'The capacity to learn is a gift, the ability to learn is a skill, the willingness to learn is a choice' - Brian Herbert

Elias was the first to wake up, with no appreciation for Raven who had jumped on his back before starting to clean her paw as if she was proud of herself. He grumbled quietly to her as he got changed, putting on his house colours again with the new robes.
Once he had washed his teeth he was ready to go to the Great Hall. The smell of eggs, bacon, waffles, sausages, potato scones, haggis, toasted or fried bread, pancakes and fruit flooded Elias's senses when he arrived. His stomach growled and after spotting Lily and Severus he walked over to them. Lily had spotted him too and waved Elias over, causing Severus to look up and give a small nod.
Elias tried to match Lily's smile but he was caught immediately. "Not a morning person are you?" She accused, earning a grumpy glance in return. Raven had already eaten some cat food in the corner of the hall before curling up on Elias's lap. "I normally am, but I've been really tired lately."
It was then that Elias noticed a bit of paper in front of Lily, that appeared to be a timetable of classes. "Oh," Lily noticed, "the timetables are found at the entrance of the hall, just grab it on your way out."
Elias nodded, grabbing a waffle he spotted. Severus looked up to see what they were talking about before handing a piece of paper to Elias. "I figured you'd miss it by the entrance," Severus disclosed. Elias smiled in gratitude before glancing over his timetable. "What do you two have first, I have Charms?"
Lily replied with, "Oh, I have Transfiguration," While Severus just slid his timetable over. Elias looked at it, seeing he shared Transfiguration, Potions and Charms with him. "Do you mind," Elias questioned, nodding to Lily as he noted what he shared with Severus? She shook her head as she passed it to him. He noted that he shared Potions, History of Magic and flying with her, meaning he must share Herbology, Defence Against the Dark Arts and Astronomy with the Ravenclaws.
"Wait, it says here that I share Potions with both of you?" Elias questioned, very much confused. Lily furrowed her eyebrows and checked over the timetables, "Huh, maybe there were too many students in one classroom so they split it up and mixed the houses up?" She suggested. Elias shrugged and picked another waffle up, "Yeah, I suppose that makes sense." Severus nodded along. "Morning!" A voice next to Elias spoke up, almost giving Elias a heart attack and scaring Raven off. "Oops..."
Elias, the hand over heart, turned to playfully glare at Marlene who smiled back. Severus seemed to have given up with peace as he put his book down and rolled his eyes. Marlene ignored this however and instead started talking to Lily about what they were looking forward to.
Elias took this time to look around the great hall, eventually looking up at the staff's table where a woman dressed in a deep green sat along with a woman in red. He recognised McGonagall but not the one next to her.
The woman in red had darker brown hair that had been allowed to fall past her shoulders. She looked quite strict too but seemed to fade the more she talked and joked with Professor McGonagall.
"Elias," Marlene spoke up as she poked him in his side to grab his attention. He jolted in surprise before looking at her. "We're gonna be late if you sit there any longer." Elias quickly grabbed another waffle as they all started walking out the hall before splitting up, leaving Elias with Severus. In complete and utter silence.
"So...When did you first meet Lily?" Elias questioned, trying to get rid of the awkward silence. It seemed to work slightly as Severus' monotone expression faltered. "We met four years ago, though we lived in the same place. I helped her discover she was a witch. " Elias smiled as he watched Severus' lips twitch upwards while they walked into the classroom. They found the only two empty seats left, everyone else had already piled into the classroom.
Before Elias could comment a small man, the size of a goblin, walked through the classroom to reach a pile of books that he hopped on, gaining the attention of the students. "I am Professor Flitwick," he spoke with a wide smile, pulling out his wand. Books began to fly toward the students who didn't have one in front of them. It was then Elias realised that he forgot his in the dorm.
"I will be your charms teacher for the foreseeable future. Please open to pages 12-13. We will be learning Lumos, the wand-lighting charm." Severus looked over to Elias when he saw that he forgot his book and rolled his eyes, Elias not even noticing as he opened the book that landed in front of him. "Now we will begin without our wands and practice the pronunciation. Everyone with me, Lumos."
"Lumos!"
"Very good, very good. Now take note of the wand movement and begin your practice," Professor Flitwick began the lesson as such and monitored everyone. It didn't take long for some to get frustrated when they couldn't do it, Elias included. To most people's surprise, Severus was one of the first people to cast the charm correctly and was rather smug about it when Elias gave up after his 10th try.
"How come you know how to do it?" Elias question, sulkily. Severus almost laughed, "I've had practice with my mother on the odd occasion. But other than I suppose I'm just a natural." Elias glared at him with a pout as everyone began collecting their things and the books flew back to Flitwick.
"Come on, we have potions next," Severus reminded, seeming rather excited. You know, in his sort of monotone way. Elias nodded, "I'll meet you there, I'm going to get the books I'll need for today." Severus nodded back and they both walked through the dungeon before splitting different ways. Elias quickly ran towards the kitchen before being startled. Around 20 small elf-like creatures were dotted all over the place, preoccupied. They didn't seem to notice him or rather didn't care.
He took a breath, shrugged and ran towards the barrels. He tapped the carefully, aware that there were 'security devices' as Thomas had put it. Elias hurried inside and up the stairs towards the dormitory. He located the books inside and waved goodbye to Raven who had somehow gotten inside and was off again.
Elias darted past the elves in a panic, he did not want to be late. He sighed in relief as he got into the classroom, noting that the final people were just taking their seats. The classroom itself was quite dark and eerie, pots and jars of oddities lined the walls, as well as mini cauldrons and scales. If Elias was being completely honest it seemed like the perfect place for Severus.
"You're Elias right?" An almost timid voice came from beside him as a familiar face appeared in front of him. "Oh, Remus! Sorry, I'm distracted today. How has your morning been so far?" Remus smiled, almost nervously, "Uhm, alright. Had transfiguration first with Professor McGonagall. What was yours like?"
"Oh, I had Charms with Professor Flitwick. I accomplished nothing, of course. But it was a nice introduction to it I suppose. What did you enj-" Elias replied before a loud, boisterous voice interrupted him?
"Alright everyone, calm down, calm down," a rather large man with thick straw-like hair and a huge moustache grasped everyone's attention as their chatter died down. "I'm Professor Slughorn, your potions teacher. Now Turn to page 23, Cure for Boils and we'll begin the preparation."
