and other doctors wearing masks, gloves, caps, scrubs, and smocks. After placing Tyler in the center of the room, some doctors walked up to him.

"All right Tyler, I'm just going to give you a shot now." a doctor told him.

She then injected a needle into Tyler's hand, and pulled an IV stand closer. Tyler then began to feel more relaxed, and kinda drowsy.

"I-I feel a little weird."

"It's just the medicine. We're going to put you to sleep now."

A clear mask was then placed over his nose and mouth, and not a minute later, Tyler was asleep.

Meanwhile at school, the girls were in the gymnasium waiting for their turn to use the gym, as the guys' gym class was going on.

"How do you think Tyler's doing?" asked Crystal.

"I'm sure he's fine." Priya replied.

"While it's a bummer that he's in the hospital, there is one good thing about this." Mei mentioned.

"What's that?" wondered Abby.

"We can have some girl time to appreciate the boys." Miriam informed.

"Right." the others replied.

And they all turned their attention to watching the guys do basic exercises. When it was the girls' turn, as the girls were climbing down from the bleachers, a sweatband landed on some steps across from them.

Then a guy came over to get it.

"Sorry, girls my sweatband got away from me." he told them.

"It's okay." Mei replied.

He then reached over to grab it, the girls couldn't help but check out his behind. Then he got his sweatband, and left.

"Did you guys see that butt?" asked Miriam quietly.

"I know." Abby said.

"It looked like two hard apples." replied Priya.

"Wouldn't mind seeing how he keeps those cheeks in shape." Crystal added.

"Me neither." giggled Mei.

Tyler slowly opened his eyes, he felt a little dizzy and his body was numb. He looked around, and saw that he was back in the other room. Slowly turning his head, he saw his parents sitting in the chairs.

"Mom, Dad?" he croaked.

The two went over to him.

"Hey, Tyler, you're finally awake." said his mom.

"How you feeling, sport?" asked his dad.

"My throat feels like someone set it on fire."

"You'll feel better soon, but you may want to refrain from talking for a while."

"But everything went great. And the we'll be able to go home soon."

Tyler smiled a little, and then went back to sleep.
