Long Live Brucas: I know what you mean. So glad she's gone now.

DISCLAIMER

Belongs to Dick Wolf and NBC and has OCs inspired by the show Trauma which belongs to Dario Scardapane and NBC and I use an incident from one of the episodes. Takes place around Crockett's first episodes but not really after any particular episode.

Crockett Marcel nodded as the firefighter told him what the vitals of the blonde paramedic as he and the other doctors loaded her up.

"All right, thanks for the info," he stated as he began gently probing the woman's body, checking the bruises. "You said she got banged up in the ambulance when it flipped?" he checked as she winced.

"Yeah. She was conscious when we got there but she said her ribs were hurting. A couple of them felt cracked but I have no idea how badly," the firefighter responded and Crockett nodded.

"All right. I'll have the docs take a look at you," Crockett told the girl.

"All right. Hang in there, Jitterbug. They're gonna fix you right up," the firefighter stated, gently placing a hand on the medic's shoulder, resulting in a raised brow from Crockett. Jitterbug? he thought. What was that all about? That obviously wasn't the girl's real name, so why wouldn't the guy use it?

"Thanks, Lieutenant," she said, giving him a smile. Crockett wheeled her into an examination room and they began examining her. Gonna fix her up, he thought to himself as he worked.

In the waiting room, Kelly paced. Worried, he thought to himself. Sylvie had looked pretty banged up and he hated when someone on his team was hurt. It made him feel like he had failed. What am I going to do? We sent them on that call. Should've taken better care of them, he thought. Yeah, he was freaking out. How could he not? One of his people was injured. What was he going to do? He didn't like this. Nope, not one little bit. What was going to do? And what was taking the doctors so long? Surely it didn't take this long to set some ribs. And what was that commotion that he could hear? Had something gone wrong? And if so, what? Finally, one of the doctors came out.

"How is she?" Kelly queried. Guy kinda reminds me of Rabbit, he thought to himself.

"She's okay. Banged up," the doctor reported. "Will probably be back to work in no time," he assured and Kelly nodded.

"Thanks," he said. At least I know she's okay, he thought to himself. Yes, he could admit that he had been worried. And how could he not be? One of his people was in the hospital. And he didn't like it. Really worried, he thought to himself. Why was it taking so long? It wasn't supposed to take so long. "Can I see her or-"

"Oh yeah. Sorry. Come on," the doctor stated and then led him to the recovery room. "Hey. You up for a visitor?" he asked and Sylvie smiled.

"Yeah," she responded. Kelly walked in.

"Hey, you," he greeted.

"Hey," she grinned.

"How do you feel?" he wondered.

"Okay. A little icky," she admitted and he nodded in understanding.

"What happened?" he queried.

"Docs said that something got punctured and that I started bleeding out," she answered.

"Damn," Kelly said, his tone concerned.

"But I'm all good. A doctor Marcel stepped in and caught the bleeding, sutured me right up," she assured.

"Good," the lieutenant stated. Glad she's okay. Not sure if I would've been able to take if she hadn't been, he thought to himself. He hated when one of his team members was hurt as it always made him feel helpless and he didn't like feeling that way. Yeah, he was protective, he could admit it. She then yawned and he smiled a bit. "I'll let you rest," he said.

"You're the one who needs rest, Princess. Always fainting on calls and everything," she teased.

"Crap, you know about that?" Kelly asked, flushing slightly. That had not been his finest moment.

"Met up with Madeline and the gang at Buzzards the other night. Things came up," Sylvie responded. "Gotta say, 'Princess' suits you," she teased again.

"Screw you," he good-naturedly shot back. "It was the one time and when I was a Probie," he defended.

"Got news for ya, Sev. You're still a Probie when it comes to ambo," she told him.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. And in my defense, the guy's arm was so mangled and dangling out of his socket that I could see his fricken bones," he told her, rolling his eyes, causing her to make a small sound of disgust.

"Great. Now I'm gonna have that in my head," she pouted.

"Which means my work here is done," he said with a smile. "Rest up so you can come back to us soon."

"Yes, Lieutenant." Kelly smiled.

"See ya, Jitterbug. Rest up."

"Will do." He gave her arm a pat and headed out of the room.

"Hey, Severide," Crockett greeted as the Lieutenant walked up to him.

"Hey," Kelly acknowledged. "Heard what you did for Sylvie. Sounds like it took some quick thinking," he commented.

"I had a team helping. It was a group effort," Crockett responded.

"Still…heard that you had to act quickly, so good work and thanks," Kelly commented.

"Yeah, of course," Crocket replied. It's nice to be appreciated, he mused. Doctors didn't get that a lot, not even from first responders, so hearing thanks from someone was always a welcome surprise. "See ya around?" he queried

"Yeah, see you around….Cottontail." The firefighter shot him a grin and then walked out.

"Did he just call you "Cottontail'?" a nurse asked.

"Yeah. Yeah he did," Crockett replied.

"Why?"

"I have no idea." With a sigh, he pushed the thought to the side and continued working.
